Willow Baker POVMy mind went blank. I had to have misheard. For a second, I thought he said that our families were in Higsnesia. That was crazy. I mean, we had suspicions about the place, but that would mean their lives were in danger.'Willow, you need to calm down.''Calm down? You're telling me to calm down? We just became enemies with the country that is holding our families hostage. Who knows what would happen to them now?'"Willow," said Mildred, as he literally shook me out of my thoughts. "They should be fine.""What makes you so sure about that?" I demanded. How could he possibly think that?I didn't know why Higsnesia kidnapped our families, but they must have had a reason to do it. More importantly, they had been in their care for months. They could have been tortured while they were being held prisoners.'Would they really do that though?''Everyone knows that those with angel blood hate those with demon blood.''You forgot Rickey has angel blood. Surely they wouldn't hur
Willow Baker POVMildred was silent. It was as if he didn't want to tell me, but there was no way I would accept that. He had already come this far to go behind Maverick's back to tell me all this. I wasn't going to let this go."What did Maverick say?" I repeated as I stared hard into his eyes."Are you sure you want to know?" he asked."Just tell me," I said."Well, he immediately said he wouldn't allow it without hearing me out afterwards. He actually cut me off, and every time I tried to bring it up, he would block me out," Mildred said as he waved his arms about. It took me a moment to understand what he was trying to say. From what it sounded like, Mildred had been communicating with Maverick through the bond. Mildred must have decided to come in person after being ignored so many times. However, that brought up an important question. "Does Maverick know you're here?" I asked."Nope," Maverick said. "If he is going to ignore me, I figure I might as well ignore him too and talk t
Willow Baker POVIt took some effort to convince my personal servants and Sir Kerry that everything was fine now and to wait outside. They kept glancing at Maverick and Mildred with dubious looks. I didn't blame them for not believing me.After the scene the two caused, it was easy to be doubtful of my words. However, none of them could listen in on the conversation even if I was willing to let them stay. They had to stay out and guard the door to prevent others from listening in.Of course, I kept Asa with me. With her clinging to me for support, there was no way I could hand her over. What happened earlier was obviously very traumatizing for her, so I needed to be there for her.I had almost kicked Maverick out too, so she could have time away from him. Being near him might be too much for her after what he did, but I had doubted he would leave willingly if Mildred stayed. He would have insisted on staying until Mildred left, and if Mildred had left, I hadn't been sure when we could
Willow Baker POVWhen Mildred didn't say more, I asked, "So what is your idea?""Why don't we spread the news that you will be inspecting the grand duchy?" suggested Mildred.I stared at him in disbelief. There was no way he could be seriously suggesting such a plan. It had to be a joke he was playing on the both of us again. When he saw we weren't falling for it, he would admit the real plan. However, as time passed, Mildred continued to simply smile and remain silent. He was taking a long time to admit it was a joke. It was almost as if he was actually serious about the plan he had suggested.'It might not be a joke.''That's ridiculous. Did you hear his plan?''I did. Unfortunately.'Turning to Maverick, I wanted to see what his reaction to all of this was, and I froze. He had a pained expression on his face, like he had swallowed something sour or he had smelled something rotten. Was Mildred really serious?"Come on now," said Mildred. "What's with those looks? I do think my plan
