Akosua was in her seventh month of pregnancy and Kwame had begun acting funny. He normally returned home late or drunk and he always had one flimsy excuse or another. He had changed, he didn't treat her the same way he used to treat her before and he didn't spend quality time with his girls, Akosua and Maakua.
“Are you okay Akosua?" Abena tapped her friend on the shoulder as she entered the classroom.
“Hmm, no Abena I'm not." She honestly said.
“What's the problem?" She asked her friend.
“Its Kwame oo, Abena, mennim nea 3k)so oo, Kwame Boateng asesa( I don't know what's going on, Kwame has changed)." She told her friend.
“Calm down dear, maybe it's due to work stress." She told her.
“Abena, he comes home very late at night, most at times drunk or with the excuse of working late and there's always a smell of women perfume on his clothes." She added.
“Take it easy, it may not be what yo
“Akosua, where are you and Maakua, I'm home and no one is around. I called Ma, but she isn't answering. Kamdyn and Kwabena won't tell me where you girls are. Where is my daughter?" He asked angrily“Kwame, meny3 ready for ntokwa biara( I'm not ready for any trouble). We've been at 37 military hospital for a week, I've been calling your phone it's either switched off or no answer. Maakua is sick, you can come to see her when you like, tchew." She said as she dropped the call and went back inside the ward.Maakua was doing better than before but the doctor wanted to monitor her progress so she had been admitted. Kwabena, Kamdyn, Abena, Adwoa and her mother-in-law had come over to visit the little girl during the week. Her mother-in-law stayed there with her to watch over the girl.Kwame changed his clothes and then prepared his daughter's favourite, jollof rice with gizzard, garnished with vegetables, and also got her a pack of vitamin drink.
Maakua came out of her room looking for her stepmom. She had wanted to show her something she was watching on her tablet.“Ma, come and see--" She stopped midway as she found her mom lying on the floor with blood oozing from her legs.“Ma!" She shook Akosua but to no avail.“Auntie Adwoa, mom is not walking up!" Maakua called as Adwoa turned off the stove and hurried to the parlour.“Maakua, get me her car keys now!" Adwoa panicked as she called the security man to help her put Akosua in the car.“Maakua!"Adwoa called again as the girl brought her the keys and locked the house joining them in the car as they drove to the hospital, as soon as they got to Ridge hospital, the nurses rushed her into the theatre.“Call your dad," Adwoa whispered as Maakua called him. It rang for a while and he still wasn't answering. She tried for a couple of times before he finally picked out of breath.&ldq
“Auntie," Akosua called to the woman who raised her. “Aw, me ba(My child), it shall be well, take heart." The elder woman said sitting beside her.“I hope so, I really do." She said as her aunt wiped her eyes.“Where's your husband?" Her uncle asked entering with a basket of food.“I dunno, " She stated.“Is everything alright between you two?" He asked again.“He changed." She said as Maakua entered the ward with her grandmother.“My in-laws, you're welcome." The woman greeted.“Thank you." Her aunt said.“Ma, I brought your favourite ice cream, grandma says it would help you feel better." She handed it to her as she pulled her towards her and hugged her tightly.“Thanks, Sweetheart," Akosua added.Kwame had made his cheating evident to his wife. He no longer treated her right and always came back with lipstick stains on his shirt or half-used condoms in his pocket. She no longer was happy in her home. She found solace in the little girl and her work.“Eleanor, do you know the man yo
“Kwame, what's going on? You've refused to eat my food for the past to weeks what's the matter?" Akosua asked one night after preparing dinner after coming home from work exhausted. Only for her food to be rejected again.“Maame, ma men dwene me ho oo, ( Woman, let me be), oh so you think I don't know you killed my babies with your bad luck and evil omen. You're a which that's what you are." He shouted at her.“In fact, leave my house baayifo) (Witch!)" He shouted packing her stuff.“Kwame, where is all this coming from?" She asked shocked.Just yesterday we were all lovey-dovey and even shared a passionate night together after being sex starved ever since the incidence. Who is polluting my husband's mind? She thought to herself as Kwame pushed her out of the room.Maakua heard the noise from her parent's room. The 10-year-old child was intelligent and smart even when she had not been told anything, she knew her parent's marriage was failing.“Da, what is going on?" She asked as she me
Akosua and Maakua had been hoping Kwame would come back to his senses and come for them. Even if he didn't want her, at least he could come and check up on his daughter. But he did none of that. She had heard he had gone for another woman whom he was living with.“Ma, how are we going to survive without Da?" Maakua asked her stepmother at dinner one night.“My dear, we will be fine, very much fine. I have money saved up from years back and besides, I work. And my salary is enough to cater for us both." She told the girl.“How about my school fees?" She asked knowing how expensive that was.“Don't worry dear, that's why I've applied for the scholarship for you. If you get it, it will take you through to Senior High, now that you're in primary 5." She explained to the girl.Because of how intelligent and smart she was, she skipped primary four and was promoted to primary five.“Maate(I've heard you), Ma." She said as she proceeded to wash the dishes.“Ei, Eleanor so you didn't listen to
