CHAPTER 66

SANTIAGO

"Take this it would help you remember —"

Those were Glenn's last words and with the necklace in my hands the moment was sealed with a hug and kiss on the chin.

I opened the door to the hotel room to find Martha on her phone, her back to me.

I closed the door behind me and the little click sound from closing the door alerted Martha of my presence. She turned around and immediately put her phone down, rushing towards me with her face looking apologetic and filled with remorse.

"Where did you go?" She asked as she got to where I stood to look up at me, her lips pouted as they pointed up at me.

She was a really beautiful woman and it was times like this you really noticed it. one's, you really noticed it.

She was still wearing the same dress that I had left her in earlier. Even though we had fought earlier, I still felt the urge to protect her and kiss her.

"I'm sorry about earlier," she added quickly as if seeing something on my face that showed animosity.

"I didn't mean to accuse you of anything. It's just that…"

"It's fine." I shut her up with a forehead kiss.

"Let's not argue anymore than this."

I told her and she nodded with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. She looked like she wanted to ask more but shook her head against it as if trying to savor this moment or prevent a fight.

"Okay." She said quietly.

"What's wrong?" I asked, wanting to know what she wanted to say. I hated when she didn't tell me everything, especially the ones bothering her.

"Nothing, I'm just glad you are back and no longer mad at me." She wasn't telling the entire truth but I didn't push for answers.

"Did you get something to eat while I was gone?"

I asked, tucking her hair behind her ears.

"I was waiting for you." She shook her head.

"I'll order room service…"

"Thank you." She smiled wide, this time the smile touching her face.

"Oh but the way the company called, they said they are moving headquarters closer to us. Isn't that great?" She asked, a bit more like herself this time.

I was about to reply when her phone buzzed, indicating an incoming call.

"I'm sorry, I have to take this." She said sheepishly and I shrugged, letting her know it was okay.

She turned around and walked over to the balcony, giving me the alone time I actually needed to think.

With a sigh, I took out the necklace that Glenn had given to me that was supposed to help me get back my memory.

It was a silver necklace that looks feminine — leaving me with doubts that it would really work.

Was this really going to give me back my memory? I didn't know but Glen had said it would work and I trusted him.

As I was about to try it on, the necklace slipped from my hand and fell to the ground. I bent down to pick it up but was met with a familiar slender hand already picking it up.

Martha straightened almost at the same time as I did and with one look at her face, I knew I was in trouble, why? Was the question now.

"What is this?" She asked, dangling the necklace in my face with a narrowed and perturbed gaze.

"A necklace." I answered simply.

Her gaze narrowed further.

"I know that genius! Who gave It to you?" She pressed, her eyes boring into mine.

"A friend." I said calmly, knowing this was about to escalate quickly.

"What friend?! You are seeing other women aren't you?" Her voice suddenly broke, sending me into panic.

"What? No!" I tried to defend myself but she immediately talked over me.

"I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt Santiago but it seems I'm the one fooling myself!" Martha yelled.

"What are you talking about? That necklace is…"

"Oh don't bother with your lies, I knew it!" She said as her face palmed herself.

"I knew you were seeing someone else but my naive mind didn't want to believe it!"

She spat, her eyes filled with unshed tears.

I wasn't sure what to do, I felt frozen in my place, not to mention confused.

"Calm down Martha, this necklace belongs to a friend." I explained again but it seemed that my statement made the situation worse because she began to sob.

"You really do think I'm stupid, don't you?" She said, with tears streaming down her face and a clogged throat.

The sight made my heart constrict in my chest. I hated seeing her cry, hell I hated seeing anyone cry but somehow this hit way harder.

"Of course not. I'm telling you the truth, will you just listen to me!"

I tried to explain to her but she looked like she didn't believe a single word.

"Don't touch me!" She yelled at me when I tried to reach out and comfort her.

I sighed, exasperated at the fact that we were having another fight.

"You being unreasonable, you know that right." I said, dragging my hand through my hair in frustration.

"Oh, I'm being unreasonable? watch me be unreasonable even more then.." she said and began to stalk towards the door with anger in footsteps.

"Where are you going?"

I yelled after her. She was barely in clothes and she was crying. Where the hell did she think she was going to?

"Somewhere I won't be lied to." She answered.

She was at the door, her hands on the door knob about to twist it open when I pulled her to my chest and before she could protest, kissed her lips.

She stiffened at first but quickly wrapped her hands around my neck, pulling me into the kiss.

I pulled away from her when the gravity of what I had done hit me and stepped several steps back.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that… I'll, um go get some milkshakes."

I muttered like a fool before storming out, leaving Martha staring at me flabbergasted.
