Adira’s POV
Last night when I snuck back into the house, I fell asleep thinking of Zane and the promise he had made to me that I would be his. A promise I was starting to believe would possibly come true, after the dream I had. In my dream, mother had taken both Aira and I to get our hair done for the Mating Ceremony. As I looked into the mirror, I saw the reflection of a beautiful she wolf staring back at me, in a long pale pink gown that hugged my curves in all the right ways. It was the first time in my life that I thought of myself as beautiful and found myself believing that I could be what Zane needed me to be to become his Luna. After a quick shower, I headed downstairs in the hope of beating my family out of bed to try and catch Zane before he started his training this morning with the warriors, so that I could talk to him about his proposal. But to my surprise everyone was sitting around the dining room table as if they were waiting on me to join them. Mother was the first to speak when they saw me. “Adira, its so nice that you could grace us with your presence today.” The sound of sarcasm was clearly attentive in her voice and I had to wonder what was so important that they wanted to talk to me. Looking at the clock on the wall, I say to her, “I’m sorry but I have to be somewhere.” As I turned to leave the room, my father’s voice stopped me when he said, “Adira.” Turning, I looked at my father who had a stern look on his face and I now was seriously worried that I was in trouble. “Take your seat.” My father then said and I glanced up at the clock knowing I wasn’t going to make it to see Zane this morning. With a frown on my face, I moved to my normal seat and pulled out a chair and sat down waiting to hear what was so important that I needed to be present for. Looking at Aira, I knew whatever it was, she was excited to hear what was about to be said and I had to wonder if she was gloating in my pain. “Now that we are all sitting here together, I would like to discuss the upcoming Mating Ceremony. Both of you are now of age to find your mates and I want to make sure that we are all on the same page with what is about to happen.” My father begins to say, and I had to wonder why I needed to be present for this conversation, when he was clearly only worried about Aira and her suitor. “There is no doubt that Aira will find her mate at the Ceremony but Adira, I would like you to put forth some effort so that one of the males in this pack or visiting packs will be willing to take you off my hands.” He then said landing a hard blow to me. I knew I wasn’t either of my parents’ favorite, but they could at least sugarcoat it a bit, not making it so obvious that they saw no future for me. “Father, I am sorry that I am a disappointment to you and mother. I wasn’t given the beauty that Aira has been blessed with.” I tell him as I lower my head ashamed that I have brought so much dishonor to the family by just being born. “Hush child. You will go with Aira today to find a dress for the Ceremony.” My mother says and both Aira and I turn our heads to look at her. “Mother, you can’t be serious.” Aira said to my mother with an appalled look on her face and I knew why. Aira would rather be thrown in a pit of venomous snakes than to be caught in public with me. We had been close growing up until the other pups began to make fun of me and when that happened Aira drew herself away from me and we barely spoke since. To say I wasn’t hurt that my own sister betrayed me and chimed in on the taunting was an understatement but I had something that she wanted and that was alone time with Zane. Yes, it may only have been for training purposes, and he may have felt bad for me and the way the others treated me, but I had him as a friend and now even a future mate. “Aira, I am serious. Maybe you could rub off on her a little today and she can find a dress that will help her with her looks.” My mother now tells Aira and I almost want to barf. The last person I wanted to take beauty tips from was Aira. Yes, she was beautiful but there was no way that I was going to cake my face like she did with that much makeup, or wear those tight jeans that she wore, leaving nothing to the imagination. “Fine.” Aira says as she crosses her arms over her chest, and I can tell she isn’t pleased that she has to take me with her either. “Wait, don’t I get a say in this?” I ask but both my parents say, “No!” at the same time. My father then handed Aira his credit card and said, “Make sure you buy the prettiest dress you can find. I want you in the running to become the next Luna of this pack.” A chuckle left my lips, and I couldn’t help myself from gloating knowing that Zane was going to ask me to be his Luna and I wondered what my parents were going to think of me after I was the one that became their Luna. Would they finally treat me as well as they have treated Aira all these years? Or would they hate me for taking the chance of Aira their beautiful precious daughter’s chance away from her? My father gave me a stern look before he said, “Don’t dishonor our family while you are with Aira. We can’t take any chances this close to the Mating Ceremony.” “Don’t worry father. I will make sure that our family’s name and reputation is upheld.” Aira tells him as she gets up from the table and eyes me