CHAPTER 110
"You mean... we have to hide this news from the media?"
Nicholas took a deep breath, then let it out as he looked at everyone inside the hospital's inpatient room. It was a VIP room, Nicholas had gotten it because Noel had requested it and taken care of all the paperwork.
It was just the three of them now. Racing in panic and time that they didn't know the limits of.
"Give me two times twenty-four hours to find Ace," Nicholas said confidently. He was filled with anxiety, what if Ace would harm Alicia?
"You can't do that, Nic!" Alicia refused. She bit her lip, looking just as panicked as Noel when he had just arrived. "Didn't you hear what Doctor Harris said? You need to rest for your wounds to heal."
Nicholas glanced at the monitors around the room, their soft beeps echoing in the tense atmosphere. He knew Alicia was right - his wounds needed rest. But Ace's threat remained like a storm cloud, and he could not ignore its urgency.
"We're not going to hide it," Noel interjected, his voice sounding calm despite the chaos. "But we can control the narrative until we find Ace. Keep it simple, no hype."
Alicia's eyes glanced at the two men, her concern evident. "But what if Ace is after someone else while we wait?"
Nicholas thought in the room, his mind racing as he considered Alicia's words. This precarious situation was weighing heavily on him. "We can't wait, Alicia. We must act quickly, but we cannot risk your safety either."
Noel nodded in agreement. "We'll strategize carefully. Keep a low profile but ensure security around you. We won't let Ace get close to you or anyone else."
Alicia's eyes flickered between Nicholas and Noel, a mixture of fear and determination in her gaze. "I trust you two, but what is our plan?"
Nicholas halted his steps, there was a flash of determination in his eyes. "Noel, I need you to coordinate with the security team. Tighten up the covert measures. We'll make it look like a routine security upgrade because of the recent events."
Noel nodded, taking out his cell phone to make the necessary calls. Meanwhile, Nicholas approached Alicia, taking her hand gently. "We have to make it seem normal, but we'll be watching you every second. Trust us, Alicia. And from this moment on, you stay by my side no matter what happens."
Alicia nodded, her concern obvious, but she knew they didn't have much choice. "Okay, but what about Ace? How are you going to find him?"
Nicholas glanced towards the hospital window, his mind racing with possibilities. "I have contacts, people who might have leads. Noel and I will try to track him down while making sure your safety remains top priority."
But that was just the beginning of the plan. Nicholas had no way of predicting what dangers they would encounter.
They spent the next few hours strategizing, devising a plan that involved finding Ace and keeping Alicia safe.
"He's an influential person in the city, he must have great connections to be able to get such a light sentence and even escape from prison!" Alicia squealed. She hugged herself. "What is Ace's real purpose? If he really wanted to leave the prison, why didn't he do it in the first place? This must be someone else's plan."
Nicholas' mind raced with the complexity of Ace's sudden disappearance. "That's what we have to figure out. Ace might not have intended to escape; someone might have been playing around, manipulating the situation."
Noel, leaning against the wall, interjected, "Ace has always had a knack for being in the middle of trouble. But this time, it feels different. His movements seem directed, planned."
Alicia, her brows furrowed, she pondered, "Do you think he's being used as a pawn? A distraction for something bigger? But is it possible?"
Nicholas nodded. "That makes sense. Ace might just be a means to an end, just a pawn in a larger scheme."
Noel said, "We need to focus on his connections. Start with his inner circle. There may be people close to him who know more than they're revealing."
Nicholas pulled out a well-worn notebook, flipping through pages filled with scribbles and contacts. "We'll start with the people who owe Ace favors, the people who owe him favors."
Noel's gaze sharpened. "That's our lead. If Ace has enemies or unfinished business, they may have triggered this chain of events. But how do we determine that? Ace killed a lot of people, he must have a lot of enemies, right?"
As they gathered clues, the hospital room became their temporary headquarters, the unlikely trio pooling their wits and resources.
And the possibilities about the incident that happened were in their heads.
Nicholas then pointed at Noel and said, "What about Ace's parents?"
