Megan's POV
"She's your daughter. 100% related to you." I heard doctor James say. What's all these? First she resembles me and now the DNA test confirms she's my daughter. Who's she really? I'm starting to get scared. All these things are happening in the period of just two days.
"That can't be true. We both know the truth." James handed me the result. I collected it and my eyes scanned through the paper and I dropped it absentmindedly on the office table. Melanie picked it up and had a look. Judging from her looks, I knew she didn't understand a thing from it but later I guess she did because her expression changed. Reading medical books really helped her in decoding it, I guess. "But.. " I trailed off. I've lost track of words. What to do? With this result, no one will accept to take her in.
"Megan, I think you should just adopt her. Even though she's not your daughter, the result proves us wrong and the orphanage home would not accept her. And I suggest you get this test done in another hospital's laboratory." He advised. I was surprised and shocked beyond words so I couldn't decide easily what he just said. I was brought back when Melanie tapped me. I turned to look at her and the 'strange girl' as Melanie calls her.
"Mom, let's get going." She pulled my hand. I looked at James and he gave me a reassuring smile, I reciprocated the smile and we left his office. On our way home, we branched at another laboratory, had the test done and it was still the same. I guess I've got no choice but to accept her. I drove back to the orphanage home. I met with Sister Martha and told her the result.
"So I guess you should take your leave now. We're not accepting her."
"Okay, can you just accept her for today?"
"Why should we?"
"You know...this came as a shock to me. I never expected it to turn out this way and I don't know if she've got any certificate. So can you process adoption papers, please?" I begged. The nun thought for a while and accepted. "Thanks a lot. We'll be back tomorrow to get her back." I said, patted the girl on her head and got out. Minutes later, we were at home.
I ordered some of the maids to get one of the rooms ready for the five-year old girl. I ordered for some things that girls her age fancy and in a couple of hours, the things were delivered and the maids got ready to furnish her room. Throughout the day, I noticed Melanie looked gloomy. When I was done supervising the maids, I walked into her room after knocking. She was lying on her bed with a novel in her hand.
"It's you." She said sitting up. "Yeah," I answered almost awkwardly. "Are you done with what you were busy with?" She asked. "yeah. You look down today." I said, trying to start up a conversation on what brought me to her room. "Oh, it's nothing." "We both know that's a lie. You once promised mom, you won't keep secrets, have you forgotten?" I asked calmly. "Oh please, mom. You can't cheat with that. Besides it's not a secret." She chuckled. "Now tell me 'cause I insist." "Well it's just that I don't seem to like that girl, Daisy or whatever her name is." She blurted out. Oh that's her problem. "We can do nothing about that dear. You should learn to love her. Starting tomorrow, she would be your sister.
Though I find everything that happened to be strange but there's nothing I can do about that." I explained to her, she breathed out heavily and I sighed as well. "I think I'll need to adapt to seeing her everyday now " she said and I nodded, patted her on the head, stood up and left her room. I've not been to the office today so I called my secretary. I had a lengthy discussion with her about some issues and then ended the call.
Melanie's POV
When Mom left my room, I dropped my book and thought about the new development. I've gotten myself a sister, a strange one at that. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to show her love. She's just a girl of five. She can't be harmful. I picked up my phone, listened to some music and I slept off. By the time I woke up, it was past dinner time so I just made my trip to the fridge and took an apple. I ate and drank some water. I was walking back to my room when I noticed the furnished room. It was just right opposite mine. I opened the door with the intention of having a look round the room and I was 'wowed'.
I mean the room looked beautiful. Everything in there was pink unlike mine that was white throughout. The room looked more like a baby's room. I walked in fully and touched some play toys and other things that were inside. I walked ahead to the closet, opened it and was surprised at the nice clothes that were neatly arranged. In a short while, Mom had all these delivered. She's awesome. I had another good look round the room and I exited the room. I went back to my room, had my normal routine of reading before I slept off again.
I woke up the next morning and had my hygiene. I wore my dressing robe before I stepped out my room. I entered Mom's room after knocking on the door and she wasn't there. I closed the door and I walked down the stairs. I called Juliet, one of our maids and asked her whether or not she had seen Mom and she told me she (Mom) left the house earlier.