giving me a smile that I clearly see through as pure evil. Aira then leans down, and our father gives her a kiss on the cheek before we leave for the mall. There was no exchange of affection as I got up myself from the table to leave along with Aira and it was something that I was clearly used to after all these years of being their disappointment. When we got to the mall, Aira turned to me and said, “Whatever you do, don’t walk next to me. I don’t want anyone to know we are together.” “Don’t worry little sister. I wouldn’t want anyone to know that I was with you either.” I told her as I moved away from her and headed towards the dress shop that mother told us to go to. When I got to the windows that lined the front of the store, I immediately stopped when a dress caught my eye. It was the same color as the dress in my dream and I had to wonder if it was more than just a dream, I was having last night. Aira must have passed me because when I entered the store, she was already with a sales associate picking out dresses to try on. I decided to wait for her to pick out her dress before I asked to try on the dress in the window. Moving around the store, I began to look at the other dresses hanging on the racks, when I noticed eyes on me. I turned to see another sales associate standing directly behind me. “Can I help you?” The sales associate asked me and even though I was going to wait on Aira to pick her dress first, I said, “I would like to try the pink dress on in the window.” The sales associate looked towards the window and then back at me and said, “I am sorry you are too late. Someone right before you picked that dress to try on.” “Oh.” I said back to her and turned to see the dress was no longer in the window and wonder who had picked out the dress, but then it was clear who had, when Aira walked out of the dressing room wearing the dress and it fit her just like in my dream. I had to wonder if it was her reflection looking back at me in the mirror in my dream. Turning back to the sales associate I ask her, “Is there another dress that you would suggest for me?” The sales associate gave me a half-hearted smile before she said, “I’m sorry but I’m going to have to ask you to leave. We don’t really cater to your kind, and I don’t think there is anything in here that you could afford anyhow.” “My kind?” I asked her, wondering what she was talking about. “Yes, your kind.” Another sales associate says coming up from behind me. “Servants aren’t welcomed in here. You can try the dress store on the bottom floor. I am sure they will have something in your price range.” She said as she looked me up and down and I couldn’t believe that they thought I was a servant. Just then Aira emerged from the dressing room handing the pink dress to the sales associate helping her, telling her she would take the dress and then moved towards where I was standing. At first, I thought she was coming to help me, but she moved towards the shoe rack avoiding me and the sales associates that were harassing me. A group of young she wolves then entered the dress store and looked in my direction. The look of disgust plastered their faces when they saw me. “You need to leave now before I am forced to call security to have you removed.” My parents had been adamant about me finding a dress so they weren’t embarrassed by me, and I knew if I went home empty handed that I would never hear the end of it. I had no clue what to do other than to call out to my sister for help. At first, she ignored me but after I called her name a second time, she turned and looked in my direction and the sales associate looked at her and asked, “Miss do you know this servant?” Aira’s eyes met with mine and she stared at me for a few seconds before she said, “I’m sorry but I have no clue who this servant is.” I shouldn’t have been surprised by her answer, but it still stung hard, and I couldn’t hold back the hurt that it caused me, as a tear slowly trickled down my cheek. Aira stood there and watched the tear slide down my cheek, until it slid off my face and turned to the sales associate holding up a silver shoe, and asked, “Do you have these in a size seven?” A hand then grabbed my arm and said, “You have to leave now.” Without thinking, I grabbed the hand that was on my arm, and said, “Don’t ever touch me again.” The sale associate cried out in pain as I gripped her hand, and I hadn’t realized that I was hurting her. Letting go of her hand, I ran out of the store as fast as I could, knowing that my parents weren’t going to be happy with me when they heard what happened.Adira’s POV Before I knew where I was, I was deep in the forest heading towards the packhouse, but I knew that I couldn’t go there at this time of the day to see Zane. All I wanted was to seek comfort and I knew he was the only one that had ever shown me an ounce of compassion, but I also knew that it was in the privacy of the night with no one around us. So instead, I ran towards the only place I ever felt comfort and knew if I waited there, he would come to me tonight. Once I got to the clearing in the woods, I sat down against the old maple tree that had our initials carved into it. It was something that Zane and I had done years ago to mark this as our spot, claiming it from all others that dared to take it from us. Tears began to fall from my eyes as I thought back to what had just happened at the dress store. I couldn’t believe that the sales associates thought that I was a servant, but as I looked down at the clothes that I was wearing, I realized that I must in their eye
