Vivian concluded that if her husband wasn’t dead, she might be putting him in a more precarious situation by exposing herself to danger. She may be kidnapped and used to catch him if he was hiding somewhere.
It was common sense to her that she held no value to Zander, but she was still his wife-in-paper. And based on the days they had spent together three years ago, he seemed to be a good man.
Zander would surely think she was his responsibility and would try to get her back. Of course, Vivian did not want to be harmed in any way either, so she had to go into hiding.
If there was something she hated in this world, it would be pain. She had run away from pain all her life and she had succeeded. She did not want to experience it now.
Just imagining what kind of torture her husband’s enemies might have prepared for her sent her packing her bags quickly.
Opening her wardrobe, she was relieved that she still had a lot of new clothes that she had never used before. It would be useful in hiding herself the following days. She knew full well that she could not go out wearing clothes she had used before.
If the enemy was someone who could hurt a multibillionaire like Zander, they were surely powerful. She was sure it was easy for them to track her location. Wearing clothes she had worn before was like exposing herself and willingly getting kidnapped.
Gladly, Vivian often bought clothes as souvenirs on her travels, so she had a lot of them in stock. She chose the cheapest and normal-looking ones so she would not stand out. She only prepared two pairs of elegant-looking ones just in case she needed them.
Vivian contacted her business managers and informed them that she would be traveling for a while. Thus, they had to take care of the company as usual and send their reports as usual.
Except, they were not allowed to call her and they should not expect a call from her either. She would only respond via mail once she had the time.
Vivian reasoned that she would be too busy and thus, in case of problems, they had to solve them themselves and send her a detailed report of what happened.
It could take several days or more for the matter about her husband to be settled. Vivian was not sure when she could access her emails again, but it was better than not being in contact with her managers at all. She entrusted checking her businesses to her personal assistant.
Thankfully, she had hired reliable people. Her personal secretary, named Hotaru Rei Xi, was a very reliable person.
Hotaru was half Chinese half Japanese. Vivian met her several years ago and hired her. Hotaru had shown a strong work ethic and proved to be extremely capable, so Vivian never let go of her.
“It seems you will not be around for more than a month this time. If I recall it right, this would be the first time right Ms. Chen?” Hotaru verified.
“Yes. I have things I need to do after I go on tour, so it might be more than a month before I can come back or contact you,” Vivian explained.
“I understand. I will do my best to take care of your business while you are away.”
“Thank you, Rei-chan. I’m really glad that I met you that day several years ago. If not for you, I couldn’t have a leave for a long time like this.”
“It was I who was most grateful, Ms. Chen. I feel honored that you trust me so much,” Hotaru replied, and Vivian almost laughed at how the latter sounded like a butler.
She could almost see Hotaru as a butler who was bowing her head to her as she said those words. But that’s if only Hotaru was a male. She was a girl, so she would be a maid if they were in a different setting. Hotaru did almost always dress up as a male though.
“Please stay safe in your travels, Ms. Chen.”
“Yes, of course. But you do know what to do with my assets if something happens to me, right?”
Vivian wanted to be sure that her assets would be properly dealt with in case she suddenly died on her trips, so she had already contacted lawyers before and had authorized Hotaru to take care of it.
“By any chance, you are not going somewhere dangerous, right?” Hotaru sounded anxious.
“You worry too much. I’m not going to a war-torn country or anything.”
But Vivian could not deny that she might be in danger. She knew Hotaru had become attached to her after years of working for her, so she understood her worries. Hotaru was now dear to her as well.
“Ms. Chen, if you are going somewhere dangerous, please take me with you. I can work as your personal guard. I have the ability. I will protect you with my life.”
“Calm down, Rei-chan. What would I do if I didn’t have you to take care of everything?”
Vivian was puzzled at Hotaru’s sudden panic. Hotaru was usually calm and calculated. This was the first time she sounded so alarmed that she even volunteered to go with her.
“Ms. Chen, I swear I can do both works at the same time. Please let me come with you,” Hotaru pleaded.
“You have nothing to worry about, Rei-chan. I’m only going for a vacation after my travels. I hadn’t had the time to rest for some time, so I thought that I would take this opportunity to lie low.”
“Is that so? You’re truly not going anywhere dangerous?”
“I’m not. I think there’s nothing so dangerous about where I am heading. I might even be bored at times when my work is done. But the signal might be a problem, so I could only contact you when I could go to somewhere with proper connectivity.”
“It sounds like an isolated island or mountain,” Hotaru was still suspicious.
“Haha. Not really. But as long as you are here taking care of my work for me, I have nothing to worry about. So you don’t have to overthink things. Just do your job and I will have a better time. Alright?”
“Understood. In case of emergencies, please contact me immediately. I will do my best to help,” Hotaru promised.
“Yes. Thank you.”
Vivian smiled. It made her happy that Hotaru was worried about her. However, she would rather not involve other people with her problems concerning her husband. If a life was to be ruined, hers was enough. She did not have to drag people into it.