Realization dawned on me, I'm gonna be a sister to a strange girl starting today. Probably Mom went to the orphanage home to get her. I turned to go back to my room after I ordered that my meal should be brought to my room. As I was about to get on the stairs, the door to the living room went wide open and I looked back to see Mom and the 'strange girl'.
"Finally she's here." I muttered under my breath. I turned back fully and put on a fake smile.
"Good morning Mom." I greeted. "Same dear. How was your night?" She asked. "It was great." I replied, still with the fake smile. My eyes darted to the girl and she was smiling genuinely. Instantly, the little hatred I've got for her seems to fade away gradually and I returned her smile with a genuine one as well. 'Hey' I greeted. 'hi' she waved. "how are you and how was your night?" "Fine" she said. "Mom, I'll be heading back to my room." I told her and was planning to leave when she called me back. "I hope you know that her room is opposite yours?" She started.
"So?" My subconscious asked. "Take her to her room and be good to her. I'm off to work." She completed. I stared at the girl for a while and I later stretched forth my hands. She walked up to me and I led her to the room. "I'll ask a maid to give you a bath." I said awkwardly. She nodded and I left her room. I entered mine and moved to the house intercom, informed one of the maids to come upstairs and give the girl a bath.
An hour later, I heard a knock on my door and I muttered a 'come in' that was loud enough for the person to hear. The door made a shrieking sound and someone popped in her head and it turned out to be the same girl. I sighed and dropped my phone. "Hello" she smiled awkwardly. "Yes? What do you want?" I asked trying to sound polite. "Just feeling bored and decided to come here." She stated while pulling at her fingers. Who knew she could be this shy after I openly confessed my hatred to her?
"Okay, come closer and have a seat." I said, tapping my bed gently. She came closer and sat beside me. I dropped my phone and tried to pay attention to her. At least I have to stay closer to her to know the kind of person she is. She's now my sister after all.
"So I was thinking th-th-that...." She stopped talking and I could notice she was nervous. "Okay, you dont have to be scared. I don't bite." I announced. "Well do you still hate me?" She blurted out suddenly after a moment of silence. Do I still hate her? I asked myself. I'm not sure what my answer is but I don't need to hate her anymore. She's a relative now. There must be a mutual understanding and relationship between us.
"I'm not sure" I said truthfully. "I don't see a reason or cause for you to hate me in the first place" she said looking away. I used my hand to hold her chin and I turned her to face me. "You don't need to worry. We'll be close once I get over that." I told her and she nodded. "Now I've got a lot to do. Why don't you make yourself comfortable? You're now one of us so you can do me the favor of leaving my room and find something to do.
Probably watch TV...there are some programmes for kids your age." I suggested. She flashed me a loving smile and left the room. I laid my back on the back rest and drifted to thoughts ranging from the manner in which I must behave now that I have a sister to care for, down to the fact that I've got to prepare for school. Resumption is near!!!.

