Tears welled up in her eyes when she saw her sister's husband standing in front of her with a stiff face. He looked disheveled and tired. His hair was so messy like he had tousled it repeatedly with his hands in frustration. Besides that, there were a lot of tired lines in his eyes. His eyes were bloodshot like he had been crying for a very long time.
"How is your condition?"
"I’m fine. It just hurts all over from the bruises, but the rest I'm fine. Rebecca? Have you seen her condition?”
"I have."
The second Blakely asked Nickson about Rebecca's condition, Blakely already suspected that something bad was happening to Rebecca. Nickson's face said it all. But she just didn't want to be overthinking and panicking because of something she only thought was going on. She could be wrong right?
"Where is she? I want to see her. The accident occurred when the truck driver—”
"I know." Nickson stopped his words while glaring at her. “The police have explained everything to me. CCTV cameras have also proven everything.”
“Then let me meet Rebecca.”
Blakely's eyes filled with tears, and her lips trembled every time she remembered the terrible events that had happened to her and Rebecca. She wished she could turn back time to stop everything. She wanted to fix this situation so that Rebecca wouldn't have to be in her current position and have an accident with her. Her heart was whispering, blaming herself for all the events that had happened to her and Rebecca today. If only she hadn't asked Rebecca to go to Decatur.
"Rebecca—"
"Dead," he replied coldly and flatly.
"Are you serious? You must be kidding! Rebecca... no way—” Blakely couldn't continue. She took two steps back, still clinging to the wall because her legs were wobbly and weak.
"You're not serious, are you? You must be kidding." Blakely chuckled bitterly. "You must be lying. Rebecca can't be dead."
Her feet kept moving backward as Nickson stepped forward to reach her.
The statement Blakely threw at him didn't seem right at all. Even Blakely had noticed. She just wanted to comfort herself who suddenly lost all her orientation. How could Nickson joke with such a tired face and bloodshot eyes? But then he looked angry at her because she had made things so difficult.
“Rebecca is dead. Take it, Blakely!”
Had they not been in such a tense situation, Blakely would have been very surprised when she heard Nickson's very weak voice calling her name. But now the situation is different. The man was mourning the death of his wife.
"Impossible! Rebecca can't die."
“You are not a God who can prevent death.”
"But why Rebecca? Why did it have to happen to Rebecca?”
Blakely continued to back away until her feet hit the edge of the stretcher. With a blank stare, she looked at Nickson who was now also looking at her furiously.
“Accept that, Blakely. Rebecca is dead. You killed Rebecca."
Nickson shook Blakely's body repeatedly, but there was no response from the woman. Blakely just kept crying while staring blankly at Nickson, and then she fell to the ground when Nickson suddenly let go of his hand from Blakely's shoulder.
“Rebecca is not dead. You're lying… you're lying.”
"She was already dead when the medical team managed to get her out of the car."
"I don't want to kill Rebecca."
“But you have done it. You made Arthur instantly motherless. You shouldn't have come here, Blakely. Haven't you always left your family? Your coming here is just a disaster for my family. You killed my wife."
"Enough! Enough Nickson! Don’t say anything else!” Blakely sobbed on the cold hospital floor, plugging her ears tightly with her palms. She didn't want to hear any more vile accusations from Nickson's lips. It was too painful for her heart, which was currently grieving the death of her sister.
"Where is Rebecca now?"
"What would you do?"
“I want to see Rebecca. I want to be beside Rebecca.”
"She's already on her way home."
"Take me to your house, Nickson."
Instantly Blakely stood up and gripped Nickson's shoulders weakly. The man immediately threw Blakely's hands from his arms and walked backward without the slightest feeling of pity for his sister-in-law's state of shock and sadness. Blakely isn't the only one grieving here. Nickson felt he didn't need to feel sorry for the woman who had caused his wife's death.
“Please, Nickson. Please take me to Rebecca. I want to see her."
"You just woke up," replied Nickson sarcastically, looking away.
"I'm fine. I didn't have any serious injuries. Wait a minute, I'll call the doctor."