Adira’s POV “What do you need to address father?” Aira asks my father as I take my seat. My father cups his hands in front of him before he says, “The Alpha and Luna paid me a visit late last night.” My mother gave out a gasp before she asks, “Why didn’t you tell me about this last night dear?” My father cleared his throat before he said, “Because I wanted the whole family to hear the news together.” I moved to the edge of my seat wondering if Zane had really gone through with telling his parents that he wanted me to be his Luna. There was no other explanation for them visiting my father and I had to wonder how he took the news of Zane choosing me over Aira. This had to be the reason why he too wasn’t at our spot last night. Aira began to clap her hands and said, “Oh father, do tell.” My father looked at my mother with a huge smile on his face as he says, “It turns out that Zane has asked for our daughter to become his Luna.” Butterflies began to flutter in my belly at
Adira’s POV Cold water hits my face like an iceberg, and I quickly open my eyes to see that I am surrounded by a group of men I have never seen before. Realizing I am naked, I sit up and pull my legs into me as they all stare at me and I look around at their faces not recognizing any of them. That’s when I began to try and see my surroundings as my head felt foggy. “Who are you? And what are you doing on our lands?” A tall man says to me as he looks down at me. I went to answer him, but nothing came out of my mouth because I didn’t know the answers to what he seeks. “Answer me little wolf.” The man now says to me and I tilt my head to the side to his reference little wolf. “Maybe she is a mute.” One of the other men say to the man that just asked me the questions. “Or maybe her pack threw her out of their pack, and she is a rogue.” Another man said to the tall man. “Hush! She doesn’t smell like a rogue.” The tall man said back to the man that had called me a rogue. His att
Adira’s POV It didn’t take long for the pack doctor to clear me of any injuries and said what I had to be suffering from was an internal emotional battle with myself. Something painful had to of triggered me to lose my memory or that my wolf was doing this to protect me. Every time I tried to remember my life before I woke up, it brought on a headache from hell that almost took me to my knees. “Don’t push yourself to remember. It will come back to you in all good time.” The pack doctor told me as he watched me hold my head in pain. I was glad to hear that my memories would come back to me, but what was I to do in the meantime, not knowing who I was, or where I came from. Turning to Blaze, I asked, “Until then what am I to do?” “I’m sure Alpha Liam won’t put you out. You’re not a danger to our pack so I am sure he will let you stay here in the meantime.” Blaze said as we began to walk out of the infirmary and towards the packhouse that sat further away from the training area.
Liam’s POV After calming the new she wolf, I, myself, had to walk away and take a breather myself. Something about her was different from the other she wolves that I have been in contact with. Her wolf was strong and I could clearly feel an Alpha presence when her wolf showed a small glimpse of herself and it took everything I had in me to will her to calm her wolf. I had to now wonder after seeing her fight if she had training because no untrained she wolf could have pulled off the moves that she just pulled off against Racheal, one of my best female warriors. Racheal had clearly taken a cheap shot at her and I honestly don’t blame her wolf for reacting to it, but she needs to learn how to control her wolf, especially in battle. But there were no other packs that I knew of, especially in our area, that allowed their she wolves to train and this was where I was lost to where she had come from. A part of me wanted to call all the local packs to see if they were missing a she wolf
Adira’s POV My wolf was still purring after Alpha Liam had left the room. At first, I thought that he was here to tell me that I had to leave after what transpired on the training field, but when he looked into my eyes, I knew that wasn’t the case. But I had to walk on eggshells because I had no other place to go and I needed to stay on my best behavior here until I at least get my memory back and know where home was exactly. Wiping the mirror off from the steam that was caused by the shower, I look at the reflection looking back at me. Nothing about the person staring back at me looked familiar and I wondered how I didn’t even know what I looked like. Rummaging through the drawers of the vanity, I found a brush and began to comb out my long brown hair. It was long and sat down past my breast and I had to wonder if I had ever had a haircut. There was a knock on my door and I rushed towards it worried that it was the Alpha again and he had changed his mind about letting me stay h
