CHAPTER 243
"Thank you for your time, I hope we can work together to improve Alpha Company in the future."
Christine ended the conversation. They shook hands after enjoying lunch together. Alicia, who was still standing at her desk, watched Christine and Felix leave. They were getting farther away, and became invisible as they passed through the door.
One hand reaching into her jacket pocket, she examined Anna Parker's business card and read it carefully. After a moment's thought, Alicia pulled out a cell phone from another pocket and called Nicholas.
It took a few moments before Nicholas finally received the call.
"Nick! Where are you right now? Can we meet? There's something very urgent."
[...]
"Alright. Let's meet at Town Square, my location is quite close to that building. See you then."
Since it was only a few minutes away from the restaurant, Alicia decided to run to Town Square. The place where she and Nicholas had promised to meet. Without waiting long, Alicia could see Nicholas' car coming towards her standing on the side of the road. Alicia waved and Nicholas pulled over.
Before Nicholas could turn off the engine, Alicia had already jumped into the car.
Nicholas gasped, he had just finished unbuckling his seat belt. "Why did you come in? I thought we were going to talk here."
"No, Nick. We'll talk as we go." Nicholas frowned in confusion, but Alicia immediately pulled out Anna's business card. "Do you know about this? A person named Anna, worked for my mother for five years. She was my mother's personal secretary, but she didn't live in the company."
There was a small murmur from Nicholas. He took the business card handed to him by Alicia and tried to observe it. "Anna? I met her a few days ago." Alicia's eyebrows shot up. "Noel and I went to check, and well, she said some things well."
"Do you know how close she was to my mom?"
Nicholas handed back the business card. She nodded her head, then turned the wheel, heading back to the main road leaving the side streets. While watching the road, Nicholas explained again, "I heard they are close, but they only talk about the company. Anna has worked for more than five years, but she works for two bosses. Felix knows about it too, but he only seems to know about the things she does in the office. I think there's a rivalry between Felix and Anna. Anna isn't open about her work either."
Alicia held the business card tightly. There was a puzzle piece inside, and Alicia was guessing where she could find the missing piece. She looked out the window, then back at Nicholas. "Christine is the deputy CEO, she's quite close to my mom, but she also only deals with work. But strangely, Christine said that Anna had visited my mother's house."
Nicholas' eyebrows furrowed, he was quite surprised. "Is that such a strange thing?"
"It is strange, Nick. No one else knew about my mother and father's private home. My mom always gives out the old home address for deliveries and stuff because they are very private. Even Christine admits that none of the office staff have ever visited, or even known where my mom's house is."
"But Anna knew and even visited your mom's house."
"That's the problem, Nick!"
Nicholas pressed his tongue against his mouth and looked out the window. The city streets were still as busy as ever. But Nicholas' gaze only focused on the asphalt that was being repaired. He slammed on the brakes a lot to avoid getting stuck in the potholes on the broken asphalt.
"Do you intend to see Anna?"
Alicia nodded quickly, she looked at Nicholas determinedly. Putting Anna's business card back into her jacket pocket, Alicia fastened her seatbelt and looked confidently at the road ahead.
"Yes. I want to see him myself. I want to know what my mother told me that led her to bring Anna to her house."
Nicholas nodded in agreement. There was no request Alicia could refuse. He turned the wheel and hit the brakes under his feet in a hurry. While overtaking several vehicles, Nicholas tried to reach the Star Corporation as quickly as possible.
They arrived at the Star Corporation in the late afternoon. Alicia had spent a lot of time in the restaurant, she couldn't possibly send Christine and Felix away, so waiting for her two guests took up a lot of time. Alicia looked at the clock on her left hand when she got out of Nicholas' car.
"It's after work in general, can we see Anna?"
Nicholas, who was standing by the door, saw Alicia on the other side. He looked around, people were coming out of the building. The crowd greeted them. But Nicholas tried to build a sense of optimism within himself in order to calm Alicia down. Nicholas said, "We should check it out ourselves, we should go in now, maybe we still have hope of meeting Anna."
