Chapter 246
"Chief Nicholas!"
The voice broke Nicholas and Alicia's focus. Especially when they both found Hendrick waving and walking towards them.
There was nothing Nicholas could do when Hendrick finally joined the same table as him. Nicholas had to act casual so that Hendrick wouldn't get suspicious.
"Hello, Alicia. You're here too. Are you guys on a date?"
Alicia and Nicholas exchanged glances. Without saying anything, Alicia could tell right away that she had to keep her mouth shut. She had to keep her secret so Hendrick wouldn't get suspicious.
Nicholas answered immediately. "We were hanging out around here, and decided to pay a visit to Fast Coffee." He looked at Alicia, giving her the code to nod her head. Alicia obeyed, she did Nicholas' covert request. "What are you doing in the office, Hendrick?"
"I'm just finishing up the report for Jason's case, the testimony from Mrs. Winchester yesterday will be included in the written report. That's a big clue."
Nicholas nodded in agreement. "You're right. It's important information, you should write it down in the notes." Nicholas silently assessed Hendrick's demeanor. "Would you like to order something?"
"No, Chief." Hendrick grinned. He looked at Alicia who was busy stirring the hot cappuccino with a small spoon, before finally turning back to Nicholas. "In that case, I'll leave you two alone. I'm afraid I'll be interrupting your time."
Without being asked, Hendrick immediately stood up from his place and looked at the two people in the seats in turn.
"See you soon, Chief."
And Nicholas nodded his head in reply to Hendrick's words.
After Hendrick left the table, Alicia and Nicholas exchanged glances. They were watching Hendrick's movements. It started with Hendrick leaving Nicholas' table, then he walked to the cashier, ordered a drink, waited for him nearby and took the order while paying. Hendrick didn't even look at Nicholas' table again before he finally left Fast Coffee.
"He showed up at the wrong time," Alicia muttered, taking her order.
Nicholas nodded his head. Looking at the closed door after Hendrick's departure, Nicholas replied to Alicia.
"I can't believe that he would betray us." Nicholas spluttered. "He was one of the senior detectives, he should have been a role model. It's a shame that he abused his position and power like that."
Alicia looked around, the Fast Coffee crowd was starting to fill up. But the tables around Alicia and Nicholas' table were still unfilled. It looked like they could still talk about the cases there.
"So, we should add Anna Parker to the list of people involved in my parents' deaths. Ace, Anna and Ace's mom, Angela."
Nicholas nodded in agreement. He took a sip of his coffee that was starting to warm up, and added his assumption. "Your mother may be related to Anna, but your mother is not related to Ace and Ace's mother, they don't know each other personally. But Felix said, before Wilson Blake was hospitalized, Golden Group had submitted a collab proposal to Alpha Company but your mom turned it down. Your mom may know Wilson Blake, but does she know Ace and even Ace's mother who has been living in England for a long time?"
"The reason Ace killed our friends was because he was afraid that I would find out about his plan to kill me. But in the end, Ace didn't kill me, and neither did his father. If Wilson Blake failed to kill me in the past, why didn't he do it when he had the chance?"
Again, Nicholas nodded in agreement. "It's like a missing piece. We should be looking for this missing piece in order to put the puzzle together and solve the case."
"But how? How to connect Anna, Ace, Angela, Wilson Blake, and my parents?"
The two of them were stuck in silence for a few moments. Both were busy with their own thoughts. Their heads were filled with expectations and possibilities.
Alicia mumbled for a long time, before finally saying, "What was the purpose of these people being killed? Why did Ace kill Jason, Jill and his daughter? Ace would kill to cover up something, just like the past. But what was Ace so afraid of that he would kill Jason, Jill and her daughter?"
Before Nicholas could answer, the ringing of the cell phone in the man's coat pocket caught his attention. Nicholas picked up the phone, it was Noel.
"Yes, Noel?"
[...]
"I'll be right there!"
Click.
The call was switched off. Nicholas immediately saw Alicia, she was staring frantically while informing. "The police found Jason's family."