Liam’s POV Sitting at the head of the table as I always do I find myself impatiently waiting for the new she wolf to arrive at dinner. I had told her five pm and I would have thought she would have been here by now, but it was five till and she still wasn’t here. The room was filling up fast as my pack continued to enter the dining room and the tables surrounding mine were now full. Blaze then walks in and takes his seat next to mine and I look over at him and ask, “Have you seen the new she wolf?” “Not since I put her in her room earlier, but I sent Lyra up with some clothes for her afterwards.” Blaze told me and I then began to scan the room for Lyra, as worry filled me that something had happened, when I realized her seat was empty too. Lyra was my baby sister and she had never really fit in with the rest of the pack and she kept to herself most of the time, because the other she wolves looked down on her because she wasn’t a warrior like the rest of them. Lyra had a kind h
Adira’s POV When dinner was over I felt a bit of relief as we got up to leave the table. I felt like everyone’s eyes were on me, especially after Alpha Liam had told the she wolf that he wouldn’t be joining them on a run tonight because of another engagement and I had to wonder what the other engagement was. “We can watch a movie tonight in my room, if you would like.” Lyra says to me as we go to move out of the dining room but we were stopped by Alpha Liam. “Go upstairs and change and meet me at the training area in ten minutes.” Alpha Liam said to me, as he moved past me and down a hallway. Looking at Lyra, I said, “Raincheck.” “It’s fine. I am sure he just wants to test your abilities. Maybe if its not to late we can still watch a movie.” Lyra said to me with hope, as we began to climb the stairs. “Sure, that would be great.” I said to her as we came to our floor and Lyra stopped at a door and said, “This is me. If you get back in time, just knock.” Assuring her I wou
Adira’s POV “Why does this hurt so damn bad?” I asked the nurse and the pack doctor as I began to push to another contraction. “Pup birth is a beautiful thing.” The doctor said back to me and I let out a growl letting him know there wasn’t anything beautiful about this. I would take being poisoned again with wolfbane over this. “Where is Liam?” I cried out after I gave them one hard push like the pack doctor had asked for. Lyra quickly moved to the bed and took my hand in hers. “They are on their way. Does it really hurt that bad?” Lyra asks with big eyes knowing that she wasn’t far behind me giving birth to hers and Alpha Zane’s pup. Another contraction came and I squeezed her hand in pain as she let out her own scream from the pressure I was putting on her hand. “I take that as a yes.” She said as she winced. “Let’s just say, I would rather go to war, have my stomach ripped open and be shot up with wolfbane.” I tell her through gritted teeth. “I don’t think you are help
Adira’s POV “You’re my aunt?” Finally came from my lips as my heart began to beat fast from this revelation. “It seems that I am.” Stella said and turned to look at my mother and added, “That frog thing doesn’t sound like a bad idea.” Ali gave out a burst of laughter and I had to hold back my ow as I knew what she was referring to and I had to wonder what kind of relationship my mother and Stella had as siblings. “Wait, mother why didn’t I know you had a sister?” Aira now asked her mother as she eyed Stella. “She is only my half-sister.” My mother says to Aira and then adds, “And as you can see with your eyes, I was always the prettier one.” I don’t know why but at that moment I let out a growl to my mother warning her. It may have been her mean words spoken to Stella or it may have been because I knew those words spoken to myself for so many years. Either way I was done with hearing these hurtful words from the both of them. Aira smirked at me, and said, “Now I see wher
Adira’s POV After Ali’s mother and coven left Crimson, I knew I had to find my own closure with the rest of my family before we headed back to Nightshade. My mother and sister Aira were being kept at a separate facility that was for less misdemeanor, since my father was the mind behind all that had happened. Ali insisted that she join me and I knew it was because she wanted to see Aira again. Ali hadn’t had the pleasure of being tortured by Aira and she had no clue how ruthless Aira had become over the years as our father groomed her to become the next Luna of the Crimson pack. I, on the other hand, had a front row seat to all of this and was treated by all of them as the mistake that happened since Aira was the beauty queen out of the two of us. Alpha Liam and Alpha Zane had work what needed to be done at the packhouse before our return back to Nightshade. I reassured Alpha Liam that I would be fine going with Ali by my side. Of course, he said he would feel better if I took some
Adira’s POV The war had been won today but there was still closure that I needed and so did Ali. Both of us were the product of this messed up world that the elders had created. Ali on the other hand had a mother that truly did love her and from what I had just witnessed loved my father dearly too. It was a shame that he picked the way of the elders over the Moon Goddess and the mate that she had blessed him with. As the two of us walked down the grand staircase together, Ali’s mother stood beside what I now learned was the High Priestess and her mother. Ali was not just any witch she was born into royal blood. She one day could have been the High Priestess of her coven, but her mother’s choice to be with my father took that right from her. She was only half witch and that meant she could never hold the title of High Priestess. Ali’s mother’s eyes moved from her to me and when she saw the two of us together, she realized that she had made a grave mistake earlier when she had tri
