The chips had been staked, the drop was today, they had 2 co-ordinates, one was at lekki, and the other at a relatively farther location, it was the same time, they had the location, they were ready to intercept, the guns were loaded, their hearts crossed, today would be the day, Fasting had to be stopped.
The beach was always serene at night, the cool breeze would whisper, incomprehensive whispers, it was tranquil, precious, flawless, captivating, the waters would reach for the sand and withdraw back, like a muse, enticing the shore, the sight was infectious, tailored to lure, to attract, to amaze. It was the beauty of the sea shore, but as beautiful as it was, it had been a harbinger of one of the worst criminals in Lagos " Fasting ".
He was the crime boss, the godfather of the alley, the weaponizer, he had been very careful, hiding his tracks, avoiding the law seemed like his forté, Fasting was smart, cunning, deceitful, a ghost, a criminal, a killer. He had to be stopped, and today, would be that day, he wouldn't get away this time, the line was drawn, it was simple, most importantly, it was personal. Sunday was a member of a secret agency, like Fasting, he had his alias, as a secret agent, he was instinctive, fast, clever, ruthless, disciplined, a trained officer, but his alias, and the only side of him the bigger part of the world knew, was Joseph, he has been spying on Fasting, and had stolen something from him, the same thing that helped them in finding the co-ordinates, the same thing he would use to destroy him, if not for himself, then he would do it for her, or he would die trying.
He knew Fasting would do anything to get it back, and he would do anything to keep it away from him, this was it, the battle line, she was his fuel, and vengeance was his drive. The boats were approaching, the whispers faded, the tranquil whooshed away, the sand darkened, the battle had begun.
The boats arrived at the exact time they anticipated, and Fasting was there to receive them, one by one, they unloaded the vessels, stacks and stacks of cocaine, guns, gun powder, this was it, the day he had been waiting for, this was his opportunity, with a deep breath, and his vision clear, he locked his sight on his target, it was a clear shot, he wouldn't miss, he placed his hands on the trigger, his body hidden, in a croutched position, ready, he exhaled, but something was wrong, this was easy, too easy.
Before he could figure out why, the captain gave the order, and in seconds, they surrounded Fasting and his goons.
" Surrender your weapons, now !!! " the captain yelled, they approached the criminals, who surrendered without protest, he still couldn't get the feeling away, something wasn't right, he had always thought he had homed his skills, but he was wrong, he let his guard down, he missed the sign, if he had been suspicious of Fasting's confidence before, despite his unveiling, what happened next assured his doubt . In a split second, before they could react, bullets sprayed at them, it wasn't from Fasting, or his goons, this was an insider, a spy, a traitor, Fasting had made traitors of their own men, they would die without a fight, unsuspecting. In minutes, the beach sands stained with blood, blood from his brothers, from his friends, from his family, they had been betrayed.
His vision clouded, his head ached, his heart shattered, this had been his family, the only family he had left, and Fasting had killed them, he saw their faces, each one of them, as they fell, clueless, unable to even defend themselves, the images tortured him, as he made his way to the apartment, his clothes stained with blood. He had suffered a bullet wound, and he was bleeding, he couldn't give up, he had to hide it, to keep it safe, if Fasting could find his way into the organization, then, no where was safe. He struggled with the pain, and the door, falling on his injured leg, causing a painful groan as he pressed his lips hard against each other, with another groan he pulled himself up, and slid behind the bed, he reached for a socket, and ripped the cover off, then he removed a bag, a bag that contained the chip Fasting was after. He had suffered two gunshots to his side, he had to take the bullet out, or risk it being infected, this was one of the greatest challenge he had ever had to face, he had to pull 2 bullets out of his body.
The fire made the iron on the knife dark, as dark as the soul of the monster Fasting, he was the devil in human form, and he would do everything he could to send him back to hell, where he belonged, he placed a mirror in front of himself, but he saw a whole different person, a shadow of what he had once been, a man, who had his heart ripped out, and helplessly watched as it was taken away, he had died that night, he couldn't save her, and he couldn't forgive himself, he gagged himself, the knife hissed as it touched his skin, the pain was excruciating, his guilt had exposed him, he was vulnerable, anxious, wounded, the pain intensified, as did the ache in his tempo, when he pulled out the bullet he bit back the most he could out of a scream, the gag had played it's part, it was time to remove the second, his hands were shaking, bloody, cold, he felt as if death had finally found him, he wasn't ready to die, he still had to get the bullet out, half dazed, he reached for the second, it was like an explosion, as though he fell into a trance, being hit by a train would be better than this, it was agonizing, slow, malignant, he could see her, she was calling to him, it was a garden, like the garden she made him promise they would make together, once she could fight her addiction, the ixoras were in full bloom, the roses in red lush, it was as perfect as she had described it, the air had a fragrance that only the flowers could give, and for the first time, everything was peaceful, until suddenly, the red turned black, the lush withered, the air clouded with smoke, it destroyed everything, and she burned, right in the middle of it, in that instant, he screamed the loudest, he couldn't do anything, the flowers were gone, she was gone, and he was left alone, with a bullet in his hand, as he fell to the endless pit of unconsciousness, all that was left was the blood, pain, and a sorrow he would have to live with, if he survived the night.
