CHAPTER 117
As the argument between them didn't end, Kevin was allowed to go home on the condition that he would return after receiving a police summons. And to that end, during the investigation process, Kevin's passport and visa would be held to prevent him from traveling abroad or running away.
Nicholas returned with Kevin's important documents in his hand. He sighed in front of Alicia and Noel, it sounded heavy.
"Today was really hard," he complained.
Nicholas immediately sat down next to Alicia and straightened his leg which was still throbbing with pain from the gunshot wound in his right leg. While looking at the two people in front of him, Nicholas explained, "The important documents he has are in my hands, he won't be able to escape until he receives a warrant."
"That's good," Noel said, then extended a hand. "Let me make the summons and report at the office."
A nod of the head from Nicholas signaled his approval for Noel's actions. He said, "Thank you for all your help, Noel."
"I'll wait here for Brittany," Alicia said suddenly, which made everyone turn their eyes towards her.
As Alicia made her statement, a wave of confusion swept through the room. Nicholas furrowed his brow, studying Alicia's sudden determination. "Why wait here, Alicia?" he asked, his concern evident.
"I wanted to check Brittany's condition myself, Nic."
Nicholas nodded slowly, understanding the weight of the woman's words. "All right. But we have to make sure that you're safe, we can't forget about Amanda and Ace's threat," he said, a sense of responsibility in his tone.
Noel replied, his expression stern. "I'll have the team take care of her secretly. I'll go to the office and take you home, Nic."
Alicia managed a small smile, grateful for their support. "Thank you, Noel," she whispered, relief washing over her.
Meanwhile, Nicholas rose from his seat, slightly wincing at the pain in his leg. "Let's get this warrant done. We can't delay any longer," he said, determination in every word.
As the trio moved to deal with the upcoming legal matters, Alicia sat brooding, hoping fervently that this turbulent ordeal would soon reach a resolution, sparing her sister from its ill effects.
"You're going to go back home and rest, let me do all the work," Noel said.
"Alright, alright," NIcholas said with a resigned tone in the end.
Alicia sat next to Brittany who was still fast asleep. She hadn't regained consciousness since the accident. If we look at the time, it means that Brittany has been asleep for about three hours. This was probably due to the anesthetic given by the doctor to relieve the pain in Brittany's body.
Looking at Brittany's bruised and bandaged face, Alicia began to think about the possibilities of the accident.
"Why was Kevin in the bushes and Brittany in the car?" Alicia rubbed her chin, trying to think again. "The driver's side door was closed, while the passenger side door was wide open. Did Kevin leave Brittany there on purpose?"
These thoughts filled Alicia's head for a while, until she realized that it was getting late and drowsiness was setting in. Alicia fell asleep next to Brittany until morning.
Brittany's fingers at her side began to move and the movement brought Alicia to her senses. She blinked her eyes and adjusted her sitting position. Slowly, Brittany's eyes opened fully. Brittany winced at the pain in her head.
"Britt! Are you awake?"
Brittany turned to Alicia, like a slow motion scene in the movies.
"Alicia?" Brittany's voice sounded like a hoarse whisper, her gaze drifting past Alicia, lost in the sterile ceiling of the hospital room. Memories flowed back in disjointed pieces, the collision of senses, the creak of metal, the scent of gasoline, and then... darkness.
Alicia took Brittany's hand, her eyes filled with relief and worry. "Yes, it's me. You've been unconscious for hours. How are you feeling now? Feel better?"
Brittany's lips trembled, a faint shiver running through her body. "It hurts... everywhere." She grimaced, trying to adjust herself on the bed.
"Shhh, don't move too much," Alicia warned gently, noticing Brittany's discomfort. "Do you remember what happened?"
Brittany's brow furrowed, her gaze distant as if she were putting together a puzzle. "A little. That car... did it hit us?" Her voice wavered as she struggled to recall the events leading up to the accident. "Kevin... where's Kevin?"
Alicia hesitated, debating on how much to reveal. "You shouldn't think about Kevin, your health comes first."
Her mind went back to that chaotic moment: Kevin's parents' angry expressions, and how they insulted Brittany, then his sudden disappearance. Something wasn't right.