With Hotaru in charge of all her business ventures, Vivian was rest assured that even if she was gone for a month or more, she would not suddenly go bankrupt.
Vivian cleared any sign that she was home that day. She activated the security features and locked up her house. She brought only clothes she had never worn before and even changed her perfume.
Even her wedding ring was not on her finger, not that she wore it all the time anyway. Only she and her husband knew that she was already married.
In truth, Vivian only wore their ring on their wedding day until she parted with her husband. It was because she did not know how to explain that she had married a man she had just met for two billion.
Well, no one could blame her. Only someone holy would say no to a deal like that. And she wasn’t one. Vivian was rather honest with her desires.
Knowing that using her car might expose her location, Vivian hailed a cab instead. She went to purchase necessary items from several shops, such as supplies, gloves, and even included hair dye, wigs, and contact lenses.
She wore disguises in every shop she went to and only used cash. Thankfully, she had hidden a stash of cash at her home for emergency purposes.
Vivian then went to a hotel owned by someone she knew. She had him book an entire floor for her but it was reserved under his name so that she would not be tracked.
It was kind of scary for Vivian to stay on an entire floor by herself, but it felt safer. If she did not have the entire floor booked, if one of her husband’s enemies discovered her whereabouts, they might book a room beside hers and she would not even know. Thus, she opted for the whole floor.
Other people might think she was just being paranoid. And she may indeed be being paranoid.
However, she had read too many novels about things regarding her current situation and it was better safe than sorry.
Instead of waiting for the danger to catch her by surprise, she would at least try to keep herself safe and survive what was to come.
She had always been the type that prepared in advance and took precautions when she thought it was necessary. She felt like this was one of those times she should apply it.
More importantly, she still had to confirm whether her husband was really dead or alive somewhere.
Surely, his parents would keep looking for him. And she prayed to all the gods she knew for his safety and that he would be found by trustworthy people before his enemy did.

Three days had passed and her husband was still declared missing. Vivian watched the news fervently in hopes of something positive. The forest fire had been put out a long time ago and the remains of the plane crash had been scrounged but no bodies were found. They only found burned pieces of clothing. Zander’s representative had turned visibly pale when the pieces of clothing were shown to him and they recognized a partially burnt necktie as the one that Zander wore when he departed with his entourage. The representative and the Li Group quickly responded, though that it didn’t mean that their young master was dead. Vivian sighed. Of course, the Li Group representative would deny it. If they admitted that their Chairman was dead, their investors may pull out, and there may be chaos about who would be the next to lead. There were already a lot of rumours about the Li Group being on alert all the time and its employees were tense and nervous about what changes might happen after th
“I couldn’t reach your phone. It was never switched on. You’re neither in any of your properties nor in the house that I had gifted you. And you have never been to any of your offices for the past three days,” her husband exclaimed, and Vivian looked away guiltily. Vivian recalled that she had shut down all her gadgets since she heard the news. She had contacted her workplace that she would be on travel and said that she may not be around for some time. “We were able to locate you just now when you sent me a message.” “I didn’t believe what happened to you was an accident so I tried to hide,” she reasoned like it was enough for an explanation. Zander’s entourage nodded in approval. She was right after all. It was indeed an assassination attempt. Her husband smiled and sat down on the couch closest to the bed without asking if he could, so Vivian sat down as well. He also gestured on his men to sit on the couch opposite them. Vivian noticed how everyone had one hand on something on their waist. She could guess it was their guns. She had actually felt the gun when her husband hugged her the first time. But now she felt a bit nervous as they were preparing for a shootout. ‘Well, who knows if his enemies already found us?’ That was quick though. Her husband and his cohorts had just been there for a few minutes. ‘Damn. Why the hell am I in this situation?! I shouldn’t have been tempted by the sum my dear husband offered me.’ This was the first time they met in three years and yet they might die the next moment without even having a proper talk. Vivian felt annoyed. ‘Was I meant to die a virgin?’ she recalled that she haven’t had her first time yet. Zander dared seducing her with his good looks and hot kisses when he offered her the deal in Hong Kong. And Vivian thought she would finally have an exciting life, but she ended up still alone in bed for three whole years despite being married. And worst yet,
“Not yet ready?” Danny looked at her suspiciously when she opened the door and closed it behind her again. “Oh, it’s fine now. But to be honest, my boyfriend is inside.” “Since when did you have a boyfriend?” Danny said with a deadpan look and she wanted to punch him. ‘Way to go, dear friend. You really know to poke where it hurts the most,’ she wanted to snarl at him. “You were single for the longest time,” Danny continued and she truly wanted to punch him in the gut, or the face. “I have a boyfriend!” Vivian said defensively. “I just hid it from everyone since I can’t reveal who he is,” she continued and Danny just raised an eyebrow. He clearly didn’t believe a word she said. “He’s a celebrity from another country,” she said in a lower voice but loud enough so the ones inside would hear. “Huh? Stop playing with me Vee. Are you having delusions now?” Danny looked at her and soundlessly mouthed: “Are you really alright? Are you sure no one is blackmailing you?” “Humph. That’s
