From where he stood on the rail on his balcony, he could see the torrent of the waves, the harsh reclaim of the water, and the frail withdrawal of the beach sands, a frailty similar to the life he had before now, the defeat of the sands, and steady lash of the water somehow unearthed the traumatic replays of how his drunken step father had used his mother as a punching bag, everyday, since the very first day he moved in with them, it normally started with a punch, then another, and another, his fists making a mess of her face. Then he would rip her clothes off, revealing her scarred body, and turn to the eight year old, who couldn't possibly do anything to fight him off, he would grab him by the shirt, and despite her cries that he leave her son alone, drag him down the stairs, jet him across the room, and smash his body against the wall and empty bottles of cheap beer that scattered on the floor, more often than not leaving him to battle with his wounds alone, while he returned to torture his mother, the boy would struggle to pull himself up, despite the pain from the shards of glass imbeded in his skin and his open wounds, crawl up the stairs in hopes of rescuing her, but he would meet the door shut, and no matter how hard he banged, it never came open, only the piercing sounds of his mother's screams, as she was beaten, dragged, drugged and raped.

He forced himself on her till she finally stopped screaming, then the door would open, and she would just lay there, marked all over, scared for her life, her whole body swollen, with her palms against her bloody face, as tears trickled down to her shivering lips, he didn't care if she died from the pain, all that mattered was the money he got from her, and he made sure to leave with every single penny of her sweat and blood.

" Why didn't she leave ? " the girl beside him questioned, her eyes fixed on his face awaiting a response, but he wouldn't give one, instead he reached for the stool beside him, grabbed a cigar and sucked on it, then let the smoke out through his nose and mouth.

Judging from his demeanor, it was clear he wasn't ready to say anything, but she wasn't ready to give up either, almost completely immersed in the tub water, her head rests against his shoulders, as she glided her fingers up and down his chest, and pressed her lips against it, then she continued to his neck, slowly moving in front of him, pushed in between his legs, and exposed her bare front, just enough to arouse him, right before she cupped his face in her hands

" Tell me, " she pleaded again.

He fixed his eyes on her body. His expression remained stoic and unpredictable, leaving her startled all the more with what he did next, the pain and surprise caused a gasp to escape her lips, as he yanked her hair backwards and nibbled her neck , then bringing his attention down to her robust chest, he dropped soft kisses in between her breasts, making her gasp even louder, she is left almost breathless as he slammed her body against the side of the bathtub, his hands firm on her hips as he pushed himself against her, in full control as he curlef his hands round every inch of her naked body, giving him full access to her body.

she dug her fingers into his hair and shuddered underneath his burning passion, delighting in the rush of intimate exchange between them, and the arousal of their bodies exploding underneath the tub's shallow water, her soft ecstatic moans accompanied by his orgasmic grunts, as they pushed back and forth against the bathwater, relishing in the allure of each others feel and the fidget of climax, nothing could pull him away from her at this point, nothing except the annoying buzz of his ringing cell phone.

His phone only rang for two reasons, it either meant the job was done or something had gone terribly wrong, loosening his grip around her hips, he dropped one more kiss on her back and  stepped out of the tub, flaunting his physique as he moved across the wet floor, his whole body leading a trail of soap, sweat and water down the tiles, he took a first glance at the caller, picked up the buzzing phone and finally taped on the receiver.

" Hello " he answered sternly.

" Hello boss ? " the voice on the other end of the line responded

" What is it ? " he questioned.

       " We have her, "

" Good, then bring her to me, if she has anything to do with my thief, he'll come for her, she needs to stay alive, do you understand, I want her alive and untouched, is that clear ?" he continues, stressing his last sentence.

        " Yes sir "

He was a step closer to getting his hands on his enemy, and putting an end to their unfinished business, once and for all, he placed the phone down having ended the call. That was one out of his priorities, the other however, waited patiently, only few feets behind him.