Blakely was just about to go find a doctor, but Nickson's right hand suddenly grabbed her arm and stopped her footsteps for a moment.
“Before I came here I saw a doctor who examined you. Said you could go straight home because you only had minor injuries. If you feel pain, you are advised to take the medicine your doctor will bring you before going home.”
"No, I'm fine. I don't feel pain at all."
The look in Blakely's eyes conveyed a very deep plea. Still, with tears running down her cheeks, Blakely begged Nickson to take her to his house.
“Let me see Rebecca one last time.”
“You are her sister after all. Rebecca would be so mad at me if you didn't get to see her one last time.”
Without saying anything else, Nickson immediately walked out of Blakely's treatment room and continued walking without even looking at Blakely who was limping behind him.
This is a very tough day for him. Never once had he imagined that he would be left by his wife in this state. In the past, he even thought that his marriage relationship would only end up in court if one of them couldn't maintain their relationship any longer. But who would have thought if it turned out that their marriage relationship was separated by a sudden and very tragic death?
Nickson had to accept that as a major blow in his life. One of the domestic conflicts that never crossed his mind. But this has happened. There was no point in lamenting his life which had turned into chaos in an instant.
Over his shoulder, Nickson looked at Blakely who was trying to catch up with her limping legs. Her entire face was filled with tears and she still had a large stock of tears in her eyes. The strangest thing Nickson thought about was why all of this had to happen so soon after Blakely arrived in this town. Before that his life was fine and he had never had a hard day. But ever since Blakely came, his life suddenly became insecure. He was hAunted by a strange fear that one day Blakely might mess up his life. And unfortunately, everything he feared has come true.
"You can wait in the lobby. I'll bring my car here so as not to trouble you."
"That's not necessary. I can walk on my own and I am in a very strong condition to do it.”
Blakely's stubbornness irritated Nickson. He didn't say anything after the woman insisted on walking towards the parking lot. In fact, she left him behind with an unbelievably annoying persistence.
Nickson walked silently behind Blakely's very wobbly body. He was worried that at any moment she might pass out and he might be ready to catch her. He then walked ahead of Blakely as they were almost at his car. The white Audi car was parked next to a black suburban car that looked very large beside his car. Blakely stood between his car and the suburban, looking restless as she continued to wring her hands nervously. Nickson opened his car window, motioning for Brysnlee to get into his car.
"You okay?"
“A bit dizzy, but it will get better soon. The doctor brought me some medicine that I will take later."
Nickson didn't say anything else. He drove out of the parking lot and let the atmosphere in his car become quiet. Now and then he glanced at the woman, still restless as she looked at the streets around them which were quite congested.
"Is Arthur okay?"
It was a question that Nickson had not expected to slip out of Blakely's lips. The woman looked at him with a look of sadness and concern that was very thick. He thought staring at the busy streets was just one way to reduce her anxiety about his family. And it kind of bothered Nickson that Blakely cared about his family.
“He is safe with my parents. A child as young as Arthur, he doesn't know much about death yet."
“I'm so sorry for causing all this mess. I... I love Arthur. He must be very sad.”
Blakely's lips trembled. The woman cried again silently in his car, which made Nickson even more furious. For some reason, he hated seeing her cry. He preferred to see Blakely look as arrogant as when he came to her restaurant with Antonio. It gave him reason to hate her and stay away from her instead of seeing this frail Blakely.
"I know what it's like to lose a parent. Arthur shouldn't be going through the same bitterness of life as me and Rebecca."
“Arthur still has me. He will not lack the slightest affection.”
Blakely didn't say anything for a moment. Her eyes stared at Nickson who was driving with a dubious look.
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?”
Nickson was uncomfortable being stared at like that. Even though he was very concentrated on driving, the corner of his eye kept an eye on Blakely's movements ever since.
"You are very busy. Rebecca said that to me as we were driving towards Decatur. You might find it difficult to divide your time between taking care of Arthur and working.”
“My parents will help me and I will hire a nanny for Arthur. There is nothing to worry about my son's life."
"If you don't mind, I can babysit Arthur while you work."
