Lana
Lucifer doesn’t say a word as we make our way back to my cabin, which gives me the chance to really take a good look at him. It has been weeks since I saw him, and my eyes are soaking in every inch of his masculine frame. His silky, dark hair is curled back in a trendy style, with the front being longer than the back, his dark eyes are shadowed by his long lashes, and his pouty lips are as luscious as I remember. If I had to categorize Lucifer, I’d say he’s a pretty boy with his Roman nose, high cheekbones and youthful features. Though his face may look young, his body is all man. At a couple of inches over six feet, he’s quite the specimen with his swimmer’s build and powerful aura. His chest is broad, his waist is narrow, and his legs are long and muscular. I can sing many praises to his firm ass and muscular arms. But what really catches my attention is his macho swagger. The man walks like he rules the world, which is really not far from the truth.
Tonight, he’s wearing a black Henley, dark blue jeans and scarred work boots. He definitely is a far cry from the rugged adventurer gear the guys at the camp wear. What amazes me is that he doesn’t look awkward or out of place. Actually, I don’t think Lucifer can ever look out of place anywhere.
Once we reach my cabin, I stop in front of the door and turn to face him. The evening dawns on the horizon, creating a halo around his dark locks. “Listen, Lucifer, though I took safety precautions, I really do appreciate you looking out for me back there.”
He nudges his chin in concession before he walks around me and opens the door. The man seriously has no sense of boundaries, which I guess is par to the course, considering who he is. Following behind him, I open my lips to reprimand him for his behavior but stop when I see that there’s a steaming bathtub brimming with bubbles sitting in the middle of my tiny cabin. Hoping that I’m not imagining things, I blink my eyes and approach the tub carefully. Lucifer stops beside me and waves his hand across the porcelain tub’s surface. “Your wish is my command, my lady.”
At a loss for words, I look back and forth between Lucifer and the tub. “What? How?”
Lucifer shrugs nonchalantly. “Don’t just stand there, luv. Get in.”
My heart flutters with excitement as I absorb the stream flowing around me. Without a thought, I slip off my boots and begin to unbutton my shorts. It’s only when Lucifer moves closer that I remember he’s still in the room. “Turn around,” I mutter.
He smirks. “Are you sure that’s what you want?”
I snort. “I mean, you can also leave and let me bathe in peace.”
Lucifer crosses his arms in front of his chest and shakes his head. “I don’t believe I want to do that.”
I sputter. “Fine, but either you turn around, or I don’t get in.”
Once he realizes that I won’t budge, he begrudgingly turns his broad back to me and stiffly grumbles. “You know, if it wasn’t for my power, you wouldn’t have this amazing bath. You are so bloody frustrating.”
I ignore his protests as I remove my clothes and submerge myself into the deliciously warm water. The pleasant scent of eucalyptus permeates the air, making me close my eyes and rest my head against the lip of the tub.
Looking back, I watch as Lucifer slips his sleeves up his powerful forearms, squats down beside the tub, and loosens my hair clip. My hair cascades behind the lip of the tub like a waterfall. “What are you doing?”
His beautiful lips tilt with amusement. “Do not be cross with me, luv. I’m not going to molest you; I’m just going to wash your hair.”
I gaze into his eyes and gauge his intent before I slide back on the tub and let him wash my hair.
I won’t pretend that it doesn’t feel amazing. I love the way he carefully slides his fingers through my hair, holds it over the tub, and pours water across each strand. He does this several times until my hair is completely wet, then pours lavender-scented soap across my hair and massages it gently into my scalp. It feels so good that I have to resist begging for him to do that to the rest of my body. His elegant fingers slide through my hair spreading the soap until I’m a pile of goo inside the tub. Once he’s done rinsing my hair, he pulls up a chair and sits next to the tub.
“Are you enjoying your bath, Luv?”
I nod my head and weave my fingers through the frothy bubbles. “It’s amazing. Thank you.”
Lucifer leans his elbow on top of the tub’s rim and snickers. “Why haven’t you ever been kissed before?” he asks.
I stiffen inside of the water. Of all of the things I expected Lucifer to say, this was not it. “What does it matter?” I evade his question.
His brow furrows. “It’s not like you’re a dreadful sow. In fact, you’re quite stunning, which is why I’m confused that you’ve never been kissed.”