A small murmur escaped Noel's mouth. He who had been standing and leaning against the wall spoke up. "Mr. Wilson Blake seems to still be in a coma in the hospital and Mrs. Angela Vashylchenko is already in England. I think they have a complicated family relationship, so it's unlikely that they're involved."
But Alicia's strong intuition said otherwise, "Shouldn't we check on them first?"
"What do you expect from a comatose person and an old woman in a different country, Miss Perth?" Noel replied in a sarcastic tone that made Alicia uncomfortable.
Tension simmered in the room, growing thicker by the moment. Alicia's hunch, the instinct she had learned to trust, nudged her again. "I just think that this is worth investigating, even if it seems unlikely. Sometimes the truth hides in the most unexpected places."
Nicholas, the most rational among them, folded his arms. "We can't rule anything out at this point. Besides, it's possible that it's not about her parents, but something related to them."
Noel, who was known for his sharp conclusions, sighed. "Alright, we'll look into it, but it might be a dead end. We should be following clues, not wandering around chasing vague threads."
Alicia looked at Noel. "Why are you being sentimental about me, Noel? Do you have a problem with me?"
CHAPTER 111"I don't know if it's just my feelings or not, but it seems like... you have a problem with me. Isn't that right, Noel?"Noel looked away, he gave a short snort. For the first time Noel couldn't help himself and showed his true colors."If you have something to say, you can say it now." Alicia urged Noel. The woman couldn't fight her hunch any longer, she felt that Noel really hated her. "Are you angry with me?""Yes! Of course I am! I'm angry and annoyed with you!"Noel's raised voice took Nicholas by surprise. Nicholas immediately checked the change in expression on his lover's face for discomfort. Alicia must have been shocked by Noel's emotional attitude that day."Wait, wait. You don't have to yell like that, Noel," Nicholas whispered, not wanting things to get any messier. But Noel didn't want to stop. He pointed at Alicia, who was no taller than he was, and continued, "This whole mess was caused by Alicia, Nic. Why did you get shot, get caught up in a horrible seria
CHAPTER 112The roar of Nicholas' car driven by Noel caught Emma and Alan's attention. They were busy cooking in the kitchen when suddenly a noise filled their ears."It looks like Nicholas' car, let's go check it out!" said Emma, taking off her gloves. She grabbed Alan's hand and ran towards the main door. And sure enough, when Emma opened the door. She found Nicholas being carried by Noel. The sight shocked Emma. She covered her mouth as she shouted, "Oh my God, Nicholas!" Alan followed behind and tried to make way by pulling Emma, letting Nicholas enter with Noel, while Alicia walked behind the two. "What's going on here? You haven't been home for three days and now... look at you, you little brat!"Nicholas' ass had just landed on the sofa when Emma pinched his cheek hard. Nicholas moaned loudly while wrinkling his nose."Oh my God, Mom! You're making my cheek hurt," Nicholas said, protesting Emma's obliviousness to the situation. Emma immediately sat down next to Nicholas. "You d
CHAPTER 113Nicholas winced in pain as he walked to show Alicia her room. There was one empty room directly opposite Nicholas' room in the house. Emma and Alan, meanwhile, had different rooms in another corner. Nicholas opened the door to the room, turned on the light and let Alicia in."This is the guest room, you can stay here comfortably because my mom cleans it all the time." Nicholas smoothed the pillows on the bed. He shrugged his shoulders. "Well, she's like a cleaning robot who likes to clean everything."Alicia chuckled. She girded her loins and looked around. "I'll be comfortable here," she said, and sat on the edge of the bed. Nicholas followed her to sit beside her. Alicia noticed the change in expression on Nicholas' face and asked, "By the way, are you going to tell Emma about this case?""Emma already knows about everything. I mean, she doesn't know everything, but she definitely knows when I'm having a hard time," Nicholas explained. Nicholas sighed and took Alicia's h