"Okay."
Alicia walked with Nicholas. This was not the first time for Nicholas, so he was already familiar with the entrance route to the Star Corporation. He was walking in the opposite direction, when the employees of the company were leaving the building. It was late afternoon and it was office hours, Anna would have gone home and joined those people, but Alicia still wanted to try.
"Excuse me, can we see Anna Parker?"
Nicholas asked the receptionist at the front desk. The woman was also preparing to leave, it was shift change time.
"Anna Parker?" The woman took off the nameplate on her chest that read Charlotte. "Didn't you meet her yesterday? We met here yesterday, didn't we?"
Nicholas nodded in the affirmative. He grinned, then looked at Alicia. "This girl wants to meet Anna Parker. Anna works with this girl's mother," Nicholas said, then tapped Alicia on the shoulder. "Can you help me meet Anna Parker today? I Have something to do with her."
CHAPTER 244Charlotte looked at the two people before her in confusion. She dropped the LV bag on her shoulder and placed it on the table. Smacking her lips, she picked up the phone on the corner of the table and started typing in numbers. But after waiting for a while, Charlotte put the phone back on the table and looked at Nicholas. Shrugging her shoulders, she said, "Sorry, Detective. But it looks like Anna has left the room. She's not picking up the phone." Charlotte picked up her bag again, slinging it over her shoulder. "I have to go home too, it's shift change time. You can talk to the next receptionist. She'll be here in five minutes.""Thank you for your information.""Sure. See you soon, Detective."Charlotte waltzed away in her usual coquettish fashion. And that made Alicia knit her forehead deeply. She watched Charlotte as she crossed her arms over her chest."Looks like you're close?" Alicia quipped.Nicholas laughed at that. He pinched Alicia's cheek and said, "Don't be
CHAPTER 245"So... Ace is not proven to have killed my parents?"Nicholas pursed his lips. It was a very difficult thing to say. He hated Ace so much. He wanted Ace to be involved in the murder of Alicia's parents so that Alicia would hate Ace too. But apparently, Ace did not kill Michelle and Edward. One of Alicia's hands moved to touch Nicholas' coat. She shook it slowly, and said, "Nicholas, please tell me what you know. It's about my parents' deaths."A sigh was heard from Nicholas. The man really couldn't be evasive anymore. "Ace was not involved in your parents' murder. Ace's nail samples don't match the DNA or fingerprints we found at your mother's house."Alicia's face wore an expression that Nicholas couldn't guess. Alicia arched an eyebrow, looking confused and disappointed, but Nicholas could find relief there. Did Alicia still have feelings for Ace? A man from the past?"You're... happy that Ace didn't kill your parents?"Nicholas' question made Alicia flinch. She frowned
Chapter 246"Chief Nicholas!"The voice broke Nicholas and Alicia's focus. Especially when they both found Hendrick waving and walking towards them. There was nothing Nicholas could do when Hendrick finally joined the same table as him. Nicholas had to act casual so that Hendrick wouldn't get suspicious."Hello, Alicia. You're here too. Are you guys on a date?"Alicia and Nicholas exchanged glances. Without saying anything, Alicia could tell right away that she had to keep her mouth shut. She had to keep her secret so Hendrick wouldn't get suspicious.Nicholas answered immediately. "We were hanging out around here, and decided to pay a visit to Fast Coffee." He looked at Alicia, giving her the code to nod her head. Alicia obeyed, she did Nicholas' covert request. "What are you doing in the office, Hendrick?""I'm just finishing up the report for Jason's case, the testimony from Mrs. Winchester yesterday will be included in the written report. That's a big clue."Nicholas nodded in agr
CHAPTER 247The field forensic team did a good job, the bodies of Jason's wife and two sons were removed from the coffin. All team members were fully dressed. They lifted the bodies out of the crates using latex gloves to avoid leaving any traces behind. The condition of the three of them was worse than Jason himself. Their bodies were hideous and the smell was unpleasant as soon as the crate was opened. After removing the decomposing bodies, the forensic team put them in body bags and they took them to the hospital.Because the smell was so foul, everyone was given masks by the field forensic team, including Nicholas and Noel. Nicholas and Noel went straight to Claire, she was the eyewitness, the one who first found the bodies."Excuse me, we are the police," Nicholas said, he then took out his ID card as a police officer, Claire nodded in understanding. "Is it true that you found the bodies near the waterfall?"Claire nodded. She was a short-haired woman, not much taller than Nichol
