CHAPTER 103
The atmosphere of Amanda's house made Alicia shake a little. This house had been abandoned by Amanda, since she was last convicted of the murder of her schoolmates. She was later released on condition, after Ace was found guilty of a serial death.
But since her release, Amanda had run away and was never seen anywhere. Alicia doesn't care at first, but the death of her parents reminds her of Amanda. All the grudges Amanda had, could have made the girl hate Alicia and the possibility of Amanda wanting to kill Alicia's family was quite high.
"We should go to the forest to check the map, Nic," Alicia suggested, she was already hopeless because of the death of her parents.
"It's been a few years since Amanda came to this house." Nicholas raised his voice, wanting to make his anxiety clear in case Alicia made a reckless decision. "That's a route we don't know about. I'll call Noel and check with him. You'd better go home, I'll drive you."
But Alicia's hand moved quickly to restrain Nicholas. "I can't just stay like this. I have to find Amanda, I have to know if she killed my parents or not."
Alicia's determination clashed with Nicholas' worry, a friction born of fear and an urgent need for answers. The weight of loss hung heavy in the air, suppressing their resolve.
Nicholas sighed, realizing the futility of dissuading Alicia. "All right, but we do this together. We'll find the answers, but we'll be careful."
Alicia nodded in agreement and looked at Nicholas with a thank-you-for-trusting-me expression.
The map Amanda had made did indeed lead to the forest. The forest was not far from Amanda's house. There were still many empty gardens in Amanda's neighborhood, and that made it difficult for Alicia and Nicholas to ask neighbors or people in the neighborhood. Finally, the car Nicholas was driving arrived at a forest that looked the same as the one Amanda had drawn on the old map.
The forest loomed ahead, the shadows painted by the fading light. The branches stretched out like fingers, and the whisper of leaves moved by the wind echoed eerily. Alicia hesitated, her resolve wavering as the reality of the ominous atmosphere set in. The sky had already begun to darken, and Alicia hated the atmosphere.
"Alicia, are you sure about all this?"
"Of course," Alicia replied, then looked at Nicholas confidently.
As they went deeper, every step seemed to echo with a tense heartbeat. Alicia gripped the map tightly, her knuckles turning white. "This way," she murmured, her voice barely audible over the rustling leaves.
"We're starting to lose light," Nicholas said, then turned on the flashlight coming from his cell phone. He had forgotten to bring a flashlight, so an idea popped into his head. "I'm going back to the car to check if I brought a flashlight. Can you wait for me here?"
"Okay, Nic."
"Don't go anywhere until I get back. Understood?"
"Sure."
Their path twisted and turned, an enigmatic puzzle unraveling before them. The crowing of a crow in the distance sent chills down their spine. Alicia looked around warily, her senses heightened by the eerie silence that enveloped them.
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows, silhouetted against the fading sunlight. The presence of the mysterious figure left Alicia rooted to the spot, a mixture of fear and questions flooding her mind.
"Amanda?"
BRUG!
Alicia's consciousness was lost instantly.
Until the second after, Alicia was able to open her eyes slowly. The faint sound of someone's voice could be heard. It was a hoarse male voice, like a mouth covered by a mask. And with difficulty, Alicia tried to wake up from her sleep.
But when she tried to stand up from the rough ground, Alicia realized that her body was bound by a strong rope. Alicia's blue eyes rounded in panic. She looked around and couldn't find Nicholas.
"Nicholas? Help!"
Alicia thrashed against the ropes, her heart racing as she searched for any sign of Nicholas. Her surroundings were unclear, shrouded in darkness, the only flickering source of light coming from a distant torch. And there was the sound of approaching feet.
The hoarse voice he heard earlier, now speaking again, this time closer, sent chills down his spine. "There is no point in calling Nicholas. He won't hear you."
Alicia's gaze flicked in the direction of the voice, her eyes adjusting to the dim light. A figure emerged from the shadows, cloaked and masked, exhaling an ominous aura of authority. Fear throbbed in her veins.
"Who are you? What do you want?" Her voice trembled as she struggled to maintain composure. "You cowardly bastard!"
The figure was silent for a moment, savoring her fear. "I've been waiting for you, Alicia," he finally replied, his words feeling chilling. "You hold the key to something far greater than you realize."