He woke up to the sounds of rain hitting the road, the thunder strong, the temperature cool, the winds aggressive, it had poured unend, he needed to get out of there, for all he knew, Fasting was still searching for him, and if not for the rain, the trace of blood would have led them straight to him, the bullets were out, he just had to stop the bleeding. It was a game of will, and a show of strength, as he sewed his skin back together, each piercing, as painful as the first, but it had to be done, if he wanted to see Fasting hit rock bottom.
The week that followed would have killed any normal man, but Sunday wasn't normal, he was trained to fend for himself, if the need arises, and that was exactly what he did, the world didn't know his pain, only he did, and he alone knew what he had to do. Things were going well, his plan was already in motion, Fasting had infiltrated the team, he had to warn the others, and he would had done that, had not the unexpected happened, the last minute visit that changed everything, he opened the door, that cold, rainy evening, only to find his old, lazy, cassanova of a friend, tall, slim, dark skinned, with half his muscles, he stood there, drenching in the downpour, the surprise in his voice couldn't be hidden, as the next word left his mouth.
" Mike ? "
" Hey , mind if I come in ?" he asked, but before he could get in, someone grabbed him from behind, what happened next was fast, sharp, a sting, a stab, then more, simultaneously, he was bleeding, struggling for breath, but one thing he knew for sure, these men weren't out for nothing, they were Fasting's men, Mike thought Fasting was after them for the cocaine they stole, years ago, but he was wrong, the three muscular men attacked Sunday, they had him at gun point, on his knees, while Mike bled on the floor, Mike didn't matter, but Sunday, they wanted alive, he had something they didn't, experience, and skill, and just as they tried to tie him up, he flung the gun from his attacker, it was fast, unexpected, as the others saw what had happened, they drew their weapons, gunshots fired, mixing with the bang of the thunder, there were ricochet bullets, Mike struggled with his wounds, pulling himself up, and away from the line of fire, then, he saw them, the cars, the goons, the guns, why would Fasting send so many people after them ? there wasn't time to think, while they were busy with Sunday, he made his escape, he didn't look back, until he finally dropped at her doorstep, bruised, battered, bloody, his salvation was on the other side of the door, and she had no idea what lied in store for her.
Hey guys 😁, thanks for reading, don't forget to RATE, SHARE AND COMMENT.
For the past 2 days, the weather had been cool, it had rained continuously, and the pedestrians were always in a cover of umbrellas, on a day like this, Alice would rather have nothing more than a cup of hot chocolate and toasted bread, while watching the latest marvel movie. She enjoyed them for their blend of comedy and action, but even more because they weren't real, none of it was, not the gods, not the aliens, not the meta humans, they were all a product of an open mind, a rich imagination, literature would call it fiction, but this was the exact opposite of her life, everything was real, Mike's attackers were real, the wounds were real, her worries were real, his pain was real, and so was the ever present conciousness of a lurking threat, she had not wasted a second to tell him to get out, had practically kicked him out herself, he was heartless, cruel, selfish, but he was hurt, and as fa
. The quiet was history as the bullets blasted freely into Alice's apartment, shards of glass, flying in the air, the dishes, the cabinets, the walls, all came crashing down as the metals shot right through them, this was completely different from how the movies made it seem, it was relentless, brutal, thirsty, one wrong move could mean sudden death, she was right to be scared, they were ready to kill anyone and everyone. The gunshots stopped, but the room was in chaos, Alice was still too shaken to get up, until the sound of Mike's voice brought her back to the reality they were in. " Alice ? Alice ? are you okay ? "his voice oozed with more concern for her life than his.
