-RAINA'S POV-

As our math teacher completed writing an equation on the whiteboard for us to attempt solving, he turned and glanced at me, then at Venus. He blew out a hard breath as he placed the erasable black marker on the desk and then gave me a second plea with his green eyes, thinning his lips. I was his only option to deal with the distraught Alpha Female.

Silence. When was our class ever this ghastly quiet?

Venus’ devastating mood created a depressive beating cloud within the classroom that made it hard for everyone to concentrate underneath the hot atmosphere. Robbing the sun's radiant job of its rays that provided the natural lighting through the glass window panes, to feel less brilliant in its splendor. The tension in the room was unnerving for all and morbid fear reeked.

She sat at the left end, by the window, with her head lying on the desk, totally in another world. When she wasn't whimpering, it was a melancholy groan that made the others cringe. I was seated on her

-RAINA’S POV- Extremely aggrieved, a list of names sprang into my head from the anger that riled in me. Sadly, he was not here to get the lashing of my whipping tongue. What the hell! He was being a dick! Blind-sighted, I gazed down the corridor cussing. Hanging up on me for some other chick was unbecoming. How do I make him pay for that? The communication was futile. I got nowhere. What's the point in telling Venus about it? Geez, I called Valen but he wouldn't talk about Vaheed. Only his jealousy perforated the conversation and then some bitch was trying to steal him away from me. Should I tell her that? I breathed out heavily with lavaging animosity. It was stupid of me to want to hear his deep sexy voice. It was so foolish to think that he'd give me special attention, since we are mates and all. I have only been daydreaming about him since I was thirteen years old. No big deal. My thoughts and emotions were searing, both racing and overcoming my mind with images of his ster

    - -RAINA’S POV- From the mezzanine, Azara beckoned, "Your uncle's coming for Venus." After looking up at her, my eyes switched to the parking lot, and I did not see Uncle Duke's car driving up. As Beta, he ran the pack in the absence of Alpha King Vance. Faster than a bullet, I dashed up the stairs to help Azara with Venus. When I saw her at the same desk by the classroom window, she had gone limp and semi-conscious. Azara cocked her brows high, and lowly stated, “You look like shit.” Dismissing her, I fanned my hand and focused on Venus. I was well cognizant of how messy I must look in comparison to my orderly image, but I did not get the time to fix my appearance with everything happening this swiftly. Our classmates whispered and buzzed with murmurs. Werewolves do not get sick unless poisoned with components of silver and wolfsbane. High-ranked wolves had better tolerant levels than those lower. Therefore, it unnerved everyone to witness this happening to the Alpha Princess.

-RAINA'S POV- Furiously speeding through the not-so-busy town at 100 mph, I tailed the female biker, passing several skyscraper buildings through the town. The prey used the idling traffic on the stretch to her advantage, zipping in between vehicles. As challenging as she was trying to make it when she disappeared in front of a slow-moving green garbage truck, my determination soared with a satisfied look at the gas tank being half-full. You are not getting away, I thought to myself as I slowed down to 70 mph. You messed with the wrong she-wolf. Turning the steering wheel to the right, I changed lanes, then to the left and back again to overtake the garbage truck and picked up speed. Jamming my horn with the heel of my palm, I tooted for the two sluggish vehicles in front to clear the way for my crazy fast driving. Of course, they pulled over and told me derogatorily about the body parts that I had. "Up yours," I whispered, though they could not hear me because my window was up and

-VALEN’S POV- My mind’s been stuck on Raina all day today, so I went for a run despite the wax-melting sun. Through the bond, I knew that she wasn’t alright. Yet, I cannot bring myself to go near her. It was not neglect when there was good reason to stay away. Without a doubt, she’d be mad. I expected to get a full dose of her flogging tongue when I saw her next time. I’ll deal with that when the time comes. The sanity I had was dwindling because of this shitty situation. It was radically breaking me down. After the ritual, I did not mean to leave her without a word. I was going to apologize when she called me on the phone this morning but the mention of Vaheed’s name rifled my anger. It was bad enough that he was creating problems. I was going to put him on a fucking leash. Today was one of those days when I refused to think of my harebrained brother. Fuck! What the hell had he been thinking about? Careless and asinine. Returning to the home base on the island, I morphed back to

    - - -RAINA’S POV- “You don’t get to die today.” At some point before the collision with the truck, a hand smashed the window, grabbed the collar of my green blouse, and vehemently yanked me from the car. I flipped in the air in an icy paralysis. The piercing sound of the calamitous explosion rendered my ears deaf with a sharp ringing. Glass shards like bullets sprinkling the air glittered maliciously from the glare of the sun. The resplendent sky graced my sight for a split second before the lush green tree tops and then collided with the solid brown dirty ground. Thud. As hot metal and splinters rained all about me, the smell of burning rubber and gasoline burned my nose. The tanker truck jackknifed and exploded. “Oof!” I swore I broke a rib. Blood trickled down my forehead, warm and sticky. I stared at the mangled wreck that had once been good vehicles and a dreadful lump developed in my throat. A second explosion thundered and I swiftly dropped my face on the grass with my