Brittany's eyes widened slightly, worry mixed with confusion. "Did he leave? Why?"
Alicia bit her lip, struggling for the right words. "I'm not sure. But I promise, I'll find out. Right now, the most important thing is that you're safe."
As Brittany's strength faltered, Alicia decided to dig deeper into what happened on that fateful day. She embarks on an investigative journey, retracing the moments leading up to the accident, unearthing buried secrets that intertwine Kevin, Brittany, and herself in ways she never expected. The more Alicia delves into the past, the more she realizes that the accident may not have been an accident at all. Dark revelations emerge, exposing hidden motives and betrayals, turning their lives into a gripping story of mystery, trust, and the unexpected consequences of choices made in desperation.
"Why, Britt? Do you have something to say?" Alicia looked at Brittany curiously, noticing that Brittany seemed to have something on her mind.
"Um, actually... me and Kevin, the accident..."
"The accident? What about the accident?"
Brittany held her breath, the weight of her words on the tip of her tongue, before saying, "Kevin was driving our car, Alicia."
Alicia's face looked relieved. Her thoughts about the possibility that Kevin had crashed the car on purpose had finally been proven. Kevin must be covering up something bigger than this. But, what is that exactly, Alicia needs to know right now.
CHAPTER 118In the dim forest, the sun could only sneak through the narrow gaps in the trees. The sun's rays that began to rise into the sky illuminated a large man in the middle of the forest. He crawled into the car he was driving. Struggling, he continued to crawl and reach for his cell phone that had fallen there. With one hand, he grabbed the phone, and with the last of his strength, he called someone using his cell phone."Hello, Mrs. Vashylchenko! It's me, M-Mike."[...]"A-Ace... he managed to escape. M-I'm sorry."****"Arg!!!!"Angela threw her cell phone against the wall while screaming hysterically. The two waiters who were preparing breakfast hurriedly covered their mouths and looked down in fear. Their boss was very angry. She had just received news about Ace running away. The only pawn she was expecting had just slipped out of the cage. The rope she had hooked to Ace's body had just been cut."Asshole! Asshole! Asshole!" The two maids could only back up until they hit t
CHAPTER 119Alicia pulled up a chair, coming closer. She looked at Brittany's face, which looked like it was in pain with a Band-Aid covering her head. Now and then Brittany blinked her eyes, so she could see further than the view she was now seeing."Kevin and I... fought."Brittany's soft voice drew Alicia's attention. Alicia grasped her best friend's hand, she looked at her intensely and her ears listened carefully."But that incident... I saw Kevin having an affair, Alicia," Brittany continued. The girl swallowed, struggling to form the words to tell her story. "I wanted to take his cell phone, but he wouldn't let me do it. And all of a sudden, Kevin slammed the steering wheel to the side of the road.""I saw that you were badly hurt, Britt. But Kevin...""Is he okay?"Alicia nodded her head, then continued to explain. "Did Kevin drive the car into the tree?" Brittany nodded her head in agreement. "Kevin... accidentally hit the tree and aimed it at your seat, didn't he?"Again, Br
CHAPTER 120Kevin sits with Hailey and Louis at the dining table. A variety of food was available there, including salads, sandwiches, steaks and fresh fruits that had just been served by the maid in the house. The food looked good, although the atmosphere between them suddenly turned uncomfortable. The usual small talk that Louis used to make to Kevin, asking how he was doing in college or how his experiments were progressing, was nowhere to be heard.Everything was hidden behind an awkward silence. They were all silent, staring at each other, letting the aroma of food waft into their nostrils without them eating at all.It wasn't until five minutes later that Louis cleared his throat and opened the conversation. "Kevin, let's talk."Kevin's face lifted. He looked up at his father who was sitting at the dining table dressed all in brown, with a relaxed gaze. His face showed no remorse or guilt."Is it true that you caused the accident that night?" Louis was to the point. And the youn
