Two Hundred and Sixty

CHAPTER 260

Nicholas clenched his jaw, his mind racing in anticipation of the black car's next move. The chase took them through a maze of narrow alleys, the city lights reflecting on the wet pavement as raindrops began to fall. The tension in the car grew with every twist and turn.

Elden's voice crackled on the phone, [Chief, the car is heading to the industrial park. We have to be careful; there is a maze there].

Nicholas exchanged glances with Noel, both realizing that the stakes were rising. The industrial estate was known for its abandoned warehouses and hidden corners, the perfect place for a clandestine rendezvous or a dramatic escape.

"Can you see where the car is headed, Elden?"

[I can't, Chief. There's a fork in the road ahead, if you can't catch up, we'll lose him."]

Nicholas also felt that he was under pressure, he immediately tapped Noel lightly on the shoulder and shouted, "Faster, Noel. We can't lose him! I need to see the driver behind the car."

"I've done my best, Nick. You don't want the police to arrest us because we hurt another car, do you?"

That was typical Noel sarcasm. He stepped on the gas, driving the car very fast. But several cars started to get in the way and the chase was hampered.

The voice on the other side, Elden, came back, [Chief, Hendrick's car is heading towards the warehouse you went to, that was Peter's message.]

"Warehouse? That means, Hendrick and the masked man always meet there. Okay. That's more than enough. Ask Peter to focus on helping you with this chase."

Elden immediately replied, [Yes, Chief.]

The car driven by Noel was almost able to catch up to the mysterious black car suspected to be owned by Ace. That car had already hit Mrs. Thompson, and was watching Alicia's house for several times. Nicholas was increasingly convinced that the car belonged to Ace.

But when the car almost reached the black car they were chasing, a truck overtook and hampered the chase. Noel found it difficult to overtake as the road ahead was quite congested.

"Ah, shit. Honk at him, Noel!"

Tin! Tin! Tin!

Nicholas also took out a siren light and stuck it on top of the car to make the truck in front of him move out of the way immediately, but the truck didn't hear him at all. It was a truck carrying cows. The cows in the truck made noise, so it probably disturbed the truck driver's concentration and made the truck driver not hear the siren.

"Damn! Where is that car?"

[Chief, you just passed the intersection. The car is gone, Chief!]

"What?! How come?"

[There is no road CCTV that can be monitored from there, I'm sorry, Chief.]

Noel slammed on the brakes under his feet, he slowed down the car that was already moving very fast. Noel glanced at Nicholas, the man looked very frustrated as he wiped his face. But even Noel couldn't do anything to comfort Nicholas.

Nicholas felt his frustration mounting as the black car disappeared into the maze of the city. The rain continued to fall, washing away any hope of an easy chase. He took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm of emotions inside him.

"Noel, find a way to get us out of this jam. We can't let them get away like this."

Noel nodded, maneuvering the congested road with practiced skill. The truck carrying the cows finally veered off to the side, and the chase was on. The black car managed to get ahead, but Nicholas was determined not to let Ace escape again.

Elden's voice broke the tension, [Chief, I have the CCTV footage from the last intersection. We can go back and see where he turned].

Nicholas leaned forward, his eyes fixed on the screen Elden was showing. The footage showed the black car making a sharp right turn just before the intersection. Nicholas nodded at Noel, directing him to the indicated path.

As they retraced the route, Nicholas' mind worked overtime. The warehouse in the industrial estate remained the main point of interest. Hendrick's involvement had only deepened the mystery. He glanced at the map on Elden's screen, tracing the routes the black car might have taken.

[Chief, the warehouse is up ahead. Be careful.]

Nicholas tightened his grip on the car door handle. The rain had stopped, leaving a cold mist in the air. The warehouse loomed in the distance, its silhouette shrouded in darkness.

Noel expertly parked the car some distance away, so as not to attract attention. "We should get off here and walk so as not to attract attention."

Nicholas' eyebrows furrowed. He did not agree with the suggestion, but it was the best advice Nicholas could follow. Nicholas nodded his head and said, "Alright. We'd better get going now before we lose the car."

They continued their journey on foot, entering an unused warehouse area. Nicholas and Noel were both alert with pistols in their hands. They were prepared for any eventuality. Nicholas gave Noel the code by lifting his chin, they then took different paths, Nicholas to the right, and Noel to the left. They entered and pointed the gun, although in the end, they found nothing there.

Instead, Nicholas and Noel found the black car they were chasing parked there. They both ran towards the car curiously. "What the hell is this? He left his car here?"

Before Noel could answer, Nicholas had already realized something. He raised his hand in the air and said, "Wait a minute!"

"What is it, Nick?"

"It's..." Nicholas kept the gun behind his waist belt, he lowered his body and checked the license plate on the front of the car. Nicholas then turned around, checking the license plate on the back. "He used a fake license plate! The front and the back have different serial numbers!"

Noel shook his head in disbelief. He massaged his head and muttered. "We almost hit a cow truck just to get ripped off like this? Is he really kidding, Nick?"

"This is crazy!"
