We stayed downstairs in the living room. Carmen was lounging back on the couch, clearly at ease, and laughing heartily.

"Oh my, I am so excited to see him. I guess Ken is providing me with the answer to my prayer of never having to deal with douchebags throughout my adult life."

Even a blind person could tell that Ken was not into her, so I did not want to be the one to take away her happiness. And even if he was, perhaps he was getting to know her.

"You know, sometimes it's better to let things unfold naturally," I said as casually as I could manage. I didn't want to dim the positive shimmer in the shadow of her eyes.

"What do you mean?" she chuckled. "I just wanna spend time with him. Maybe he's just running late. I mean, I'm going to have to get used to being a multimillionaire's girlfriend. The money must be made."

I sat upright opposite her, giving her a small nod. "Right, but you don't want to seem too eager. Let him appreciate the chase."