Melanie's POV"Darling! Darling!! Come out. You're running late." I heard Mom's voice as I quickly slip on my wristwatch. I bent down and tied my shoelace. I rushed to the door and then looked back to ensure that I dropped nothing. I opened the door after my confirmation and rushed down the stairs.A maid was already at the end of the stairs with my lunch bag. She handed it over and I muttered a 'thank you' which she reciprocated with a smile. I walked briskly to the fridge and took an apple which I'd have for breakfast. I stepped into the living room to see Mom pacing up and down, waiting for me and Daisy was with her as well. I smiled at her and walked up to them."Good morning" I greeted. "Good morning to you too sis", she replied. Just for you to know, I've actually come to love Daisy. She's fun to be with and acts in a caring manner. Anyone who sees us would fail in recognizing that we've just known each other for some days now. The last
"I'm home" I announced as I walked towards the sitting room. A maid walked up to me and collected my school bag. I mouthed a 'thank you' to her and walked briskly away from her. "Daisy", I called but got no response. I walked up the stairs and opened her room's door.I entered the room and found her sleeping peacefully on her bed. I stared at her for some minutes and decided not to disturb her nap. I left her room quietly and entered mine which, of course, was opposite hers. I saw my backpack on the reading table. It's a good thing the maid didn't touch any other thing. They're just the way I left them.School was fun with my two awesome friends and Nancy never crossed my path till we left school today. I dropped my school uniform as I put on my bathrobe. I entered the bathroom, prepared the bathtub and entered it after removing my robe and undergarments. I immersed myself in the cold water and then closed my eyes to
Melanie's POVIt's the 'meet and greet' day already. Janet and I got ready to go and Steve volunteered to accompany us. He said he was not busy and his dad gave his consent. Mom did not forget to warn us to be safe since Steve was to be the driver. We set out and soon enough we got to the venue. Thank goodness we left our house as early as 4 o'clock, we found seats due to the time we arrived. Few minutes later, the stadium was filled. At exactly 5 o'clock, Suzy's van entered the stadium. People screamed at the sight. When the van stopped, she stepped out of the van in all elegance. She looked like a princess, she wore a pink full flair dress with stilettos. A necklace was lying beautifully on her neck and a tiara was on her head. Her hair was packed in a messy like bun. She waved at the people, looked round and was about to go on stage when she looked sideways and our eyes met. I went numb for a second. "She's staring at me". I muttered under my breath. I waved at her
Melanie's POVSteve dropped us at our homes. We went to Janet's first, then mine and Steve went back to his house in his car. The car was actually his sixteenth year birthday gift. Yeah, right...Steve was almost a year older than I am.He's sixteen and I am fifteen but I still consider him to be my age mate because he was only older with few months. But before Steve left, I tried to persuade him to tell me what was wrong with him."Steve, you know you can always trust me with your worries. We share secrets, remember? But you're keeping this one. What's the matter?" I asked him. He rested his back against the car and I stood in front of him raising my head to look at him 'cause he was taller than me."It's nothing, Melanie. I'm fine"."Steve!!!" I whined. He placed his hands on my shoulders."Melanie, I know you care about me but I'm fine " he sai
Melanie's POV"Good morning" I greeted as I sat down beside my friends. "Good morning" Steve and Janet answered. I was almost late for class today. Just as I sat down, the English teacher entered. The tall, slender and well-built man, standing in front of the class, who could easily pass for an athlete, surveyed the class with his eyes.I pretty much guessed he's going to give us test and he did. He looked round, ensuring none of the students was missing before he issued out his questions.Few minutes later, he asked us to submit the answers to his questions. As expected, some students started murmuring, some happily submitted while some did not even show any emotions. Their faces never betrayed their emotions during tests and examinations and I could say I'm one of the last group. If the questions were tough, my facial expression won't portray anything likewise if it's the other way round, you still won
Steve's POV"I'm home" I announced to whoever was home. Just as I was about to go upstairs to my room, a maid appeared from a corner. "Welcome, sir" she greeted and I nodded. I seem to have gotten used to the fact that they all call me 'sir'. Most especially Vivian, the housemaid, who was just two years older than me.I've always tried to convince her not to call me 'sir' but I guess she's just following her job ethics....to respect her bosses."Where's Jessie?" I asked her. "She's not back yet." "Alright. You can go back to do your work." I dismissed her and walked on to my room. I entered my room after unlocking the room door. Yeah, right...I know you guys might be wondering why I had to lock my room in my father's house.Well Mom had strictly warned everyone, including the maid, Vivian and other male workers we have, to always lock the room doors to prevent future conflicts of intr
