Fearing the worst.

Lucas's heart raced with a mix of relief and worry as he listened to Evelyn's urgent plea. He couldn't believe that Melissa was safe, but the mention of her losing consciousness sent a wave of fear crashing over him. Without hesitation, he assured Evelyn that he would be there as soon as possible.

Speeding through the dark streets, Lucas couldn't help but feel a surge of happiness that he had caught up to Melissa. He had been searching for her tirelessly, fearing the worst. But now, knowing that she was in Evelyn's care, he felt a glimmer of hope.

As he approached Evelyn's house, however, a strange sensation washed over him. It was as if an invisible shield had been erected, keeping him at a distance from Melissa. The feeling was unsettling, and Lucas couldn't shake the suspicion that something was amiss.

Parking his car hastily, Lucas rushed to the front door and knocked urgently. Evelyn opened the door, her face etched with concern. "Lucas, thank goodness you're here," she said, her voice filled with relief. "Please, come in."

Lucas stepped inside, his eyes immediately searching for Melissa. He found her sitting in the armchair, pale and still, her hand loosely held in Evelyn's. His heart sank at the sight of her unconscious form, and his suspicions only grew stronger.

"Evelyn, what happened to her?" Lucas asked, his voice trembling with worry.

Evelyn motioned for Lucas to sit down, her eyes filled with a mix of compassion and caution. "I found Melissa running in the park, terrified and in need of help," she explained. "She was exhausted and injured, so I brought her here to tend to her wounds. But as I was caring for her, she suddenly lost consciousness."

Lucas's mind raced with questions and concerns. He couldn't understand why Melissa had lost consciousness or why he felt that strange shield around her. He knew he had to be cautious, but he also couldn't ignore the fact that Melissa needed his help.

"I need to see her," Lucas said firmly, his voice determined. "I need to make sure she's okay."

Evelyn nodded understandingly and led Lucas to Melissa's side. As he approached her, he couldn't help but notice the peaceful expression on her face, despite her unconscious state. He reached out to touch her cheek gently, his heart aching with worry.

But as soon as his hand made contact with her skin, a surge of energy coursed through him. It was as if a force field had been activated, pushing him away. Lucas stumbled back, his mind filled with confusion and suspicion.

"What is happening?" Lucas demanded, his voice laced with frustration. "Why can't I touch her?"

Evelyn's eyes narrowed slightly, her gaze filled with concern. "I don't know, Lucas," she admitted. "But there's something strange going on. It's as if Melissa is protected by some unseen force."

Lucas's mind raced with possibilities. He couldn't ignore the strange sensation he felt whenever he tried to get close to Melissa. It was as if someone or something was shielding her from him. But why? And who could be behind it?

"I don't understand," Lucas muttered, his voice filled with a mix of frustration and determination.

Lucas's mind raced as he tried to make sense of the situation. Suddenly, a thought struck him like a lightning bolt. Melissa's unborn twins! They were the offspring of a powerful alpha, and their instincts to protect their mother could be the reason behind the mysterious force shielding her.

Determined to confirm his theory, Lucas turned to Evelyn with pleading eyes. "Evelyn, we need to get Melissa to my car. I have a feeling her unborn twins are the ones protecting her, and they need to be brought to safety."

Evelyn's expression changed, a mixture of suspicion and concern crossing her face. "Lucas, I understand your concern, but why should I trust you? How do I know you're not involved in whatever is happening to Melissa?"

Lucas's heart sank at the doubt in Evelyn's voice. He knew he needed to convince her, but time was running out, and Melissa's well-being was at stake. He had to make her understand the urgency of the situation.

"There isn't much time, Evelyn," Lucas pleaded, desperation evident in his voice. "Melissa's twins are of immense importance, and I fear for their safety. If we don't act quickly, something terrible could happen to them. We need to get them away from here."

Evelyn hesitated for a moment, her gaze locked with Lucas's. The intensity in his eyes and his genuine concern for Melissa swayed her doubts. She knew Lucas well enough to sense that he would never harm her or the unborn twins.

"Alright, Lucas," Evelyn finally relented, her voice filled with cautious trust. "But remember, the safety of Melissa and her babies is our utmost priority. We will do whatever it takes to protect them."

Relief swept through Lucas as Evelyn agreed. They carefully lifted Melissa from the armchair and carried her towards the front door. Lucas couldn't help but cast one last worried glance at Melissa's pale face before rushing her into the car.

As they drove towards safety, Lucas couldn't shake off the lingering doubts in Evelyn's eyes. He knew he had to prove himself trustworthy, not only for the sake of Melissa and her unborn twins but also to gain Evelyn's full support.

As Lucas drove towards safety, his mind raced with thoughts on how to get Evelyn out of his car without raising suspicion. He knew that he needed to take Melissa to his hideout and prepare to leave the human realm to keep her and the unborn twins safe. However, convincing Evelyn to leave them alone was proving to be a challenge.

Lucas glanced at Evelyn from the corner of his eye, contemplating his next move. He needed to come up with a plan that would allow him to separate Evelyn from Melissa without raising any red flags. He couldn't risk Evelyn discovering his intentions and interfering with his plans to protect Melissa and the unborn twins.