CHAPTER 121Dr. Benneth entered the room and began to examine Brittany. Alicia, who had just finished cleaning herself, entered the room and greeted Dr. Benneth with a nurse named Christine. Alicia put her hands in her pockets when she came face to face with Dr. Benneth and after Dr. Benneth finished with the notes in his hand, he greeted Alicia."Did you just finish your breakfast, Ms. Alicia?"Dr. Benneth accepted Alicia's identity as Brittany's guardian because Brittany's parents were out of the country and would be returning to New York later that evening. Alicia was fine with the paperwork and everything, as long as she could confirm for herself that Brittany was okay.Alicia nodded, agreeing with the doctor's question. "Yes, Doc. How is Brittany doing, by the way?"The man in the white coat muttered under his breath. He looked at Brittany who was also looking at him curiously.Dr. Benneth glanced at Alicia before turning his attention back to Brittany. He adjusted his glasses an
CHAPTER 122As Alicia prepared to leave, Brittany's weak voice stopped her. "One more thing, Alicia. Be careful who you trust. Not everyone is who they seem.""What do you mean, is this about Kevin?"And Brittany nodded in agreement.Alicia's small smile was there. "You don't have to worry. I'll keep you safe from him."Alicia's mind was filled with questions, but before she could answer, the door creaked open, and Kevin stepped inside, a mix of concern and determination etched on his face.Alicia and Brittany were equally surprised there. They hadn't expected Kevin to come to see Brittany at all. See, he didn't even seem to feel guilty at all after the accident. Kevin stood in the center of the room in a short gray shirt and fancy black pants. He's clutching a fresh bunch of red roses that seem to match his formal style. And a smile, etched on Kevin's lips."Hello, Britt. Haven't seen you in a while.""What are you doing here?!" Brittany held back her anger, while Alicia was still sc
CHAPTER 123Nicholas had just finished parking his car in the hospital parking lot. He looked much better today and the wound on his leg was getting better. While reflecting in the rearview mirror, Nicholas also gelled his hair, making sure that the direction of his hair still looked good and that it made him cool.He got out of the car after grabbing a package of fresh fruits from the passenger seat. All that fruit to cheer Brittany up. Because there's nothing better than hearing the news that your family has woken up from a moment of death. Nicholas then walked towards the hospitalization room that Brittany used. He had a confident look on his face as he walked through the hallways. The hospital was busy in the morning, as they were about to open their outpatient services and various other medical treatments for patients. But Nicholas' focus did not change. He didn't have to limp anymore, his legs were much better. And when he opened the door to Brittany's room, the eager expression
CHAPTER 124"I brought you some fruit."Nicholas placed the bouquet of fresh fruit from the nearby shop on the table, next to the few items Brittany had stored there. The heated atmosphere made the people in the room reluctant to comment. Especially Alicia and Brittany. They seemed to be trapped in a confused silence ever since Kevin had left the room. There was nothing Nicholas could do but mediate between the two women who both kept their mouths shut. He cleared his throat softly. "Uhm, anyway... you guys should stop keeping your mouths shut and start talking to each other." The smile on Nicholas' gray lips rose to warm the atmosphere. He did not want the two women before him to get into a cold war. "Alright, I'll start first. So... Kevin came to see Brittany, he brought her a huge bouquet of red roses and well, it was nice for the view, but why do you three suddenly seem to be caught in a complicated love triangle?"Silence was still the answer to Nicholas' question. They both kept
CHAPTER 125"I'm going to go check on Ace's case, but you don't have to worry because I brought a policeman to look after Brittany here," Noel explained. And Brittany nodded in agreement. She looked at everyone and explained, "My parents will also be here later tonight. I think I'll be fine. You guys just focus on finding evidence or anything that can help me get out of this accident."Nicholas nodded. He waved and said goodbye, before taking Alicia away with him. The two of them then drove home in a car driven by Nicholas."This is for you," Nicholas said, handing Alicia a plastic bag of sandwiches. Playing with his eyebrows up and down, Nicholas smiled happily. "I told you that I would buy these sandwiches again, didn't I?""Tsk, gosh, Nic." Alicia accepted the sandwich and they had breakfast together in the car. After finishing the sandwich in less than ten minutes, Nicholas started the engine and drove away from the hospital. Alicia fastened her seatbelt and looked through the car