The traffic light turning red gave Nickson a chance to turn to Blakely. His sister-in-law seemed to mean her words. The look on her face said that she didn't accept any refusal from him.
“No need, I can take care of my own family. Since you're Rebecca's sister, and Rebecca is now dead, it makes the relationship between you and Arthur no longer necessary. You get what I mean right?”
“You want to kick me out of Arthur's life? After all, I am his Aunt." Blakely's sad face turned angry.
“I know, but you just came into his life. He doesn't know you."
"He knows me well. We spent time together when I visited your house.”
Nickson gave a faint smile that sounded sinister. "In four years of his life, you were only present for no more than two hours. Do you think a kid of Arthur's age will remember you and want you to be around him?”
Blakely clenched her fists furiously in her lap. She knew Nickson saw her clenching her fists.
“I'll prove to you that Arthur wants me better than he wants you. Huh, you're nothing more than a workaholic who rarely spends time with him. Do you know his habit before going to bed? You know which storybook he likes?”
Nickson didn't say anything. Instead, he drove his car out of the intersection when the traffic light turned green. He held back his anger because Blakely's words hit the spot. He never knew what Arthur's habits were and what storybooks he liked. He always came home late at night when Arthur was asleep. And the next day he only had time to talk to Arthur for a while before he left for the office and the boy was still sleepy because he had just woken up.
“You can't take care of your son, Nickson. You were never close to him."
“I am his father, never forget that fact. I know what to do with my son."
“You've always relied on Rebecca to take care of Arthur. You never did it in person.”
"We don't need to argue about this. My household is none of your business," said Nickson flatly.
They arrived at the Nickson residence which was quite crowded with mourners. Some people show sad faces that are not made up. Blakely was so relieved that Rebecca had the affection of the people around here. Previously she was a little doubtful that her sister's husband loved her sister because Nickson didn't show a loving look when he looked at Rebecca. For some reason, she saw that there were irregularities in the relationship between Rebecca and her husband. But she didn't want to speculate too much at this point. It was probably just prejudice because she was too annoyed at Nickson's attitude.
After Nickson stopped the car across from his house, Blakely rushed out of the car. She didn't look at Nickson at all or thank him for the ride. She thought he didn't deserve her thanks.
Just as she was about to open Nickson's car door, the man's voice stopped her and made her freeze for a moment.
"I don't want you to stay in my house too long. After Rebecca is buried, I want you to be gone forever from our lives.”
Her legs were wobbly and she almost fell when her shoe tripped over the uneven asphalt on the road in front of Rebecca's house. Blakely felt like giving up on her body right now. She wanted to fall on the hot asphalt and cry out loud. All the cold expressions she gave Nickson and her indifference were lies. She lied that she was unfazed by Nickson's words. She was deeply hurt by Nickson's blatant expulsion. From the moment she met him in this house, she had known that Nickson hated her. The man was always cynical and skeptical of her for no apparent reason. But she suspected that Nickson was acting like that because of her absence all this time in Rebecca's life. The man made it clear to her that she was a selfish woman who had no right to enter Rebecca's life after all these years of silence. She had never contacted Rebecca all this time. She thought Rebecca would be fine with her family and she would contact her sister when she was mentally and financially stable. But now she regre
Nickson was greeting the mourners at his wife's funeral when he remembered that he had forgotten his watch which he had placed in the towel cabinet in his bathroom. He then whispered to his father to leave him for a while and rushed to his room on the second floor. When he opened the door, the room was empty. He had seen his mother and Arthur in the living room. As for Blakely, he didn't care where she was. If she goes faster from his house, that's even better. He didn't have to stare at her face for a long time and held back annoyance because of her presence here. He walked rather hastily to the bathroom and opened the door without hesitation. He didn't expect to find Blakely in the bathroom and combing her long hair with her curly fingers. The woman was surprised to see his presence there and hurriedly left through the narrow gap left by his body and the door frame. He accidentally smelled the scent of Blakely's shampoo from her tousled hair as she hurried past him. Blakely's ha
