Chapter four.

Cana pov.

Immediately I entered the car, my eyes roamed around the car for a while before it landed on him. Only to find out that he was staring at me.

“Are you okay?” He asked with a soft tone.

“Well, I was rejected on my wedding day, but I am over it now and I am fine,” I said.

A smile shadowed his lips; he stretched forth his hands. “Lycan Zane,” he introduced.

I took his hands with a smile. I already knew his name. He was a lycan. No wonder Alpha Alex always made sure he gave him the best treatment possible.

Lycans were also considered rulers of a pack, but they were higher than. Alphas. He started the car and started driving in a comfortable silence.

“How long did they banish you?” He asked, suddenly breaking the silence.

“Three years”

He nodded and fixed his attention on the car again. ain “Do you miss home? I mean, your friends or guardians. I could talk to Alex to take you back,” he offered.

On a normal no note, I would have taken that offer but right now, no. The only friend I had was Mai, and I am sure I was a burden to her because she always had to protect me.

Derek, my guardian, was already fed up with me. He never said it but I knew deep down within me. He was usually mocked for having a weak wolf.

One day, he quarreled with his best friend and his best friend and outrightly called me a human. “You call that weakling your daughter? She’s a curse at our park. I would rather father a human being than father her”

I expected Derek to rebuke him and call him names or kick him out. Anything to show that he was by my side instead, he said.

“Well, she is my brother’s child. If she was someone else, I would have gotten rid of her a long time ago. It would free me from this mockery”

After I heard him, I went to my room to cry silently. Using my pillow to cover my mouth to avoid any form of noise.

“Cana! Cana!” A voice called out, because it sounded very far and distant to my ears.

Zane gave me a little tap on my leg, making me flinch. “I have been calling you,” he said.

I nodded and sat up, trying to remember our last conversation before my flashback. “Oh, that. Don’t bother yourself. I have decided to start afresh,” I said with a tight smile.

He observed my face for a while before he focused back on the road. Sooner than later, sleep helped me.

A light tap on my cheek woke me up, only to find out that we had gotten to the Orleans park.

“We have arrived here. Please follow me” he said. He already has my bags in his other hand.

I came out of the car but halted on my steps when I saw the sight before me. This palace was bigger than the other one back home.

I can’t even call this a palace. I would call it a castle made up of little magnificent luxurious buildings. About eight of them.

The main one stood in the center with four tall pillars at the front to support it. It had a water fountain in the middle. Beautifully peacocks and other birds roamed around adding beauty to the place.

Maids and guards wearing uniforms were working around doing their normal activities. I smiled at one of them. I was sure I would soon become a maid like them.

“Cana!” Zane called out again. He stood a few steps away from me. I quickly walked towards him.

“It seems you have a habit of always zoning out,” he said with a tight smile.

I smiled back. “Forgive me, Lycan,” I said.

He nodded with a smile, his blue eyes staring at me. “Lycan,” he murmured as if I had done something wrong. “I never knew we were back to formalities’ ‘ he said in a disappointed tone as he walked towards the palace.

I followed him trying to keep up with his fast pace. His muscles tightened as he walked without sparing me a glance.

What have I done this time? I asked myself. Immediately we got inside he beckoned on one of the maids. “Take her to my room.” He ordered me to give my bags to the maid.

I  furrowed my eyebrows. Why was he sending me to his room? I opened my mouth to object to his decision but he had already walked away.

She took me to his room and gave me a chair to wait for him. Anytime I tried starting a conversion she would give me a direct answer. Like yes or no.

He came an hour later, panting heavily. His white shirt was soaked with sweat thereby revealing his nipples and his abs.

My heartbeat fastened as warmth rushed through my body. I turned around immediately as my cheeks reddened. Gosh! I was not meant to be having such thoughts.

He walked straight into an inner room before I heard the shower turn on. I think that was his dressing room. He came back dressed in a black turtleneck long-sleeve shirt and grey sweatpants.

He took a chair before me and cleared his throat. “From now henceforth, you will be calling me by my name, Zane. Not,” he ordered sternly.

“But-” I began, he held his hands in the air.

“No, but. You will call me Zane” he ordered his voice stern with anger.

“Okay Zane” I bowed my head. Why did he sound angry? He was a Lucan after all.

He walked towards me, eating the space between us. I step backward. What was he doing?

“Cana” he called, I remained in my position afraid of what would happen if I raced my head. My body seemed to be reacting differently around him even more intensely than when I was around Alex.

“Look at me,” he ordered. He used his two middle fingers to raise my chin, making me look at him.

I struggled to close my eyes. He was too close, his warmth caressing my body. His eyes scanned my face before it landed on my lips.

I nervously bit my lips, and his eyes darkened the more. He leaned closer as his thumb caressed my lips.

Anticipation trickled down my spine, I could feel warmth down my thigh.

Bang! The door opened revealing a white-haired man, he looked like someone who was in his late sixties. I immediately jumped backward in his presence.

His face was masked with a frown as he glared at Zane.

“What is she doing here?” He asked him with a glare.

Zane stood beside me “I brought her here, Uncle” he said.

I tilted my head. Uncle? So he was Zane’s uncle.

“You and I know that she can’t be here. Take her back to her park and get ready. Your betrothed is here to see you” he announced.

I looked at Zane and then at his uncle. Why was he so bent on making me go? But the pain of rejection could not be compared to the pain of betrayal I felt when I discovered he was betrothed.