I swallow down my despair as I consider how to respond. “When I was fourteen, my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Our dad was out of the picture, so it was up to us to take care of my mom, which wasn’t easy because we were so young. Because of this, it was hard to form any attachments. I had a few good friends who eventually drifted away when I continuously canceled on them. Then, the medical bills and rent came due, and we had to figure out a way to make money and care for our mom. While Bree worked to keep a roof over our heads, I stayed home and cared for my mom. Eventually, the cancer won out, and my mom died.”
His eyes become shadowed as he listens to my story. “It must have been a very difficult time for you and Bree.”
I flutter my fingers through the warm water and shrug. “It was, but at least I had my sister and Zoe.”
His jaw ticks. At this point, a normal man would give me some trite apology or empty words of condolence. But I should understand by now that Lucifer is not like any normal man. “It’s not too late to start now. I can make you feel pleasure if you’ll let me.”
Arching my brow, I give him an incredulous look. “Are you seriously hitting on me right now?”
His lip quirks. “I was just making an offer in case you were unsure of my intentions.”
He sounds so reasonably charming that I have to blink my eyes several times. The man definitely knows he’s irresistible.
My body heats with desire as I consider the situation that I am currently in. I’m literally sitting naked in a bathtub with fading bubbles talking to one of the most beautiful and notorious creatures in existence, and he’s offering to give me pleasure.
However, a small part of me can’t help but wonder why he’s here. The idea that he sees me as another notch on his headboard does occur to me, but I quickly dismiss it. This is Lucifer we’re talking about. With his looks and aura of power, women fall at his feet. Plus, the last time I was around him, he treated me as a nuisance. Of course, he flirts because that is who he is, but I can’t make sense of his pursuit.
“Why me?” I ask. “I get that you think I’m pretty, but it’s not like there aren’t any other pretty women in the world.”
Lucifer’s eyes glow red for a moment. It doesn’t scare me, but it does put me a little on edge.
Sitting forward, I gesture to the towel. “Can you please hand me the towel and turn your back again? I’m ready to get out.”
Without a word, he reaches for the towel and hands it to me before he turns his back. As carefully as I can, I rise from the tub, wrap the towel around me and step out of the tub. The water sloshes across the towel-covered floor as I reach for another towel and begin to dry my hair.
Lucifer steps forward and helps me. We’re standing so close that I’m intoxicated by his incredible scent of sandalwood and man. Lucifer’s so gentle with his ministration that I can’t help but figuratively melt in his presence. As he dries each strand, our covered chests touch slightly, making my heart thunder inside my chest.
Once he’s done drying my tresses, he moves his fingers across my jaw and lower lip, his eyes tracing every sensual movement. “I didn’t expect you,” he mumbles gruffly. “but there’s something about you…”
“What?” I murmur softly. “I don’t understand.”
At that moment, something strange occurs. A slight warmth stretches inside of my chest and neck until it reaches my face. My eyes feel odd, and my back begins to ache. Stumbling back, I rub my eyelids and roll my shoulders.
I look back at Lucifer, surprised to see that his face is free of any expression. Just as I am about to ask him what’s wrong, he takes a step back and announces. “I should go back to hell. Be careful when you run around out there. I can’t always guarantee that I’ll be around to catch you.”
Before I can reply, he and the tub vanish from sight.
Stunned, I walk up to my mirror and look at my reflection, but I don’t see anything. For a couple of minutes, I slump down on my bed and will my body to come down from its unfulfilled arousal. I spend the rest of the night analyzing his response and come up with very little. Needless to say, my sleep is restless and filled with strange dreams that feel too real. Come morning, I resolve to forget what happened between us. There’s no point in it, considering that I might never see him again.
