After a silent while, Emerson just looks… tired. Defeated. The weight of the conversation pressed down on him. He exhales slowly, his hands gripping his knees like he's steadying himself.

Then, finally, he begins.

"Mina, I di—"

"No, Emerson." I cut him off, shaking my head. "I actually think you meant those words. I know you. I know how you act when you say something you don't mean and you mean it." My voice wavers slightly. "I looked at you that night, and I knew—in my heart—that you meant it. So don’t sit here and tell me you didn’t."

I see his shoulders tense, but he stays quiet.

"And sitting there, at that dinner, all I could think was… if this is what you really think of me, what the hell am I even doing here?"

Emerson closes his eyes briefly, my words sinking in.

"Mina, no," he says softly. "I saw the change in you, but I didn’t know why. I didn’t know if it was because you didn’t want to be there, or because you were mad at Eric, or because of your sister, or even because of T

I open my mouth, but my thoughts are spiralling too fast."This is about the fact that—" I stop myself. "Okay, you’re confusing me right now.""No, don’t filter yourself. Just say it." His voice is steady. "Say it exactly how it is. We’re just talking."I swallow, my pulse hammering. And then—"This is about the fact that you think what Eric did to me is okay."Emerson’s eyes widen slightly, but he doesn’t interrupt."I think…" I take a breath, forcing myself to say the words that have been eating at me. "I think that some of the things you just said to me right now prove that you believe what Eric and Rita did to me is fine. That they deserve to go scot-free."Emerson shakes his head instantly. "No, Mina. That’s not—""Why?" My voice is rising now. "Because he’s your son? Because when I was married to your son, I couldn’t give you grandchildren? Is that why? Because now that he’s with her, he can finally make you a grandfather? Because now your bloodline has a chance to grow?"His f

"No, listen to me," Emmerson says as he squeezes my hand. "I don’t want you to wake up one day, years from now, and realize you had no idea what you were doing. I don’t want you to fall deeper, only to realize that you were still running from something else."His eyes search mine, and I feel my defences cracking."That kind of pain would be unbearable," he says. "For both of us."I can barely breathe."So yes, Mina. I agree with you." He takes a slow breath. "We should postpone the wedding."I am silent.Caught in the web of my own making.Just minutes ago, I thought postponing the wedding—taking time to work on myself—was the right choice. But coming from Emerson, it feels wrong. It sounds wrong.Especially given his reasons. He thinks that I still have feelings for Eric. The only feelings I have for Eric are hurt, hate, and pure revenge.I want him to suffer. I want them both to suffer. To hurt. To be humiliated. To bathe in the consequences of their actions. But in doing so, I real

I want to say yes. I want to believe that no matter what, we would have ended up together. But he doesn't give me the chance."I don't know," he whispers.A lump forms in my throat. "You still regret it, don't you?""Regret what?""The first time we slept together," I say, studying his face. "You regret that night. I always knew you felt guilty about it. That’s why you agreed to marry me, isn’t it? Because you felt guilty. And now, I realize you never forgave yourself for that night."His jaw tightens. He looks away."It’s not like I regret that night," he admits after a long pause. "I just think I could have done better.""But you did," I argue. "That night, I was lost. I felt like my life was over. I acted strong, but inside, I was breaking. And then, you—" I swallow hard, my voice shaking. "You gave me hope. You made me believe there was something to hold onto. That night was special, Emerson. And I will always cherish it. I just wish you would see it the way I do."His eyes search

And I just can't take it.It's too much.So I change tactics."So... what are we doing?" My voice wavers. "Are we postponing the wedding? Are we cancelling it?" My stomach churns as I force the words out. "What about us? What about our engagement? Are we still engaged? Are we still dating? What does this all mean?"I don't know what I expect him to say, but I need something—anything.Emerson exhales, rubbing the back of his neck. "I think, for now, we should postpone the wedding," he says carefully. "Maybe in a month or two. Or three. Just enough time." He glances at me as if gauging my reaction. "Maybe three to six months would be good. Or a whole year, if that’s what you need."I stare at him, my mind racing."And if, at any point, you feel like it," he continues, his voice softer now, "you can cancel the wedding. That decision will be entirely in your hands."I hate this.I hate that he's making the decisions but acting like I have control when, in reality, I have none."So people

