Two Hundred and eighteen

CHAPTER 218

"What? Brittany's pregnant?!" Alicia shut her mouth quickly.

The girl was in shock from the news that Nicholas had brought her in the early hours of the morning. Nicholas still came to Alicia's flat and told her everything that happened. How Nicholas had just finished checking something related to the case, then received a call from Brittany, he went to check, and found Kevin at Brittany's house until the most shocking news that he had never expected before was Brittany's pregnancy.

Alicia was at a loss for words over this shocking revelation. Her eyes were wide and when she lowered her hand from her mouth, she still had to convince herself to be sure. "Brittany... she's really pregnant, is it Kevin's child?"

Nicholas nodded weakly, he wanted to refuse to admit the fact, but Brittany was indeed carrying Kevin's baby. It was something that could not be avoided. "Unfortunately yes. I couldn't even point the gun at Kevin because I was too shocked. I didn't know who to side with, Kevin came in and said he wanted to make things right, take responsibility for the baby that was now in Brittany's belly, but Brittany screamed and asked me to stop Kevin."

"You must have had a hard time deciding."

Nicholas shrugged his shoulders, he then leaned back on the top of the sofa after closing his eyes. "This is really strange, how did Kevin get out of prison? I checked the documents with the help of Elden who was in the office, and Kevin's release was valid. He has an official document recognized by Hendrick as the head in charge of the prison. This is very strange."

"Did he serve his time properly?"

"He was supposed to be on probation for a longer period, but he was released when it hasn't even been two months."

Alicia frowned, she crossed her arms over her chest and began to assume. "If he was legally found not in violation, that means there's something you don't know, Nick."

Nicholas opened his eyes, then corrected his sitting position. "If Kevin really is out of prison, Brittany's safety could be at risk. We don't really know if Kevin wants to take responsibility, or if he's coming for revenge. We need to make sure, but how?"

"..."

"If only you'd seen the look on Kevin's face when he saw me, he was actually scoffing at me with that disturbing expression on his face!"

Alicia smiled, she then gently rubbed the back of Nicholas' hand and said, "Calm down, Nick. You have to face this with a cool head. Kevin is good at manipulating, this is all probably a game he is running and he wants you to play in it too. You need to be calm to win the game."

Nicholas rubbed his head. "I've had it with all these cases. I feel like I'm going to explode!"

"By the way, how are you going to get me and Brittany to meet? Does she really want to tell me everything? We haven't spoken to each other in a few days. I think she's busy preparing for Christmas."

"Brittany looked shaken when Kevin arrived, she was holding a fork and pointing it at Kevin," Nicholas told her.

And that made Alicia frown. "That means Brittany wanted to attack Kevin, or protect herself from Kevin. What do you think Kevin was trying to do to Brittany?"

"I saw Kevin trying to talk, but Brittany didn't want to listen. Let alone listen, Brittany doesn't seem to want to see Kevin there anymore. That's why the situation is so heated and tense."

As Nicholas and Alicia grapple with the shocking news of Brittany's pregnancy and the mysterious circumstances surrounding Kevin's release, they find themselves entangled in a web of uncertainty and danger.

Alicia's mind is filled with questions, trying to piece together a puzzle. "If Kevin is out of prison and Brittany is in danger, we need a plan. We can't let him manipulate the situation and endanger Brittany."

Nicholas nodded, his resolve resurfacing. "You're right. We must ensure Brittany's safety. I will speak with Elden and gather more information about Kevin's release. There might be something we're missing."

Alicia took a deep breath, contemplating their next move. "I need to talk to Brittany. If she's willing to share more about the situation, we can better understand Kevin's motives. Maybe she has insights that can help us."

"You might be able to meet and talk to her, but about this pregnancy, Brittany hasn't even told her parents." Nicholas shook his head, before he continued. "She seems to have plans to live her own life with the baby."

The girl in her long, black sleeping pajamas tried to understand the situation. She then said, "What if you take Brittany out, we meet at a café or something and we talk about this. If we talk outside, Brittany won't have to feel uncomfortable with Emma and Alan, she can be free to say anything. Or, oh, what if she comes to the house?"

But Nicholas refused. "We still have to think about the possibility of Ace coming and endangering you both. He's also a dangerous fugitive."

As the two strategized their next move in the face of impending danger, Nicholas considered Alicia's advice carefully. The safety of Brittany and their unborn child remained their top priority, but navigating this difficult situation required a balance between openness and caution.

"I liked the idea of meeting somewhere neutral, away from home. It would give Brittany space to share without fear of eavesdropping or unwanted attention," Nicholas mused, pondering the logistics.

Alicia nodded in agreement. "Let's pick a café that's hidden away, one that won't attract attention. We have to make Brittany feel safe enough to open up about her situation. And if she decides to involve her parents, it should be on her terms."

"I agree with that idea. I'll find a place. Maybe I'll recommend a restaurant that's not too crowded and has room to chat there."