In this situation, Alicia tried to identify the figure as precisely as possible. He had a tall build, shoulders that were quite broad when covered by the cloak, and a face that wore a mask. He must be a man, Alicia thought. Of all the men she knew, who was involved in Michelle and Edward's deaths?
"What do you want, asshole?! Let me go! I'll kill you!"
"What did you say?" The man's laughter boomed, filling the dark and lonely silence of the forest. He seemed completely satisfied with Alicia who couldn't do anything. "Kill me? Let's see who dies first. Me, or you..."
Alicia's mind raced, trying to make sense of the cryptic message. Before she could answer, a sudden commotion echoed from a nearby room. Nicholas surfaced, his eyes wide with worry as he took in the scene.
"I won't let you hurt her!" Nicholas lunged forward, only to be held back by an invisible force, held back by an invisible barrier.
The figure turned towards Nicholas, a crooked smile playing at the edge of the mask. "Ah, Nicholas. Always the hero. But you cannot protect her from what is already in motion."
"Bastard!" Nicholas was about to run, chasing after the masked man. But gunshots rang out and Alicia couldn't help herself after seeing the scene before her.
"Nicholas!"
As the tension rose, Alicia understood that her journey had just begun.
"Nicholas, wake up! Help! Someone help us!"
CHAPTER 104The masked man laughed with satisfaction. He waved the gun in his hand and pointed the butt of the gun at Alicia."You will see everything you have disappear forever, Alicia," said the masked man.Nicholas had just been shot. He was shot in the leg, but the wound was enough to keep Nicholas from chasing the masked man who was now waving as he walked away from the two of them. The man's laughter was still haunting, as Alicia tried to untie the ropes that bound her."Nicholas! Nic, please!"A moaning voice was heard from Nicholas. The man was still lying on the ground with both hands clutching his shot right thigh. Blood filled his pants. He felt his thigh throbbing. It was very painful and Nicholas couldn't help it."Nicholas..."But Alicia's voice, which sounded worried, brought Nicholas to his senses. He tried to move his body, while turning slowly, he tried to see Alicia. "I'm... fine, Alicia. Noel will be here soon, he checked... arg! he checked the location of my cell
CHAPTER 105"Nicholas collapsed because he lost a lot of blood, but we have treated him. The bullet that was fired into his leg has also been removed, there are a few stitches in his skin but he will wake up soon." Doctor Harris explained in great detail to both Alicia and Noel, the man closed the small board he was using to record all the conditions and continued, "I think we'll move him from the ICU to an in-patient room soon. Can one of you take care of the paperwork?"Noel spoke first, he took a step. "Let me take care of that.""Alright," Doctor Harris said. The doctor then looked at Alicia, "You can wait for him while the hospital prepares a room for him.""Thank you, Doctor."Doctor Harris walked away first, while Noel followed behind. Alicia sat next to Nicholas. The man still had his eyes closed with a bandage covering his entire right thigh. Alicia looked at Nicholas even though he didn't know it.Alicia could not take her eyes off Nicholas who was lying there, fragile in th
CHAPTER 106Angela's footsteps stopped as she entered the meeting room of the chief commissioners. Her red heels perfectly matched the red dress she wore that afternoon. Her eyes, covered by Gucci glasses, scanned the surroundings. She looked at the important people in the room, before finally sitting down and clearing her throat softly."We can start the meeting now," Angela said. She was a strong and independent woman who, despite being fifty years old, was still a woman of strong character and conviction."Alright. We will open today's meeting with stock information regarding the plan to build a specialty hospital in the UK." Anna spoke formally. She stood with a folder in her left hand. Anna was Prof. Kyoto's secretary. A doctoral professor who was well-versed in the medical field. Anna walked to the large screen at the front of the room, pressed the remote button and started showing the results of the stock investment report for the construction of the hospital.Angela watched th