CHAPTER 248The forensic team discovered unsettling details about the victims. The bodies were strategically placed in the water, each positioned to form a cryptic symbol when viewed from above.Nicholas opened his personal notes, then looked at Noel. "You must have guessed that it was Jason's wife and children from the testimony of one of the witnesses at the pawn shop, right?""That's right. Those were the last clothes they wore before leaving the pawn shop, or the day before Jason was found dead," Noel continued. Before long, the forensic team was done with their work and met Nicholas to say goodbye. They would meet at the hospital for further investigation."Other than the last piece of clothing..." Noel picked up the bags of evidence, there was one plastic bag that caught Nicholas' attention. Noel picked up the same plastic bag, then took something out from inside. "There's an identity card in here.""The woman had an ID?" Nicholas looked at Noel in confusion.Noel shrugged. "You
CHAPTER 249Liliana knocked on the door in front of him and said, "I'll come in, Mr. Blake."She was a diligent and skillful nurse. Liliana entered with a tray of medicines in her hand. The hospital's VVIP room smelled fruity, coming from the air freshener Liliana always used. That day, Liliana did the same as any other day. She came in, placed her tray of medicines on the nightstand, injected the medicines through the IV, and cleaned up. Liliana also sprayed air freshener all over the room after she was done with the medicines.Normally Liliana would leave immediately, but that day, Liliana heard the room owner's voice calling out to her."Lili... ana?"Liliana was startled and immediately turned around. She approached Wilson Blake who had opened his eyes perfectly. Unlike the previous incident, where Wilson Blake only showed signs of life without being fully conscious, this time Liliana was able to meet the Golden Group CEO face to face."Are you fully awake now, Mr. Blake?"Wilson
CHAPTER 250"Same pattern, different place. What is Ace doing all this for?"Noel and Nicholas had just returned from the hospital. They had a long discussion with Dr. Harris about the deaths of Maya and her two sons, Ben and Bobi. Ben was a boy who had a history of a rare disease, which was the same disease that Jill's daughter had.Noel swiveled his chair right and left, while Nicholas continued to massage his head in frustration. "You need to relax a little, Nick. This is a good lead. We finally know that Ace is the prime suspect in Jason and Jill's case. Two cases unfolded at once. We just need to catch Ace and make him reveal everything, we just need to add his testimony so he can rot in jail. You should be happy.""But Ace wasn't proven to be involved with the death of Alicia's parents, Noel!"Noel snorted, he looked at Nicholas in disbelief. "You're angry because Ace wasn't proven to have killed Alicia's parents? That's it?""This is a puzzle I can't solve, Noel. It's making my
CHAPTER 251Alicia walked into the home appliance store and looked around. She walked around the store to check if the items she needed were available there. After a few minutes, the girl in her blue hooded coat got in line at the cash register. The store didn't have many customers when it was snowing heavily. So Alicia only needed two customers to finish paying and she could put the items on the counter. When Alicia put down all the items she had bought, a cashier with a small nameplate on her chest that read Cathy greeted her kindly."Good morning. Are you going to buy all this?" Cathy looked at Alicia's items on the counter, then began to take one item at a time and scan them through the price scanner. "You bought a lot of CCTV. Is this to see if your house is haunted or not?"Alicia laughed politely. She shrugged her shoulders and tried to make excuses. "I just wanted to see if my neighbor's dogs were littering. They're causing trouble, so I need to be strict."Cathy squinted, but
