Willow Baker POV
Several Days Later
'Do you think it's possible for people to change a lot?'
'What are you talking about?'
Even though I had considered those thoughts ridiculous, I found myself plagued with thoughts of Maverick and Mildred having similar personalities. It shouldn't be possible. No one could go from one extreme to the next.
Expecting Mildred to be originally serious like Maverick and change to become someone outrageous was something I couldn't imagine. It was like saying a full grown wolf was acting like a puppy.
The other scenario was even worse. There was no way Maverick could ever act like Mildred. Imagining such a serious and
Willow Baker POVSeveral Hours LaterThe sight of Maverick manhandling Mildred in my office was the last thing I expected when I came to check on the gifts. After Asa fell asleep, I saw this as an opportunity to check the gifts and left her in Sir Kerry's care.Since I didn't know what was in the boxes, I didn't want her touching any of them until I had inspected all of them. I would rather not risk her accidentally breaking something and cutting herself.A quick search of my room had shown no results, which only left my office, which was how we ended up in this situation. Instead of commenting on the sight in front of me, my eyes scanned the room for the gifts. In the corner, I saw that the gifts were stacked, with the majority unopened. One of
Willow Baker POVOf course, I had completely missed what they had said again, much to my embarrassment. I really needed to pay attention to my surroundings, especially since I had already asked them to repeat themselves.I wasn't sure if I could get away with asking them to repeat themselves for a second or, was it the third time? Luckily, Winter came to my rescue and actually told me what they said instead of remaining silent.'They were trying to apologize for using your office to have their 'discussion' and that they would clean up.'That didn't seem too outrageous. I wasn't sure why Maverick was apologizing because I didn't believe for a second that Mildred would. Maverick could use my office whenever he liked. It would still be nice to be asked or told about it before he used it, but I doubted he purposely used this room when tracking down Mildred. Mildred was probably the one who ran in here to get away from Maverick.'By the way, what do you mean by discussion? It's obvious the
Willow Baker POV"Fine," he said as he sighed like a maiden that he had rejected. "I guess I can't give little Asa that wolf pup I was raising."I stared at him, wondering just how badly his brain was damaged for him to think it was appropriate to give a baby a wolf. Even if it was a baby wolf, I couldn't see how it wouldn't end in disaster.'I'm more concerned with how he got his hands on a wolf pup and who thought it was a good idea to let him raise one.''Now I'm really afraid to know what he gifted us.'"If Asa wants one when she's older, then I'll let her have one," I said carefully.Mildred already did as he liked, so telling him that it was never going to hap
Willow Baker POVMaverick was out the door before I could say anything to him. I winced when the door slammed behind him, causing the wall to shake. Even the boxes rattled as some of the top ones looked ready to topple.Mildred whistled. "Wow. I didn't expect him to get that upset." I really felt horrible, and I was tempted to change my mind, but Mildred said, "So what did you want to talk about?" I stared at him, confused. "You obviously wanted to talk to me, so I just made that excuse to get him to leave."Had I been that obvious? Now I really felt bad. The only reason Mildred had shooed Maverick away was because he knew I wanted to talk to him in private and not because he actually had something important to say to me.'Enough blaming
Willow Baker POV"What's with that look?" asked Mildred. "Don't tell me you think I have malicious intentions towards you."'I told you that you need to hide your emotions better.''I thought I did. This is just like what happened earlier when he figured out I wanted to talk to him in private. Is he reading my mind with his magic?'"I'm not reading your mind," he said. His words did nothing to convince me that he wasn't reading my mind with magic. In fact, it did the opposite. I covered my head even though I knew it wouldn't do anything against his magic."Don't be like that," he said with a laugh. "Really. I'm not using magic to read your mind. I just happen to be
Maverick Peterson POV'Are you really that upset that she chose to stay and talk with Mildred?''No.''Then why are you acting like this?''I don't know what you're talking about.''You don't have to lie. We both know better.'I couldn't understand why she would be willing to speak with Mildred in private when she had done her best to annoy Willow at every turn. Everyone knew how uncomfortable she was with the unwanted guest.Despite my best attempts to keep her away, I couldn't keep Mildred from coming to the castle. She was keeping me up to date on the investigations, and it wasn't safe to share the information through letters or other methods. No matter how secure the method was, there was always a chance something would be leaked. The safest method was for the two of them to meet and discuss the results, even if it meant letting Mildred have access to Willow. There was no way Willow could be interested in Mildred. She didn't even know what Mildred really looked like, as Mildred ha
Willow Baker POVSeveral Hours Later'It's finally over.''I can't believe how stubborn that guy was.'It was honestly ridiculous how he kept trying to act coy and get me to want his company. He could have simply asked if he could join me or if I wanted to spend time with him instead of dancing around the issue.I would have obviously said no, but it was the principle of the matter. The time I could have used to inspect the gifts he had sent me had been wasted trying to get him to go like he had previously said he would. What was the point of saying he was going to leave when he wasn't actually going to?'There's no point in trying to understand people like him.''Do you think he was lying when he said he wouldn't force the issue?''You think?''I'm trying to give him
Willow Baker POVWhen I thought about broaching the subject with him, I didn't expect to encounter him in my room having a stare off with Sir Kerry. Asa was playing on the floor, oblivious to what was happening around her.'Why is it that they're always in this situation whenever I see them together?''Jealousy.'I pretended that I didn't hear that as they glanced in my direction. Sir Kerry was the first to speak. "Your grace, what happened to you?"Did I look that bad?Moving and inspecting the gifts wasn't exactly a relaxing task, but I didn't think I would look that bad. They hadn't even been dirty or dusty. None of the servants had mentioned it on my
Hello everyone. I just want to thank all my readers, especially those who have been following until the end. It's been a long journey. In fact, I believe this book, from start to finish, took almost 7 months, which is a long time. Again, I'm grateful to have all of you. Now, onto what I intend to do next. I have several ideas, but currently I hope to start on Asa Peterson's story. It's going to be about Willow and Maverick's daughter, but with a twist.Instead of being a direct sequel to Luna's Revenge: Willow Baker's Marriage Request, it follows the first life after Willow dies and basically runs almost parallel with it. As such, there might be some spoilers, but it's not required to read both books. They're both standalones.I really hope to get this story off the ground. However, I do have other stories so we'll see how everything works out.Anyway, thank you all again for reaching the end with me. I hope that you all continue following me and have a great day.
