Maverick Peterson POV
Several Days Later
'She's up to something.'
I frowned as I agreed with Shadow. Willow had been acting strangely since she had met up with Diana. Of course, considering how we hadn't spent much time together outside the minimum, I wasn't sure how much of it was from the talk or just in general.
It was possible her current behavior was just the result of one of her moods. If that was the case, then I could just wait it out. Then she would hopefully return to normal.
That didn't get rid of my curiosity regarding the secret conversation they had. I wasn't sure what they talked about, but given the strange looks Jason was giving me afterward, it couldn't be anything good.
Willow Baker POVSeveral Minutes Earlier"Are you sure this is going to work?" I asked, as I was having second thoughts after hearing what she had to say.Diana nodded her head furiously. "Of course I'm positive. I'll distract Maverick, and you'll speak with Jason. If anyone asks, we'll just tell them I asked you to get something from my room while Jason is there. No one would suspect a thing."The plan seemed so simple, but at the same time I couldn't stop thinking about how it was going to all go wrong. When I had allowed her to come up with a plan, I had thought it would be more well thought out.If this was all she had, then we didn't have to wait so long to act on it. We could have done it the moment she had thought of it. If she had only thought of it recently, then I had nothing to say about it.Well, it was a little bit late for me to turn back now. If I told her no, she would insist on knowing why and wouldn't give up until I told her. Once I told her, we will end up arguing
Willow Baker POVAfter hearing what Jason had to say, all I could say was, "That's it?""What do you mean that's it? What were you expecting?" asked Jason as he looked affronted by my words.Well, for one thing, the list he gave me was incredibly short and useless. It boiled down to me apologizing for whatever it was I had done wrong, as I had purposely made it vague. I felt certain he wouldn't have been as willing to listen to me as his brother had if he knew exactly why I was trying to make amends. Then, after I apologized, I needed to provide a gift to show that I wanted to make amends. The problem was that he hadn't said what I should give. I knew what making amends was. What I wanted to know was what I should give to make amends."Don't you have any other bett
Willow Baker POV"Willow." I flinched at Maverick's voice. "I think we need to have a talk."Seeing his blank expression, I knew it was pointless to keep up this charade. It was probably best if we just got right to the point instead of prolonging this conversation. Standing up from my seat, I could see Deanna and Jason share worried glances with each other."Maverick," Jason began.Maverick shot him a look. "Not now."His cold tone silenced him, though Jason didn't look happy about it. Diana bristled as she finally let go of Maverick's waist. I had wondered how long she was going to hang off of him since it didn't affect him in the slightest.Knowing what she was planning, I quickly intervened and approached him. "Okay. Let's talk.""In private," he said, as his eyes scanned the room and darted between the people there.Diana was about to speak again, so I quickly asked, "Where do you want to talk?"Motioning with his head, he said, "Follow me."Before I could follow him, Diana clung
Maverick Peterson POVI released my grip on her shoulders. Seeing her wince, I felt guilt stab me in the gut. I hadn't meant to hurt her. This was only supposed to be a talk, but she was so frustrating. She was keeping secrets behind my back and pulling stunts like this. No, it was no excuse for what I did. If I tried to blame her for everything I did, I would be no better than the scum that populated Prerana. The reason she was acting this way was solely because of the environment she had been raised in. I had to treat her carefully.'Maybe we should get Winter to help us.''I haven't forgotten what she said last time.'Willow's inner wolf was an interesting one, to say the least. She was quite prot
Willow Baker POVI instinctively smiled in response to Maverick's. I wasn't sure how I was supposed to feel. I had thought of several ways this conversation would go. Not in my wildest dreams did I expect him to tell me that his parents, Sheila, and Rickey, might still be alive. The thought that he might be lying never occurred to me. All I could think about was how they were out there, in desperate need of assistance, while we were sitting back and doing nothing. No, that was wrong. I was the one who had been sitting back doing nothing while Maverick had been working hard to take care of everything. If I had been doing my job instead of letting Maverick do all the work, then we might have discovered this sooner.Who knows how long they had been suffering because of me. It's been days or even weeks
