CHAPTER 145
Just as Nicholas had said when saying goodbye to Noel, that he would drop Alicia off first before returning to his work. And here Nicholas was, standing waiting for Alicia to unlock the door to her own flat. Alicia turned around and smiled. "I'll be fine, you can go now."
But Nicholas smiled and took Alicia's hand. Alicia frowned with a confused expression, what else would Nicholas do? Nicholas then put down a gray whistle necklace and placed it on Alicia's palm. Alicia looked up, seeing Nicholas' face with a curious look on it.
"What is this?"
"It's a present for you."
Alicia's eyebrows furrowed. She chuckled. "A whistle?"
"You can blow it if you're in danger and I'll come right away."
Nicholas' words made Alicia smile. Her cheeks turned a tinge of red as she felt embarrassed. It was blushing! Her chest warmed up whenever Nicholas said sweet words that touched her. It had been a long time since she had gotten that feeling, even when Alicia was with Ace, Alicia could not feel such careful and warm love like this.
Alicia quickly grasped the whistle and put it around her neck like a necklace. She raised the whistle into the air and started blowing it so hard that it made Nicholas shudder in surprise. Nicholas covered his ears as he laughed. "You have to blow it away from me, Alicia."
"I'm just testing it. It sounds good, doesn't it?" teased Alicia, who then laughed in her place.
"Alright, I'm going to the hospital now. I'll help Noel check the victim's DNA sample and if we manage to find his identity, then I should immediately contact the family of the dealing person."
Alicia pinched Nicholas' nose lightly, then turned his face forward while muttering, "Okay. I accept your report."
"See you soon, Alicia."
"Goodbye. Take care and... let me know when you get to the hospital, I want to make sure you're safe."
Nicholas nodded in agreement. He rubbed the top of Alicia's head, then smiled before the man completely left. "Lock your door. I'm leaving now."
"Sure."
Nicholas left Alicia and got into his car alone. This was the first time they had parted ways after Ace's appearance incident. Deep in Nicholas' heart, he was still very worried about Ace suddenly appearing and hurting Alicia. But his work at the police station couldn't wait either. Noel would be overwhelmed with cases that happened so close together.
Death. It was like daily food for Nicholas. But later, Nicholas learns that death is also Alicia's daily diet. Her mentality was formed by necessity. She was strong because of circumstances. But she was already twenty years old, she would never be able to find adoptive parents again and had to live her adult life alone now. Alicia had to grow up, and earn money for her own living. And Nicholas felt sorry for that.
"Noel!"
The voice of Nicholas, who had just arrived at the hospital, made Noel and Hendrick turn around. Nicholas approached the two, and then realized that Hendrick was involved. "You're here too, I didn't see you on the beach earlier."
Hendrick laughed softly, he shoved both hands into his pants pockets and replied, "I went to help the tourists back to their hotel. They were witnesses, so Noel asked me to accompany them until they felt better."
Nicholas frowned. "Are they in good condition?"
"They're quite shocked. The sisters' vacation ended horribly. They will definitely be afraid to return to New York after this incident," Hendrick explained.
"By the way, what about the DNA samples? Did we manage to find the victim's identity?"
DNA analysis was underway when Nicholas arrived at the hospital. Noel, who was busy with his report, motioned for Nicholas to join him at the lab table. "We have a partial match, but nothing conclusive yet," Noel explained, his gaze fixed on the screen.
Nicholas leaned in, studying the results. "Any clues?"
"It's confusing; this person's background seems to be intentionally obscured. We need more time." Noel furrowed his brows, he seemed to be thinking. "Seeing that the stones were placed on the abdomen and tied up, doesn't that mean the killer wanted to clearly show the victim's cause of death?"
"You're right. We should do an autopsy on the victim," Nicholas suggested.
Hendrick interrupted, "We should check the local missing persons report. That might help narrow down our search for identity." Nicholas and Noel nodded in agreement. "It will speed up the process of applying for an autopsy if we manage to find the identity."
Noel nodded, accepting the suggestion. "Good idea. Hendrick, can you handle it? I'll help Nicholas with the DNA results. we'll wait for an explanation from the team inside."