Willow Baker POVI stared at Mildred, unimpressed at his choice of words. After hearing the problem, all he had to say was that we were in a pickle. Rather than state the obvious, he should be helping us come up with a solution."This is exactly why we shouldn't go through with this plan," Maverick said."What happened to you going along with the plan?" asked Mildred."That was when I was certain you would still go through with it with or without my permission," said Maverick.Maverick was obviously jumping at the chance to block us from contacting Higsnesia. He had already made it clear that he didn't want me to have anything to do with Higsnesia, but we couldn't just let things end here."There has to be something else we can do," I said. "Don't either of you have a better idea?""I already gave you my suggestion," Mildred said as he held up his hands. On the other hand, Maverick was silent. I wasn't sure if it was because he didn't have a better idea, he wanted me to give up, or a
Willow Baker POV"It's our best chance at getting their attention," I argued.Maverick finched between his brows. Mildred was actually frowning. The sight of the latter actually shook me more than the former. I couldn't recall if he had ever been serious in our presence, or at least in mine."I won't allow you to go through with it," Maverick said."Then why don't you suggest something else?" I asked. "Mildred and I already brought forth an idea to the table.""Do you even understand the full extent of what would happen if you revealed your heritage to everyone?" Maverick asked."I do," I said as I stared into his eyes."I don't think you do," Maverick said as he stood up again. He walked over to me and bent down to loom over me. One of his arms rested over the back of the chair, while his hand rested against the table. I looked up at him, and our eyes met again."As soon as everyone knows about your heritage, people will demand that I divorce you and send you out of the grand duchy,
Maverick Peterson POVSeeing how Asa was hesitant to even touch me was a stab in the heart, but I couldn't blame her. It was my own fault for not being aware of her presence and being careful about letting out my bloodlust. It was already fortunate enough that she hadn't outright screamed bloody murder while being close to me, much less been willing to be held by me. I would have to think about ways to make it up to her for scaring her.Glancing away from Asa, I saw that Willow was anxiously watching us on the sidelines. She was likely making sure that Asa was comfortable with me and was ready to take her from me at the first sign of discomfort. The sight of her worrying over Asa made my blood boil as I recalled what we had just been talking about. I still found it hard to accept that Willow would come up with such a plan given how much she cared about Asa.In fact, I couldn't imagine her being able to come up with this plan all on her own. That wasn't to say she wasn't smart, but she
Willow Baker POVMany Weeks LaterAs I watched the servants run about trying to add the finishing touches throughout the castle, I found myself itching to do something. It had taken a long time to set up the preparations for today's event.Just thinking about what was going to happen had me pacing back and forth with Asa in my arms. My personal servants and Sir Kerry stood on the sidelines as I thought about all the things that could go wrong tonight."Your grace," one of my personal servants said as I snapped my head in her direction. She flinched at my reaction before saying, "It's almost time."While I didn't need the reminder, I appreciated it. After allowing one of them to take Asa from me, I was checked over again to make sure nothing was out of place. The dress I wore was something Maverick got specifically for today. It felt strange wearing a white dress, as it wasn't like I was getting married today. Also, white wasn't a color those with demon blood liked. Apparently, it was
Hello everyone. I just want to thank all my readers, especially those who have been following until the end. It's been a long journey. In fact, I believe this book, from start to finish, took almost 7 months, which is a long time. Again, I'm grateful to have all of you. Now, onto what I intend to do next. I have several ideas, but currently I hope to start on Asa Peterson's story. It's going to be about Willow and Maverick's daughter, but with a twist.Instead of being a direct sequel to Luna's Revenge: Willow Baker's Marriage Request, it follows the first life after Willow dies and basically runs almost parallel with it. As such, there might be some spoilers, but it's not required to read both books. They're both standalones.I really hope to get this story off the ground. However, I do have other stories so we'll see how everything works out.Anyway, thank you all again for reaching the end with me. I hope that you all continue following me and have a great day.
