CHAPTER 161
The Fixer picked up a cigar from the table beside him, he put the end of the cigar to his lips and began to take a slow sip. He romanticized the puffs of smoke coming out of his mouth and let them touch the surface of Angela's beautiful face. Angela was already fifty years old, but thanks to the expensive treatments and healthy foods she consumed after her illness, she managed to make her face look even younger and healthier. It made Angela look beautiful despite her age.
"Our people have been keeping an eye on Alicia and so far, Alicia doesn't seem to be going to see Ace. It looks like they don't know where Ace is either," the man said in a husky voice.
The Fixer had a stern face with a beard filling his high jaw. He had a perfect nose that made him look cool and evil at the same time. He raised one eyebrow, when he finally continued, "Do you think... Ace will go to Alicia?"
"Ace is so obsessed with Alicia, he'll come and when he does, you should be able to bring him to me."
"What about Alicia, should I bring her to you?"
Angela looked thoughtful, she furrowed her brow and crossed her arms over her chest. "She's just my bait to find Ace. But I'll see later, if she'll be useful enough to serve as bait for a greater purpose."
"Well, whatever you say... we'll do our job, as long as you pay the bills."
Angela clucked lazily, she raised her face arrogantly. "You almost got Alicia shot to death in the forest. Is that what you do with your men?"
The man's laughter boomed. He knew that this place was a real palace for him and went back to smoking the cigar in his left hand. He cleared his throat, then pointed at Angela using his hand that was holding the cigar. "That detective got in my way! I just wanted to give Alicia a little terror, but she just showed up and made my plan not go the way I wanted. That's called... reflex movement."
"Tsk, you're not professional."
"Is that what you want to comment on from me?"
"No. I'm going to leave now. Call me, if you've found Ace. And, don't hurt Alicia until I get Ace. I need that girl as bait, so... don't mess with my bait."
Angela walked away from The Fixer's base camp. After she closed the door, Angela's brown eyes could immediately spot two large men with tattoos all over their arms. They were both The Fixer's bodyguards. They were paid to stand guard there, with the pistols they had, they would scare anyone who saw them.
"I have to go, you're in my way," Angela said emphatically, and the two bodyguards left, making way for the woman to leave the base camp.
One of the bodyguards went inside after knocking on the door, he then asked. "Excuse me, Boss. Should I follow her now?"
And upon hearing that question, The Fixer put his cigar down on the table. He raised his eyebrows and said, "Sure. Take care of her. We can't afford to lose our big money. She's the jackpot, and once we complete the mission... she'll be useless."
"Okay, Boss."
The bodyguard then left with his fellow bodyguard, taking a car on the side of the road to follow the car carrying Angela and her personal driver somewhere.
As Angela's car drove down the dimly lit streets, she couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that she was being followed. Leaning forward, she whispered to the driver, "We have guests. Step on the gas, but don't be obvious."
The driver nodded, accelerating smoothly while Angela quietly checked the rearview mirror. True to her instincts, she saw the dark silhouette of a bodyguard car following them. Angela's mind raced as she contemplated her next move.
Meanwhile, in The Fixer's lair, he leaned back in his chair, a wicked smile on his lips. "Let's see where this game takes us," she muttered to herself, watching the live feed from the tracking device hidden in Angela's car.
As Angela's vehicle sped through the maze of city streets, she instructed her driver to make a series of unexpected turns. The bodyguards follow her, determined to stick to their target. Angela's heart pounded with every twist and turn, wondering how deeply she had become entangled in this dangerous web.
Suddenly, Angela's driver skillfully navigated into a narrow alley, barely wide enough for a car to pass. The bodyguards hesitated for a moment, but decided to give chase. The alley opens up into a deserted industrial area, and Angela's driver pushes the car to its limits, leaving the bodyguards struggling to keep up. Just when it looked like they were losing the chase, Angela's driver came to an abrupt stop, causing the bodyguards' car to screech to a halt behind them.
In a split second, Angela's car door opened, and she stepped out gracefully. The bodyguards, realizing that they had underestimated their prey, cautiously approached. However, Angela remained undeterred, a sly smile on her lips. "Tell your superiors that I play by my own rules," Angela said, her brown eyes shining with confidence. "Tell The Fixer that the one person he should follow is Ace, not me."
Angela then closed the door, preparing to leave the bodyguards with her middle finger in the air.
As Angela disappeared into the night, the bodyguards were stranded in the industrial estate, contemplating the unexpected event. Back in The Fixer's lair, frustration flashes across his face as he watches the scene unfold. Little does he know that Angela has just upped the ante in the dangerous game she is playing, and Ace's pursuit is about to take a thrilling and unexpected turn.
Angela is back on the road in her car. On the way, Angela kept thinking about her unpleasant experience.
"I have to prepare another plan, The Fixer seems to be doing something behind my back."