Hendrick nodded in agreement. "Alright. I'll go back to check the surroundings. But seeing as the body was found on the shore, and quite far from the usual position of the tourists, I think it means that the man's body came from far away."
"Water always carries something from a high place to a low place, but the water on the beach will move because of the waves. This is really difficult. Is it possible that he was thrown from the cliff on the other side of the beach?" Nicholas ran through the possibilities in his head. "Noel, can you check the area of the cliffs or hills surrounding the beach?"
"It'll be difficult, but I'll do it."
Nicholas, Hendrick, and Noel united under the blazing sun of the coastal town, determined to unravel the riddle surrounding the grim discovery. As they delve deeper into the investigation, the layers of mystery thicken, weaving a tension filled intrigue.
Hendrick, an experienced local officer, scours city records for missing persons, while Nicholas and Noel pursue the scientific path, delving into the complex maze of DNA analysis and crime scene reconstruction.
As the days pass, the setting sun paints the sky orange, while the team tirelessly pieces together the puzzle. Their investigation leads them to a strange discovery - an elusive past shrouded in secrecy, a victim seemingly erased from the world.
In the sterile light of the laboratory, Noel found a breakthrough. "Nicholas, look at this!" She pointed to a screen displaying a link-a vague but crucial link in a convoluted chain of evidence. "This DNA," Nicholas murmured, his eyes fixed on the screen, "is not completely unknown. There is a familial link to someone we know... that would be Jill."
CHAPTER 146Their focus turned to Hendrick, who returned with a wealth of information. "I found a missing person's report similar to our victim's but covered in contradictions. The person's whereabouts seem to have been carefully erased. After some digging, it's Jill and her daughter."The trio gathered again, maps lying on the table, tracing the topography of the coastal cliffs. "There's a remote area," Hendrick pointed, "rarely accessed, overlooking the beach. If the victim was thrown from there, it might explain the cut-off of access to a commonly visited tourist spot."A shiver of revelation ran through Nicholas. "What if this isn't just a murder? What if this is a message?" The pieces seemed to align, painting a sinister picture of calculated manipulation.Noel nodded, determination etched on his face. "Let's explore that side of the cliff. There might be something we're missing, a clue that connects everything."Nicholas took a deep breath. He looked at his two partners in turn,
CHAPTER 147Nicholas sighed in the cold air. He took out a scarf from inside his black coat and started tying it around his neck. His body was beginning to be exposed to the cold air of the day's winter. It was already afternoon. The strong wind carried from the beach greeted his freely exposed face there. She looked around. His breathing began to become labored due to the depletion of oxygen. While catching his breath, Nicholas scanned the surroundings. In front of him stood a simple-looking house. It was on the other side of the cliff. Nicholas took out the drawing made by Lily, Jill's daughter, and held it up in the air. He looked at the drawing, then at the house behind it in turn. Nicholas also rotated his point of view, so that he could see the sea from a different direction. And the more Nicholas observed, the more he was convinced that it was the same position."This is the house. Let's take a look."Nicholas prepared himself, he put the picture into his coat pocket, meanwhile
CHAPTER 148Alicia sat enjoying a bowl of blueberry and strawberry yogurt sprinkled with raisins while watching television. The weather outside was unfriendly and Alicia could only stay in her own flat. Occasionally glancing at the cell phone on the table, she waited for a message from Nicholas. It had been a whole day since Nicholas had left, but he hadn't texted or called.Alicia's strong intuition told her that something was up. But Alicia chose to hold back this time. She stirred the yogurt into the bowl and started eating it. The television shows no longer interested her. Alicia changed the channel several times and still found no interesting shows. It was just gossip and entertainment shows that didn't calm Alicia down. After finishing her snack, Alicia went to the kitchen and cleaned her hands. She then went to her room and locked the door. The large windows in her room were not covered with curtains, so Alicia could see the snowfall that fell on the earth that day. The time on
CHAPTER 149There is nothing more uncomfortable than managing several cases at the same time. Nicholas sat in the corner, massaging his forehead which was beginning to throb with pain. It was like he had a migraine. His head was filled with the horrible cases that had just happened. But of all the cases, Nicholas realized something... that their deaths pivoted on Alicia. The girl he loved."I didn't know that being in charge would give me such a headache," Nicholas muttered in the middle of the meeting.Noel glanced at Nicholas, then at Hendrick and Peter who were also in the same room. "Well, you're too modest. You not only have a headache but you've been shot. Did you forget that?""Thanks for reminding me, Noel," Nicholas replied sarcastically.Everyone laughed quietly. They knew that Nicholas had really had a bad day all week since gaining his new status as Chief.Instead of enjoying a lighter life due to less work, Nicholas had gotten into a lot of trouble in a fairly short time.