Blakely found plenty of casseroles on the dining table. She exhaled heavily and immediately moved to clear the dining table from the pile of food. The kind mourners had cooked the meal for Arthur and Nickson. But they wouldn't be able to finish all the rice and casseroles from the mourners. Even if she kept it in the fridge, she wasn't sure Nickson would eat it again for tomorrow, the day after, and next week. These casseroles are plentiful! Blakely barely knows how to get rid of this casserole. In addition, there was still plenty of food on the table in the living room which was reserved for the wake after Rebecca's funeral. So Blakely just wrapped the casseroles in plastic wrap and put them all in Nickson's big fridge. She was grateful that Rebecca didn't store too many ingredients in the refrigerator, so she could fit five casserole pans on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator. "Why are you still here?" That voice... Blakely was annoyed that Nickson still remembered to bother h
The silence was annoying in the car. Once again Blakely had to feel the tension in Nickson's car. She turned down his offers many times to be driven home. Calling a taxi or Uber would be the best option at this point rather than being stuck with icy Nickson. But the man growled and insisted. He gestured toward the door to his living room— where there stood Mrs. Hulya, watching them through her reading glasses. In a whisper, Nickson said that his mother was the most stubborn and irresistible woman. Once she wants something, she wants everything to go her way. Including tonight, Hulya wanted Nickson to get Blakely back to her apartment safely. The middle-aged woman loved Blakely after taking a closer look at her personality and didn't want anything bad to happen to her again. Finally, Blakely was forced to get into Nickson's car. She was already feeling nauseous before she stepped into the car imagining the unpleasant things that would happen while driving with Nickson. And what she fea
The next morning Blakely wakes up with a big disaster. She couldn't move from her bed. She lay on her back staring at the ceiling of her very clean room. Her eyes blinked repeatedly. She wanted to roll to the right, but that required more effort to do. What she thought was fine, turned out to be not at all. This morning she woke up feeling very sick. Her entire body, from her neck to her calves, was in excruciating pain. She couldn't move and was gasping for breath from the unbearable pain. Last night before going to bed she had taken the medicines given by the doctor. Previously she had been told that her body might be sick the next day and she was advised to rest immediately. But yesterday she had too much work to do. Rebecca's death and all sorts of emotions churning through her heart made her oblivious to her weak physical condition. And now she felt as weak as a decrepit old woman. She couldn't move her legs or arms to help her roll. She just stared blankly at the ceilin
Nickson turned around quickly. He didn't know since when Arthur had been standing in the doorway of his room, rubbing his half-closed eyes. Pajamas depicting astronauts and spaceships look wrinkled on his body. His copper hair, which was the same color as his, looked very messy, like a tangled palm broom."Why are you up so early? Can not sleep?"Nickson walked over to his son after he was done with the cuffs of his shirt. His tie was not properly attached and was still hanging from the collar of his shirt and dangling around his tough chest muscles."No Mommy was with me last night. Grandma can't read stories like Mommy."Something else he needed to deal with after Rebecca's death, Nickson thought grimly. Children are always the most difficult party to deal with these kinds of things. That's because they live with the thought that as long as they are young and unmarried, they are still under the responsibility of their parents. And as long as their paren
"Thanks for coming and being willing to look after Arthur today, Blakely."“No problem, Mrs. Hulya. I love looking after Arthur. He's a very adorable and smart boy."Blakely arrived around eight-thirty at Nickson's in an Uber. She still hasn't gotten a new car and her insurance is in the works. The reason she was late from the time she promised Mrs. Hulya was that she had to come to the police station and deal with all sorts of tedious red tape. She was even asked to testify in court two weeks later to determine the sentence the reckless truck driver would receive. And since it was the driver who had made a mistake, she would get compensation money from the company that hired the driver. It's just that everything requires a process. She was asked to complete various kinds of documents required by the company to withdraw the money. Blakely was annoyed with all the bureaucracy that made it so difficult for her. If only she didn't need a new car, she wouldn't care a
He watched her leave from the gap in the curtain that he pulled aside and formed a small slit the size of one of his eyes. He wasn't going to risk her knowing that he was watching her from behind the closed window of his house. He had been a complete fool for thinking it would be nice to kick her away, but he wasn't. When he saw the sadness on her face, his heart sank and beat fast. He is like a devil who is very evil because he has torn her heart. And what did he just witness? Her shoulders shook before she got into the taxi and slammed the door shut. Is she crying? Was she sad after I kicked her out? Nickson was feeling ridiculous now. His feet were still glued to the front window of his house and he was observing the empty street that stretched out in front of his house. The taxi had just left, but Nickson could still see Blakely's frail figure up ahead, crying with shaking shoulders. Yeah, he's probably crazy! With a huff, he backed away and headed for the kitchen. He wanted to