Willow Baker POVI let Maverick take the lead, following behind him as the knight led us to the parlor. The horrible feeling pooling in my stomach hadn't gone anyway, and the urge to run grew stronger.'Winter?''Everything's going to be fine. Don't worry about it. I'll handle it if Maverick doesn't.'Clinging to her reassurance, I watched anxiously as the knight announced our presence before the door to the parlor opened. We stepped through and spotted the guest sitting down.He wasn't someone familiar to me. Given his light red hair and light brown eyes, I should have at least been able to recognize him a little. It wasn't exactly a common combination.Well, it wa
Willow Baker POVNow that I thought about it, what were the chances this stranger would show up while Maverick and I discussed our families' disappearance?Of course he couldn't have known when to arrive to interrupt our conversation, but it made him more suspicious. If his master really wanted to warn Maverick, he had plenty of time to do so before now. He could have expressed his concerns the moment our marriage was announced. The fact that he waited until now was highly suspect. There had to be a reason why the man's master chose now to say something that he wasn't telling, and I was certain that Maverick thought the same."Then your master must understand that I won't take the words of a stranger over the words of my wife," said Maverick. My heart fluttered as
Willow Baker POV"Hold it right there," Diana suddenly said as she got in between me and Maverick. "What have the two of you been talking about?""It's none of your concern," Maverick said. She crossed her arms. "Of course it's my concern. She's my sister." At everyone's expression, she corrected herself, "Sister-in-law. It's the same thing. What matters is you taking her away to somewhere private and refusing to tell anyone what you've been talking about." She jabbed a finger in Maverick's direction. "What are you trying to hide?"I could feel a migraine forming, and I wanted to massage my head. After the scare with the stranger and dealing with the emotions I didn't know I had been bottling up from my previous life, I wasn't in the mood for any more conversations.
Hello everyone. I just want to thank all my readers, especially those who have been following until the end. It's been a long journey. In fact, I believe this book, from start to finish, took almost 7 months, which is a long time. Again, I'm grateful to have all of you. Now, onto what I intend to do next. I have several ideas, but currently I hope to start on Asa Peterson's story. It's going to be about Willow and Maverick's daughter, but with a twist.Instead of being a direct sequel to Luna's Revenge: Willow Baker's Marriage Request, it follows the first life after Willow dies and basically runs almost parallel with it. As such, there might be some spoilers, but it's not required to read both books. They're both standalones.I really hope to get this story off the ground. However, I do have other stories so we'll see how everything works out.Anyway, thank you all again for reaching the end with me. I hope that you all continue following me and have a great day.
Willow Baker POV A Year Later "Willow, are you ready?" Sheila asked as she, Maverick's mother, and Diana stepped into the room. As I stared at the woman in the mirror, I immediately said, "No." My arms shook as I said, "I really can't do this." "What's wrong?" she asked as she immediately rushed over to me. "I don't think I'm ready to get married," I said as I whirled around in my wedding dress. "Willow," Maverick's mother said as she took my hand. "You've already been part of the family for more than three years. We're only making sure you get the wedding you deserve." 'I can't believe I agreed to go along with this crazy idea. Why do we need to have a wedding when we're already husband and wife?' 'I don't have a clue either. You're the one who agreed to it when Maverick asked to marry you, and he even gave you a chance to back out.' I still had mixed feelings when I recalled that incident. It still boggled my mind that he had asked to marry me when we were already married, a
