CHAPTER 21
Ace Blake's room.
Ace allowed everyone to sit near the bed, watching Luke who was preparing with his laptop on his lap. Luke was indeed a technology expert, he was Ace's trusted hacker. So far, Luke's skills have helped him a lot for his personal needs. But this time, Luke knew that the problem they were facing was not just a small one.
Ace lent him his super-expensive laptop to support their planned hacking action. They then sat in a circle with Luke as the centerpiece. And Nicholas immediately gave Luke the link he found at the scene of Elena's death.
Luke looked serious with the laptop in front of him. His eyes stared straight, while his forehead frowned seriously. Usually, they would play video games to pass the time. But what they were dealing with this time was a case of someone's death. No games, no fun.
Ace pulled the chair in the corner of the room closer to Luke, he stared at the screen and asked, "How? Were you able to break into the dark site's server security?"
"I'm trying," Luke said.
Nicholas suddenly replied, "I will arrest you for this hack if you don't get in."
Hearing Nicholas' serious-sounding words, made everyone in the room turn their heads quickly. People looked at Nicholas with a come-on-what-are-you-serious and you're-so-annoying expression. So Nicholas was sensitized and came to his defense. Nicholas shrugged and said, "You guys know that hacking is in the law, right?"
"Must you discuss the law in this situation, Detective?" asked Ace irritably. Nicholas couldn't see the situation at all! Very annoying.
"I got it!" Luke suddenly shouted enthusiastically.
Luke looked at the people around him with a happy expression - hoping that one of them would congratulate him or something - but they didn't respond. They just looked at Luke with flat faces. It made Luke lower the smile on his lips and snort in annoyance.
"What are you guys doing? Can you at least pretend to be happy to appreciate my work?"
Brittany who was sitting next to Luke immediately shook his head. She spoke casually. "You just logged in. Even a child can do that," she said irritably. "Quick, do your job properly, Luke!"
Luke replied to Britt with an annoyed snort. "You guys aren't having much fun, are you," he grumbled for a moment before returning to the web system in front of him. "If it wasn't for that detective threatening me, I wouldn't have done anything."
"Stop complaining, you're not a kid," Nicholas said, then tapped Luke hard on the shoulder.
Luke grunted in annoyance that his success was not appreciated at all. But he refocused on his main objective there.
While Luke was busy tearing apart the security system of the forbidden site through software and some coding system that no one understood, Brittany grabbed a can of soda and a packet of potato chips from the mini kitchen in Ace's room. See? This is the privilleage of a school CEO's son. She has a mini kitchen with a fridge and a coffee machine in her room. The facilities in Ace's room can really spoil anyone who is in it. It was only natural that Luke would take her at her word to experience that privillege as well.
"Speaking of Elena's death, I feel weird without her. Even though she was annoying, she was still my role model. Her fashion sense is so classy and I've always admired her," Brittany said as she walked back to her place. "Who would kill her?"
Alicia smiled wryly. "Elena thought otherwise. She thought you were her rival, Britt," Alicia said frankly.
Brittany sat back and started munching on her potato chips. "She misjudged me."
Nicholas opened the email that had just arrived on his cell phone and gave a deep frown as he read the investigation report into Elena's death. "From my observations, the culprit seems to know the victim very well and knows the ins and outs of this dormitory. It can be seen from his quick movements and leaving no trace," he said suddenly. Making the others turn their heads curiously. "Do I have to check five hundred people at once to catch him?"
"That's a crazy idea, Nic." Brittany took a quick sip of her soda and looked at Alicia and Nicholas--who were in front of her--alternately. "But I really can't imagine what it must be like to be Jake. He must be in total shock," Britt said with concern.
"Yeah, you're right, Britt." Ace interrupted. "Looking back, Jake was always involved in every death case, um, I mean, he was always in contact with the victims." Ace turned her face towards the cell phone in her hand. He was playing the latest game on his phone while waiting for Luke to do his job. "Jake was the first to find James' body, and now it's his girlfriend who's turned into a corpse."
Nicholas squinted his eyes suspiciously. "Wait, wait, this kid has a point." He straightened up and looked at the four of them in turn. "The victims were connected within a fairly narrow circle of friends. This means that the perpetrator is probably one of the victim's closest friends."
Britt rolled her eyes lazily. "But who, Nic?! Everyone in this dorm knows that Elena is an influential student. Only someone with a lot of guts would do this, of course."
Ace scratched the nape of his neck awkwardly. "Okay, maybe this is a very serious matter now." He put his cell phone into his pants pocket. "Anyone could be the culprit. But who do you think is the person who has big balls and secret associations with drug dealers or people from this dark site?!"
Ace's words just now managed to make everyone in his room shudder in horror. Tension showed on their faces. Ace was right. They seemed to be dealing with someone who was an expert in his field. It could be seen from the execution that left no trace and was so neat.
For some time, only silence pierced the atmosphere around them. No one dared to open their voices because in the end, they were busy with their own speculations.
Suddenly, Luke shifted his sitting position. He leaned forward and stared at the laptop screen that had been resting on his thighs with a serious expression. "I think I found something," he said mysteriously.
