Chapter 82

Zoey didn’t return home even though she was a little exhausted.

Hailing a cab, she absentmindedly gave the driver an address. It wasn’t that late yet and businesses were open an hour later during the weekends.

Her heels had been rubbed sore; the skin on the area had blistered and bled. She took off her high heels and walked barefoot down the street, not feeling any particular discomfort other than from the chill.

Finding a café, she randomly ordered a drink and sat inside for about half an hour.

She requested a hair tie from a café staff and tied up her damp hair, exposing her clear and delicate face. Her red lips contrasted starkly against her fair skin.

She sat in the café right until its closing time before she put her shoes back on, getting ready to leave.

Laurence called her. She stared at her lit phone screen and waited until the call ended on its own, not making any move to answer it.