CHAPTER 150Noel is initially confused by Nicholas' request, but Noel also believes that Nicholas must have thought about this seriously. This series of serial killings could be connected to each other, and they needed to find the common thread to put the missing pieces together."None of this started this year," Nicholas said thoughtfully. He pointed at the large white board in front of him and sighed. "It all started when we solved the death case at Golden High School a few years ago."Hendrick and Peter, who were not handling the case, could only listen. They had heard about the case but weren't really involved as they were just regular cops. Meanwhile, Noel cocked his head when he saw Nicholas. Nicholas nodded reassuringly."Yes, that's right. Since all of this is related to Alicia, then everything should start from there. Golden High School!" Nicholas snapped his fingers in the air, then pointed at Peter. "Peter, please get the Golden High School serial killer file, it's on the c
CHAPTER 151"But Amanda..." Noel hesitated, remembering the unresolved thread in their theory."Amanda's disappearance complicates things," Nicholas admitted. "Her past story with Alicia might make her a potential player in this mess. But Amanda is long gone, let's leave her behind for a moment. She'll be seen if she's really involved."As the pieces of the puzzle began to fit, Nicholas stood up, a flash of determination visible in his eyes. "We're going to track down Ace and uncover the truth behind these interconnected tragedies. That's the only way to end this sinister tale."Noel and Hendrick exchanged determined glances, ready to dive into the web of events that had unfolded over the years, all connected by a common thread that led to Alicia."Speaking of which... I got some news, Chief," Hendrick said, cutting in hesitantly. "I heard that... Wilson Blake has recovered from his coma. I heard the news yesterday from an informant. And my informant linked it to the capture of the CC
CHAPTER 152"Did you like the omelet I made?"Nicholas chewed the remaining food in his mouth, then nodded. All of Alicia's dishes were delicious and Nicholas agreed to express this to Alicia. "It's delicious. Your food is always good. Did you fry the onions?""Yes, I did a little experiment. I hope you like it.""It's delicious, believe me," Nicholas said, nodding his head. They finished their breakfast in just a few minutes. Nicholas had been staying with Alicia for the past few days, for her safety. Alicia was still waiting for the inheritance from her parents, so she felt the need to earn money until it was given to her.Alicia knew that Michelle and Edward cared about her because they were related to her previous foster parents. Alicia had heard that they were old friends in the past, there was an unpaid debt and they returned the favor by adopting Alicia. So all events involving Alicia's parents would always be related to Alicia."Last night... weren't you worried?"Alicia blink
CHAPTER 153"Look, Ace killed your schoolmates because he failed to kill you, that's according to Ace and that statement was taken as his testimony in the Golden High School serial murder trial, then the campus murders, the people he killed... it was all related to his family. The people who failed or tried to destroy his family, he'd kill."Alicia tilted her head and folded her arms across her chest. "What are you trying to say, Nick?""It means Ace kills with purpose, he has a goal. He doesn't kill outright like all the psychopaths out there. He just kills for the sake of it, but the masked man who shot me in the woods, he's very aggressive and without calculation. They are two different people.""Are you starting to find a common thread?""I believe they are two different people." Nicholas raised his finger, forming a V in the air. "These two different people worked together.""Are they men?""Of course. He is definitely a man. He broke into the prison to help Ace escape, but he mu