"Am I about to sign an NDA?"His head snaps up, and for the first time, Emerson looks truly caught off guard. He wasn’t expecting this. He wasn’t expecting me to say this. I see it in the way his jaw tightens, in the flicker of something—shock, maybe even guilt—in his eyes.I give him a sly smile, though inside, I feel like I’m crumbling."Mina…" he exhales, shaking his head. "I'm not talking about this. I think you need some rest. I'm going to let you be now."He shifts to stand, but before he can take a step, I stop him."What?" I say, my voice laced with bitterness. I broke down.I cried heavily, sobbing as if I were at a funeral as if someone had just died—because, in a way, it felt like they had. My whole life was breaking apart, shattering into pieces I didn’t know how to pick up.When I divorced Eric, I had a plan. I threw myself into work—divorce, take revenge, move on. That was the pattern. The process. And after I got through it, I had a clear direction, a goal. But right now? Right now, I had nothing.Because Emerson had broken me in a way I couldn’t even explain. How do I explain it to someone else when I can’t even understand it myself? And it hurts. It really, really hurts. So I cry. And I cry until I can’t anymore. And then, right there on the floor, I just stay there. My body is still. My eyes open. Tears already dried up. Keep me hostage in your house?""No, that’s not what I’m doing," he says quickly."Then please," I say through clenched teeth, "get out of the way."He steps aside, but his eyes are pleading, his hands slightly raised in surrender. "Wait."I stop and look at him."Okay, fine," he says. "If you want to leave, fine. You can go. I won't stop you."I scoff. "Emerson, I thought that was obvious. I came here of my own free will. "Are you going back on the words you said to me yesterday?""No," he says quickly. "I really think we need some time apart. Not just you—me too. Mina I was in the delivery room about to bring my baby into this world, and who knew it hurt like hell? Mmh! I was very lucky and very grateful to have my husband here with me. He kept holding my hand, telling me sweet things, and encouraging me when the doctors told me to push. He pushed with me, breathed with me. It was kind of crazy. I don't know, maybe after I was done here I would think about this moment and laugh about it. It was a moment in my life when I really needed him, and I was so, so happy and so grateful to have him here beside me. The two doctors that Mr. Emerson insisted on having here were top in their fields. He didn’t care, he had to fly one in as long as I got everything and I was in great hands. The doctors were great, they were encouraging. I just wanted this moment to be over and for my baby to come into this world so I could hear their cry. We were still in the dark; we didn’t know if we were having a girl or a boy. I was just waiting for that moment wh

EmmersonThe next morning, I decided to handle things myself. I know Mina’s already been through enough trauma with her family, so I don’t want to involve her in this. She’s still asleep, and I slip out quietly to deal with Eric.I find him at the hotel, slumped over, still asleep. I nudge him with the toe of my shoe, the force making him stir. Slowly, his eyes flicker open, and the haze of sleep and alcohol makes him groggy. He rises, blinking and groaning, his hand clutching his head."Wake up, Eric," I tell him as I open the curtains, letting the bright light flood the room. He immediately shields his eyes, groaning louder."My head... hurts," he mutters, his voice thick with a hangover. He grabs the bottle of water on the bedside table and gulps down a large portion in one go."Last night," he laments, "I didn't like how your men dragged me out of that nightclub.""You call that a nightclub? It was a strip

EmmersonOh yeah?” Mina’s voice is a little high-pitched.And then Rita says something that makes my blood cold.“Of course,” she replies, her voice dripping with arrogance. “I mean if I could take Eric from you so easily before… When you weren’t this heavily pregnant, and we weren’t even living in the same house. Just think how simple it would be to take his father from you now.”Her voice is low and suggestive. Mina scoffs, maybe out of shock, but Rita doesn’t stop.“I mean, look at you,” she continues, mockingly. “You’re pregnant. You can’t even walk properly without someone holding you. You have to be carried just to get around.” She chuckles,“And me?” she adds. “I’m just getting started. The exercises I’ll do, the maintenance I’ll keep up… You know I won't be breastfeeding, right? This baby is feeding from the bottle. Nothing is messing up this....hot body.”In my mind, I can already picture her motioning to her bo

Emmerson By nightfall, the police have already paid us a visit. It’s all over the news. Madeline had a little accident on the highway. Her car hit the side of a bridge and went down under. She suffocated. But I know the truth. Let her feel what it’s like to lose air. Anyway, the point is—she’s dead. The police came because, after her attack on Mina, there was already a record of her actions. They were just here to deliver the report. To tell us that she was gone. That also settled the issue with Rose. Mina had never been convinced that Rose was behind it, and now that Madeline was out of the picture, it was clear she had been wrongfully accused. Mina was shocked with the news, I never thought she would actually be upset after everything. Even though there’s still sadness in her eyes, I can see the difference. She’s no

EmmersonAfter I had taken Mina home, I gave her a bath, making sure she was okay and taken Care of. She was reluctant to eat at first, but I insisted. “You need nutrition,” I reminded her. “I know you don't want to but do it for the baby. You’re pregnant, you're doing it for our baby.”She sighed, but eventually gave in, taking small sips of the warm soup I had prepared. I watched her closely, ensuring she had everything she needed. Then, I sat her down and gently caressed her hair.I kept talking as I did it—about everything and nothing at the same time. Just filling the silence, making sure she felt covered and safe. My voice was low and comforting. I caressed her head, feeling the softness of her scalp, letting her know she wasn’t alone. And then, she fell asleep.Once I was sure she was deep in rest, I finally allowed myself to feel it all—the anger, the frustration, the overwhelming sense of failure. How could I h

As Emerson's voice continued on the phone, offering words of comfort, trying to calm me, I felt my tears flow faster. I couldn't hear him clearly anymore over the noise in my head, the panic, the certainty that I was going to die. I just listened to him, letting his voice be a thread tying me to something. Then, the banging stopped.I hadn't even realized it.Instead, a knock. A soft, reassuring knock."Mina, Mina, come on, open the door," Emerson's voice came through the phone, clearer now.I still didn’t understand what was happening. My mind was so clouded by fear, but hearing his voice… it soothed me in ways I couldn’t explain. I was barely aware of his words, just the sound of him calling my name, telling me it was okay."Emerson, is that you?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper."Yes, it's me. Open the door, Mina."The reality of it hit me. I had been trapped in a nightmare, my heart frozen with terror, bu

"What did you write so fast?"She stalked toward me, snatched the paper out of my hands, and read it. Her expression darkened, and before I could brace myself, she slapped me hard across the face. The force nearly knocked me out of the chair.A sharp sting spread across my cheek, my vision blurred for a second.
