Suddenly, he was holding me in his arms. His grip was strong and unexpected—and then his mouth was on mine. He was kissing me.

For a few moments, I froze.

I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe. My body went rigid as shock poured through me. I was caught off guard, completely blindsided. My mind raced to catch up with what was happening.

By the time I realized, truly realized, I shoved him away with everything I had. My palms pressed hard against his chest, and I slapped him with a force that carried all my rage, and the confusing emotions that followed in the wake of his kiss.

The sound of my palm cracking against his face echoed in the hallway.

He stumbled back a step, but not far. He was strong—too strong—and though I had pushed with all my strength, he remained right there filling the space between us. His eyes were locked on mine, dark and intense, his breathing uneven.

I glared at him, my chest heaving. My heart hammered against my ribs as I seethed,

“Are you crazy? How dare—”

  • MARRYING My FATHER-IN-LAW    Emmerson - A Good Friend

Emerson As we sat at the table, I found myself waiting for Eric more than I wanted to admit. I knew my son well—too well, and I could see everything going on behind his cool expression. With all that had happened with Mina, he believed I didn’t love him. He was wrong. He was my son, my only living relative, and the only true blood connection I had left. Of course, I loved him. But love doesn’t come without complications. And sometimes when he wanted to, Eric was a pain in the ass. To put it plainly, he could be an asshole. His tendency to push limits, challenge authority, and test boundaries was frustrating. He wasn’t just angry about me and Mina—he was livid. I understood his reasons, even if I didn’t agree with them. The truth was, I wasn’t going to let this woman go. Mina was mine, he had her and lost her. I intended to marry her. Eric would have to live with the fact that Mina was going to be my wife whether he wanted to or not. But tonight wasn’t just about our perso

EmmersonMy chest tightened. “What do you mean?”“Trey...” She glanced away. “Trey has a way of creating chaos. Just... if things get bad, if anything happens, no matter how small, call me. Please.”“You’re putting me on the edge, Tina. What is really going on?”She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “I’m sure everything will be fine. The kids seem to get along well and will figure it out by themselves. They’ll be okay.”I studied her carefully. Her words were reassuring, but there was something she wasn’t telling me. Something hidden behind the calm mask she wore. “Okay, I’ll leave you alone now, you seem like you need a few minutes to yourself,” I said, stepping back from the bar, and giving Tina the space I knew she needed. But just as I turned to leave, her voice, caught me mid-step.“I think it’s real.” she talk-shouted behind me.I stopped and turned my head, looking at her with a questioning glance. Her eyes didn’t meet mine. She was staring somewhere distant, her fingers

MinaEmerson followed my gaze. His nostrils flared, but the anger in his eyes dimmed.I turned and walked toward Trey, my steps slow, Emerson following behind me. We both stood there, staring down at Trey’s crumpled body. I opened my mouth to speak, my voice barely a whisper. “We should call—”Before I could finish, a voice shrieked from behind us.“Trey! Oh my God, what happened? Trey! Somebody call an ambulance!”The sharp click of heels echoed in the hallway as Tina ran toward us. She dropped to her knees beside Trey, cradling his head in her lap. Her hands trembled as she gently patted his face. “Trey, are you okay? Trey, wake up! Can you hear me? Somebody call an ambulance!”She slapped his cheeks lightly, her fingers shaking. Her eyes widened in horror when she pulled her hands away and saw the blood smeared across them.“Oh my God…” Her voice cracked as she stared at the blood on her hands. My stomach lurched. I stumbled away from the scene, clutching at the walls for balance

The car was silent as we made our way to the hospital. The hum of the tyres on the road was a dull soundtrack to my chaotic thoughts. 'Oh God, please let Trey survive. Please don’t let anything bad happen. Please, just this once, let everything be okay.'The prayer looped in my head, unspoken but desperate, until a voice broke through to the present.“Mina? Mina?”I didn’t respond. I was too lost in my thoughts.“Mina!” Rita’s voice sharpened, as she shouted.I turned my head sharply toward her.“What do you want, Rita?”“Have you seen Mom? Have you talked to her lately?”I scoffed, a bitter laugh escaping before I could stop it.“Of course, you know I haven’t. You’re the one who talks to her all the time. You’re her bestie, aren’t you? You’d know if I had because she tells you everything.”Rita continued. “I think you should call Mom. At least check in on her. Whatever happened between the two of you—she’s still your mother.”Another scoff, sharper this time.“After what she said at