CHAPTER 107"Here's your dinner, Mr. Gray."A female nurse came in with a tray of food. She entered the room and placed the tray on the nightstand. Smiling flirtatiously, the female nurse looked at Nicholas with desire. She was especially aroused when she saw Nicholas' six-pack body clad in tight hospital clothes. They had run out of clothes that fit Nicholas' body size. And Nicholas felt uncomfortable with the nurse's gaze for him. What's more, Alicia was sitting there, observing them both with a curious expression. Alicia wanted to know how Nicholas would react if he was teased by a woman much older than him."Um, thank you," Nicholas said nervously. He was afraid of appearing to over-respond to the nurse.Nicholas' brown eyes shifted to Alicia, while scratching his head that was not itchy, Nicholas continued to say to the nurse. "I'll eat this with her."And the expression on the nurse's face changed one hundred and eighty degrees. The smile that looked mischievous, now disappeared
CHAPTER 108Ace was reading a book when Mike suddenly appeared and blocked the view. Ace looked at him for a moment, but looked away then. He wasn't in a good mood to talk, so ignoring the existence of Mike, Angela's man, was a good idea."You have to come with me now," Mike said in his stern voice.Ace realized that Mike was an undercover prison officer. He had been paid in full by his own mother to help Ace get out of that place. Everything about Alicia, Ace had seen. She had gotten out of prison with Mike's help. It was all Angela's plan. Angela used her money lavishly just so she could get more money from Ace.Ace closed the book slowly, his mind racing. He had suspected Angela's involvement in his release, but never understood the intricate web that revolved around her. Mike's arrival, confirming his suspicions, unraveled the thin thread of trust that remained."Mom paid you?" Ace's voice shook with a mixture of shock and betrayal.Mike's stern face softened slightly. "Look, Ace,
CHAPTER 109Noel was busy taking care of some paperwork when suddenly Hendrick came in with panicked steps. The thin man looked up, seeing Hendrick who was breathing heavily, he had finished running a hundred kilometers in one lap, and that confused Noel."What's the matter, Hendrick? You came here running, hm?"Noel's joke was ignored by Hendrick. The fat man was trying to catch his gasping breath, when he was finally able to speak again. "Ace Blake just escaped from prison!""What did you say?!"Noel's heart was racing. Ace Blake, the notorious criminal mastermind, had been languishing behind bars for masterminding some of the most daring murders in the history of New York City. His escape is causing trouble for everyone, especially for those who have met him.Hendrick, still breathing heavily, managed to catch his breath. "I was at the police station when the alarm went off. They found his cell empty. Looks like he had help from inside. I'm sorry, Detective."Noel's mind was racing
CHAPTER 110"You mean... we have to hide this news from the media?"Nicholas took a deep breath, then let it out as he looked at everyone inside the hospital's inpatient room. It was a VIP room, Nicholas had gotten it because Noel had requested it and taken care of all the paperwork. It was just the three of them now. Racing in panic and time that they didn't know the limits of."Give me two times twenty-four hours to find Ace," Nicholas said confidently. He was filled with anxiety, what if Ace would harm Alicia?"You can't do that, Nic!" Alicia refused. She bit her lip, looking just as panicked as Noel when he had just arrived. "Didn't you hear what Doctor Harris said? You need to rest for your wounds to heal."Nicholas glanced at the monitors around the room, their soft beeps echoing in the tense atmosphere. He knew Alicia was right - his wounds needed rest. But Ace's threat remained like a storm cloud, and he could not ignore its urgency."We're not going to hide it," Noel interjec
CHAPTER 111"I don't know if it's just my feelings or not, but it seems like... you have a problem with me. Isn't that right, Noel?"Noel looked away, he gave a short snort. For the first time Noel couldn't help himself and showed his true colors."If you have something to say, you can say it now." Alicia urged Noel. The woman couldn't fight her hunch any longer, she felt that Noel really hated her. "Are you angry with me?""Yes! Of course I am! I'm angry and annoyed with you!"Noel's raised voice took Nicholas by surprise. Nicholas immediately checked the change in expression on his lover's face for discomfort. Alicia must have been shocked by Noel's emotional attitude that day."Wait, wait. You don't have to yell like that, Noel," Nicholas whispered, not wanting things to get any messier. But Noel didn't want to stop. He pointed at Alicia, who was no taller than he was, and continued, "This whole mess was caused by Alicia, Nic. Why did you get shot, get caught up in a horrible seria