. Itwould only take a pull of the trigger, two pulls to finish them off, Mike's assault had bought them time, but it looked like their time had run out as fast as it came, he had succeeded in wounding his attacker, the force he used when he hit the plank against his head had left a pretty deep cut, still shaken from the impact, he saw him reach for the back of his head with his left hand, as if checking to see just how hurt he was, but instead of going into a mad rage, as would've been expected, the sight of his own blood seemed to cause some sort of excitement . Mike could neither control the fear nor the guilt of the tragedy he had brought to Alice's doorstep, if not for him she would still be safe , but his wishful thoughts didn't change anything, the reality stood in front of them, and it wa
. In combat, the possession of a weapon had often served as an advantage to the side fortunate enough to have one, that was the universal assumption, and it was evident in common fightings, from a wrestling ring, to little kids playing sword fight, to the cult boys, as well as the troublesome bus conductors, regardless of the size of their opponent the possession of a weapon more often than not awakened a degree of confidence in them. For Alice however, it was a different case scenario, she had the gun, but lacked the courage to fire, her eyes trailed round the men to the gas cylinder she had recently filled, that stood outside the kitchen a few metres away from where they stood, then she saw his arm tense as he prepared for his next kill, time wasn't on her side, nothing was.
. It was dark, lonely, silent, a cold silence that was occasionally broken by the sound of speeding cars, sounds which were often washed away as fast as they came, then the chill of the quiet reigned again, even the cresent moon had the company of stars, the nocturnal creatures had each other to bother, the spark of lighting had the cackle of thunder, but Alice had no one as she trailed the ever lonely road, it was her sole companion, she had no idea what would happen next, no where to go, she didn't make any attempt to return the numerous calls that continued flooding her phone, her life had drastically changed after Mike walked back into it, her future now appeared like a foggy field, nothing was clear anymore, the other day Mike had come to her house bathered and bloody, and now he was dead, the uncertainties made her sob even louder, but alas, she alone could hear them.
" Promise me you'll take care of her... Promise me !! " " Don't you do this, don't you dare ! " " I promise " " I...love... you " Mike's final words, before his hands dropped weakly, his eyes closed slowly, his heart... stopped. The nightmares weren't a surprise, it wasn't in her head, it had all happened, the surprising thing however, was that she was still alive, and in a place she had never known all her life, carefully tucked under a blanket, dressed in floral patterned pyjamas, and had band aids on the bruises she had sus
The car sped down the dark lane, its tires brushing against stones and rough sticks, it took a quick wheel onto the busy road illuminated with street lights, head lights, and bulbs hanging off miniature kiosks and table stands, of traders that dealt their business till the break of dawn, it was a rainy evening, the whippers flogged off the rain as it landed on the wheel screen, but despite that, it still looked misty on the inside of the car, compelling the driver to wipe it clear with the back of his hand. They bumped off from one speed break to another, from port holes to puddles, landing hard on the bad road, for the driver and his cohorts they didn't feel much of the impart, but that was more than could be said for Alice. It was as though she was being tossed back and forth in a very unpleasant
Grinnngggg, grinnngg !!, the resonating ring of the telephone echoed as it vibrated on a petite table, followed by racing footsteps as a middle aged caucasian female secretary raced to answer it. " Hello! social mentor! what can I do for you today ? " she answered politely, trying to sound as welcoming as possible to the receiver on the other end. " You could lay off the doughnuts, cut yourself some slack ! " the man on the other end of the phone responded offensively, with an annoying laugh. " Already dealing with the idiots and it's only 8 : 30 in the morning, "she hissed as she dropped the call , followed by the usual recorded laughs that are mostly accustomed to the audience in a sitcom, James adjusted in his seat as he laughed at the consistent flow of rib recking conversations from the popular Mr bean series that aired from 8- 8:30 pm on the boomerang channel, his laughs were in sync with that of the ever invisible audience, until the chime from a ring tone cau
Alice couldn't help but feel disturbed at the fact that they were at someone else's house yet again, their presence in the house of their host obviously threatened the man life, as they were still being chased by Fasting and the CSS. Sunday had tried to make her understand in the shortest and fastest way he possibly could, he didn't want her to feel like she was the reason why this man's life would be threatened. He had said a few things, how the man had been his mmentor and a true friend when he had joined the CSS, Cornelius had always been someone Sunday looked up to, he had every reason to follow Cornelius's instruction, after all Cornelius was the reason why he had joined the CSS in the first place.