CHAPTER 22Luke had just managed to hack one of the most difficult safeguards that allowed him to access the site's secret trading page. his skills were amazing! But he didn't get it easy. His family is talented in technology and computers. Some of them are programmers and corporate hackers, so Luka has more or less learned the ropes."I can access it and it's amazing!"The curious Brittany reflexively brought herself closer to Luke. She looked at the page that displayed many pictures of firearms and other illegal items that were sold freely on the site. All displayed without censorship and restrictions for children. "You've got to be kidding me, Luke," Brittany hissed. "These are all illegal items."Luke's smiling face turned one hundred and eighty degrees. He didn't look as happy as before. Luke mumbled a little, seemingly considering Brittany's words. Brittany was right about the illegal goods, so why should Luke be happy. He looked in the other direction and called out, "Detective
CHAPTER 23New York City Police Headquarters.Alicia sat inside a two-by-two-meter enclosed room at the New York City police headquarters. Her eyes stared coldly at the wall in front of her, her gaze blank. Her hands were folded on a wooden table with a glass surface. This room contains only a table, a chair, and CCTV cameras in every corner. This was her death seat, even though Alicia was not necessarily guilty of the case she was facing. Two policemen in full uniform approached Nicholas who was standing behind black glass. One of them, Michael, tapped Nicholas on the shoulder. "Detective?"And Nicholas turned to the source of the voice. Michael was a police officer who usually conducted interrogations in the office. He was a tall man with a thick black mustache that attracted attention. Square glasses adorned his brown eyes. He looked at Nicholas curiously, before a smile finally lifted his grayish lips."Michael?""This is Peter, our new colleague in the office. He just came in tod
CHAPTER 24Alicia snorted rudely and shot Nic a disapproving glare. "I was set up and you must have known it, Gray.""I think you'd better speak politely to me, because you're being watched by a lot of police here." Nicholas looked towards the glass, where the two policemen from earlier were indeed watching their activities from a different room. Nicholas turned back to Alicia and tapped the surface of the table with his forefinger. "You must be able to prove that you were not involved.""But I really didn't order anything on the dark site we saw!"Nicholas nodded slowly. He then thrust several sheets of paper containing his investigation reports so far onto the table, so that Alicia could see all the photos and writings in front of her without having to touch them. "But how do you explain all this? That asshole Wilson will punish you if he sees this. Oh, no, there's worse. You'll go to jail if Mr. Wilson asks me to. You're in big trouble now." Nicholas then leaned back and watched Al
CHAPTER 25Golden High School. After all the deaths that occurred within the school's dormitory, Mr. Wilson reopened the school for study programs like the previous days. Mr. Wilson always thought of money first, and the longer the school remained closed, the more Mr. Wilson would worry about the image of his school. He tried his best to shut up the media, forbidding them from covering more news that would bring down Golden High School's good image. Especially since the school was preparing for their annual event. Mr. Wilson really didn't want to take any chances.Mr. Wilson had already relinquished that responsibility to Nicholas. He was a competent young detective. They had never met, but whoever a Chief like Paul recommended, Mr. Wilson would follow.Alicia now sat in the back row and looked at Mr. Payne (one of the teachers working at Golden High School). He was a biology teacher. He studied biological sciences for more than seven years before being able to teach at the school.Mr
CHAPTER 26"Miss Scoots!" snapped Mr. Payne suddenly.Mr. Payne's loud voice startled Brittany. She turned around to find him looking at her. Mr. Payne looked angry as his hands were clasped over his chest. He adjusted his glasses, then tapped the blackboard with the marker in his hand. "Is my class so boring for you that you choose to ignore it?"Everyone turned their eyes to Brittany. The girl felt even more pressured by the attitude of the other students. Brittany's face was red as a tomato, she was so embarrassed to be treated like that by Mr. Payne. She bit her lip in fear, then tried to reply to Mr. Payne's question with the remaining courage she had. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to talk inside-""That's enough, Miss Scoots!" Mr. Payne cut Brittany off. That scared Brittany even more. She looked around, people were still watching. They all seemed to be mesmerized by Mr. Payne's words. But before Brittany could speak up to defend herself, Mr. Payne had already said,"I let you out o

CHAPTER 28Cafeteria- Golden High School."Didn't you make a mistake when you heard it, Britt?"Brittany and Alicia were now sitting with the other students in the cafeteria. Just like the others, the two of them did not want to miss their lunch hour that day. The two of them sat in a corner of the cafeteria, as if they had marked the table as theirs beforehand.Brittany stirred the spaghetti with lots of sauce and meat in front of her without interest. She just nodded weakly. "I heard it clearly, they're talking about you," she informed.Alicia took a sip of her iced vanilla latte and muttered under her breath afterwards. "Do you know who was in there?"Brittany shook her head. "For all I know, it's Ace's room." and shrugged her shoulders indifferently. Then Alicia just flexed her forehead deeply. "Are you sure it's Ace?"And all Brittany did was let out a long sigh. The blonde-haired girl then shifted her plate away, seemingly no longer having any appetite for the meaty meal. "I did
CHAPTER 29 Cafeteria - Golden High School. Alicia moved her plate away. She had just finished her lunch in the cafeteria-alone. Because Brittany had chosen to go back to her room to struggle with the history assignment she had to submit it this afternoon to Mr. Wilson Blake rather than finish the meaty pasta. Believe me, the old man was demanding and strict, he didn't hesitate to report students with low grades to the parents and let them get their punishment. For whatever reason, since leaving the police station yesterday, Alicia felt like she needed to change-or maybe she already had. The Brooklyn-born girl now wears her hair in a ponytail, while a few strands are allowed to fall past her ears. Alicia's emotions also tend to be more sensitive these days. She has become more sensitive to her surroundings and this reminds her of the difficult times she has gone through in the past. Her stomach was filled to the brim with a portion of meaty pasta and a cold vanilla latte. But that w
