CHAPTER 19

Golden High.

As the name suggests, Golden High School is indeed like gold. The boarding-based school was too precious for its owner. It was like a treasure. Not only because many of the children came from wealthy families, but also because Golden High School would be dominated by investors who were willing to spend millions of dollars just for an annual event. By the way, Golden High School had some formal rules that everyone in it had to abide by. One of them is that students must enter the dormitory before ten o'clock at night. The main lights in the dormitory will be turned off at ten o'clock at night. And the security guards would make their rounds at eleven o'clock, to make sure that the students were back in their rooms.

But this rule disturbed Alicia and Brittany's plans. Alicia looked at the clock on her left hand warily, occasionally hesitating. Meanwhile, Brittany was much more frightened because she had to do something she had never done before.

Alicia and Brittany sat on their respective beds, exchanging glances. The clock in their hands or the clock on the wall was something they had been keeping an eye on for the past thirty minutes and the time on the clock pointed to eleven. The footsteps of the security guards could already be heard passing by outside. They were on patrol and Alicia and Brittany needed to wait.

The doorknob turned, and someone tried to open it from outside. But Alicia had already locked it, and not long after that, a man spoke outside the door. "The room is locked, they're already inside."

"Okay, let's go."

The footsteps of the two security guards could be heard moving away. It seemed that they had finished patrolling, as the time on the wall clock, as well as on Alicia's watch, had already passed the limit of the day's patrol hours.

Alicia looked up after checking her watch. "I think it's time, Brittany."

There was nothing Brittany could do but nod in agreement. This plan had been in the works since yesterday. They would go out, sneak around like thieves and reach their destination. It sounded simple, despite the fact that nothing in this world was ever really easy.

Brittany stood up first, Alicia following after her. They opened the locked room and peered around. There was no one in the hallway. It was quite quiet and the lights had gone out. Only a few small lights remained, just like any other night.

They were about to leave when Brittany's hand tugged on Alicia's sleeve. Alicia turned around and gave Brittany a reassuring look. "What's wrong, Britt?"

"Oh my God, do we have to do this?" Brittany whispered nervously. She looked around biting her lip. "I'm scared."

Alicia tapped Brittany lightly on the shoulder and whispered, "Calm down, we can do it," she said encouragingly. Alicia's face did look confident when compared to Brittany who was starting to tremble now. "I'll go with you, so don't worry about anything. Okay?"

Brittany shuddered in horror. Not only was the hallway already quite dark, but the fear of being caught by the elites was also on her mind. "What if we get caught, Alicia? They'll surely punish us severely, or even report us to our parents."

Alicia looked at him seriously. "Trust me. We can do it." She reached forward, and looked at Brittany expectantly. "You believe me, don't you?"

I don't know where they got the idea to do this. But eventually Brittany got involved. She wanted to know the cause of James' death. And she also wanted to know, why James?

Brittany, who saw Alicia's enthusiasm and confidence, became a little bolder. She then made up her mind and went on the secret mission that Ace had planned earlier. She accepted Alicia's hand and held on in the darkness.

The two girls tiptoed cautiously towards Ace's room, which was located in room 017. Alicia and Brittany's eyes suddenly sharpened as they scanned their surroundings.

As soon as they arrived, Brittany knocked on Ace's room several times. "Ace, open up!" Britt said in a half-whisper.

And shortly after, Ace's bedroom door opened. It revealed a well-proportioned man wearing only a nightshirt and red knee-length shorts. He smiled warmly as his eyes found Alicia in the doorway. "Alicia," he greeted her kindly. "You made it!"

Brittany sniggered, "'Sigh, more on that later," and pushed Ace's body that was blocking the entrance out of the way. "Move!"

The blonde-haired girl rounded her eyes as soon as she arrived in the room. She was staring in amazement at the contents of Ace's room - the dormitory owner's son - in front of her. Apparently, Ace got special treatment here. A bigger bed, modern air conditioning, his study room, and even a super-sophisticated TV mounted on the wall.

Ace cleared his throat, "You're in our way, Britt."

"Oh, shit!" Britt, who woke up from her trance, immediately shifted and approached Ace's bed. Her fit body then sat on the edge of the mattress without excuse. "They really spoiled you, apparently," she said sarcastically.

Brittany cast her eyes around the room and her attention was drawn to something on the nightstand. Ace's super-expensive laptop was lying there. She squealed with excitement and picked it up, "Oh my god, it's the latest IPHONE!" and chuckled. "You must have spent a lot of money on this, hm?"

Ace grinned faintly and lifted his chin arrogantly. "Ah, no big deal for me." then his tall body walked over to the modern refrigerator in the corner of the room and took a can of soda from there.

"I know sneaking around is tiring," said Ace, throwing the can of soda at Alicia. Alicia, who had been lurking behind the door, gasped and acted swiftly to catch the can. "Good girl!"

Brittany looked up. She saw the disgusting gaze of Ace's eyes on her best friend and it bothered her. "Very good. You can consider me a mosquito or something now," Britt said sarcastically. "By the way, where's Luke?"
