She'll cry one more time tonight, hoping it's the last

and I'll lie beside her, a thousand miles apart

shedding the same tears, knowing it's not.

Aryan opened his apartment door and dragged his feet inside, quite late in the night.

He went straight to shower and let the hot water singe and sear his wound... he really didn't care. This was nothing compared to the deeper and invisible wounds that were inflicted on him all those years ago, which never healed.

To say that events of that day drained him emotionally would be an understatement.

After Chandni left, he spent an hour just lying on the sofa inhaling the faint perfume and smell she

Chandni didn't realise how long she was on the washroom floor, crying and sobbing, before all her tears dried out. She slowly gathered herself and crept into her bed. She cuddled the soft pillow, but it felt cold and lifeless.Till the day she met Aryan again, she felt nothing but peace with her situation. Her life was placid, well protected and she felt content in her own small world with Vikram, Atharv, Rashid Chacha and Nargis Chachi. Just like before, Aryan stormed into her life, turning it upside down and made her lose control over her life, her surroundings and now more importantly her career too. His words and deeds raked all the deep wounds that she safely kept hidden from everyone, for she knew there was no point in ruing over something that was gone, forever from her life. But his presence back in her life only reiterated the fear she always had, deep down, which she never wanted to acknowl

"I would drop that weapon of yours, if I were you" said a husky voice. Chandni felt a shiver of panic but the thug didn't do much except to immobilise her and that voice suddenly sounded familiar. Chandni's newly acquired defence skills never got a chance to be put into practice as a new wave of sensations hit her. A smell and feel of someone she would recognise even in her sleep. "Chandni, it's just me. Can you please lower your weapon of mass destruction?" Aryan chuckled in her ear from behind. Chandni slowly released her breath that she didn't even realise she was holding back till then, as the tension in her whole body came down gradually. She turned around to face him with her flushed face. "Aryan! You freaked me ou

A Stony silence ensued for a few moments before Chandni exclaimed with a gasp. "Oh my god, look at the time!! I should have been home a long time ago. Gosh!! Atharv.... he must be whinging!!" She hastily pulled out her mobile and called home. "Chachi, it's me. I am so sorry I just got held up here in the office. How is Atharv? Did he finish his dinner? I promised him I will read him a story tonight and forgot all about it. Has he gone to bed already?" Chandni asked a barrage of questions anxiously. Aryan watched in astonishment the change in her demeanour, from a feisty girl ready to give back the best retort to that of a concerned mother, her face full of love for her child. "Oh... Ok. He is already asleep. No, that's absolutely fine. Thanks, Chachi.

There's a thread that connects us, regardless of what separates us, regardless of how intent we are to sever it. -- Leo Christopher Aryan and Chandni slowly walked towards the lift after locking up the office. Chandni made sure she called Nargis Chachi and informed that she would be arriving home later, after finishing dinner and was thankful that Chachi didn't ask too many questions. Chandni felt weird again, going in the empty lift, now with Aryan but the previous awkwardness at least wasn't there. But the lift suddenly felt smaller, warmer as if Aryan was taking up the whole space. Chandni moved to a corner and finally dared to look into Aryan's face. Aryan too was looking at her keenly, and responded sudden

"Chandu, I hope you trust me enough, even after all these years, at least on one thing. I consider marriage a sacred bond. That is why, how much ever my heart longed to see you, I never tried to meet you again, not to disturb your blissful life, as you have finally found someone you could spend the rest of your life with. And I would never ever cross my line when I am with you since you are a married woman, no matter what happened between us, all those years ago." Aryan's words held so much pain and love that Chandni replied in a gush. "I trust you, on that for sure. I swear to god I am being honest with you Aryan! There was a time, when I was too bitter and wallowing in self-pity that I did hate everything that happened between us. But it was only for a short while. But I never thought like that again. My time with you

Chandni and Aryan both looked confusedly at a Mumbai Police Constable, who rapped once again on the window, and rudely signalled to them to get out of the car. Aryan cursed himself for getting lost in his memories and not noticing the time. It has become very customary for the police in these public tourist places to get rid of parked vehicles after late hours, harass the public to pocket some extra money by laying false charges for parking, or even become moral police, by objecting to young people being seen together in public etc. "Chandni, you stay inside, sometimes these guys can be very obnoxious." Aryan opened the car door slowly but Chandni didn't pay heed to his advice and got out of the car from the other end as she looked at the constable defiantly, much to Aryan's exasperation.