Turning around he smiled cunningly at her, and said

        " Now, where were we ? "

                      *         *          *

Without being told, Alice could tell by the scent, what perfume the person standing in front of her had on, it was what most would call an almost perfect blend of lavender and peppermint, a mixture most of the actresses often used to show  themselves more appealing to the popular actors that occasionally breezed in while they were on set. Many of them would often recommend it as one of the best, but she had always found it to be more shoking than desirable.

The mall like on everyother day was busy, with  customers going in and out the glass rotating doors, everyone seemed to be going about their own business, and the queue at the cashier's stand was still as long as it had been on rush hour days like this, it looked just fine, nothing appeared suspicious or even remotely threatening, there weren't any guns or kidnappers, her hands weren't tied like they were when she last saw them, nor did her clothes look worn out in any way, in disbelief she pulls at the the designer marron long sleeve top and brushes her palms against the white highwaist chiffon skirt, starting in disbelief at her reflection from the five foot long standing mirror, if nothing at all they stuck to her body so well it gave off her figure in perfect light, nothing made sense, one minute she had been restrained and gagged, fighting to get away from the men who had captured her, and now she was in a mall trying on new clothes she knew quite well were way above her budget, a soft tap at her shoulder drew her attention back to the present situation, her heart skipped a beat at the unexpected touch, and she quickly turned with the surprise still evident on her face.

" Woah, calm down, it's only me,  " the young man in front of her affirmed, stunned at her reaction.

Bright ripped blue jeans, a white short sleeve t-shirt, and two dragon tattoos, the shock hard enough to bend her knees, she stared as he smiled back at her, and moved even closer to her, holding his hands halfway up in mid air, making it clear he hadn't tried to do anything wrong, he looked at her straight in the eye, but she was unable to say anything.

" Are you okay ? " he asked, his hands falling slowly on her shoulders, eyes locked on her in a concerned stare.

Speechless, she moved away from him, taking a step back, bewildered at the possibility of this being real, she had seen him get shot, he had grown cold right before her eyes, and had breathed his last, he had died in her arms, he couldn't possibly be the same man that stood in front of her, she saw Sunday carry his lifeless body out to the cemetery, he was dead, and she was sure of it.

" Alice ? " he questioned again, moving even closer to her, " Alice, what's wrong ? " he questioned, but she withdrew away from him.

" Who ... are you ?" she finally stuttered.

" Who am I ? what do you mean, it's me, Mike, your boyfriend ? " he responded, moving even closer, but she slapped his hand away before he could touch her, and grabbed a hanger from the table beside them, pointing it at him, she threatened to hit him with it, if he came any closer.

" Alice, what is going on, it's me Mike, you wanted us to go shopping together " he continued, trying to grab a hold of the hanger.

She scanned the room of designer shoes and couture outfits, where a number of people now starred at her as though she was a crazy person, some were taking pictures with their cellphones, while others just making  jests.

Then from behind her, the sales attendant tried to calm her down.

" Ma'am, please I need you to put the hanger down, "

" Alice put it down, you're causing a scene " Mike said

" Causing a scene ? you're supposed to be dead, I saw them shoot you, you died, right before my eyes, " she continued, the tears now visible in her eyes " that's it, this isn't real, I'm.. I'm dreaming, "

From a distance she heared the stamping footsteps of the security officers, as they raced towards her.

" Ma'am, we're going to have to ask you to drop that hanger, "

" Alice, put it down, please" Mike pleaded

" I saw you, you died, " she continues with tears in her eyes.

" Ma'am please put it down" one of the officer's ordered.

She kept her eyes fixed on them, swinging the hanger in different directions as they tried to take it from her, then a sharp feeling suddenly engulfed her, she felt the cold drop on the side of her face, then on her hair, the slow drippings now a rush of cold water drenching her completely, from her shoulders down to her feet,  goosebumps appeared on her hands, the rush of water brushed down her face like a curtain, her vision a blur, she moved back at a steady pace, unconscious of how close she now stood to the rail.

