Reuben hadn't stopped screaming when he felt his chord snap, it broke suddenly, leaving him falling half the height he had jumped, to a painful hard landing that would do no less damage to his body as if he were hit by a moving truck. However, luck was on his side, and he landed on the back of a truck carrying a bunch of cartons.

" Urgh... urgh... urgh, " Reuben gasped, feeling his body with his hands to make sure he was still alive, he was, at least he could still count his fingers, everything felt normal, until he tried to sit up, and then heard his back snap, " owwww, oww, ow, ow, " he grimaced, and finally got down from the truck, holding on to his aching back.

Sunday was right, the jump was crazy, but at least they got down before Fasting.

Fasting ran out of the building suddenly, aiming the gun at an

" Alice !! Alice !! " Sunday screamed back into the phone , " you son of a bitch, you monster, what did you do to her ! " Sunday cursed. " Easy, easy, " the voice said, " didn't your mother ever teach you not to use foul language ? my, my, " the voice taunted him, and then cracked into a sinister laugh again. " Listen here, you son of a bitch, if you hurt her, I will make your life a living hell, do you understand me ? " Sunday threatened. " Is that a challenge ? Bright lights shone against his eyes immediately he tried to open them, his hands could only block off so much of the blinding light that made him squint, and it took a few more seconds before they adjusted to it. But even though his eyes were open now, he still rubbed at them, doubtful of what stood before him. It looked like the center of a forest, there were tall trees all around, and he could hear the sounds of multiple birds flapping their wings high above the trees, at first he thought his mind played tricks on him, but the more he looked, the more real they appeared. The last thing Sunday remembered before he blacked out was the explosion, Paul lying unconscious in front of him, and a pair of boots, then a stretcher, then it all went dark. The bomb

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 39

Alice stared at the thug as he laid on the floor, still and unconscious. The only thing that assured her that he still had life in him was the in and out movement of his chest, she had only knocked the living day lights out of him, that wasn't enough to kill him, but it was sufficient to send him down to a long head throbbing nap, while she figured out a way to escape the nightmare that she was currently trapped in. She walked a few steps closer to him, just to make sure, he was as still as still could be, she had knocked him out cold, she quickly placed the gun on the drawer and pressed both hands against her mouth, as if shocked at her own actions. Alice hadn't thought about the next part of her plan, infact, she hadn't thought about a plan at all, now that he was unconscious, she suddenly found herself clueless as to what actions to take next. They were probably more men on the other side of the door, with just as much muscle as this one, and defin

Reuben and Susan stared at Sunday through the perfectly clean and transparent doors of his hospital room. It had been two days since the explosion, the affairs at the white baker were slowly getting back to normal, and as expected, the CSS had blamed the explosion on a terrorist attack. However, funds had been given to the hotel's management, and repairs had already commenced, but the people were still shaken from the incident, a couple of people had been hurt, some even worse than others, plenty were obviously still shaken, and while the repairs were still ongoing, the authorities adviced that no one visited the hotel, at least not in the mean time. Like Sunday, Paul had been badly hurt, but he responded well to treatment, a nurse had reported he even said a few words the night before, but almost immediately he slipped back into unconsciousness. The doctors assured that it hadn't been anything unusual, he had hit his head pretty hard on the ground wh

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 41

Some nurses gathered round Sunday, three of them to be exact, they mumbled a few things, none of which he could hear, or even anyone else for that matter. Then after a while, one of them left, and almost immediately after, the second nurse nodded to the last nurse, before she equally left, the remaining nurse knew what she had to do, she took one look at Sunday and then fixed her eyes on his IV, her job was simple, all she had to do, was kill him. The next minute she turned around, and it looked like she was heading for the door, when she stopped, reached in for the curtains by the doors, and pulled them over the transparent glass. With a cunning demeanor, she sashayed towards Sunday who rested helplessly on his bed. She pulled out a pair of handgloves, and fitted them perfectly onto her fingers, then she reached for a syringe, and afterwards, dipped her hand into her pocket and brought out a tiny bottle, she sucked the content of the bottle with the sy

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 42

Alice had tried figuring out a way to escape ever since they trapped her inside the room. She knew they would be back soon, or at least she hoped they would come back. She looked up at the old clock on the wall, it was riddled with cobwebs, but she could still make out the time, it was eight in the evening. For the past nine hours she hadn't seen anyone, it was almost as if no one was coming. She had tried listening for foot steps or even faint voices, but nothing. The room was dirty indeed. But there were still a few old things she could put to good use, like the cutlass she had found by the broken down cupboard for instance, or pieces from a shattered mirror, she wrapped a large piece of dirty cloth at the end of the broken mirror. That way she could hold it without cutting herself. She was ready, and whoever opened the door first, would suffer in her world of pain. Just when she thought about her plans, she heard them, footsteps, from the w

Alice couldn't help but feel disturbed at the fact that they were at someone else's house yet again, their presence in the house of their host obviously threatened the man life, as they were still being chased by Fasting and the CSS. Sunday had tried to make her understand in the shortest and fastest way he possibly could, he didn't want her to feel like she was the reason why this man's life would be threatened. He had said a few things, how the man had been his mmentor and a true friend when he had joined the CSS, Cornelius had always been someone Sunday looked up to, he had every reason to follow Cornelius's instruction, after all Cornelius was the reason why he had joined the CSS in the first place.