“My dear, your mother called." He said to his niece as she sat beside him. Akosua had gone to the village with Maakua on the weekend. Her uncle had sent for her because he had important news for her.“Na )se3 dien( What did she want)?" Akosua asked chewing groundnuts. “Hmm, the woman pursuing your husband is your own younger sister Eleanor." He said as she sat quietly for a while.“So the little brat has finally grown wings er? To drag my husband with me" She slyly smiled.“My dear, don't go and cause any ruckus, " Her uncle said knowing how she can react when she's angry.“I'm not going to cause any ruckus uncle, I just want to pay them a visit, nothing more or less." She smiled.“If you say so." Her uncle added. It wasn't as if he cared about what would happen to her but he was concerned about the wellbeing of his niece.“Ma, I'm back," Maakua added as she dropped her small basket in the kitchen. She went to the farm with her grandma, Akosua's aunt.“You welcome dear, how was the fa
“Nii, Kpa(Stop it)" Adwoa said as he splashed water on her. She had come to visit him in his house since he had nothing to do at home. She hadn't gotten any clients yet after her last one which was last week.“Erm... Daabi(No)." He stuck out his tongue.“Nii, lah." She said trying to get up as he held her waist preventing her from moving.“Adwoa lah." He mimicked. As her lips twitched. He pulled her inside the pool to join her for a swim.He had liked her way back in school but he didn't get the balls to ask her out but the couple of weeks they had spent together rekindled those old feelings. Aku was just a fling or, lust but not true love. He drew her closer to him as he kissed her waiting for her reaction. She pulled his head closer and kissed him more passionately. “Adwoa, would you be my girl?" He asked.“Finally, I will I've waited for this since school days." She blurted.“Excuse me say what?" He asked shocked.“Manka hwe ( I didn't say anything)." She said swimming away from h
“Esi is there any problem? Aha yi nso er ( What are you doing here)?" She asked her. She had gone out of her class to visit the loo and met her younger cousin with a couple of people.“Sister Akosua, there's no problem. I just came to escort my friend to meet her elder sister for a parcel." She explained. Esi was in her third year of university, she was currently studying Pharmacy at University of Ghana, Legon in the Greater Accra region of Ghana.“Okay, dear, " Akosua added as she called her to her class and gave her Gh¢500.00 for upkeep.“Thank you very much, Sister Akosua, my God will bless you for me," Esi added.“Amen dear, go well and study hard okay?" She advised.“I will, just for you p3." She teased her cousin waving her goodbye.“Have you finished with the work I gave you?" She asked her students.“Yes, Madam!" The kids shouted.“Okay, let's continue." She said.Abena's class had a substitute teacher since she was almost due in a few weeks. And Akosua was genuinely happy for
“ Ms Eleanor Quansah is sentenced to life imprisonment for planning the attempted murder of Mrs Akosua Boateng and also almost defrauding a Mr Kwame Boateng by selling his house without his concern. I rest my case." The judge hit his gavel declaring his judgement. Eleanor was being pushed out of the courtroom as the paparazzi took pictures of her and asked her questions.“What are your last words?" One of them asked. My mother, money and greed killed me. For the young ones out there be careful about what you wish for, it might be the death of you." Eleanor said as the walked out.Todd was helpless as the police dragged him to the police station. He was too cautious about being caught that he didn't realise when the police located him. It was a dead-end for him.Oh if I could turn back the hands of time.He lamented. The police took him in their jet as they flew him back to Ghana. When they reached the Kotoka internat
“Young woman, the man you married is the cause of your childlessness, you have t o seek God's intervention before it's too late." A young pastor said to Serwaa. She had parked her car in front of a supermarket and was getting stuff for her baby.“Ɛii, asɔfofoɔ aa moaba,sɛi aa na afɛ no aso, kyerɛsɛ wahu sɛ me wɔ sika nti no, me kunu yɛ sika adro, fi maniso kɔ ee (Prophets of doom, you've seen I'm a rich woman and so you're claiming my husband does money rituals, leave my sight)."She said to him.“Woman had I known is always at last." He said and walked off. She shrugged him off and continued with her shopping with no care in the world.“Kwesi, nansa niɛ aa wo piɛ afeɛ na wo ba (Kwesi, it's been three days you left and you're now coming)?"Aku asked as he walked into the house.“Madam Slay queen, do you think I would stay with you, having sex with you isn't interesting m
~ A few months later~Akosua rushed to the bathroom to puke her guts out. She had been feeling a little sick for a couple of days now.“Ma, ɛden na,ɛye wo(Mom, what's wrong with you)?" Maakua asked.“I don't feel too well." She told the girl as Kwame came from the kitchen.“What is it?" He asked spotting his wife's pale face.“I don't feel too good." She admitted.“We need to go see a doctor," Kwame said.“But you have to go to the house today, today's the day that evil woman leaves once and for all." She determined.“Don't worry dear, I've made Kwabena pose as the buyer, I would join him after we get back," Kwame added.“Alright love." She smiled at him. She was glad she was getting her home back.“Maakua, I'm taking your Mom to the hospital so do take care of the house," Kwame instructed.&