The rush continued, blinding her, the lights in the mall faded to a blur, and slowly a cold breeze blew away the entire room, as she plummeted down into the never ending darkness.

Forcing her eyes open, she drew a deep breath, sucking the wet air down her lungs, but it is hardly fresh air, and smelled more like damp and dirt, she couldn't see where they were taking her, as a bag had been placed over her head, but could feel the sharp sting of thorns flogging against her legs, as well as the burning pain of the tight ropes that bruised the skin around her wrist, the murky mud underneath her feet meant they trudged down a foot path, and the silence showed they were no where close to the express road, she inhaled and exhaled, drawing in tensed breathes that her kidnappers obviously didn't notice, it poured on, the rain drenching all three of them, and the cold breeze against her clothes made it even worse, she couldn't fight them off, she could barely see two steps in front of her,  they had knocked her out using chloroform when she didn't stop screaming, and now she had no idea where they were taking her, but if she had learned anything ; it was that they didn't want her dead, yet, but her hopes of getting away from them almost completely relied on a miracle happening, Sunday had been her only hope, but they had taken him right before her eyes, no one was coming for her, she would have to fight or risk dying at their hands.

Shola tossed the coin up, using his thumb and index finger and it landed on tails on the back of his hand, this was one of his most reliable way of dealing with a problem, or rather a dilemma, he had assisted Fasting's goons in kidnapping Alice, had single handedly prevented Sunday from helping her, and had trapped him in the agency's web, but now he was stuck between the bridges of his next conspiracy, one way or the other he knew Sunday would go after her, and trusting Sunday, finding Alice wouldn't be much of a difficulty, but however, there was his dilemma, how he was going to go about stopping Sunday, bringing us back to why he needed the coin, heads meant he wouldn't have to kill anyone to carry out his plan, while tails on the other hand meant there would be a casualty, seeing as that would be the case he highlighted from the car and proceeded to set his next plan in motion. Moving in his usual purposeful strides, he headed for the building only few feets away from

" We have just received reports about shootings in the Eastern daily mall, according to information reaching us some criminals had tried to rob the mall, but luckily the security officers caught them and that resulted in a battle of bullets, following the reports, the gunshots had been fired at about 9:00pm this evening, stirring up the general public, as most of them fled the scene for dear life. " It had only been minutes after the shooting, but the media were already all over the place, to them news like this was as good as black gold, and they could kill to get the headlines. Paul and his team had arrived at the mall, the gates had been closed, bar

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 19

His eyes said it all, the madness of a dog in heat. He watched as his partner pulled off the blind fold from her face, and stared as she winched from the sudden brightness of the light. Fasting had made it clear that he didn't want her dead, but hadn't mentioned anything else, all this thug wanted was a good time, no one had to know, she wouldn't scream, his hands were big enough to cover her lips, and his body was hard enough to keep her from struggling, aroused and excited he reached down to his zipper with his eyes still fixed on her and felt his hardness, he was so hard he couldn't wait to have her, but he needed to be alone with her, just the two of them. " Who are you, and what do you want

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 20

Alice shuddered at the sight of the man who was hellbent on assaulting her, he stood merely inches away from the bed where she stayed defenseless, her cries for help to her invicible rescuers seemed as though they were soft tunes to him as he grinned all so widely at the sight of her vulnerablity, he inched even closer and suddenly stopped, her eyes trailed his hands as they reached for his back pocket, he dug in deeper and then drew his hand out, with what followed being an eight inch long dagger, slowly he pulled it out of the sheet, and dropped the sheet on the floor, as he continued to the bed. " What's wrong Alice, you seemed so confident before, what happened all of a sudden ? " he questioned and dropped beside her on the bed, " where is that fire i saw in your eyes earlier " he questioned aga

