Chapter 2

The other employee nodded. "Yeah, Luna really cares about us. She listens to our concerns and always has our backs. I've never had a boss like her before."

"What's going on?" Luna asked, surprised by his sudden appearance. 

  

"We need to talk," Alex said, his voice tense. 

  

Luna knew that tone all too well. They had been having problems for a while, but she had hoped they could keep them outside of work. 

  

"I'm kind of busy right now," Luna said, hoping to avoid a confrontation. 

  

"I don't care," Alex snapped. "This is important." 

  

Luna sighed and turned to face him. "Fine, what is it?" 

  

"I can't keep doing this," Alex said, his voice rising. "You're always working, always focused on your job. You don't have time for me anymore." 

  

Luna felt her blood boil. She had worked hard to get where she was, and she wasn't about to let anyone make her feel guilty for it. 

  

"I'm sorry if my career is a problem for you," Luna said, her voice cold. "But I won't apologize for chasing my dreams." 

  

Alex's face twisted in anger. "It's not about your career. It's about us. I need more from you, Luna. I need to feel like I matter." 

  

Luna felt a pang of guilt. She did care about Alex, but she also knew that her job was important to her. 

  

"I'm sorry if I've been neglecting you," Luna said, her tone softening. "But you can't just barge into my office like this. We can talk about this later, when I'm not in the middle of something." 

  

But Alex wasn't having it. "No, we need to talk about this now. I can't keep feeling like I'm second to your job." 

  

Luna felt a surge of frustration. She didn't want to fight with Alex, but she also couldn't just drop everything to cater to his needs. 

  

"I need to get back to work," Luna said, her voice firm. "We can talk about this later, but right now, I have a deadline to meet." 

  

Alex looked at her with hurt in his eyes. "Fine. Whatever. Just forget about us." 

  

And with that, he stormed out of the room, leaving Luna alone with her thoughts. She knew that their relationship was in trouble, but she also knew that she couldn't sacrifice her career for anyone. 

  

As Luna turned back to her computer, she felt a sense of sadness and regret wash over her. She loved Alex, but she also loved her job. And she wasn't sure if there was a way to have both. 

  

  

For the rest of the day, Luna couldn't focus on her work. She kept replaying the argument with Alex in her head, wondering if there was anything she could have said or done differently.

"Luna, wait up," it was Alex. 

  

Luna turned to face him, her heart pounding in her chest. She didn't know what to expect, but she knew that they needed to talk. 

  

"Look, I'm sorry about earlier," Alex said, his voice soft. "I shouldn't have come into your office like that. I was just feeling frustrated." 

  

Luna felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe they could work things out after all. 

  

"I'm sorry too," Luna said, her voice gentle. "I know I've been neglecting you, and I don't want you to feel like you're not important to me. But my job is important to me too. I hope you can understand that." 

  

Alex looked at her for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then, finally, he spoke. 

  

"I do understand," he said, his voice low. "And I'm sorry for putting so much pressure on you. I love you, Luna, and I want us to work things out." 

  

Luna felt her heart swell with relief. Maybe things weren't perfect between her and Alex, but they were willing to work on it. And that was all that mattered. 

  

As Luna and Alex walked out of the office together, Luna felt a sense of peace wash over her. Maybe they had argued, but they had also talked it out. And that was a good start. 

  

Over the next few days, Luna and Alex made an effort to spend more time together outside of work. They went on long walks, had dinner at their favorite restaurants, and even took a weekend trip to the beach.
