Hyper-focused on Chadwick, I paid more attention to the cues, wanting to better understand what was going on.

Something inside me knew that he was attacked by werewolves, and the thought alone filled me with panic and I wondered what connection Chadwick had with werewolves.

"This looks serious," I leaned forward and put my hand up to push a lock of hair off his face. Hastily, he drew my hand away and snuggled his arms around my waist.

"Chadwick, what happened to you?"

"Just as I expected," he forced a smile and tried to downplay the situation. "It's nothing, I swear, just a little accident. Banged my head, is all."

Fatigue settled in pockets under his eyes, and he looked like he needed hours of long, uninterrupted sleep.

"I'm not entirely convinced, but I'll let it go for now. You need to get that checked once we're home, okay?"

"Sure, Doc," he smiled with a grin and a longing look, then moved closer.

"I fucking missed you so much. I can't wait for us to be alone."