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 21

Alice laid still, her sleeping look gave off such innocence and frailty that for a minute she didn't seem like the same person whose life had suddenly taken a drastic turn for the worse, from one bad luck to another, as though a couple of gray haired, long nailed, toothless witches had cast an evil eye on her, long strands of hair fell across her face just in the right way, it brushed against her cheeks and the rest crept back along her ears until they fell down on the bed sheets, apart from her face and neck her entire body was enveloped, submerged under a warm definition of comfort masked in the form of a pink blanket, that looked rather too patronised by floral patterns. The soft breeze touched at her face, it's invisible touch toyed with her hair as it pulled it even further awa

. The sudden blast ripped her eyes away from his as they both stared in the direction where it came from, at a distance a slender figure emerged from the array of trees, she sashayed, swaying her hips so confidently as if she owned the place, Alice couldn't make out exactly who she was, but looking again at Sunday he didn't seem bothered, the closer the mysterious lady got, the more Alice could make out her features, she had a slim but strong pose, a blue jean tightened against her hips, and a white polo top hugged her posterior, she wore dark shades that made it impossible to see her eyes, and for some reason she could already picture what her back side looked like, this was inappropriate, there were other important things, like how she had almost been raped, what happened to her abductors, if they had a lead on Fasting, or what could be done to give her her life back, she hadn't imagined that instead of all those details she would be more concerned about a complete strang

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 23

Sunday led the way, opening the door into a slightly smaller room when compared to the others, Alice stared jaw dropped at what had possibly been the most sophisticated pieces of modern technology packed in one place that she had ever seen, the screens, five of them to be exact hung from the wall of the room, running with numbers and codes that she couldn't understand, it reminded her of something she saw from the matrix the way the numbers kept on rushing through. She recognized Susan, who stood merely inches away from the young man that kept on clicking and clacking away at the keyboard, that figure of her's was almost impossible to miss despite the fact that she stood with her back facing the door, she held a glass of champagne in her hand, and still had that revolver tucked in her back pocket, as intimidating as ever, Alice equally recognized Reuben, who had been in the dinning room earlier, he too had his attention fixed on whatever it was the tech guy was do

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 24

Alice couldn't bring herself to sleep even though she needed it, she was so worried about them it made her head throb, she wondered how dangerously foolish the plan was, as if walking into the lion's den wasn't enough, they had to call the devil to be a spectator. Fasting was dangerous on his own without having to lure the CSS, even if no one noticed them because of the mask, anything could happen, someone could easily just rip it off their faces and that would be it for them, that would be the end of it, and the more she thought about it, the more it made no sense, but again theses weren't just ordinary people, they were trained agents, prepared for anything, surely they would be able to handle it if anything went rouge, surely, she hoped, but even that didn't do much to douse the flames of her anxiety. Staring at the ceiling, that obviously looked as expensive as virtually almost everything in the house did, she wondered again if the operation was going as plan

Alice couldn't help but feel disturbed at the fact that they were at someone else's house yet again, their presence in the house of their host obviously threatened the man life, as they were still being chased by Fasting and the CSS. Sunday had tried to make her understand in the shortest and fastest way he possibly could, he didn't want her to feel like she was the reason why this man's life would be threatened. He had said a few things, how the man had been his mmentor and a true friend when he had joined the CSS, Cornelius had always been someone Sunday looked up to, he had every reason to follow Cornelius's instruction, after all Cornelius was the reason why he had joined the CSS in the first place.

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 57

Cornelius was a well to do man, despite having retired from his previous position as an agent of the CSS years ago, he was still very fit and lived quite a fairly comfortable life with his wife and twin daughters. Cheryl and Constance, beautiful bright young girls, they weren't exactly the spitting image of their father, but what they lacked in appearance, they made up to him in complexion and wit. Cornelius loved his family, and he cared about them more than he did himself, there wasn't a successful CSS agent alive who was without enemies, and enemies always preyed on the weaknesses of their adversaries. But Cornelius was smart enough to send them to a secure place, before his enemies could get to them. He had hesitated initially to part with them, but after the attempt to kidnap

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 56

If memories served her right, Alice knew this wasn't the first time she was meeting this particular police officer, he had seen the fight between Sunday and the other agents, and tried to intervene. Which would have cost him his life had he not been a good fighter on his own. He managed to fight off some of the agents, taking his fair share of significant blows of course, but luckily he hadn't been shot, however he wasn't so lucky to dodge the gun that hammered against the back of his head suddenly, and made him lose conciousness. Alice knew she had to have seen him somewhere, the only question now was where exactly.