“We both knew each other for so long, you know,” Vivian winked. Danny finally accepted the money. For the others not to hear, he mouthed at her, “Damn you, Vee.” Then he continued loudly, “When did you have the time to look for a man like this? You didn’t sell yourself for money did you?” ‘Exactly! You got it right, my dear friend,’ she wanted to say but didn’t. It’s not like she became a prostitute or anything. She just married a super-rich guy for his money. “Ara, that’s rude of you, baby. Just go on and enjoy yourself at your favorite spa. He was the one who found me, okay?” She could tell that Danny was envious. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever. He’s not beating you to death when you’re alone does he?” Danny asked as if the person in question wasn’t around. “Of course not. Do you see any bruises on me? You know I won’t remain in a relationship like that,” Vivian was incredulous. How could her friend think she would endure something like that when she hated pain? “Hey, do I look like I
Before Vivian could talk, she felt his lips on hers. Her eyes grew wide with surprise. Her husband was roughly kissing her such that her lips might end up bruised. Vivian tried pushing him away but he had cornered her against the wall. He pressed his body against hers so that she could not move an inch. His right hand was at the back of her head, so she could not avoid his kiss. ‘What the heck is wrong with this person?! This was the first time he did something like this.’ Sure they kissed before but never that way. Mostly, they only kissed for show. Their first kiss was when she signed the deal. The second was when they shot a video for their engagement and the third was at their wedding. The others were after their wedding night before he departed. But this was entirely different. It was a searing kiss out of anger and he was so violent. Not that he was truly hurting her or anything but it’s not the kind of kiss she wanted the first time they met after three years. He had neve
“What are you planning to do?” Vivian blinked. She had to prepare herself to escape if she had to. She could hide in the bathroom if he lost his cool again. “Oh, nothing much. Exactly what I just said,” Zander smiled. Vivian sighed in relief when she noticed that he was calm. It must have been just her imagination. She wouldn’t mind a few kiss marks here and there to serve as proof of his cohorts. So he didn’t need to scare her by looking like the devil. She thought he would eat her alive. “Jerk! Stop scaring me like that.” “Call me that one more time and you’ll be naked on that bed,” Zander pointed at her queen size bed and she instantly shut her mouth. He looked serious. No one must have ever called him a jerk before. ‘It was his fault for scaring me in the first place,’ Vivian thought but didn’t dare say it out loud. She shivered and bit her lips as he kissed, licked, and bit at both her arms, trailing kisses and bite marks. It felt weird and good at the same time. She wished
“Oh, okay. Sorry,” Vivian replied when Zander seemed to really dislike the mention of divorce. She just said it so to wake him up anyway and it was very effective. Further, she knew it was not possible. Vivian could not run away from Zander on her own unless he, himself, released her. She was not seriously thinking about divorce anyway. But if it ever comes to that, she could at least get a taste of him before it happens. Vivian sighed. His kisses and his touch didn’t disgust her. If she was being honest, his ministrations felt great. Just as it did the morning after their wedding night. It sent heat throughout her body and made her heart run wild. The fact that her husband was good-looking and well-built made things even more complicated. He had everything a girl could fall for. Zander hugged her and kissed her tenderly on the cheek this time. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the sensation of his warm body against hers. She was truly relieved he was alive. “I still need to fulfil
“Don’t talk to him,” her husband said and suddenly kissed her. “What are you doing?” Vivian gently pushed Zander away. First of all, she was still uncomfortable with suddenly getting kissed. Her heart was beating wildly but that doesn’t mean she welcomed it. She’s truly not used to a man’s ministrations. Rather, she’s entirely not used to having a man in her life at all. “Let’s turn this into a hotel as he said,” he glanced at his doctor who was busy eating chips. “No way! I’m not into PDA,” Vivian said and opened a snack as well. Her husband was simply unbelievable. She didn’t know he was a pervert who had such kind of tastes. She started eating and ignored Zander who was staring at her incredulously like she had just chosen a snack over her husband. The doctor meanwhile looked amused. Albert was focused on his driving like he could not hear a thing but he glanced at Zander through the rear-view mirror. “Want some?” Vivian offered her open snacks to her husband to drive away his
Vivian could sympathize. It had happened again last time, the morning after their wedding night. Zander had been fully aroused and ready to put it inside her, but his butler had suddenly called saying that they had to depart immediately. He was furious and frustrated but he left anyway since it was something urgent that personally needed him. “Beautiful Young Miss, the boss is wounded so he is prohibited from strenuous exercises,” the voice from the other side of the door said and Vivian’s eyes widened. “Wounded?!” she exclaimed. “Where? You said you were fine,” Vivian stared wildly at her husband. She recalled he even carried her a while ago. “Left-arm. It’s just a minor wound. No need to worry about it,” Zander admitted. “If it opens again I won’t treat it for you anymore,” the voice continued since Zander didn’t reply to him.
“Oh, okay. Sorry,” Vivian replied when Zander seemed to really dislike the mention of divorce. She just said it so to wake him up anyway and it was very effective.