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 57

Cornelius was a well to do man, despite having retired from his previous position as an agent of the CSS years ago, he was still very fit and lived quite a fairly comfortable life with his wife and twin daughters. Cheryl and Constance, beautiful bright young girls, they weren't exactly the spitting image of their father, but what they lacked in appearance, they made up to him in complexion and wit. Cornelius loved his family, and he cared about them more than he did himself, there wasn't a successful CSS agent alive who was without enemies, and enemies always preyed on the weaknesses of their adversaries. But Cornelius was smart enough to send them to a secure place, before his enemies could get to them. He had hesitated initially to part with them, but after the attempt to kidnap

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 56

If memories served her right, Alice knew this wasn't the first time she was meeting this particular police officer, he had seen the fight between Sunday and the other agents, and tried to intervene. Which would have cost him his life had he not been a good fighter on his own. He managed to fight off some of the agents, taking his fair share of significant blows of course, but luckily he hadn't been shot, however he wasn't so lucky to dodge the gun that hammered against the back of his head suddenly, and made him lose conciousness. Alice knew she had to have seen him somewhere, the only question now was where exactly.

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 55

Thud ! thud! thud! thud ! Sunday could hear them coming, hard footsteps pounding against the floor as the men approached the room where he hid with Alice. Sunday wasn't sure exactly how many they were, but by the sound of their footsteps, he could say roughly ten to fifteen. Well armed, well trained. He had been hiding out with Alice in the house ever since he almost died of the wounds he got when Fasting shot him. It has been three days already, and ever since then they had stayed low. Sunday knew he wouldn't be able to hide for too long, sooner or later the agency would track him down, Thomas and Shola were traitors who worked with Fasting, with their help Fasting would get to him in no time.

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 54

The last thing Sunday remembered before he passed out was Alice trying to keep him conscious, he thought he would've died that night, he hoped he had died, at least then he would be free from the guilt of having disappointed his sister everytime. Yes, Fasting was still alive, and once again Sunday had failed. With the help of agent Thomas and Shola, Fasting had escaped, Reuben as well as Susan had been shot, and no one knew if they were still alive. Sunday had been able to take the bullet intended for Alice, and it had almost killed him. However he was far from dead.

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 53

Alice had felt like someone dropped the weight of the world on her shoulders the moment she saw the video of her mother, father and brother being gagged and beaten by Fasting's thugs. Fasting had threatened to kill them before, but they had been able to escape before he could do anything, at least with that Alice's heart could rest easy, even though she had no idea where they had escaped to, she was content and hopeful, praying they would all be fine. Anywhere is a better option than being held hostage with little or no chances of survival. Last she heard about them, they had been lucky enough to run into one of her uncles who was a military personnel, at least with him and his squad protecting her family, they were safe for now. &

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 52

" What are you even saying ? " Alice asked, staring at Sunday as if he had said something outrageous, he seemed fully aware of just how ridiculous he had sounded just now, because he didn't say a word in his defense. " You are still hurt, " Alice said, rising to her feet she glared at Sunday, " the agency is still after you, Fasting is after you, we don't even know where Reuben and Susan could be, we don't even know if they're still alive, you can't just run off knowing about all of this . " Alice said again, trying her best to reason with Sunday. Sunday fell speechless hearing Alice's words, he knew her words proved true all too well. Judging from their present situation, as well as the threat that lied in wait, going outside was suicide. They

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 51

Alice rested her head on the bed where Sunday slept, she had fallen asleep a while ago, but it was already morning, she hadn't been able to get much sleep, truly, she had barely gotten any sleep at all. Taking the bullet out of Sunday's chest was an ordeal, the biggest and most dangerous thing Alice had ever done in her entire life. There was so much blood, so much pain, so many things that could go wrong, Alice was no doctor, the only thing she knew about bullets wounds if she knew at all, was that they bled a lot, they put you in a world of excruciating pain, and yes, they are impossible to look at. But somehow she had overcome that fear of blood and managed to pull out the bullet from Sunday, he would live . Sunday clearly was no stranger to bullet wounds, he had the scars to show for them, forget scars, he

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 50

Blood trailed behind them as they dragged along the dark, silent road. Sunday had been badly hurt, and the longer his wounds stayed untreated the more chances were of him bleeding to death. If it had been during the day or even in the brighter hours of the evening, they might've seen someone willing to help them. But it wasn't early, it was late, dark and as quiet as a grave yard. Alice tried her best to help Sunday get help, and hopefully get away from the goons that were after them, she looked behind her several times, nothing was in sight, the darkness like a blanket had covered it all. Even if anyone had been there, she wouldn't have been able to see them.
