Serenity blinked once, twice, three times to clear the fog that seemed to have engulfed her brain all of a sudden. The darkness that surrounded her didn’t seem to help her disorientation and just as she tried to raise her hand to rub away some of it she realised they were in fact tied behind her back.
A gasp escaped her throat when reality began to set in. Confined in a dark room, tied to what felt like a wooden chair without any recollection of how she got there; she’d been kidnapped- again.
“What the fuck!” She burst out, thrashing wildly in the chair, but her muscles didn’t seem to have the same effect in reality as they did in her mind, “Fuck! Come on, Serenity, think. What’s the last thing you remember?”
Rackin
“What for?” Xander questioned patiently. His calm demeanour was hardly swayed by the woman bleeding out on the chair nearby. Vito’s eyes narrowed, “You know why.” He spat. “Of course, I just figured your prisoner ought to know the charges before her sentencing.” Xander shrugged and strolled towards the table lined with various bloodied weapons. “Why are you doing this?” Serenity breathed shakily, staring between both men with scared eyes. Any hope of being rescued from her cruel fate had flown out the door along with Xander’s sense. “Okay, I suppose I’ll just tell her myself then.” Xander spun on his heel, “Twenty five years ago the Don ordered a hit on a woman because he felt threatened by
“Where is he?” Xander asked Alonso, rolling up his sleeves as he walked into the warehouse.“In his office, awake.” Alonso smirked and Xander mirrored the cruel look, finding the whole situation quite fitting.“Good. Have you dealt with Albert Genino?”“Broke his legs and hand delivered him to his brother, he’ll know better than to step out of line.” Alonso chuckled at his own joke.“Send Lorenzo in when he gets here.” Xander ordered before opening the door to the office.“Yes, Don.” Was the last thing he heard before the rest of the world fell away a
When Serenity woke a second time, the world had turned dark. If it hadn’t been for the tiniest bit of light seeping through the gaps in the blinds, she wouldn’t even have caught sight of the man with his back to her.Staring at the back of Xander’s wide shoulders, she wondered what he was doing there. Apart from saving her life from his sociopath of a father, she didn’t think they were on speaking terms after the way he left things.“What are you doing here?” She murmured.Xander’s body tensed at the sound of her voice, he’d always loved the breathiness of it when she woke. Turning on his heel, he offered her small smile as he approached the bed, “You’re awake.” He stated.
“Home sweet, home.” Matteo grinned when they stepped off Xander’s Jeep.“Let’s make a deal, you two sleep in your own beds for the foreseeable future.” Lorenzo remarked sarcastically and the siblings shared a look.“Of course he wouldn’t include himself in that.” Serenity smirked wickedly.“Yeah, otherwise how else will he get any TLC from the good doctor?” Matteo added teasingly.“Maybe he’ll make an appointment at the hospital?” Serenity and Matteo continued to tease as they walked into the house.“Bet he’ll rate her eleven
“I’d like to make a toast.” Lorenzo said loudly, halting all conversation when he raised the shot of tequila between his fingers, “To a man I’m sure we can all agree was the best of us. Darrio, brother, wherever in the universe may be, know not a day will go by without us missing you. To Darrio.” “To Darrio.” They echoed and simultaneously threw back the foul tasting liquid. “Do you remember for his eighteenth birthday he blackmailed us into sneaking him your dad’s most expensive bottle of Bourbon?” Xander chuckled. Matteo cackled, “Yeah, he polished the bottle and almost fell off the roof.” “The next day he made me fill it up with tea and put it back in the cabinet so you guys wouldn’t get caught.” Serenity grinned. “Seriously? I always wondered how Dad never found out.” Lorenzo’s eyes widened and Serenity nodded. “You were right, he was the very best of us.” Xander mused, looking at the condensation running down the glass with keen interest. “I never told him I loved him
A soft knock on the door dragged Serenity’s attention from the contract on the screen.“Come in.” She called, not bothering to clean up the mess of papers scattered around her. Vito’s little kidnapping stunt had put her almost two weeks behind schedule at work and she had tons of paperwork to get through before she could get some shut eye.“Hey, can we talk?” Enzo’s nervous voice carried through the room and Serenity’s eyes snapped to him.“Sure, I can spare a minute.” She nodded curtly, removing the pair of spectacles perched on the bridge of her nose.“You wear glasses?” His eyebrows shot up in surprise.&
“You’re here.” Xander breathed a sigh of relief when he opened the door to reveal the dark-haired beauty, “I didn’t think you would.” He admitted uncertainly.“I said I would be.” She replied with a tight smile, handing him a bottle of red wine from Giovanni’s collection.“You didn’t have to.” He smiled at the gesture and stepped aside, “Come on in.”“Something smells delicious.” Serenity commented as she shrugged off her leather jacket.“I made Lamb Ragú, I hope that’s okay?” The uncertainty in Xander’s eyes had yet to diminish.
“My brother invoked the code to save my life.” Serenity could hardly wrap her head around it. The way Xander spoke of the brotherhood made it seem like a sacred code, the type of thing that could save one’s life.“He did and I drove him to it.” Xander admitted miserably, “He has every right to hate me and to blame me.” He smiled sadly, looking Serenity in the eye.“But he doesn’t.” Serenity frowned, “Not really, regardless of what he said.”Xander shook his head, “He only said that to make you happy, because he knows as long as you think we’re on good terms you will be happy.”“That’s bullshi