Lucifer I enter my throne room and agitatedly pace around. Lana might not have been completely aware of it, but her angel was coming through. As soon as she asked me why I was pursuing her, her eyes began to glow, and her grace began to gleam across her body. For a moment, I found myself looking into Lana and her angel’s eyes. I could tell that Lana felt something as she began to change, but she was unsure of what it was. After Bree informed me of Lilith’s involvement in Lana’s unique situation, I researched why Lana’s angel lived as a human but found very little information. When I asked Lillith to tell me more, she spat in my face and told me to sod off.&n
Lana Rising early the next day, I heat up a breakfast sandwich and head out of my cabin to meet the rest of my group at the picnic tables. Since we arrived at the Canyon, we’ve agreed to eat as a team and talk about our findings. It’s a good way for us to connect with each other and diminish the feeling of isolation. I yawn with exhaustion as I step out of my door. I spent most of the night tossing and turning. And when I slept, my dreams were a mixture of oddly discomfiting dreams where I was having an unknown conversation with a glowing entity, and the other dreams starred me lying naked in a bathtub with a sexy devil. I growl at the reminder. In one of the dreams, Lucifer’s hands washed more than my hair. I s
Lucifer I look down at my mate’s crumpled form as she struggles with madness. She’s covered in demon blood, and her eyes are glowing like the sun. But there is no lucidity in that light. Despair, as I’ve never felt, fills me when she repeats the same phrase over and over again and claws at her delicate skin. “Lana, look at me…” I kneel down and gaze into her maddened eyes. “…please, look at me…” Lana is too far gone as blood pours from her lips, and she begins to gag. Seeing that she might die if I do not do anything, I place my hand over her head and make her insentient. As soon as I do, all of the tension leaves her body, and she collapses into a faint. Reaching down, I carefully lift her into my arms and flash us out of the cave. Unsure of what to d
Lana I look at my bloody hands and tighten them into fists as fire crawls across my skin. But I don’t burn, which is strange. Laughter roars from my lips as I stroll through a dark forest and run my fiery hands across the trees and the grass, lighting everything up. With each stroke of my hand, the grass burns and the trees turn to ash. It’s only when my sister, Bree, rushes toward me and the fire consumes her that screams of terror burst from my lips. That’s when I’m awakened from my nightmare. Shooting up from the bed, I clutch the cover tightly to my chest and look around the room, worried that I&
Lucifer Once I flash out of Lana’s room, I partially shift into my devil form and hone my senses until I reach the destination Azazel instructed me to go to. The earthquake occurred in the Arcata forest. Using my night vision, I try to find the entity that caused such havoc but see nothing. I land near a copse and look around for any signs of what it could have been until I reach a large section of the forest that looks like it was burnt to a crisp. The trees, dirt and grass around the ragged opening are scorched. Within minutes, Azazel and Mathias appear beside me. Mathias squats down and touches the scorched ground. The dirt glows where he touches it. He turns his hand and looks at his blood-soaked fingers. “What is
Lana I drag my feet this morning as I make my way to the communal dining space. Tony, Jill and Kyle are already sitting down at one of the tables. Jill and Kyle are talking and eating while Tony quietly gazes down at the open book in his hand. Sitting beside Jill, I become startled when she hands me a bag of cookies. Taking the bag, I give her a grateful smile. “What’s this?” She smiles back. “Just thought you could use a pick me up.” Kyle looks at the bag and scowls. “Hey, I want some.” Jill rolls her eyes and slaps hi
Lucifer I give Lana one last long look before I flash to my throne room. Thinking through my options, I send out several texts and evaluate everything Lana has shared with me. Lana is finally becoming aware of the angel living inside her, which, based on my conversation with Michael, concerns me greatly. If her angel is making itself know, then it’s becoming more powerful. I look through my tomes for answers as I consider all of the angles to this new revelation. Within a half-hour, Azazel, Fallon, and Michael appear in my throne room. All eyes turn to Michael as soon as he appears. Rising from my seat, I stop beside my brother and say, “Michael, this is my son, Fallon and one of my former demon lords, Azazel.”