The car grew silent again, but of course, Rita couldn't just let the moment be. She decided to shift her attention from me to Emerson.“Mr. Blackwind—oh, I’m sorry,” she started awkwardly.Emerson didn’t miss a beat. “It’s fine, Rita. We’re family. You can call me Emerson.”I couldn’t help myself. “Or, Dad. You can call him father.” I gave a low laugh, the kind that dripped with sarcasm. If she was going to call him Dad, how exactly was she supposed to refer to me?Classic! The thought amused me more than it should have. I started laughing again. Rita shot me a glare, but then she straightened her posture, composed herself, and chose to ignore me. Smart choice.“What do you think happened to Trey?” she asked, her voice suddenly filled with curiosity and concern. “I mean, he was fine one minute, and then he just fell, and there was blood everywhere. Do you think it could be… a disease? Maybe he fainted from something else? Maybe he had a heart Attack Or an allergy to the food?”She li

  • MARRYING My FATHER-IN-LAW    What Happened

I know some people are going to call me a hypocrite, but Eric always treated Tina with respect—almost like she was his mother. He had just called her his godmother at dinner for Christ's sake. This was so inappropriate.I didn’t know if he was taking advantage of the situation, taking advantage of her, or if he didn’t even realize what he was doing. I didn’t know. But seeing the look on Rita’s face? Now that was good. That was priceless. The way she got mad. How her face turned red with fury. My heart released some heartache. As we reached them, Rita shifted her body, positioning herself firmly beside Eric. Emerson and I stood directly in front of Eric and Rita.Emerson didn’t waste time.“How is he? What did the doctor say? Is he going to be alright”Tina, trying her best not to cry, answered, “They haven’t told us anything. Ever since we got here, nobody has told us anything. I don’t know how my son is doing. I’m so worried. I just hope he gets out of all of this alive.”Eric reach

  • MARRYING My FATHER-IN-LAW    Nothing Happened

They were all staring at me, waiting. The room felt smaller, and my heart raced. I was nervous. Too nervous. So I blurted the first word that came to my head."Nothing."Tina’s eyes darkened, her voice rising. "What do you mean nothing? Treyson is lying in there. He is hurt. His life is on the line, and you’re telling me that nothing?""I mean… nothing really happened," I stammered, my voice weak. "I don’t know what you expect me to say. I just… I don’t know what happened."Her anger rose as she stepped closer. "What do you mean you don’t know what happened, Mina?""Okay, let’s just calm down," Emerson interjected, his tone soothing as he placed himself between us. "I get that our emotions are running high, and we all want answers, but let’s take a breath."Tina was having none of it. Her glare burned right through me. "No. I want to know what happened to my son. You and Mina were the ones with Trey when it happened, and I want to know exactly what went down. Are you going to tell me?

  • MARRYING My FATHER-IN-LAW    A Great Way To End The Night

I sat there on the chair, just sitting, staring at the walls, watching nurses and doctors pass by, their steps brisk, their faces a blur of calm and urgency. They came in and out, speaking softly, holding clipboards in hushed tones. My mind was blank. My body felt distant, as though I was a spectator of my own life. Then, out of nowhere, I heard the hurried click of heels—a determined, sharp sound cutting through the quiet of the hospital. Voices followed voices trying hard to be composed but strained.Tina and Emerson appeared first. They weren’t walking together; they were locked in a tug-of-war of anger. Emerson’s face was tight, his jaw clenched. Tina, her eyes wild, was a storm barely held in place. And behind them, a police officer. The sight of the uniform turned my stomach to ice. Panic surged through me so violently that I thought I might be sick. It’s done. We’re done. Everybody knows. I didn’t know how far this would go, but my mind raced to the worst. Was I an accomplice?

  • MARRYING My FATHER-IN-LAW    Epilogue

MinaI was in the delivery room about to bring my baby into this world, and who knew it hurt like hell? Mmh!I was very lucky and very grateful to have my husband here with me. He kept holding my hand, telling me sweet things, and encouraging me when the doctors told me to push. He pushed with me, breathed with me. It was kind of crazy. I don't know, maybe after I was done here I would think about this moment and laugh about it. It was a moment in my life when I really needed him, and I was so, so happy and so grateful to have him here beside me.The two doctors that Mr. Emerson insisted on having here were top in their fields. He didn’t care, he had to fly one in as long as I got everything and I was in great hands. The doctors were great, they were encouraging. I just wanted this moment to be over and for my baby to come into this world so I could hear their cry. We were still in the dark; we didn’t know if we were having a girl or a b

