CHAPTER 78

SANTIAGO

I walked out of the conference room where the meeting was being held, in a rush, and then I halted as I got out to the hallway.

I loosened my tie a bit, and squinted my eyes in discomfort and sweat beads popped out on my forehead. I grunted as I opened my eyes widely, and this place seemed like it was upside down and like it was going to fall.

I leaned on the wall for support as my eyes became fuzzy and blurry and then my breath was faster. What the hell was just said in the meeting room? That werewolves existed?

It wouldn't be possible for such fantasy creatures to exist in the real world. The most unbelievable thing was that Martha and I were asked to work on it. Why did we have to work on something like that?

So, if they were actually real, then we are in danger as werewolves are known to be quite dangerous, especially to humans.

Soon, the meeting ended, and Martha and I were in the car, driving back home.

“So, how do you think we are going to go about this? How do we find a suitable specimen for our experiment? You know we do not have too much time to waste on this.” Martha asked as she ran her fingers through her hair.

“Look. I don’t believe these creatures exist. How are we supposed to work on something that doesn’t exist, ! Tell me, Martha.” I raised my voice, but comforted myself.

“I feel they might be real, since they talked about it. They won’t allow us to go about this stress for nothing.” Martha said, trying to convince me.

“Martha, I don’t believe in this and I’m not going to work on it. Let’s just stop talking about this, and focus on something more realistic.” I insisted, and exhaled sharply and out of frustration.

“You need to calm down. We can figure out something about this. Don’t work yourself up.” Martha tried to calm me down, and leaned her back on the chair.

We arrived at the hotel and as Martha was about to go into the room with me, I stopped her.

“Anything wrong?” She asked, out of curiosity.

“No. Just that we can’t stay together anymore, and for that, I have paid for a room for you.”

I could see how her smile turned into a frown effortlessly. She didn’t seem happy about it, but there was nothing I could do about it. I wanted her to stay in her own place while I have my privacy.

“Oh! It’s fine. Thank you for paying for a room for me by the way.” She appreciated me.

“You’re welcome.”

I walked into my room, and sat on the bed helplessly. I thought about the discussion we had about werewolves and it still didn't make any sense. How do I chase something that wasn’t real?

If it were real, we would have to do a lot to catch one, just for a specimen. That’s more life threatening, but still, it was crazy to think that it could be real.

I stood up, and pulled off my clothes. Probably if I have a cold bath, I wouldn’t have to think about this anymore, and will be able to relax, rather than thinking hard on something which I can’t even think of how they look like.

I walked into the bathroom, and turned on the shower. The water sprouted out of the shower, and rained on me. My head felt cool, and I loved the way the water drizzled down to every part of my body.

It was refreshing and satisfying. I ruffled my hair so the water would get to my scalp the way I wanted it and that was exactly what was happening.

I began to hum to a happy song, and my mood felt better than before. After having my bath, I walked out of the bathroom, cleaned myself up, then changed into comfortable clothing.

I sat down back on my bed, and relaxed my head on the pillow. I stared at the ceiling, and then the events which happened today and the whole conversation began to flow in.

“Shit!” I cursed out as I slammed my hand on the bed.

I picked up my phone, and dialed Glenn’s contact. Her phone rang for a while before she answered the call.

“Hello Glenn.” I greeted her with a smile on my face.

“Hi Santiago.” She responded heartily.

“Can we meet up?” I asked, hoping she was free.

“Yeah, sure.”

I headed off to the restaurant and when I got there, I had to wait for a few minutes before I saw Glenn walking towards me.

“Hey, Thiago.” She waved at me.

“Hey. I hope I didn’t get you into too much stress to come over here?” I asked politely.

“No. It’s fine.”

“So, how has your day been, and is there anything you'd like to order?” I asked as I placed my phone on the table.

“Uhm… Just water for now. I’m not really in the mood to drink or eat.” Glenn replied and exhaled.

“Is there anything wrong or wrong?” I asked her, hoping she was okay.

“Yes. Everything is fine. I’m not just in the mood.”

“Alright.”

I called the waitress over and she served us a glass of water, and then after gulping down the glass of water, I faced Glenn.

Glenn sniffled, then looked up at me.

“So, I actually got another threat message.”

I noticed she was really worried and I was really worried that I had to ask what was wrong, hoping she was going to speak to me about that.

“Well, I really do not understand why I’m being sent that threat message, but I do hope things are fine.”

“Hmmm. I hope everything is fine too. By the way, my company asked us to get a werewolf specimen, and that’s just so weird because they don’t exist.” I scoffed, and slammed my hand on my face.

But then, Glenn coughed and a look of discomfort showed in her face. She didn’t look comfortable about this.
