One Hundred and Seventeen

CHAPTER 117

As the argument between them didn't end, Kevin was allowed to go home on the condition that he would return after receiving a police summons. And to that end, during the investigation process, Kevin's passport and visa would be held to prevent him from traveling abroad or running away.

Nicholas returned with Kevin's important documents in his hand. He sighed in front of Alicia and Noel, it sounded heavy.

"Today was really hard," he complained.

Nicholas immediately sat down next to Alicia and straightened his leg which was still throbbing with pain from the gunshot wound in his right leg. While looking at the two people in front of him, Nicholas explained, "The important documents he has are in my hands, he won't be able to escape until he receives a warrant."

"That's good," Noel said, then extended a hand. "Let me make the summons and report at the office."

A nod of the head from Nicholas signaled his approval for Noel's actions. He said, "Thank you for all your help, Noel."

"I'll wait here for Brittany," Alicia said suddenly, which made everyone turn their eyes towards her.

As Alicia made her statement, a wave of confusion swept through the room. Nicholas furrowed his brow, studying Alicia's sudden determination. "Why wait here, Alicia?" he asked, his concern evident.

"I wanted to check Brittany's condition myself, Nic."

Nicholas nodded slowly, understanding the weight of the woman's words. "All right. But we have to make sure that you're safe, we can't forget about Amanda and Ace's threat," he said, a sense of responsibility in his tone.

Noel replied, his expression stern. "I'll have the team take care of her secretly. I'll go to the office and take you home, Nic."

Alicia managed a small smile, grateful for their support. "Thank you, Noel," she whispered, relief washing over her.

Meanwhile, Nicholas rose from his seat, slightly wincing at the pain in his leg. "Let's get this warrant done. We can't delay any longer," he said, determination in every word.

As the trio moved to deal with the upcoming legal matters, Alicia sat brooding, hoping fervently that this turbulent ordeal would soon reach a resolution, sparing her sister from its ill effects.

"You're going to go back home and rest, let me do all the work," Noel said.

"Alright, alright," NIcholas said with a resigned tone in the end.

Alicia sat next to Brittany who was still fast asleep. She hadn't regained consciousness since the accident. If we look at the time, it means that Brittany has been asleep for about three hours. This was probably due to the anesthetic given by the doctor to relieve the pain in Brittany's body.

Looking at Brittany's bruised and bandaged face, Alicia began to think about the possibilities of the accident.

"Why was Kevin in the bushes and Brittany in the car?" Alicia rubbed her chin, trying to think again. "The driver's side door was closed, while the passenger side door was wide open. Did Kevin leave Brittany there on purpose?"

These thoughts filled Alicia's head for a while, until she realized that it was getting late and drowsiness was setting in. Alicia fell asleep next to Brittany until morning.

Brittany's fingers at her side began to move and the movement brought Alicia to her senses. She blinked her eyes and adjusted her sitting position. Slowly, Brittany's eyes opened fully. Brittany winced at the pain in her head.

"Britt! Are you awake?"

Brittany turned to Alicia, like a slow motion scene in the movies.

"Alicia?" Brittany's voice sounded like a hoarse whisper, her gaze drifting past Alicia, lost in the sterile ceiling of the hospital room. Memories flowed back in disjointed pieces, the collision of senses, the creak of metal, the scent of gasoline, and then... darkness.

Alicia took Brittany's hand, her eyes filled with relief and worry. "Yes, it's me. You've been unconscious for hours. How are you feeling now? Feel better?"

Brittany's lips trembled, a faint shiver running through her body. "It hurts... everywhere." She grimaced, trying to adjust herself on the bed.

"Shhh, don't move too much," Alicia warned gently, noticing Brittany's discomfort. "Do you remember what happened?"

Brittany's brow furrowed, her gaze distant as if she were putting together a puzzle. "A little. That car... did it hit us?" Her voice wavered as she struggled to recall the events leading up to the accident. "Kevin... where's Kevin?"

Alicia hesitated, debating on how much to reveal. "You shouldn't think about Kevin, your health comes first."

Her mind went back to that chaotic moment: Kevin's parents' angry expressions, and how they insulted Brittany, then his sudden disappearance. Something wasn't right.

Brittany's eyes widened slightly, worry mixed with confusion. "Did he leave? Why?"

Alicia bit her lip, struggling for the right words. "I'm not sure. But I promise, I'll find out. Right now, the most important thing is that you're safe."

As Brittany's strength faltered, Alicia decided to dig deeper into what happened on that fateful day. She embarks on an investigative journey, retracing the moments leading up to the accident, unearthing buried secrets that intertwine Kevin, Brittany, and herself in ways she never expected. The more Alicia delves into the past, the more she realizes that the accident may not have been an accident at all. Dark revelations emerge, exposing hidden motives and betrayals, turning their lives into a gripping story of mystery, trust, and the unexpected consequences of choices made in desperation.

"Why, Britt? Do you have something to say?" Alicia looked at Brittany curiously, noticing that Brittany seemed to have something on her mind.

"Um, actually... me and Kevin, the accident..."

"The accident? What about the accident?"

Brittany held her breath, the weight of her words on the tip of her tongue, before saying, "Kevin was driving our car, Alicia."

Alicia's face looked relieved. Her thoughts about the possibility that Kevin had crashed the car on purpose had finally been proven. Kevin must be covering up something bigger than this. But, what is that exactly, Alicia needs to know right now.