-VALEN'S POV- "Why should I sit and listen to this crap? If you want to rip my head off," I dared him, "Go ahead, but I'm not going anywhere." I yielded to the desire to smash something by lifting the wooden chair and throwing it into the wall and looking at my father square into his obstinate, unfazed green orbs. Something warped in my gut, dark and sinister. Dad leaned back into the large leather-grey executive chair with controlled calmness, folding his arms across his chest, silently allowing me to vent in front of the large black U-shaped office desk at the home base. With a frown, Devin rose from his chair to be away from me, his body tensed. Standing on the left side of the casement window that allowed most of the newly radiant morning light into the circular-shaped office of pine-green, blue-gray, and champagne-silver colored schemes. -VALEN’S POV- “Mate!” Unbelievable! Raina was not here. How could she be? She had school. Raj wasn’t the kind of father to let her miss class just to take her here for a visit. "Go to mate." My wolf, Zeus, demanded. "I want my woman." Now was not a good time for her to show up. Especially with all the Alpha males that were here with the unmated ones desperately trying to sleep with the fifty-one Alpha Females here. When they failed that route, the female Omegas sufficed. They would maul her. Although, I was sure that her visit would be brief. My heart terribly longed to be with her. My sweet, delicate, aroma-appetizing Bluebella. In her presence, I felt complete and once we parted, it was like a hollow lived inside of me. We yearned for her. My wolf perked up with expectancy of seeing her now. I forcefully pushed him to quiet down. Reflecting on her, I felt a glitter of joy etching into my hard facial features in hopes that she would walk into the office. Suddenly, I craved for h

-RAINA'S POV- "Why is this happening?" I croaked as my eyes misted, getting blurry. I cringed away from Valen with my back against the wall, I slid to the floor, falling into hysteria. It was like my leg had been incapacitated and a lightning bolt had zapped my body from head to toe. The kiss had been unexpected but welcomed. What began as a dull sting on my face soon intensified, twisting into a barrage of jabs. At first, it was the shock of it which changed without warning to a painful burn converting such an intimate moment into a kiss of death. My hands touched my peppery, swollen crimson-red lips. They were so big, like I'd gotten liposuction and required healing. Stick them with a needle and they might pop like a balloon. My splotchy cheeks shriveled like a raisin. Shit! The sacred stone did not rectify the issues with our mate bond. My first kiss was absolutely horrendous. It felt like a whirring blade was slicing me up. It would scorch my memory forever. How sad. I held up a hand to stop them from drawing closer. Alarmed, they muttered some prayer and made the holy sign across their bodies, watching the scene.“Damn. How bad is it?” I growled, fixing my eyes on my roguishly lightheaded brother, on guard if he decided to attack anyone else.“Alpha,” Theo gaped and gasped. He struggled to swallow and stuttered his speech, “I appreciate all you’ve done.” His voice wavered. “We had some good times.”“What are you doing?” Devin asked angrily, jolting up to stand and looking down at the Gamma’s supine body.“I’m dying,” Theo choked out and sucked in a shuddering breath. “M-my soul—”Devin shrugged dismissively and growled, “It was a blank blast. So tell me, what went wrong? What was the problem? I have a right to know.”Mate bonds are hard to switch off and forget that they ever existed.Fated mates are next to impossible to elude. So, it was nerve-racking and upsetting that Future Valen’s muted, desaturated green eyes were soulless towards me. This heartless man had no problem crushing my fragile heart. I suppressed a sob, focusing on knowing that my Valen was back home and he loved me. I reminded myself to bounce back into some positivity.Future Valen bit his lip, staring hard into my desperate pleading eyes. He remonstrated gruff and tightly, “Whatever it was, I fixed it. THIRD PERSON’S POVThunderstruck.Several aspects of what the Worgens saw were unexpected. The fighting scene between the Alpha Princes had them tight-lipped and uneasy. On a cauliflower-shaped cumulus cloud in the hot, blue sky, Seff, Jarvaldo, Rovell, Farrah, and Dymian watched keenly at the brawl on the concrete roof below. Rovell navigated his clouds with stealth in order to conceal their location from the irritating eagle guardian."What the fuck?" Rovell exclaimed, forgetting that they were covertly hanging around to evaluate their enemy's power and skills.Observing Valen would inform them of the level of power that protected the werewolf kingdom. A chain was as strong as its weakest link. Sadly for them, Valen appeared strong."OMG!" Jarvaldo muttered, half astounded and half pissed.Seff snapped his quizzical eyes at him. "OMG? Is that a new weapon? Show it to me!” He said, peering down at the brawl and earnestly searching them with his eyes for some shiny new weapon. “Show i

