Sign The Deal

MATTIA

"So this is how I signed the deal!" I put down the paper containing my marriage contract with Harper Lacour.

Alessio was flabbergasted and stopped putting sugar into his coffee cup. "You what?"

"Like I said."

"Harper? That girl whose father you killed?"

"I don't think she knows that part! Technically the damn man died because he was old."

Alessio shook his head, not really agreeing with my decision. Alessio visited today to give news about the family business. There was a traitor who fled to this country, and my father gave orders to look for the traitor.

"You got married without telling your family. Do you think they will be happy with this?"

"You know, I have to protect Lucia!"

"Why? Is she still being targeted by them? So you think your marriage is the best to protect Lucia?"

Lucia, my ex-girlfriend. Our relationship was going well, but an incident made Lucia leave me. I don't know what love is; all I know is that Lucia always accompanies me whenever I'm in trouble, so up to this moment, I'm still thinking about it.

Lucia and I have been separated for a year. During that time, she was targeted by one of my competitors because they thought Lucia was my weakness, even though they didn't know that my relationship with Lucia had ended.

"I have to use Harper to replace Lucia. She must be their target; that way, Lucia's life will be safe!"

"I thought you fell in love at first sight with Harper; thank goodness you haven't changed!"

"Man, Harper is not my type; you know who I really want! Harper is just bait! But damn, she's pregnant now."

"What the hell?"

"She just got divorced and is pregnant!"

"Damn, this is going to be complicated! Sooner or later, the family will find out about your marriage, so make sure he doesn't bring problems into the family! If necessary, make her abort the baby."

Alessio sipped his coffee, turned on the TV, and looked for the latest news broadcast. I let go of my huft, then stepped towards my room. My eyes turned to the brown envelope, and I saw several wedding photos of Harper and me lying on top of the envelope.

Harper agreed to enter into a marriage contract with me just to protect her parents' property, but she didn't know that her life was also in danger because she was with me. She's so naive, fighting for her family?

"Hello, how about her?" I called my subordinate.

"She hasn't said anything, sir!"

"It's been a week; tell Harper to decide quickly!"

"Yes, Sir, but…"

"But what?"

"It looks like she will refuse your request; there is a bit of unrest in her family!"

I raised my eyebrows; I heard that Harper had lost her parents. She is also an only child, so who else is her family?

"Then I'll be there!"

"Okay, sir!"

I reached for my car keys, and for some reason, I felt curious about the life of this arrogant woman. At our wedding, only two people were accompanying her; they didn't even talk to me.

"Where are you going? Dad just called me and..."

"When you go home? Tell Emma to arrange your flight tickets whenever you want. About that traitor, let me handle it."

Alessio snorted, "Then where do you want to go now? Shouldn't we have some fun tonight since I'm visiting?"

"I have things to take care of; that arrogant woman is testing my patience."

"Who? Harper?"

"Yup, Emma will take care of the VIP room at the Greeny Club for you, and she will choose a woman according to your taste! I'm leaving."

My car was moving at high speed towards a place I hadn't visited for a long time. The last time I visited the grape estate it was when I threatened Harper's father. Now, I'm dealing with her daughter, and her daughter has the same attitude; it's troublesome.

It didn't take long for me to get there. My arrival was greeted with sharp stares from several people. As before, I used to think they were laborers that Lacour hired for this estate.

"You?" Harper greeted me with an unhappy tone. "Why did you come here? I told you I'd see you again!"

"When? I'm not good at waiting!" I answered calmly.

Several people appeared slowly. They gathered behind Harper and me, staring at me as if I were prey.

"What are they staring at? Like I walked into a wolf den or something!" I quipped. Even my men wouldn't have the gaze of wild animals like them.

Harper glanced in various directions, and with just a nod of her head, they all dispersed. At the entrance, the two people who came to my wedding also left.

"Wow, they are very obedient to their boss, even though you are just a woman!"

"Why so if I'm a woman?"

"Women are not suited to be leaders! Women are too weak, crybabies; even in battle, they involve feelings and pity the enemy!"

"Whatever you say! Go back to your house; I'll catch up with you later."

Harper turned around, but I grabbed her arm. "I've come a long way. Is this how you greet your husband?"

"Oh, come on, Mr Mattia, it's not like we had an intimate wedding, and you came here to lure your beloved wife back home. This is just an agreement between us, and this doesn't count towards my time working with you!"

"Well, that sounds interesting, but you know what sounds even more interesting?"

"What?"

"My family knows that we are married?"

"So?" she answered, still with an arrogant expression on her face, "I don't have a problem with that because you also know that this marriage is not what they imagined!"

"You sure are skilled at speaking, but I don't want to complicate my position! My father is compassionate, and my mother is too troublesome, so…"

"So what?"

"I want you to abort your pregnancy! You can't be pregnant!"

Harper raised her hand; she didn't think at all about landing a harsh slap on my cheek. "How dare you!" she snapped.