Melanie's POV"Mom, I'm leaving" I announced as i stepped out of the house. I'm going to school on my own today, Mom was not chanced to take me to school today. She looked a little bit down and it's unlike her so I suggested I'll be on my way to school myself. I strolled out of the building happily and was walking towards the gate when Daisy's voice halted me.."Melanie, wait" she called out and I turned back to face her. She breathed heavily for some moment when she finally got to the place I was standing at."What's the matter Daisy? Why did you stop me?" I asked with concern. It's unlike her as well. She was always eager to see me leave for school because according to her she'd have the building all to herself and would be able to move round the garden all she want. The excuses I considered childish."Melanie" she called as she held unto my hand nervously. I crouched to her h
Suzy's POVMy eyes widened as I stared at the headline which was displaying on the screen. Many students were being wheeled into waiting ambulances. This is tragedic to me even though none had been confirmed dead. They were all injured. My mind surprisingly drifted off to the fact that I had actually met with some students during my meet and greet and was drawn towards three students amidst them.Yeah....a boy and two girls. One of the girls was named ...what's the name again.... yeah... Melanie. I gasped in shock. What if she had been involved in the accident? What if she was one of the brutally injured victims? What if...?"Stop all these 'what ifs'. My subconscious alarmed me. I picked up my phone and dailed George's number. He picked up at the third ring."George, I need your help. Can you come over, please?" I pleaded."Suzy, you know I'm quite busy. You can't just call me anytime. We are trying to organize a concert
EPILOGUE<<MELANIE>>I breathed a heavy sigh of relief as I handed over the mic to Kate, who hurriedly passed me a bottle of water.“Thank you,” I muttered. I opened the bottle and drank from it.“You are all sweaty!” Kate frowned. “But you were definitely great back there.” She squeaked happily. I shook my head negatively with a smile on my face. Dramatic Kate!“She’s definitely not as open to me as she is to you.” I turned when I heard that voice.“Suzy!” I squealed as I ran to her. Her arms were wide open already, calling me for an embrace.“Girl, you were great out there on that stage.” She kissed my cheeks. “I almost couldn’t recognize you.” I laughed at her flattering. “All thanks to you and the staff.” She smiled. “And where’s John?” I asked as I looked behind her to see if he was with her.“He didn’t…” Suzy tried to answer.“Over here, sweetheart.” I saw John waved at me. “Hey,” I moved away from Suzy to meet
I fell on my knees as I struggled to breathe. I truly felt life getting drained out of me. I couldn’t breathe and I could see my hands getting dark. It all felt as though something was eating me up.I glanced at Melanie and she had that proud look on her face that showed how pleased she was to have deceived me. I was a complete fool to think she had regained her senses. The dark tissue was spreading on and on from my palms to my arms. Melanie wasn’t herself anymore and that was a sure fact. But regardless of any other thing, this might be the last time I see my best friend, the Melanie I love and not the one in front of me.With this in mind, despite the evil glare she had on her face and my lack of strength, I summoned every last bit of the strength in me. I held her hands in mine. They felt extremely hot.She arched her brows at me.“I can see you’re a strong one.” She smirked. “You…” I cut her off.“I love you.”She instantly froze. For a moment,
72Melanie’s POV“Stab yourself.”She smirked.“Wh- what?” I stuttered in disbelief.“That’s the only way.” She shrugged. “You have to spill blood.”I scoffed.“Are you kidding me right now?”“No,” she smiled. “Are you ready to cross that boundary?”“Why in the world would she need to stab herself?” Steve frowned.“That’s the only thing that can stop this. You need no further explanation. Are you willing to do it to save your people?” she stared intently at me. “Both the humans and the supernatural.”I sighed as I ran my fingers through my hair. I definitely didn’t expect this. To save everyone completely, I’d make the sacrifice.I heard loud screams which made me turn abruptly. I watched wide-eyed as buildings came crashing down. People began to run out of their houses. However, before they could go far, most of them got hit by flying bricks. I glanced at the source of the turmoil. The dragon was con
