The Poor Guy

"What are they going to do to the poor guy? Anyone would think Mattia would kill him," I said.

Mabel had just laid out the pyjamas I was going to wear tonight. This is advantageous because I don't have to leave the room too much to interact with Mattia's family.

"The less you know about this house, the better!" Mabel replied.

I pursed my lips and turned away from the window to sit on the bed. Slowly, my energy recovered, but it only improved my body, not my feelings.

"Because if Mattia is really going to kill that man, I've seen too much death around me," I said.

Mabel's eyes looked at me with concern, but I didn't need pity. I don't know if Mabel is that kind of woman. I can believe her or not. She's worked here a long time.

"And maybe there's a reason why you went through all that."

"I'm still mourning the loss of my baby, Mabel! I don't want to see death again."

"Then don't peek out the window again."

"Why? That means, the poor guy will die today, right?"