Willow Baker POV"Yes?" I squeaked.I mean, we were married, so I wasn't sure what he was talking about. However, instead of explaining himself, he smiled brightly at me. His smile blinded me and left me in a daze as he slipped the ring onto my finger.Feeling the metal on my finger, I quickly said, "Wait. What's going on?"His smile dropped as he said, "I proposed. Did you not want to marry me?""That's not what I meant," I said as I held both my hands up. "I mean, aren't we already married?""We are, but I want us to be properly married," he said as he stood up. "All we did was sign some papers and file them to formalize our marriage. I want us to have a wedding. It doesn't have to be big. It can just be us and our families or j
Willow Baker POVA Year LaterStaring up at the night sky, I smiled as I held Maverick's hand. I had used to be embarrassed about holding his hand, but now I found myself reaching out to him whenever I can."It's nice out," I said as we continued to walk through the garden. The only sounds were the sounds of the wind and whatever animals were out and about. Basking in the peaceful atmosphere, I still found it hard to believe a year had passed in the blink of an eye."It is," Maverick said with a smile, and he squeezed my hand."So, what is it you wanted to talk about?" I asked."What makes you think I brought you out here to have a talk?" he asked. "I could just want to spend
Willow Baker POVReaching out to the door, I opened it and was greeted by the sight of a gaunt Lesli. The putrid smell and poor condition nearly made me vomit as I covered my nose and mouth."Ah, Willow, you finally came. I was wondering when you would come," he said as he smiled at me. His smile fell when his eyes spotted Maverick right behind me. "Oh, you're here. I didn't ask for you.""I asked him to be here," I said as I held up my arm before Maverick could raise his voice.Lesli tilted his head to one side as he asked, "Why? Did you think I would do something to you?" When I didn't bother to give him a response, he raised his bandaged and chained arms up for us to see. "I can't exactly do anything to you right now.""I'm sure you'll find a way, but that's not
Willow Baker POVUnfortunately, the beautiful moment was ruined as a servant approached us. We stepped away from each other as Maverick frowned. They knew to leave us alone unless it was a serious matter."My apologies, your graces," the man said as he bowed. "The prisoner is acting up and demanding Willow's presence."There was only one person he could be referring to, but before I could say anything, Maverick said, "Willow will not be seeing him. I should have you punished for your insolence."The man quivered beneath Maverick's bloodlust. Asa squirmed at the sensation, but she didn't become upset like the last time she had been exposed to it. I wasn't sure whether I should be glad or upset.Reaching out to touch his shoulder, I said, "Maverick."
Willow Baker POVSeveral Days LaterLeaning back in my chair, I watched with a smile as Maverick played with Asa, who giggled loudly. For once, we were together not because someone had done something to make it happen, and I was quite happy about it.Maverick finally caught Asa, who laughed even harder when he raised her up into the air. She clapped her hands as they returned back to the table where I was sitting. Asa immediately reached out to me.Standing up, I took her from him, and we both settled down to enjoy the tea and snacks that had been left out. Asa tried to reach for the cookie I had, but I kept it out of arm's reach. She was far too young to be eating them.As I nibbled on the cookie while ignoring Asa's attempts to grab it out of
Willow Baker POVSeveral Hours Later'As you were saying.''I still say it isn't bad.'Of course, she would say that. She wasn't the one who had to endure all the stares as I sat next to Maverick. It was like being surrounded by a pack of hungry wolves, ready to pounce at any moment.Maverick scanned the room before standing. "Now that everyone is here, I believe there is something we need to seriously discuss." His face hardened as he said, "You all need to stop harassing us, especially Willow." Immediately, several people looked offended by his words, but he continued on, "This has gone on long enough.""Maverick, I believe you need to watch yo
Willow Baker POVA Few Weeks LaterAfter what had felt like centuries, I had finally kicked everyone out without being rude. I had thought that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, I had been wrong. I had been so very wrong. It seemed like a fire had been lit, causing the family to work even harder to ensure we were a proper couple. Well, at least the women were. The men had kept out of the whole exchange, and I wasn't sure how to feel about that.On one hand, it was better than having all of them gang up on me and Maverick. On the other hand, they weren't helping us and were choosing to stay on the sidelines. Rickey seemed to take particular glee at my suffering.'At least someone is enjoying themselves.'