VALEN'S POVA dark, menacing harlequin flooded each iris. There he was, grunting, thick with scorn. “Well, if it isn’t the realm’s treasure.”Scanning over his appearance, the dirty pants that he wore were threadbare. The afternoon's cool breeze blew open his unbuttoned shirt, billowing at the sooty material to expose his bare torso. The hems of which were jagged. He expelled an offensive odor, which intensified by the minute and seemed to go up to the little hairs in my nose to stick to them.Vaheed’s putrid stench nauseated me from a distance and the sun's rays were evidently kicking his ass. He perspired like he'd been beaten in a marathon he had just run in the sun's barraging beams.Finding him at last, provided minor relief. The search was over. Now I had to ensure that he did not slip away from me.Cautiously, I assessed his aura. Zeus shifted within me. He brooded with impatience. -RAINA'S POV“I can't stop. I won’t stop. Not until I get my wolf.” I replied with all seriousness, showing my determination. Then sadness overcame me when I thought of everything that crashed into my life. My voice dropped, softening. “I'm scared, Valen.”This doppelgänger was as impassive as the first time I met him. This was the Valen who was incandescently in love with Villainess Snow, also known as the nefarious Mercedes.Scanning his features, his edgy mohawk had gotten a lot whiter with a sleek shine. From this angle, the loose black strands were barely noticeable with the bulk of his long hair combed over to the right. This time a thicker, short beard covered his sharp jawline, and he pinned me with a hateful glare. Strapped and overpowered.“Then find your mate.” He simply said, annoyance still palpable in his demeanor.I shook my head stubbornly. “I need some answers, or I'm stepping through.”His eyes hardened at me. Anger, like stone, set in his features.“Why did you try

RAINA'S POV-“When your Grandma said she would keep my snow globe safe, she really wasn't kidding,” I muttered with sarcasm as I walked down the dark passageway. Our feet thudded on baked black mud with its walls decorated with brown-black, twining, trunky vines.Leading with a torch in her hand, Pennelope chuckled and then uttered with dramatic emphasis, “Grams never—and I mean never joke around.”“Your home is creepy as hell,” I swear the big vines moved sometimes.Witches' houses were truly a haunted horror for intruders. You could get in, but only the goddess could help you to get out. A modicum of dread weaved through me, but with Penn here, I thought I would be alright.Get it together Raina. It's amazing how the home could transition from a lovely spacious cottage on the upper floors and then descend from the basement into a whole murky forest with thin, white smoky ghosts popping up here and there, whooing around. VALEN'S POV-Zeus' volcanic rage was swarming me. It was hard to control him like this. I never expected Devin's revelation to propel my wolf into a hissy fit. Vaheed's attack on my best friend left a bitter taste of betrayal. Not to mention, his actions with Raina were incomprehensible because he was marked by his own mate. Once again, my brother was after my mate. Why? I thought we passed this stage, but no. He’s a damn dickhead who has gone off the rails.“Alpha, did you get the new location?” Jason’s voice came through the communication earpiece.“Yeah,” I replied in a not-so-nice tone. “We’ll move in five.”Nuuk, Bahia Blanca, and Isiro were fruitless. This was the last sanctuary that was on our agenda to investigate. However, Heidi had found that this one in Waipu had a branch in the United States. Pennelope also confirmed high amounts of camouflaging magic that were widespread across the town. All of its energy waves pulsed from that synagogue.I stood to the side with my rifle

VALEN’S POV-I caught Jason standing from his chair with his head down. He was scratching his forehead with his palm blocking most of his eyes, but I saw them sneaking upwards to watch out for my reaction.Guilty as sin. He had to be the culprit who provided the girls with everything they needed, including war gear, despite that he knew how we felt about our women on the battlefield.I growled at him.“We're coming on the mission.” Venus was always the boldest to speak first. With hands on my waist, I rebuffed, “No, that's a negative. You've been up all night, and it’s two a.m., plus the Howl De Lune cannot be planned by itself. The team and I will be gone for days.”“Cleo and Mom are here,” Raina argued, failing to see my point. She shrugged and emphasized, “I’m safest when I am with you.”“Mom left you in charge.” As I spoke, my feet crossed the space to draw closer to her. “Everyone else has to be here to assist you. Besides, the Bolivian and Ugandan wolves rely on your presence. Y