Willow Baker POV A Year Later "Willow, are you ready?" Sheila asked as she, Maverick's mother, and Diana stepped into the room. As I stared at the woman in the mirror, I immediately said, "No." My arms shook as I said, "I really can't do this." "What's wrong?" she asked as she immediately rushed over to me. "I don't think I'm ready to get married," I said as I whirled around in my wedding dress. "Willow," Maverick's mother said as she took my hand. "You've already been part of the family for more than three years. We're only making sure you get the wedding you deserve." 'I can't believe I agreed to go along with this crazy idea. Why do we need to have a wedding when we're already husband and wife?' 'I don't have a clue either. You're the one who agreed to it when Maverick asked to marry you, and he even gave you a chance to back out.' I still had mixed feelings when I recalled that incident. It still boggled my mind that he had asked to marry me when we were already married, a
Willow Baker POV"Yes?" I squeaked.I mean, we were married, so I wasn't sure what he was talking about. However, instead of explaining himself, he smiled brightly at me. His smile blinded me and left me in a daze as he slipped the ring onto my finger.Feeling the metal on my finger, I quickly said, "Wait. What's going on?"His smile dropped as he said, "I proposed. Did you not want to marry me?""That's not what I meant," I said as I held both my hands up. "I mean, aren't we already married?""We are, but I want us to be properly married," he said as he stood up. "All we did was sign some papers and file them to formalize our marriage. I want us to have a wedding. It doesn't have to be big. It can just be us and our families or j
Willow Baker POVA Year LaterStaring up at the night sky, I smiled as I held Maverick's hand. I had used to be embarrassed about holding his hand, but now I found myself reaching out to him whenever I can."It's nice out," I said as we continued to walk through the garden. The only sounds were the sounds of the wind and whatever animals were out and about. Basking in the peaceful atmosphere, I still found it hard to believe a year had passed in the blink of an eye."It is," Maverick said with a smile, and he squeezed my hand."So, what is it you wanted to talk about?" I asked."What makes you think I brought you out here to have a talk?" he asked. "I could just want to spend
Willow Baker POVReaching out to the door, I opened it and was greeted by the sight of a gaunt Lesli. The putrid smell and poor condition nearly made me vomit as I covered my nose and mouth."Ah, Willow, you finally came. I was wondering when you would come," he said as he smiled at me. His smile fell when his eyes spotted Maverick right behind me. "Oh, you're here. I didn't ask for you.""I asked him to be here," I said as I held up my arm before Maverick could raise his voice.Lesli tilted his head to one side as he asked, "Why? Did you think I would do something to you?" When I didn't bother to give him a response, he raised his bandaged and chained arms up for us to see. "I can't exactly do anything to you right now.""I'm sure you'll find a way, but that's not
Willow Baker POVUnfortunately, the beautiful moment was ruined as a servant approached us. We stepped away from each other as Maverick frowned. They knew to leave us alone unless it was a serious matter."My apologies, your graces," the man said as he bowed. "The prisoner is acting up and demanding Willow's presence."There was only one person he could be referring to, but before I could say anything, Maverick said, "Willow will not be seeing him. I should have you punished for your insolence."The man quivered beneath Maverick's bloodlust. Asa squirmed at the sensation, but she didn't become upset like the last time she had been exposed to it. I wasn't sure whether I should be glad or upset.Reaching out to touch his shoulder, I said, "Maverick."
Willow Baker POVSeveral Days LaterLeaning back in my chair, I watched with a smile as Maverick played with Asa, who giggled loudly. For once, we were together not because someone had done something to make it happen, and I was quite happy about it.Maverick finally caught Asa, who laughed even harder when he raised her up into the air. She clapped her hands as they returned back to the table where I was sitting. Asa immediately reached out to me.Standing up, I took her from him, and we both settled down to enjoy the tea and snacks that had been left out. Asa tried to reach for the cookie I had, but I kept it out of arm's reach. She was far too young to be eating them.As I nibbled on the cookie while ignoring Asa's attempts to grab it out of
Willow Baker POVSeveral Hours Later'As you were saying.''I still say it isn't bad.'Of course, she would say that. She wasn't the one who had to endure all the stares as I sat next to Maverick. It was like being surrounded by a pack of hungry wolves, ready to pounce at any moment.Maverick scanned the room before standing. "Now that everyone is here, I believe there is something we need to seriously discuss." His face hardened as he said, "You all need to stop harassing us, especially Willow." Immediately, several people looked offended by his words, but he continued on, "This has gone on long enough.""Maverick, I believe you need to watch yo
Willow Baker POVA Few Weeks LaterAfter what had felt like centuries, I had finally kicked everyone out without being rude. I had thought that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, I had been wrong. I had been so very wrong. It seemed like a fire had been lit, causing the family to work even harder to ensure we were a proper couple. Well, at least the women were. The men had kept out of the whole exchange, and I wasn't sure how to feel about that.On one hand, it was better than having all of them gang up on me and Maverick. On the other hand, they weren't helping us and were choosing to stay on the sidelines. Rickey seemed to take particular glee at my suffering.'At least someone is enjoying themselves.'
