The sun had barely set when a knock came to the door. The woman outside was getting impatient when nobody came to open it. She knocked again. This was all too sudden for May. She didn't want her daughter to be taken from her. "What about school?" she asked. Hoping that mama would take the hint."She will attend school there. Turning off the gas cooker, Iby took the kettle and poured some boiled water into a small bowl. He turned on the tap, totally forgetting that his landlord hadn't pumped water yet. When no water rushed out, he fetched water with a cup from his black water drum that was at the side of the kitchen close to his chest freezer.He mixed the cold water with the hot one. May cleared the dishes and washed it against Iby's wish. He'd told her he was going to do ithimself later but she disagreed. She joined him in the room sometime later and found him face up with his two hands behind his head on his bed, staring at the ceiling.He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice her appearance. She looked at the ceiling too, struggling to find what was so interesting. May found nothing. She rolled her eyes and cleared her throat, which caught his attention.Iby turned towards her. A new yearNew years eve were always a beehive of activities for May's Household. The night before new year, Iby would clean up the entire house with the little help of twelve year old Maryam. It was obvious May had forgotten. So to remind her, Edric had to start from the beginning because every story had one. As for Edric, he had lost hope in retrieving his money back from Bella. She was no where to be found and her line was never going through.