“Morning ɔdɔ(Morning love)" Kwame greeted Akosua who lay beside him peacefully. He had spent the night with her when he came visiting the previous day. They were sneaking around like two teenagers in love. “Hey, how was your night?" She lay smiling at her. “It was wonderful, I enjoyed you." He added moving close to kiss her as she moved her head. “Morning breathe." She added as she walked towards the bathroom to brush her teeth. It read 4:30 am. He had to prepare for work and drop Maakua at school. Even though she was well, the school had given her a two week grace period before she resumed. Akosua came out of the bathroom and headed to Maakua's room. She would sleep the whole day if she didn't wake her up. “Maakua" Akosua called knocking on the door as she opened it. She had just emerged from the shower when she heard her mother's knock on the door. “Good morning, darling you don't look good." She said to her. “I think I've started my menses, I saw blood in my underwear when I
“What is happening with my kids at all? Why did Todd decide to move to the Northern region all of a sudden? I know my son, there's something he's not talking about. And Eleanor too, what is she up to now that her name is almost everywhere?" Baafi asked herself sitting on her couch. Father, come to our aid. She silently prayed. Serwaa had finally given birth to her baby, that's what most people thought. They had finally adopted the one-week-old baby after a week of her fake delivery. Her mother had come to stay with them and was taking care of the baby girl, surprisingly, she looked like Leo. Yaa and Maabena turned the music on a little louder. They had gotten more money than they used to get before and they were excited. “The club isn't the best place to find a lover So the bar is where I goMe and my friends at the table doing shotsDrinking fast and then we talk slowCome over and start up a conversation with just meAnd trust me I'll give it a chance nowTake my hand, stop, p
“Hey," Kwame said as Akosua opened the door for him. “Hi, good morning" She responded ushering him inside. “Da!" Maakua called as she hugged her dad. It was a Saturday morning and he decided to come to check on them after his morning run. “Sweety, ɛtɛsen( How are you)?" He asked his daughter. Akosua was still sleepy so she retired back to bed leaving her husband and daughter to bond. “I'm fine Daddy." She answered. “Hey, let's do something for mom, she seems tired," Kwame suggested. “She stressed herself too much yesterday, that's why," Maakua confessed. Kwame and Maakua entered the kitchen to prepare food for Akosua. Eleanor checked the news headlines and once again she was on the front page. The caption read, " Eleanor Quansah is a gold digger" It further said: Eleanor found her way into Tullow Oil not to work but have an agenda of her own. She had an agenda before applying for a position at Tullow Oil, you want to know what her agenda was? Well, she had planned to seduce t
“Aidah, are you sure you know him that well to fall for him. For Christ sakes, you met him three days ago and you're already professing love? What if he's a criminal in disguise or has done something terrible and is on the run?" Kisiwaa, her best friend asked. “Kisiwaa, he's not a criminal, he's a sweet charming young man and isn't like any of my exes. I'm a successful 28year old woman. I'm rich, I have my own apartment here and houses in other regions, all I need is a man to share all of this with." Aidan told her. “I know Aidah, but be careful," Kissiwaa advised as she continued with her meal. “But Aidah, wanka ankyere me nea asiii wo ne Kent ntamu aa mogyae mepenna twe no ( You never told me what happened between you and Kent that led to your breakup)," Kissiwaa said. “Kissiwaa, asem wei na wɔ bɛ bɔ so no( Kissiwaa, is this what you want to talk about)?" Aidah asked her. “Yes, I want to know." She firmly added. “What really happened was that... Kent and I met long before we st
Akosua was being discharged from the hospital that day. Kwame was coming to take her to her house. He had told her his plans of getting rid of Eleanor, and until she was out of his house she had to stay with Maakua at her house and he promised to come see them every other day. “Da, I hope you stick to your promise, no browning(disappointment)," Maakua added as he initiated a curve. “I would stick to my promise dear, no fake promises, I've come to my senses." He told her. “It's good you did." She said earning a knock from her mother. “Ajeei(Ouch) Ma," She whined. “Fiii, fiii, is that how to talk to your father?" She asked. “Da I'm sorry." She pouted. “Its fine dear." He chuckled, forcing himself not to laugh. “Thanks for dropping us home and thanks for everything," Akosua said. “No need to thank me, I'm trying to make things right. I've regretted everything I did. I hope you find it deep within to forgive me." He pleaded. “Its fine Kwame, I've forgiven you already." She smile
“Ah, Eleanor why have you scattered my house like that? Do I owe you? Are any of your belongings here? Ha, what sort of life is that you better be very very careful. Be careful so you don't incur my anger or else you wouldn't like it." He fumed walking into the bedroom. He had come home to pick a few things and net his house in that state. He opened his safe and took all his important documents including that of the house and left a fake copy of the house documents in his drawer.Unknowingly to her, Nelson was Kwame's informant. He told him every move that Eleanor had taken. But he decided to play along, waiting to catch her redhanded.“Kwame I was trying to clean the house, nothing more or less, by the way, where are you going to?" She asked.“I have a conference and the venue is quite far from home so I'm stating at Kwabena's place until it's over. I'd see you in the office tomorrow." He said.“But you have a conference?" She ask
