Taran's POV
I knew telling Willa she was mine before she turned 18 was a mistake, but it was the only way I could get rid of the rejection sting in her chest after what Natasha did.
I could smell her arousal when she woke up beside me, but there was little I could do to ease her flame besides a little teasing.
Thank God there was only a month to go.
I went and drowned myself in the pool after Kirsch took Willa to school. He has an office there and she would be safe. In the past, Kirsch would just use the office in the Alpha house to deal with the pack stuff when I was the Alpha, but it became too hard for him to work here alone after I turned rogue so he basically moved to the school's office.
[Taran.] Kirsch mindlinked me in the afternoon. I was a bit surprised because he was going to take Willa back soon.
[Yes?] I answered as I headed out of the pool, worrying it might be about Willa.
But it wasn't--
[Scarlett is at the door.
Taran's POV[Lair!] Cerberus jumped at me for control. He took her story as an attempt to take Willa away from him.[Clam down, Cerberus! It's just a story!] I closed my eyes shut, desperate as the feeling of the old Cerberus surfaced.I tried to remain calm in front of Scarlett: "The moon goddess pairs everyone with a mate. I'm sure even without a sane mind, the mad king--""Not everyone." Scarlett shook her head with suspicion written in her eyes, "The mad king was cursed by the moon goddess herself. Do you know why he would go for a kill?"I didn't want to know. I couldn't bear to hear more."He takes other's mate as his own. He would recognize a mate, and kill her real mate only to keep her to himself."My blood froze. As much as I didn't want to believe her, that possibility put real fear in me.She didn't know I was the mad king, or the fact that I claimed Willa as my mate -- she thought it was Kirsch. So she had no
Willa's POV It took us a couple of hours to finish the three tattoos. I was dying to go and check on Al, but Kirsch wouldn't let me leave, not even on the little breaks granny took. "The design is really pretty! I have only seen a few Runes myself, but of course, never one with real magic in it." Kirsch said as he took my hand to observe the Death spell. It took all my energy to not roll my eyes at his shoddy excuse to occupy us. Either he was afraid I was going to rape Al while granny was right downstairs, or he was really nervous about being with granny alone. Neither of those scenarios was NOT lame! "Where have you seen Runes before?" I challenged him, hoping he would let me go as soon as I could expose his lie. "In the museums." He grinned at me with an innocent smile. "It would be a mess if the world knew about magic." I squinted my eyes at him, upset that I couldn't really prove he was lying. "Runes are al
Kirsch's POVI had been trying to mind link Taran ever since he broke the mind link.No luck.He was furious at the possibility that he might be the one who hurt Willa five years ago. Taran was okay this afternoon when I mindlinked him. Something happened during his conversation with Scarlett.I really need to look into her."You knew he left, didn't you?!" Willa demanded in anger, getting more and more worried. I would too, knowing Taran had a suicidal tendency. But he said he needed an answer this time."There was an emergency and he needed to investigate." I tried to avoid mentioning Scarlett and the incident five years ago without directly lying.Willa squinted her eyes with suspicion, and I gulped in nervousness."What the hell IS the emergency that he's looking into that he can't even tell me?!" Willa pushed me away in frustration, "Can you all stop treating me like a kid and keeping everything from me?!""There ha
Willa's POVThough getting Cerberus's promise lit up my mood, it was hard for me to sleep that night. I was used to sleeping in the house with Al by my side.In fact, I had never slept alone in the Alpha house before, not since the first night where I was badly injured.I couldn't sleep not only because Al wasn't there, but also because of his sudden "investigation". Something was wrong. He was acting weird when I got home actually. When granny was with him, alone.[Granny.] I tried to mind link her, half expecting granny to be asleep. But she answered right away--[Are you okay?][I'm fine, lying in bed.] I showed her around in the moonlight. The moon was shining brightly, being two days away from a full moon.[What's wrong, little one?] Granny calmed down a little, asking. She was painting on a piece of parchment, making a spell.[Hmmm...why didn't you stay for dinner today?] I hesitated before I changed my question. A
Willa's POVWhy wasn't I even surprised that it was Rachel?Expecting a bully to "learn from their mistakes" is being stupid, because they might not even think they are at fault. What surprised me was the fact that she came alone instead of with her two huge twin wolves and her stupid smirk."I come to talk." Rachel shifted before she bared her neck at me. Her red hair was barely over her chest. She was actually on the sexy side."How many wolves do you have hiding around us?" I teased with a smirk. I couldn't feel any other wolf's presence, but I doubted she would really come alone."None. I'm not here to fight you." Rachel locked her eyes on me. She looked much maturer than before -- or at least, calmer than before."You didn't fight me last time either." I rolled my eyes before I turned to leave, "But I don't want to talk to you."All of a sudden, one of her twins came out of the bushes from behind me, naked. That was why I
Kirsch's POV "Sorry!" I shouted before I let go of Willa and shifted back to my wolf form. I should keep my distance from Willa, especially when Taran was with her now, but I was too nervous to remain calm when I realized I had been following a bait when Willa was Rachel. The scene of Willa laying on the ground with her face covered in blood had been haunting me ever since Rachel hurt her last time. "It's fine, but you really need to stop shifting in front of people!" Willa chuckled before she came forward and hugged me, "I have missed you!" She meant Rudy. Willa was very sensitive about nudity and I kept forgetting that. Though she had never shifted, wolfless ones are usually more or less used to seeing other wolves shift at least. Rudy purred as she rubbed her face on his shoulder, and it took all my self-control to not back away from her in panic. Taran helped a lot when he cleared the misunderstanding between me and Willa,
Kirsch's POV[Taran?] I glanced at Willa and hesitated before I tried to mind link him cautiously. Willa jerked up her head and stared at me with anticipation all of a sudden.Taran rejected it.Willa collapsed on my shoulder again, even more upset. Seeing her feeling low physically hurt me. I sniffed the air carefully, though faint, the smell was real. But why didn't Taran show up if he was nearby?[Willa, you would be okay to stay here alone for a while, right? I can go fetch some cloth before I come for you.] I found an excuse, trying to act as normal as possible.[Yeah, of course. You don't have to come and pick me up though, I'll get back later myself.] Willa sat straight, and the soft and warm touch of her body left me. I missed it, but I had to let her go.[I WILL come back, wait for me.] I left after I got a mild nod from Willa before I cut the mindlink with her.[Taran! Where are you?] I asked as I followed the faint s
Taran's POVKnowing about the truth, or, remembering the truth of five years ago was heavy, but it only reminded me how precious my life was now.My life used to be simple -- I knew I had a curse, and I was surviving only to wait for my death. Now it was full of mystery that I couldn't explain, but at the same time, I was living a life, with my brother and my mate...Assuming she was mine.Though I didn't want to consider the possibility of Scarlett's story, it took a toll on me. I couldn't help but wonder whether I was stealing Willa from her true mate.I came back because I was sure of one thing--I would never hurt Willa again -- Cerberus would never hurt Willa again."Did you miss me?" I managed a smile even though I was feeling a bit heavy when I approached Willa, but the bright grin lit on her face when she looked up and saw me cast away all the dark clouds in my heart--"Where did you go?!" Willa jumped into my arms, bur