CHAPTER 114Seeing Nicholas' worrying condition, Alan took the initiative to help them both on the way. Nicholas' father drove the car, while Alicia and Nicholas sat in the passenger seat.Brittany had sent an address, right where she and Kevin had gotten into a bad accident. He looked in bad shape and that worried Alicia. They arrived at the location after a fifteen-minute drive. They drove at high speed to get to Brittany's place and once they arrived, Alicia and Nicholas immediately got off to check on her.Alicia looked around, and the paramedics that Brittany had mentioned were nowhere to be seen. There was only a damaged car that had hit a tree on the side of the road. It was a single accident! As Alicia rushed towards the wreckage of the car, her heart raced. The car was eerily silent, the crumpled metal a clear testament to the impact. She called out to Brittany, her voice trembling with fear. Nicholas, despite his weakened state, rushed after her."Brittany! Brittany!""Over
CHAPTER 115Everyone went to the hospital to check on Brittany. Nicholas also called Noel so that he could catch up.Brittany and Kevin were treated in the emergency room as soon as they arrived at the hospital. Brittany's bleeding meant that she had to be admitted to the ICU as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Kevin only suffered a slight injury and a sprained leg.Kevin didn't talk even though Nicholas pressed him. Kevin was covering something up and this frustrated Nicholas."Sorry I'm late," Noel said, once he arrived at the hospital. He looked around. The atmosphere looked bad. Their faces didn't look happy at all. So Noel chimed in again, "Is Brittany okay? I was thinking of calling Paul, but I think it would be better to check on her first.""She's in the ICU, she's bleeding on her head."Noel nodded in agreement. "Then who is this guy?"The question was addressed to NIcholas after Noel saw Kevin. The three of them exchanged glances, until Alicia opened her mouth. "He's Brittany's
CHAPTER 116After a few hours, Kevin's parents finally arrived. Their arrival, Hailey and Louis, made Nicholas, Noel and Alicia who were sitting in the waiting chairs gasp. From where they were, they could see how Hailey immediately hugged Kevin and made sure that her son was okay, while Louis just patted Kevin's shoulder lightly while muttering words of support that they could guess. After a while, Nicholas and Noel went over. Nicholas cleared his throat while introducing himself. "Excuse me, are you Kevin's parents?"Hailey and Louis immediately turned to the source of the voice. They were quite surprised after Nicholas showed his ID card as a Chief in the NYPD."You're... a cop?" asked Hailey hesitantly."Yes, you're right." Nicholas nodded in agreement. "I'm sorry if we're interrupting the three of you, but we need to question your son about this accident. Kevin's close friend Brittany is still unconscious and we need to find out why."Hailey's facial expression changed quickly. S
CHAPTER 117As the argument between them didn't end, Kevin was allowed to go home on the condition that he would return after receiving a police summons. And to that end, during the investigation process, Kevin's passport and visa would be held to prevent him from traveling abroad or running away.Nicholas returned with Kevin's important documents in his hand. He sighed in front of Alicia and Noel, it sounded heavy."Today was really hard," he complained.Nicholas immediately sat down next to Alicia and straightened his leg which was still throbbing with pain from the gunshot wound in his right leg. While looking at the two people in front of him, Nicholas explained, "The important documents he has are in my hands, he won't be able to escape until he receives a warrant.""That's good," Noel said, then extended a hand. "Let me make the summons and report at the office."A nod of the head from Nicholas signaled his approval for Noel's actions. He said, "Thank you for all your help, Noel
CHAPTER 118In the dim forest, the sun could only sneak through the narrow gaps in the trees. The sun's rays that began to rise into the sky illuminated a large man in the middle of the forest. He crawled into the car he was driving. Struggling, he continued to crawl and reach for his cell phone that had fallen there. With one hand, he grabbed the phone, and with the last of his strength, he called someone using his cell phone."Hello, Mrs. Vashylchenko! It's me, M-Mike."[...]"A-Ace... he managed to escape. M-I'm sorry."****"Arg!!!!"Angela threw her cell phone against the wall while screaming hysterically. The two waiters who were preparing breakfast hurriedly covered their mouths and looked down in fear. Their boss was very angry. She had just received news about Ace running away. The only pawn she was expecting had just slipped out of the cage. The rope she had hooked to Ace's body had just been cut."Asshole! Asshole! Asshole!" The two maids could only back up until they hit t