The mighty Brigadier of Indian Army may have left active field service to become the Director General of Acquisition and Procurement at DGQA, (Service Headquarters) but his gaze and manners were still as sharp as ever. "You can see for yourself when he comes here later." The person opposite replied casually, his Cigar still in his mouth, even though out of flame. "By the way how and why did you meet him in Goa?" he asked, after a brief pause. Avinash took his time before answering. He asked for his old friend's cigar but got r

Raj Singh and Vikram entered the spacious chamber of Avinash Thakur. As Vikram did the introduction, which was followed by casual chit chat, Avinash assessed the man before him. In his long Military career with the latter years spent as a Judge, Avinash had a knack to assess people quickly and find out what makes them tick, what triggered the right response from them. He could see that Raj Singh was a highly emotional man and took pride in the fact that he was a self-made man, and was slightly temperamental too. He could also sense that Raj Singh felt a bit self-conscious in the company of the military men on either side. Avinash brought out seldom used charming manners, became more cordial than necessary and ensured that Raj Singh was put to ease. "Raj Singh Ji, Vikram and I go back a long way. When I knew that he bought your company which manufactures trans

For the first time the confident smile on Dev's face faltered. "Hmm Yes I think so Mrs. Bharadwaj. But if there is anything he does that you don't like, and you are too shy to tell him directly, maybe I can help you?" He looked hopefully at her. The waiter hovered around them, hoping they would order. "It's your choice!!" Dev handed over the menu to her. Chandni didn't bother to open it. She looked sweetly at the waiter and asked, "What are your signature dishes for entrees and mains here?" The waiter went through a long list of delectable dishes, which as per his recommendation were most sought after. Chandni randomly picked a few and asked them to be served as quickly as p

It was almost Seven pm and Dev had booked their dinner at Eight. Chandni opened the suitcase that Dev brought along with him, which was supposed to have all her clothes that she packed in Mumbai. But to her horror, it was practically empty except for some new underwear and casual clothes. As she made a thorough search to see if any of her clothes were in other suitcases, She recalled all the events of the afternoon After dumping their luggage at the hotel, they had a leisurely lunch, and strolled around the streets of shopping markets. Dev insisted on going back to the same shop where she bought the shorts she wore to the airport, and buy every combination of shorts and casual tops there, as he said "it made you look like a local and the 18-year-old I married." But Chandni suspected otherwise, the way his hungry

Why are you saying you don't want to come and stay with me? I am hurt... deeply hurt! We are friends, remember!! Goa is seriously boring! All you do is sit in front of the beach and stare at waves! Chandni and Aryan entered with breakfast tray. "Aaah!! Mr. and Mrs. Bharadwaj! And with breakfast for me! I should thank my lucky stars huh!!" He cheered them jovially. Chandni took the letter with trembling hands and began to read. ============================ Hi Vikram, By the time you read this letter, I am probably gone from your life, and this world. "I know Sanjayji, what wonders women can do, to turn our family life into a bliss. But I also knew what kind of people my relatives were, Renu didn't!” Vikram rubbed his eyes and sighed. “ They would pass snide remarks about her to my father and other relatives or bring up the topic of her family just to unsettle her. Her nervousness only made things worse, as it made all of us suspect that she was hiding something from us. She began to have trouble sleeping and I took her to the doctors who ordered her to do some lifestyle changes, exercises and also prescribed some sleeping pills, but requested her to use them as a last resort. She became fidgety and moody as time went on. I asked her plainly one day, was there anything I needed to know? She flatly denied that she was hiding anything from me but was hurt that I am not trusting her word. She accused me that I was trying to spy on her, which made me