Willow Baker POV A Year Later "Willow, are you ready?" Sheila asked as she, Maverick's mother, and Diana stepped into the room. As I stared at the woman in the mirror, I immediately said, "No." My arms shook as I said, "I really can't do this." "What's wrong?" she asked as she immediately rushed over to me. "I don't think I'm ready to get married," I said as I whirled around in my wedding dress. "Willow," Maverick's mother said as she took my hand. "You've already been part of the family for more than three years. We're only making sure you get the wedding you deserve." 'I can't believe I agreed to go along with this crazy idea. Why do we need to have a wedding when we're already husband and wife?' 'I don't have a clue either. You're the one who agreed to it when Maverick asked to marry you, and he even gave you a chance to back out.' I still had mixed feelings when I recalled that incident. It still boggled my mind that he had asked to marry me when we were already married, a
Willow Baker POV"Yes?" I squeaked.I mean, we were married, so I wasn't sure what he was talking about. However, instead of explaining himself, he smiled brightly at me. His smile blinded me and left me in a daze as he slipped the ring onto my finger.Feeling the metal on my finger, I quickly said, "Wait. What's going on?"His smile dropped as he said, "I proposed. Did you not want to marry me?""That's not what I meant," I said as I held both my hands up. "I mean, aren't we already married?""We are, but I want us to be properly married," he said as he stood up. "All we did was sign some papers and file them to formalize our marriage. I want us to have a wedding. It doesn't have to be big. It can just be us and our families or j
Willow Baker POVA Year LaterStaring up at the night sky, I smiled as I held Maverick's hand. I had used to be embarrassed about holding his hand, but now I found myself reaching out to him whenever I can."It's nice out," I said as we continued to walk through the garden. The only sounds were the sounds of the wind and whatever animals were out and about. Basking in the peaceful atmosphere, I still found it hard to believe a year had passed in the blink of an eye."It is," Maverick said with a smile, and he squeezed my hand."So, what is it you wanted to talk about?" I asked."What makes you think I brought you out here to have a talk?" he asked. "I could just want to spend
Willow Baker POVReaching out to the door, I opened it and was greeted by the sight of a gaunt Lesli. The putrid smell and poor condition nearly made me vomit as I covered my nose and mouth."Ah, Willow, you finally came. I was wondering when you would come," he said as he smiled at me. His smile fell when his eyes spotted Maverick right behind me. "Oh, you're here. I didn't ask for you.""I asked him to be here," I said as I held up my arm before Maverick could raise his voice.Lesli tilted his head to one side as he asked, "Why? Did you think I would do something to you?" When I didn't bother to give him a response, he raised his bandaged and chained arms up for us to see. "I can't exactly do anything to you right now.""I'm sure you'll find a way, but that's not
Willow Baker POVUnfortunately, the beautiful moment was ruined as a servant approached us. We stepped away from each other as Maverick frowned. They knew to leave us alone unless it was a serious matter."My apologies, your graces," the man said as he bowed. "The prisoner is acting up and demanding Willow's presence."There was only one person he could be referring to, but before I could say anything, Maverick said, "Willow will not be seeing him. I should have you punished for your insolence."The man quivered beneath Maverick's bloodlust. Asa squirmed at the sensation, but she didn't become upset like the last time she had been exposed to it. I wasn't sure whether I should be glad or upset.Reaching out to touch his shoulder, I said, "Maverick."
Willow Baker POVSeveral Days LaterLeaning back in my chair, I watched with a smile as Maverick played with Asa, who giggled loudly. For once, we were together not because someone had done something to make it happen, and I was quite happy about it.Maverick finally caught Asa, who laughed even harder when he raised her up into the air. She clapped her hands as they returned back to the table where I was sitting. Asa immediately reached out to me.Standing up, I took her from him, and we both settled down to enjoy the tea and snacks that had been left out. Asa tried to reach for the cookie I had, but I kept it out of arm's reach. She was far too young to be eating them.As I nibbled on the cookie while ignoring Asa's attempts to grab it out of
Willow Baker POVSeveral Hours Later'As you were saying.''I still say it isn't bad.'Of course, she would say that. She wasn't the one who had to endure all the stares as I sat next to Maverick. It was like being surrounded by a pack of hungry wolves, ready to pounce at any moment.Maverick scanned the room before standing. "Now that everyone is here, I believe there is something we need to seriously discuss." His face hardened as he said, "You all need to stop harassing us, especially Willow." Immediately, several people looked offended by his words, but he continued on, "This has gone on long enough.""Maverick, I believe you need to watch yo
Willow Baker POVA Few Weeks LaterAfter what had felt like centuries, I had finally kicked everyone out without being rude. I had thought that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, I had been wrong. I had been so very wrong. It seemed like a fire had been lit, causing the family to work even harder to ensure we were a proper couple. Well, at least the women were. The men had kept out of the whole exchange, and I wasn't sure how to feel about that.On one hand, it was better than having all of them gang up on me and Maverick. On the other hand, they weren't helping us and were choosing to stay on the sidelines. Rickey seemed to take particular glee at my suffering.'At least someone is enjoying themselves.'
