One Hundred and Fifteen

CHAPTER 115

Everyone went to the hospital to check on Brittany. Nicholas also called Noel so that he could catch up.

Brittany and Kevin were treated in the emergency room as soon as they arrived at the hospital. Brittany's bleeding meant that she had to be admitted to the ICU as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Kevin only suffered a slight injury and a sprained leg.

Kevin didn't talk even though Nicholas pressed him. Kevin was covering something up and this frustrated Nicholas.

"Sorry I'm late," Noel said, once he arrived at the hospital. He looked around. The atmosphere looked bad. Their faces didn't look happy at all. So Noel chimed in again, "Is Brittany okay? I was thinking of calling Paul, but I think it would be better to check on her first."

"She's in the ICU, she's bleeding on her head."

Noel nodded in agreement. "Then who is this guy?"

The question was addressed to NIcholas after Noel saw Kevin. The three of them exchanged glances, until Alicia opened her mouth. "He's Brittany's boyfriend, he was in an accident with Brittany. But until this moment, he's still silent."

Kevin didn't like the way Alicia described herself in front of the two policemen. He stared intently at Alicia, but Alicia wasn't scared at all.

The tension in the hospital room felt very real, thick with worry and unspoken secrets. As Kevin sat there, his mind raced, fighting the urge to reveal the truth while grappling with the consequences of his silence. Brittany's condition weighed heavily on everyone, overshadowing an already tense situation.

Nicholas, with mixed feelings of concern and frustration, approached Kevin again. "Kevin, whatever is going on out there, it's very important that we know about it. It may be very important for Brittany's treatment. You can trust us."

Kevin's eyes flickered, torn between loyalty and fear of revealing the truth. He opened his mouth as if to speak, but his gaze went to Alicia, who seemed to be observing his every move.

Noel, sensing the unease in the room, tried to ease the tension. "Look, we all want what's best for Brittany. If something's not right, we need to know. This might help."

Just then, the door creaked open, and a nurse entered, followed by a doctor. The nurse gave them a quick glance, her eyes fixed on Kevin, registering an unspoken tension. The doctor, flipping through a file, said to them, "I'm Dr. Bennett. Brittany's condition is stable for now, but the cause of her injury remains unclear. Any information you can provide might help us understand and treat her better."

Everyone threw their eyes at Kevin, but Kevin replied with a flat expression that no one could guess.

"Well, if you don't have any questions, I'll be leaving now. Brittany will be moved to the infirmary in an hour, so you can keep her company while she waits," Dr. Bennett said and left.

There was silence before Alicia finally made her move. She suddenly approached Kevin and raised her face defiantly.

Making Kevin frown with a confused expression. "What are you doing?"

"I should be asking you, what did you do to Brittany, hm?"

Alicia's accusation hung heavy in the air, filling the room with unexpected intensity. Kevin's confused expression slowly turned into a mixture of shock and offense. "What? Alicia, you can't possibly think that I have anything to do with this!"

Nicholas stepped forward, his voice calm yet firm. He held Alicia's shoulders which seemed to tremble slightly. "Alicia, accusing without evidence will not help Brittany. Let's deal with this sensibly."

Alicia's eyes blazed with determination. "I know what I saw. You and Brittany... you have problems in your relationship."

Kevin's jaw tightened, his gaze flicking between the others. "That doesn't mean anything. We argue all the time. It's part of our dynamic."

Noel, sensing the rising tension, intervened gently. "Please, let's all calm down. Accusations won't help Brittany's recovery. We need to focus on helping her."

Nicholas nodded, trying to ease the mounting tension. "We all care about Brittany. Let's think about this together, calmly. Alicia, please listen to me this time."

In the midst of the tension-filled atmosphere, a series of flashbacks flashed through Alicia's mind, moments from the past that until now had not been clearly visible. She took a deep breath, her voice wavering. "I... I just want to know he's going to be okay." Alicia pointed at Kevin. "But this guy... who claims he's her boyfriend, doesn't care at all!"

"What am I supposed to do? Don't you see I've got a sprained leg here too?" Kevin replied indifferently.

Alicia's heart was racing with mixed feelings of anger and concern. She hadn't expected the confrontation to escalate this quickly. Kevin's dismissive attitude upset Alicia, but she knew there was more at stake than their argument.

Noel tried to defuse the situation once again, his soothing voice easing the tension. "Don't forget why we're here. Brittany needs our support right now. Alicia, I know you're worried, but we can't jump to conclusions."

Nicholas looked around him, feeling the weight of the situation weighing on them. He had thought of many things, but the problems just wouldn't stop coming at him. It was really stressful, but he said, "We are a team. We've been through a lot together. We have to figure this out, for Brittany's sake." Nicholas looked at Alicia, "For now, let's wait for Brittany's condition first. She needs to recover and that's our top priority."

As the room fell silent, Alicia's mind returned to the fragments of memories that had been haunting her. She closed her eyes, trying to make sense of the flashes. Faces, words, gestures-all jumbled together in her mind, trying to form a clear picture.

Noel nodded emphatically. "It's not about blaming each other. We need to support each other through this. Alicia, maybe we can piece together what happened, without jumping to conclusions. "Alicia took a deep breath, her resolve growing stronger. "Okay. Let's focus on Brittany. But we can't ignore what happened between you two. I'll be watching you, Kevin."