Lana …Freedom comes at a price. I observe through my eyes helplessly as I repeat those words to Lucifer. I know that this is no nightmare, though. No, I can still feel everything, but I’m not longer in the driver’s seat of my body. Fractured emotions rush through my mind as I try to seduce Michael and threaten Lucifer. I want to scream for help, but I can’t. As I lie in wait, trapped in my own body, I begin to understand what I am. Flashes of what I thought were visions turn out to be memories. Fear overwhelms me when Lucifer asks the other me about the fires, and my vision begins to darken. A ball of ice spreads across my body, coating me with power as I see images of bloody oceans and every light in the sky dim until I’m in complete darkness. It’s only when I feel a familiar
Lucifer Fallon, my brothers Gabriel and Michael stand by me at the altar while Rafael prepares to officiate my wedding. Looking back, I adjust my tuxedo jacket and look onto our guests. At first, my brothers thought I was mad when I decided to propose to Lana, considering we’re already soulmates and we’re angels, but after I explained that I wanted her to be recognized as mine under every law, they relented. Lana and I decided to have a small ceremony in our home. We hired a planner who set up a wedding arch covered in sheer drapes and colorful flowers. The warm ocean breeze is gentle, and the platform we set up to seat our desks and the altar keeps the sand off our shoes. The wooden chairs are spaced out around the p
Lana I walk up the podium and accept my diploma with a happy grin before turning and facing my cheering family. Lucifer claps loudly while my crazy sister and Zoe jump up and down gleefully. Azazel and Fallon give them women a horrified look when their women start chanting my name. I love both women, but sometimes they can be so embarrassing. Over the past months, so much has happened. As Lucifer and I agreed, I went back to the Grand Canyon and finished my research with my team. They were none the wiser of what happened after I disappeared. Somehow, Michael made it, so the project was extended until I gathered all of the information that I needed.Bree was happy when I told her that I was moving in with Lucifer. His house
Lucifer “I’m sorry, Gabriel, but I don’t remember much about my sisters. Even in my visions, their faces were obscured by shadows. I don’t even know their human names. I just referred to them by their horsemen names. All I can tell you is that they were close to my age. The other had brown hair and oddly shaded eyes, and the other had red hair. The only thing they had in common is that they all seemed to be frightened of someone who wanted to hurt them. I don’t remember anything else. I’m sorry,” Michael sits forward in his seat and places his elbows on his knees thoughtfully. “We understand, chérie.” Rafael looks intently into the fireplace and frowns, “Perhaps we can speak to a witch. There might be a spell that can help us
Lana I grip Lucifer’s hand tightly as we stand outside my sister’s home. Lucifer told me that since my death, Bree and Azazel have frequently been stopping in to check on Bree. My heart beat’s wildly in my chest; I ring the doorbell and tap my foot as I wait for the door to open. Fallon opens the door with a smile that quickly turns to shocks when he sees me. “Lana?” he blinks fast as if he thinks he might be seeing things. “We can explain everything once you let us in?” Lucifer snickers. Fallon opens the door wide and gestures for us to walk in.&nb
Lucifer “No!” I cry out as I watch the love of my life stab herself in the heart and plunge into The Creator’s seal. Despair fills me as I rush to the chasm, but I know I will not get there in time. Bursts of light erupt around me, nearly blinding me as The Creator shatters to pieces like broken glass and is sucked into the void. I don’t care what happens after that as the power gets sucked back into the abyss. I follow the current of power as it drains, but I don’t see Lana anywhere. Within seconds the power sizzles out, and all that is left is darkness. “Lana!” I call out helplessly, “Lana, I’m here!” Unfortunately, the only sound that I hear is my voice echoing back t
Lana As soon as I move closer to the mele, my sisters halt their fighting and face me. “Stop, sisters! What we’re doing is wrong!” I call out pleadingly. “Traitor!” Death calls out as she launches herself toward me. We both collide in a clash of power. The others try to attack the men as they fight The Creator, but I circumvent them before they intervene. My sisters are strong, but I wield the ultimate power. When one slashes at my back, I roll away, barely avoiding her, skewering my spine. Unfortunately, she does manage to do some damage, but
Lucifer Lana’s form wavers before me as she watches her sister begin to plummet. I try to reach Fallon and Bree, but The Creator pulls them away. To my surprise, Lana catches Bree before she could fall and flies her to a safer spot. I don’t know what made her save Bree, but I don’t question it as I stab at the Creator’s talon and manage to seize Fallon from his hold. “Fallon,” I call to him as I desperately try to heal his wound. “I'm fine…” he sputters weakly as blood pours from his lips, “…he missed my heart.” Flying down, I set him next to Bree and turn to a confused Lana. Lana/ Apolliana My sisters and I stand on the cavern's edge located above a bast void that drops several thousand feet. Within the void is The Creator’s sacred stone covering the sacred seal. We hold our mates’ blood in a vile as The Creator adds his power and brings us one step closer to unleashing destruction into the world. Power radiates through the cavernous room, vibrating against the high ceilings. It’s so thick that you can almost touch it. Shadows flicker around the darkened chamber's sandstone surface, creating eerie figures across the rocky ceiling and earthy ground. Our voices echo through the vast openings that stream like veins creating an underground labyrinth that leads to yawning voids, cracks a
Lucifer I shoot up from my perch with a gasp and open my eyes as I search frantically for my mate. “Lana!” I call out. Unfortunately, all I see is the destruction of my house. A chandelier hangs precariously from the ceiling, furniture is turned over or broken, and all of my windows are shattered. My once gleaming hardwood floors are cracked and broken. Michael and Rafael stop beside me and give me grim frowns. “Where the bloody hell is she?” I ask. Michael shakes his head, “I don’t know, frère; she flashed out of the