Alicia's eyes widened. "I'll come with you." She stood up, preparing to leave, but Nicholas held Alicia's hand and made the girl turn around. "What else is it, Nick?"
"You have to promise me."
"Promise?"
"Don't go near the police line. You will stay in the car until I come to you. Understood?"
"Alright, I promise."
They both immediately got into the car. According to the maps given by Noel, Nicholas finally arrived near an artificial waterfall tour owned by a private company on the outskirts of the city.
Nicholas said to Alicia. "You wait here. I'll check on them."
Alicia felt uncomfortable, she knew something bad had just happened, but Alicia nodded her head and said, "Okay, Nick. Come back and see me when you're done."
After saying that, Nicholas left his car. He ran to enter the building. It was a tourist attraction of a private company, Mega Water. It was an artificial waterfall and there were several water pools around it.
Nicholas immediately grabbed his head when he found the bodies of a woman and two boys hugging each other inside a box. Noel stood nearby, taking some pictures with the office camera. Noel noticed Nicholas' presence, their eyes met as Noel finally shook his head.
It was a code that Nicholas understood. Nicholas looked around, before finally approaching Noel. The ambulance sirens broke their attention and Noel muttered, "The body will be moved soon. The forensics team has finished their examination, Nick."
"This really is the most complicated case I've ever come across," Nicholas said, before he moved closer to the bodies he found. "Ace... did you do this?"
CHAPTER 247The field forensic team did a good job, the bodies of Jason's wife and two sons were removed from the coffin. All team members were fully dressed. They lifted the bodies out of the crates using latex gloves to avoid leaving any traces behind. The condition of the three of them was worse than Jason himself. Their bodies were hideous and the smell was unpleasant as soon as the crate was opened. After removing the decomposing bodies, the forensic team put them in body bags and they took them to the hospital.Because the smell was so foul, everyone was given masks by the field forensic team, including Nicholas and Noel. Nicholas and Noel went straight to Claire, she was the eyewitness, the one who first found the bodies."Excuse me, we are the police," Nicholas said, he then took out his ID card as a police officer, Claire nodded in understanding. "Is it true that you found the bodies near the waterfall?"Claire nodded. She was a short-haired woman, not much taller than Nichol
CHAPTER 248The forensic team discovered unsettling details about the victims. The bodies were strategically placed in the water, each positioned to form a cryptic symbol when viewed from above.Nicholas opened his personal notes, then looked at Noel. "You must have guessed that it was Jason's wife and children from the testimony of one of the witnesses at the pawn shop, right?""That's right. Those were the last clothes they wore before leaving the pawn shop, or the day before Jason was found dead," Noel continued. Before long, the forensic team was done with their work and met Nicholas to say goodbye. They would meet at the hospital for further investigation."Other than the last piece of clothing..." Noel picked up the bags of evidence, there was one plastic bag that caught Nicholas' attention. Noel picked up the same plastic bag, then took something out from inside. "There's an identity card in here.""The woman had an ID?" Nicholas looked at Noel in confusion.Noel shrugged. "You
CHAPTER 249Liliana knocked on the door in front of him and said, "I'll come in, Mr. Blake."She was a diligent and skillful nurse. Liliana entered with a tray of medicines in her hand. The hospital's VVIP room smelled fruity, coming from the air freshener Liliana always used. That day, Liliana did the same as any other day. She came in, placed her tray of medicines on the nightstand, injected the medicines through the IV, and cleaned up. Liliana also sprayed air freshener all over the room after she was done with the medicines.Normally Liliana would leave immediately, but that day, Liliana heard the room owner's voice calling out to her."Lili... ana?"Liliana was startled and immediately turned around. She approached Wilson Blake who had opened his eyes perfectly. Unlike the previous incident, where Wilson Blake only showed signs of life without being fully conscious, this time Liliana was able to meet the Golden Group CEO face to face."Are you fully awake now, Mr. Blake?"Wilson