Adira’s POV My eyes opened to a splitting headache as my eyes tried to focus on the figures standing over me. All three began to speak at the same time and I quickly reached for my head as it felt like it had been squeezed tightly. Finally, I heard Stella say, “Quiet.” And the room went silent and my head instantly felt a bit of relief. This time when I opened my eyes, they focused on the faces of three individuals that stood over me, watching me with worry in their eyes. “I’m okay.” I said as I tried to pull myself up to a sitting position with some help from Lyra. “I’m so sorry. My mother didn’t know what she was doing. She must have gone mad after seeing father laying there on the ground. Please forgive her.” Ali said to me and as I remember back to the last memory I had before darkness took me, I remembered the face of the woman staring at me. I hadn’t recognized her at the time but now that Ali said, her mother, her face now rang a bell to me from my dreams. There was no do
Liam’s POV Adira’s warning that the witches were here and to take the final blow, was the last thing I heard from her as she disappeared from my view with Stella and Lyra. Hearing this I knew it was time to stop toying with my prey and I let my claws elongate and pulled my hand back to take the final blow. As my hand came down across Adira’s father’s neck, I felt his skin tear beneath them as they became coated in the crimson color of his blood. An ear-piercing scream now filled the air around me before I went flying in the air. At first, I thought that it was Ali and that she had gone against the pack, but as I flew in the air, I saw her fighting along aside Blaze and knew it wasn’t her as I landed hard by the stage. Alpha Zane quickly moved to me as I began to slowly get up from the hard impact. “The witches are here.” I tell him as I get to my feet. “Good. Now we have them right where we want them.” Alpha Zane says as he lets out a howl calling in the reinforcements, we had
Adira’s POV My eyes remained glued on Alpha Liam as my father took his fighting stance, but Liam just stood there like my father was not a worthy opponent. This of course upset my father as he let out a growl warning Alpha Liam to take him seriously. The death that Alpha Zane was giving my father I thought was too good for what he had done. Yes, he was born a warrior, but he shouldn’t be allowed to go out with a warrior’s death, and I can see that Alpha Liam agrees with me as he mocks my father by not taking a fighting stance, showing him no respect. “If I am to die, then give me a warrior’s death if you think you can.” My father now says to Alpha Liam. Alpha Liam let out a growl before he says, “A warrior’s death is too good for you.” “Seems that we are on the same page. I will make sure to give you an honorable warrior’s death.” My father then said as he leaped towards Alpha Liam. I wanted to cry out to him to watch
Liam’s POV Holding onto Adira’s hand I watched as her father was led to the stage and I could feel what she was feeling as her walls were down and her feelings were flowing freely to me. I began to worry that this was too much stress on her and our unborn pup and I should have insisted that she stayed in our room. Stella moved closer to us and I watched as she reached for Adira’s other hand. As soon as she touched Adira, I instantly felt Adira calm. I knew that Stella was the one doing this, as I stared at her, she gave me a nod. Stella had promised me that she would take care of Adira and she was doing just that. Blaze and Ali stepped to the side as Mr. Wilson was brought onto the stage and I watched Ali closely to make sure Adira was right about her. I could see that it was affecting her just as it was affecting Adira, but I could see that she now also saw the truth about her father. When Blaze and her both took their position in front of the steps, Blaze took her hand into his
Adira’s POV I knew that something felt off today and after Ali and I had returned to our rooms, I found myself an emotional wreck, which I knew was not like me. I knew how my father was and the words he had chosen to say to us were of no surprise, but here I was crying my eyes out. Thankfully, Stella came when I called her to my room and within seconds she verified what I had assumed. It wasn’t like I didn’t know this was a possibility after my heat and all the sex that Alpha Liam and I had over the last couple of days, but a part of me wishes that it would have held off one more heat so that I could be the one to make my father pay, myself, but it wasn’t meant to be. Now I had to hope that my mate would be the one to make him pay for all the wrong that he had done and stop this madness of the elders for the sake of our unborn pup and the future of our kind. When Liam entered our room, I remained staring out the window at the place my father would take his last breath and the pl