NOTE: Hi, this is only a small part of my latest story, THE DOCTOR'S SCANDAL. You can find Arthur's story after growing up here.Thank You The woman was wearing a short fuschia dress with spaghetti straps. She looks sexy, but she's not slutty. She wrapped herself in an untouched costly elegance. A simple gold watch wrapped around her wrist along with a beaded white gold bracelet. Apart from that there are no other accessories. There wasn't any ring on her finger. Her wavy auburn hair was like fire framing her resolute face. Ryker recognized Bella as a beautiful woman. Unfortunately, Bella has a mouth that is too presumptuous. Bella will not hesitate to snap at anyone who blatantly annoys her. "I wouldn't say that I'm glad to see you here." "I think so. But you are free to sit where you are, I will not kick you out.” “Well, this club is not yours. You can't kick me out while I'm here and paying for my drink." "I could have bought this place right now if I wanted to kick you out."
“I want to thank my management, my agent, and all my great staff, who have brought me to this point. Without their hard work, I would never be standing in this place to receive the most prestigious award in the field that I love so much. Oh and one more thing, a huge thank you to my dear husband, Ryker Rolland, who must be watching me from our favorite living room right now. It's a shame my husband can't be there to accompany me here.” “Bullshit!” Ryker turned off the television and threw the black remote onto the floor. A loud sound echoed throughout the silent sitting room. And then died silence. His beautiful and talented wife is a liar. Jessie had abandoned him for the sake of her career in the entertainment world. Now Jessie is in Milan, attending a prestigious award ceremony because her name is on the list of nominees. Jessie even left without telling him three days ago. Jessie reasoned that this trip was sudden and she didn't have time to tell him because her assistant had al
"Surprise!" Blakely exclaimed excitedly when the next day she got a surprise from Tiffany and Reese. They both suddenly came to New York and visited her in the hospital. Blakely has even been very annoyed lately because they don't seem to actively respond to every message she sends. But it looks like Reese and Tiffany deliberately looked nonchalant to surprise her. "Congratulations Nickson." Tiffany shook Nickson's hand and smiled gently. Then it was Reese's turn to congratulate Nickson. Suddenly the two of them became awkward. Reese held out his hand, and Nickson shook it stiffly. This was their first meeting after that day's beating. The two of them still looked awkward with each other, and Nickson suddenly asked Blakely for permission to come out to check on Arthur and her parents who were walking around the hospital garden. "I hope one day you two can chat more casually and sit together." Blakely looked at Reese with concern. "Stay cool. W
"Nickson, can you stay home today?" Blakely took over the tie that Nickson had just taken out of his dresser drawer, then she wrapped her arms around Nickson's neck. “Your birthday is still three weeks away, Honey. Don't use that excuse to keep me at home." Blakely pursed her lips pouting at Nickson. She let go of her hands that were wrapped around Nickson's neck, then she pulled Nickson's right hand and put it on top of her stomach. "The triplets are fighting in there, fighting to get out of their mother's womb first." "I don't feel anything," said Nickson mischievously, but then he immediately kissed Blakely's lips briefly and rubbed his wife's belly gently. "Is this a sign you're about to give birth?" "Who knows? Maybe yes, maybe no. But today I want you home with me. Can you? Please, Nick,” She showed her coquettish smile to Nickson. And her mischievous hands began to rise to caress Nickson's broad chest so that he chose to stay at home wi
Blakely yelped in surprise when Nickson suddenly grabbed her by the shoulders and forced her to lie down next to him. Nickson wrapped his arms and legs around her until Blakely literally couldn't move anywhere. "Since when did you wake up? You overheard my conversation with Reese?” “You even speak very loudly. There's no way I wouldn't wake up." Nickson grumbled while keeping his eyes closed. Nickson's chin was above the top of Blakely's head and his nose breathed in Blakely's always pleasant scent. "Sorry. It is a tradition. He used to call me in the middle of the night at Christmas. He always wanted to be the first to wish me a Merry Christmas.” "Okay. I'll be second then. Merry Christmas my dear wife." “Merry Christmas my possessive and jealous husband.” Blakely pushed against Nickson's chest, trying to free herself from his arms and legs because she wanted to see Nickson's face. "What are your hopes for Christmas this year?