CHAPTER 250"Same pattern, different place. What is Ace doing all this for?"Noel and Nicholas had just returned from the hospital. They had a long discussion with Dr. Harris about the deaths of Maya and her two sons, Ben and Bobi. Ben was a boy who had a history of a rare disease, which was the same disease that Jill's daughter had.Noel swiveled his chair right and left, while Nicholas continued to massage his head in frustration. "You need to relax a little, Nick. This is a good lead. We finally know that Ace is the prime suspect in Jason and Jill's case. Two cases unfolded at once. We just need to catch Ace and make him reveal everything, we just need to add his testimony so he can rot in jail. You should be happy.""But Ace wasn't proven to be involved with the death of Alicia's parents, Noel!"Noel snorted, he looked at Nicholas in disbelief. "You're angry because Ace wasn't proven to have killed Alicia's parents? That's it?""This is a puzzle I can't solve, Noel. It's making my
CHAPTER 251Alicia walked into the home appliance store and looked around. She walked around the store to check if the items she needed were available there. After a few minutes, the girl in her blue hooded coat got in line at the cash register. The store didn't have many customers when it was snowing heavily. So Alicia only needed two customers to finish paying and she could put the items on the counter. When Alicia put down all the items she had bought, a cashier with a small nameplate on her chest that read Cathy greeted her kindly."Good morning. Are you going to buy all this?" Cathy looked at Alicia's items on the counter, then began to take one item at a time and scan them through the price scanner. "You bought a lot of CCTV. Is this to see if your house is haunted or not?"Alicia laughed politely. She shrugged her shoulders and tried to make excuses. "I just wanted to see if my neighbor's dogs were littering. They're causing trouble, so I need to be strict."Cathy squinted, but
Chapter 252"So, you're gonna install all those CCTVs in my house?" Erick confirmed. He looked at the oversized plastic on the sofa, then at Alicia. "You spent a lot of money just for these cameras? Like, really?"Alicia chuckled and walked over to Erick. Tapping him on the shoulder, Alicia said, "I just need your permission to install all this CCTV. I'll install some cameras here, and some cameras will be installed in my house." Alicia looked at Mrs. Thompson who was hugging herself, warming herself in her thick knit sweater. "Can I do that?"Mrs. Thompson saw no ill will from Alicia. So, the old woman had no reason to refuse. Mrs. Thompson glanced at Erick, Erick seemed to have no problem with Alicia's request, and then they both agreed coincidentally."I don't think it's a big deal. You can do that, darling," Mrs. Thompson said, she looked out the window and looked anxiously at Alicia. "Are you going to set up the camera when it snows? I think it will be very cold outside.""I have
Chapter 253Knock! Knock! Knock! The sound of a knock on the door made Alicia gasp. She was sitting on the floor, preparing some folding knives under the table just in case. She had hidden all the items she had bought from the store, to protect herself in case Ace came to her flat.Ace and Alicia's love story was over. Ace was already a murderer and Alicia should not be swayed by Ace's words. Their relationship is over! Alicia is now facing a different Ace, an Ace who has killed many people in the past.Alicia peered over her kitchen counter, from where she could see through the transparent door. Nicholas was there. Nicholas was standing in front of the door, waiting for it to open. And after confirming that it was Nicholas, Alicia quickly finished her work and took a small run towards the door.Alicia opened the door, welcoming Nicholas with a smile on her lips. "Hey, come on in!"Nicholas nodded in agreement, and the two of them walked to the sofa in the living room. Mumbling, Nicho
CHAPTER 254After telling Alicia about his plans, Nicholas spends the night there just in case. Ace's missing presence still makes Alicia and Nicholas uncomfortable. They have lost their sense of security since Ace became a fugitive, and came to Alicia's house.Alicia was lying on her bed looking at the white walls of her room. There was nothing there but silence and a lamp shining its light. The girl spent the night thinking. She prepared a plan in case Ace came to her house again, attacked, and kidnapped her. But Alicia didn't sense any evil intent from Ace. Ace wanted to protect her from something. But what did Ace want to protect Alicia from?As she continued to think about something disturbing, Alicia lost her sleep. She got out of bed and took the journal from the nightstand, reviewing the notes she had made. While crossing out some possibilities, Alicia began to write other speculations on the paper. She used her pen to write the names of people she had just met. Like Angela, C