Cornelius was a well to do man, despite having retired from his previous position as an agent of the CSS years ago, he was still very fit and lived quite a fairly comfortable life with his wife and twin daughters. Cheryl and Constance, beautiful bright young girls, they weren't exactly the spitting image of their father, but what they lacked in appearance, they made up to him in complexion and wit. Cornelius loved his family, and he cared about them more than he did himself, there wasn't a successful CSS agent alive who was without enemies, and enemies always preyed on the weaknesses of their adversaries. But Cornelius was smart enough to send them to a secure place, before his enemies could get to them. He had hesitated initially to part with them, but after the attempt to kidnap
If memories served her right, Alice knew this wasn't the first time she was meeting this particular police officer, he had seen the fight between Sunday and the other agents, and tried to intervene. Which would have cost him his life had he not been a good fighter on his own. He managed to fight off some of the agents, taking his fair share of significant blows of course, but luckily he hadn't been shot, however he wasn't so lucky to dodge the gun that hammered against the back of his head suddenly, and made him lose conciousness. Alice knew she had to have seen him somewhere, the only question now was where exactly.
Thud ! thud! thud! thud ! Sunday could hear them coming, hard footsteps pounding against the floor as the men approached the room where he hid with Alice. Sunday wasn't sure exactly how many they were, but by the sound of their footsteps, he could say roughly ten to fifteen. Well armed, well trained. He had been hiding out with Alice in the house ever since he almost died of the wounds he got when Fasting shot him. It has been three days already, and ever since then they had stayed low. Sunday knew he wouldn't be able to hide for too long, sooner or later the agency would track him down, Thomas and Shola were traitors who worked with Fasting, with their help Fasting would get to him in no time.
The last thing Sunday remembered before he passed out was Alice trying to keep him conscious, he thought he would've died that night, he hoped he had died, at least then he would be free from the guilt of having disappointed his sister everytime. Yes, Fasting was still alive, and once again Sunday had failed. With the help of agent Thomas and Shola, Fasting had escaped, Reuben as well as Susan had been shot, and no one knew if they were still alive. Sunday had been able to take the bullet intended for Alice, and it had almost killed him. However he was far from dead.
Alice had felt like someone dropped the weight of the world on her shoulders the moment she saw the video of her mother, father and brother being gagged and beaten by Fasting's thugs. Fasting had threatened to kill them before, but they had been able to escape before he could do anything, at least with that Alice's heart could rest easy, even though she had no idea where they had escaped to, she was content and hopeful, praying they would all be fine. Anywhere is a better option than being held hostage with little or no chances of survival. Last she heard about them, they had been lucky enough to run into one of her uncles who was a military personnel, at least with him and his squad protecting her family, they were safe for now. &
" What are you even saying ? " Alice asked, staring at Sunday as if he had said something outrageous, he seemed fully aware of just how ridiculous he had sounded just now, because he didn't say a word in his defense. " You are still hurt, " Alice said, rising to her feet she glared at Sunday, " the agency is still after you, Fasting is after you, we don't even know where Reuben and Susan could be, we don't even know if they're still alive, you can't just run off knowing about all of this . " Alice said again, trying her best to reason with Sunday. Sunday fell speechless hearing Alice's words, he knew her words proved true all too well. Judging from their present situation, as well as the threat that lied in wait, going outside was suicide. They
Alice rested her head on the bed where Sunday slept, she had fallen asleep a while ago, but it was already morning, she hadn't been able to get much sleep, truly, she had barely gotten any sleep at all. Taking the bullet out of Sunday's chest was an ordeal, the biggest and most dangerous thing Alice had ever done in her entire life. There was so much blood, so much pain, so many things that could go wrong, Alice was no doctor, the only thing she knew about bullets wounds if she knew at all, was that they bled a lot, they put you in a world of excruciating pain, and yes, they are impossible to look at. But somehow she had overcome that fear of blood and managed to pull out the bullet from Sunday, he would live . Sunday clearly was no stranger to bullet wounds, he had the scars to show for them, forget scars, he
Blood trailed behind them as they dragged along the dark, silent road. Sunday had been badly hurt, and the longer his wounds stayed untreated the more chances were of him bleeding to death. If it had been during the day or even in the brighter hours of the evening, they might've seen someone willing to help them. But it wasn't early, it was late, dark and as quiet as a grave yard. Alice tried her best to help Sunday get help, and hopefully get away from the goons that were after them, she looked behind her several times, nothing was in sight, the darkness like a blanket had covered it all. Even if anyone had been there, she wouldn't have been able to see them.