Melanie’s POVI pulled up the knife and steadied myself to stand to my feet. Releasing a shaky breath, I began to walk over to the rest of the family as I kept the knife safe in my pocket.Sage was gone. Everyone has been set free from his evil clutches and his destructive ambitions.Walking absentmindedly, I almost lost my balance when I stumbled on something. I averted my gaze from the space and glanced at what made me stumbled. I realized it was Janet’s lifeless body. The tears I never knew I had pent-up flooded my face as I stared at the lifeless body of the girl I called my friend. I sobbed uncontrollably as I fell to her side. Lifting up her cold hands, I pulled her into an embrace. She might have betrayed me but she was once my friend. And she will ever be!“I’m sorry,” I whispered. My body trembled slightly as the feelings I bottled up all burst out with my tears. No matter wha
Melanie's POV"Don't you dare!" I growled when I saw Clara's high hand. In her hand was the supposed sacred knife - that, I recognized.Clara turned to me with surprise evident on her face. But sad for her, 'cause as soon as she turned, she was struck by an electrifying ray that emitted from my hands. She was sent flying across the room. She let out a loud scream when her back came in contact with the furnitures. Crashing sounds filled the atmosphere.I moved closer to her with the unending ray and she got pinned to the tiled floor. I didn't want her to stand up.When I was sure she was trapped and unable to move, I hurriedly traipsed over to Daisy. I pulled her up from the floor and shook her without much force."Daisy?"Her eyes opened slightly before they went close. Her body went cold immediately. I instantly became furious.Clara should pay for this. I don't care if I don't get to kno
Megan's POV"Oh my God! Melanie?" I called in surprise. My eyes watered as they got themselves fixed on my dear daughter.I was so excited to see her here. Even though I didn't know when she got discharged and how she got here, I was still very much glad she was right here in front of my eyes. But before we could go about the mother daughter reunion, Sage spoke up."Well... well... well," he began, saying those words in a music like format. "Look who we have here. I didn't think you'd be up after all we got them to do to you." He stated. No wonder! I kind of knew Sage was the mastermind of all that happened with Melanie. But it was hard to ascertain that fact since he got his job done without any trace.Melanie walked away from me as I teleported over to the rest of my team. The look on Steve's face showed he couldn't be more glad."Nice to finally meet you again," Melanie greeted Sage scornfully. She folded her
Megan's POV"It's a recall spell if you don't know." I heard Morgana's voice.Right there and then, she also came into the picture, alongside Morgan and the army. I smiled. This turned out to be a perfect plan after all."Now, it's a thousand against one." Morgan said with a slight smile.Sage moved back a bit, creating enough space between us all."How come I never knew?" He wondered."That's cause it wasn't an immediate thing. The spell was meant to take time before it takes its effect ... to avoid suspicion." Morgana explained with a sad smile on her face.I wondered why she looked sad despite the smile. Her smile didn't reach her eyes."Who did this?" Sage asked with squinted eyes. "Cause I'm sure this isn't a thing back at the kingdom. This is related to black magic." He frowned."Yeah, it isn't a thing in our world since it's a spell." Morgana shrugged. "But someone went extra miles to pr
Megan's POVI stood at the centre of the city with Steve, Sage and his captives. Sage's eyes never left mine while he waited patiently for me to make my decision.Something kept telling me not to surrender. It kept trying to make me see enough reasons, as to why I needed not go surrender. One reason that kept on hammering was the fact that Sage could actually make me surrender and still not release his captives. One of the many reasons that left me strong-headed was how Sage was my culprit, who I needed to bring to book. If I surrender to him without fighting back, all our efforts from the onset would be a total waste of time and manpower."You're taking much time to decide, Megan." He complained. One thing about him that I've noticed is he always call my name, at any slight opportunity he gets.I ignored him and turned to Steve."What does she mean to you?" I questioned. He doesn't need any
Megan's POVI coughed slightly from the smoke that filled the atmosphere. Everywhere was clouded with smoke and I wondered how much damage Sage has caused to the whole city.I trod along the road carefully, squinting my eyes to see if there was any other person around. Following Sage landed us here and I haven't seen him. The smoke wasn't helping as well. I ensured I held on to Steve carefully. As we continued to move forward, the atmosphere suddenly became clearer. I almost sighed in relief but was caught off guard when an arrow flew my way. Reflexively, I dodged the arrow. My eyes darted towards the direction it came from. I wasn't surprised to see Sage but what surprised me was the army that stood in lines right behind him."This is going to be bloody." I heard Steve mutter behind me."We'll take care of this. Don't be scared." I told him, without turning to look at him. My eyes was fixed on Sage and his army.&nb