  • MARRYING My FATHER-IN-LAW    Emmerson - The Reason

EmmersonThe next morning, I decided to handle things myself. I know Mina’s already been through enough trauma with her family, so I don’t want to involve her in this. She’s still asleep, and I slip out quietly to deal with Eric.I find him at the hotel, slumped over, still asleep. I nudge him with the toe of my shoe, the force making him stir. Slowly, his eyes flicker open, and the haze of sleep and alcohol makes him groggy. He rises, blinking and groaning, his hand clutching his head."Wake up, Eric," I tell him as I open the curtains, letting the bright light flood the room. He immediately shields his eyes, groaning louder."My head... hurts," he mutters, his voice thick with a hangover. He grabs the bottle of water on the bedside table and gulps down a large portion in one go."Last night," he laments, "I didn't like how your men dragged me out of that nightclub.""You call that a nightclub? It was a strip

EmmersonOh yeah?” Mina’s voice is a little high-pitched.And then Rita says something that makes my blood cold.“Of course,” she replies, her voice dripping with arrogance. “I mean if I could take Eric from you so easily before… When you weren’t this heavily pregnant, and we weren’t even living in the same house. Just think how simple it would be to take his father from you now.”Her voice is low and suggestive. Mina scoffs, maybe out of shock, but Rita doesn’t stop.“I mean, look at you,” she continues, mockingly. “You’re pregnant. You can’t even walk properly without someone holding you. You have to be carried just to get around.” She chuckles,“And me?” she adds. “I’m just getting started. The exercises I’ll do, the maintenance I’ll keep up… You know I won't be breastfeeding, right? This baby is feeding from the bottle. Nothing is messing up this....hot body.”In my mind, I can already picture her motioning to her bo

  • MARRYING My FATHER-IN-LAW    Emmerson -The Death

Emmerson By nightfall, the police have already paid us a visit. It’s all over the news. Madeline had a little accident on the highway. Her car hit the side of a bridge and went down under. She suffocated. But I know the truth. Let her feel what it’s like to lose air. Anyway, the point is—she’s dead. The police came because, after her attack on Mina, there was already a record of her actions. They were just here to deliver the report. To tell us that she was gone. That also settled the issue with Rose. Mina had never been convinced that Rose was behind it, and now that Madeline was out of the picture, it was clear she had been wrongfully accused. Mina was shocked with the news, I never thought she would actually be upset after everything. Even though there’s still sadness in her eyes, I can see the difference. She’s no

EmmersonAfter I had taken Mina home, I gave her a bath, making sure she was okay and taken Care of. She was reluctant to eat at first, but I insisted. “You need nutrition,” I reminded her. “I know you don't want to but do it for the baby. You’re pregnant, you're doing it for our baby.”She sighed, but eventually gave in, taking small sips of the warm soup I had prepared. I watched her closely, ensuring she had everything she needed. Then, I sat her down and gently caressed her hair.I kept talking as I did it—about everything and nothing at the same time. Just filling the silence, making sure she felt covered and safe. My voice was low and comforting. I caressed her head, feeling the softness of her scalp, letting her know she wasn’t alone. And then, she fell asleep.Once I was sure she was deep in rest, I finally allowed myself to feel it all—the anger, the frustration, the overwhelming sense of failure. How could I h

As Emerson's voice continued on the phone, offering words of comfort, trying to calm me, I felt my tears flow faster. I couldn't hear him clearly anymore over the noise in my head, the panic, the certainty that I was going to die. I just listened to him, letting his voice be a thread tying me to something. Then, the banging stopped.I hadn't even realized it.Instead, a knock. A soft, reassuring knock."Mina, Mina, come on, open the door," Emerson's voice came through the phone, clearer now.I still didn’t understand what was happening. My mind was so clouded by fear, but hearing his voice… it soothed me in ways I couldn’t explain. I was barely aware of his words, just the sound of him calling my name, telling me it was okay."Emerson, is that you?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper."Yes, it's me. Open the door, Mina."The reality of it hit me. I had been trapped in a nightmare, my heart frozen with terror, bu

"What did you write so fast?"She stalked toward me, snatched the paper out of my hands, and read it. Her expression darkened, and before I could brace myself, she slapped me hard across the face. The force nearly knocked me out of the chair.A sharp sting spread across my cheek, my vision blurred for a second. My entire face tingled from the impact, and I gritted my teeth, refusing to let a single tear fall.Who knew I would ever be in this situation? Kidnapped at gunpoint.