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 55

Thud ! thud! thud! thud ! Sunday could hear them coming, hard footsteps pounding against the floor as the men approached the room where he hid with Alice. Sunday wasn't sure exactly how many they were, but by the sound of their footsteps, he could say roughly ten to fifteen. Well armed, well trained. He had been hiding out with Alice in the house ever since he almost died of the wounds he got when Fasting shot him. It has been three days already, and ever since then they had stayed low. Sunday knew he wouldn't be able to hide for too long, sooner or later the agency would track him down, Thomas and Shola were traitors who worked with Fasting, with their help Fasting would get to him in no time.

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 54

The last thing Sunday remembered before he passed out was Alice trying to keep him conscious, he thought he would've died that night, he hoped he had died, at least then he would be free from the guilt of having disappointed his sister everytime. Yes, Fasting was still alive, and once again Sunday had failed. With the help of agent Thomas and Shola, Fasting had escaped, Reuben as well as Susan had been shot, and no one knew if they were still alive. Sunday had been able to take the bullet intended for Alice, and it had almost killed him. However he was far from dead.

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 53

Alice had felt like someone dropped the weight of the world on her shoulders the moment she saw the video of her mother, father and brother being gagged and beaten by Fasting's thugs. Fasting had threatened to kill them before, but they had been able to escape before he could do anything, at least with that Alice's heart could rest easy, even though she had no idea where they had escaped to, she was content and hopeful, praying they would all be fine. Anywhere is a better option than being held hostage with little or no chances of survival. Last she heard about them, they had been lucky enough to run into one of her uncles who was a military personnel, at least with him and his squad protecting her family, they were safe for now. &

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 52

" What are you even saying ? " Alice asked, staring at Sunday as if he had said something outrageous, he seemed fully aware of just how ridiculous he had sounded just now, because he didn't say a word in his defense. " You are still hurt, " Alice said, rising to her feet she glared at Sunday, " the agency is still after you, Fasting is after you, we don't even know where Reuben and Susan could be, we don't even know if they're still alive, you can't just run off knowing about all of this . " Alice said again, trying her best to reason with Sunday. Sunday fell speechless hearing Alice's words, he knew her words proved true all too well. Judging from their present situation, as well as the threat that lied in wait, going outside was suicide. They

  • MARRED   CHAPTER 51

Alice rested her head on the bed where Sunday slept, she had fallen asleep a while ago, but it was already morning, she hadn't been able to get much sleep, truly, she had barely gotten any sleep at all. Taking the bullet out of Sunday's chest was an ordeal, the biggest and most dangerous thing Alice had ever done in her entire life. There was so much blood, so much pain, so many things that could go wrong, Alice was no doctor, the only thing she knew about bullets wounds if she knew at all, was that they bled a lot, they put you in a world of excruciating pain, and yes, they are impossible to look at. But somehow she had overcome that fear of blood and managed to pull out the bullet from Sunday, he would live . Sunday clearly was no stranger to bullet wounds, he had the scars to show for them, forget scars, he

Blood trailed behind them as they dragged along the dark, silent road. Sunday had been badly hurt, and the longer his wounds stayed untreated the more chances were of him bleeding to death. If it had been during the day or even in the brighter hours of the evening, they might've seen someone willing to help them. But it wasn't early, it was late, dark and as quiet as a grave yard. Alice tried her best to help Sunday get help, and hopefully get away from the goons that were after them, she looked behind her several times, nothing was in sight, the darkness like a blanket had covered it all. Even if anyone had been there, she wouldn't have been able to see them.