Blakely was awakened by the sound of the telephone ringing above the nightstand. It sounded noisy and deafening in her too-quiet room. And more surprisingly, the caller called her at twelve one minute at night. If it wasn't a madman, someone calling her this late or this early was a complete lunatic. The phone kept ringing loudly as Blakely tried to gather her senses. She had to crawl a little harder to reach for the phone, and then she put it to her ear without seeing the name on the screen. "Did I wake you up?" "Of course. What kind of madman is calling at this hour?” Blakely grumbled. She tried to get Nickson's hands off her stomach and shifted onto the headboard so her back could rest comfortably. She was surprised that Nickson didn't wake up at all, even though her cell phone was ringing so loud. Nickson sleeping like a baby beside her in a sideways position towards her looking so cute. Nickson does look handsome and cute only when he sleeps. If he wakes up, Nickson can be ver
Nickson sped to the hospital like a madman on a whim. All the bad thoughts danced in his head like a scary ghost. He imagined Blakely's condition was really bad because Blakely wouldn't have passed out if she wasn't sick. He was a complete fool for not thinking about Blakely's mental state because of their fight. He still thought Blakely would be as tough as she was before she got pregnant. Blakely is now as fragile as a feather. If a strong wind hit, Blakely wouldn't be able to do anything but fly in the wind.Damn me!Nickson cursed himself over and over again. He made a sharp turn into the fairly deserted hospital parking lot. He was grateful that no pedestrians were passing around the parking lot. He would probably hit them one by one due to the insane speed of his car. To avoid getting into trouble with the annoying security guard, this time Nickson parked his car where it was supposed to be. He took a place as close to the lobby as possible. Then he jumped down and dashed into t
Nickson put his glass on the table, then he leaned back against the sofa with a more relaxed feeling. "We did fight that night. We were both too stubborn and childish. I guess that's the main problem. It's not your fault we fought." "I kissed you that night." "Not the first, right?" Bella felt her cheeks blush under Nickson's deadly gaze. How could Blakely let a man like Nickson just slip out of her grasp? Bella cursed Blakely's stupidity in her heart. There are many women out there who want their position to be the woman Nickson loves. She even wanted Blakely's position to be an important woman in Nickson's life. But Blakely squandered her chance and abandoned Nickson. "I know I've crossed the line. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have tried to kiss you. But you're not mad at me?" "What for? Will my anger stop you?” Bella nodded slowly. Of course not. Even if Nickson cursed her, she would still kiss Nickson because she always wondered
Nickson got out of his Jag and slammed the door loudly. Blakely was still in the car, trapped by fear and trepidation. What will Nickson do to her tonight? Was Nickson going to beat her up and tie her to the bed like psychopaths usually do? Knock knock A knock on the window interrupted Blakely's thoughts. She stuttered when she saw Nickson command in a loud voice she could even hear in a soundproof car. "Down. Now!" With a very slow motion, Blakely unbuckled her seatbelt, then stepped out hesitantly. "We have conditions and issues we need to talk about." "Your parents are inside. We can't possibly fight in front of them." "I know." Nickson cursed inwardly. When he wanted to vent all his anger, his mother and father were accompanying Arthur in there. "I'll throw them away." "What? You are crazy. Don't be rude to your parents just because you're mad at me." "I'll do it slowly. Wait for me in my study.”