CHAPTER 162Nicholas arrived wearing a long gray shirt and a black suit. He was dressed formally, knowing he would be having a second meeting with his internal team at the police station. When he stepped inside, Noel and Hendrick were already sitting in their chairs chatting. Small talk about the new police officer who had joined the serious crimes division. The news caught Nicholas' attention when he stepped into the room. "Did I just hear that there's a new detective in the serious crimes division?"Noel and Hendrick looked up, turning their faces to the source of the voice. Noel nodded first and responded, "Yes, I heard he started working in our division today. You'll probably meet him if you stay in the office. She'll be dispatched this afternoon.""That's good, so we won't be short-handed while working on cases in the field." Nicholas pulled out a chair and sat quietly. His eyes looked at Noel, then Hendrick in turn. "Will he get his first case today?""The two of us are discussi
CHAPTER 163Noel and Hendrick, who had observed the dynamic, exchanged glances. The meeting ended with a strong sense of purpose and determination. Nicholas spoke directly to Elden, "I believe you're ready to hit the ground running, Elden. We have some leads to follow up on, and your insights might just be the key to unraveling this mystery."Elden nodded, his eyes reflecting a strong determination. The team split up, each member preparing to begin their task. Elden, guided by Noel and Hendrick, familiarized himself with local protocol and the ongoing investigation.Little did they know, the collaboration between Nicholas, Peter, and new member, Elden, would set in motion a chain of events that would lead to unexpected twists and turns. The shadows of the city hide secrets waiting to be uncovered, and this eclectic team is determined to uncover them."Let me give you my report, Chief!" This time, it was Hendrick who spoke up. He raised his hand, drawing the attention of the people in
CHAPTER 164"Because everything burned down in the fire?" Elden confirmed, he was very curious. This was his first case after being transferred to the serious crimes division team, it was only natural that Elden felt the need to be really serious before his leader. "It was premeditated murder, wasn't it?""Yes, it was premeditated murder," said Noel, interrupting Hendrick who was about to answer. The lanky man held out a folder, making Elden accept it quickly. "You can read in there, I've summarized all the cases that happened in the past few weeks. Everything is interconnected."Elden looked at the first page of the journal thoughtfully. There was a photo of Alicia and her profile there. Elden's brow furrowed, he then looked at Nicholas with a look that Nicholas did not understand."What's wrong, why are you looking at me like that?" Nicholas wanted to know. Then, the American-German turned the first page of the journal so that Nicholas could see Alicia's profile that Noel had tidied
CHAPTER 165When everyone was staring at Elden, he just looked relaxed and shrugged his shoulders innocently. Elden gave a small smile. "Because someone who leaves their home for a long time, will tend to want to check if their home, their family is alright."Nicholas agreed with that. He then looked at Noel. "Anyway, is there anything else about Jill, that could be a clue?""Nothing, Nick. Jill got out of prison at the time the police said she would," Noel said, pulling out a note from the journal he had previously given to Elden. "No one has seen him since he was put on probation. No criminal record. No problems with other inmates. So, do you think we should rule him a victim or a perpetrator?""He took his daughter away because he couldn't pay the hospital fees, which is illegal. And, if no one else is proven to have entered the cliff house, that means she was the one who poisoned his daughter. He is the perpetrator in the case, but his body was found on the beach, and there was a
CHAPTER 166The roar of cars echoed as Noel took Nicholas' car out of the police station area. He took the car out after the patrol car driven by Peter and Elden left at the beginning. Noel immediately turned the wheel, once he got onto the larger main road. The streets of New York City were not as busy as usual, probably because it was the weekend. So everyone was busy in their respective homes, spending time with their beloved families."You know, we should be at home enjoying hot chocolate with someone in front of the fireplace. This cold air is making my bones hurt," Noel complained.Nicholas, however, turned Noel's complaints into jokes. Nicholas put his hands in his coat pockets and replied. "Your bones hurt because they're old, you're old, Noel.""Shit, I'm not even forty yet!""It's not about age," Nicholas said. He let out a long breath, then looked at Noel who was driving. "I'm taking Alicia on vacation. Do you think it's a good idea?"Noel looked at Nicholas with a surprise
CHAPTER 167"This corner has a window with a trellis, while that side has no trellis." Nicholas pointed to the far end, to the box-sized window whose curtains were burnt. "The fire department arrived thirty minutes after the fire started. That's long enough for the whole house to catch fire."Noel found himself agreeing with Nicholas' statement. One hand felt the table that was now lying on the floor. It looked burnt, with half of the table black and the legs looking fragile."This still doesn't explain why Michelle was hit by the table and died on the spot. Her head was indeed injured, probably hit by this table. But, how?"Nicholas and Noel exchanged glances. "Was Michelle framed, invited to go to this area and then hit her head on the table. So, this table would be the only evidence and reason why Michelle could have died instantly.""Doctor Harris said that it was a quick death. Death caused by a fatal injury. How hard was the blow to Michella's head that she hit the table and die
CHAPTER 168Alicia took off the apron she had used during work and hung it up, and then picked up the gray backpack she kept in her locker and carried it on her back. Ethan's voice suddenly appeared beside her."Hey, Al."Alicia turned her head and smiled. "Hey, Ethan. What's wrong, you're not home?"Ethan showed off the backpack on his back, he also opened the locker beside Alicia and took a helmet from inside there. Smiling, Ethan asked, "I saw you leave with a guy.""Well, you saw him.""Is that your boyfriend?"Alicia turned around, walking towards the outside of the kitchen. The place where the lockers for storing things were located. "Yes, he's my boyfriend. By the way, how did you see him, didn't you leave first?"Ethan laughed softly, he had a crisp and comfortable laugh to hear. It made Alicia happy to be around him. "I turned around because I was really curious, I wanted to know who your boyfriend was. He's handsome, anyway.""Sure.""Do you like handsome men?"Alicia stoppe
CHAPTER 169Uncle Chuck had just locked the door flap at the back of the truck to secure the items he was carrying. Uncle Chuck had planned to take the bottles of milk to the children at the orphanage. And he intentionally brought Alicia as well as Ethan along, to introduce how he built the shop business. He sold, earned a little profit from the sales and gave a little of that profit to the children at the orphanage."Okay, it's done," Uncle Chuck said and got into his truck.Alicia and Ethan sat next to Uncle Chuck, the three of them, as the engine of the truck that had been his companion for ten years finally started and moved forward. They drove through the quiet country roads at night. But Uncle Chuck didn't stop surprising them. Suddenly Uncle Chuck turned the wheel, going in a direction he wasn't supposed to.And the change sent Alicia into a panic. She scanned the road markers in confusion, looking right and left with a worried expression. Alicia cleared her throat and asked, "
