CHAPTER 9
Golden High Hall room, 2:30 pm.
It was like Alicia had no other choice but to follow Nicholas' request. After all, Nicholas was right about her curiosity about James' death. He wanted to know if all of this was a coincidence or if it all had something to do with Alicia's past.
"How did it go? You've made your choice, haven't you?"
Alicia woke up from her reverie. She looked around, her hands rubbing her wrists awkwardly, before she finally said, "I don't have any other choice, do I?"
Nicholas laughed softly. He nodded his head, agreeing with Alicia's words. Then, the man with the tall body pointed at Alicia. "But you won't be carelessly involved in the case. I'll be leading the case and you only have to make a move if I ask you to. Outside of that, you're not allowed to investigate separately. If it's an emergency, or it looks like you really need to investigate alone, you should call me."
Nicholas' hand stretched forward.
"What?"
"Your cell phone. You need to keep my number, and so do I," Nicholas said.
But Alicia turned her face the other way. "I don't want to."
"If you don't, I'll assume you're involved in James' death."
Alicia immediately turned around. The ash-haired woman chuckled in annoyance, before finally taking out a cell phone from her pocket and handing it to Nicholas. Nicholas was busy typing numbers on the screen, saving the number, and then calling her. Now, they both had their phone numbers saved.
"Remember, you can't do the investigation alone, it's beyond your responsibility and it's dangerous."
The woman standing in front of Nicholas gave a short snort as she snatched her phone back. "Now you're warning me and looking concerned."
"I'm a detective, it's normal that I care."
"Whatever."
Alicia Perth, the new student who had just transferred to Golden High School was now caught up in a case of violence and accidental murder. Alicia is forced to follow the orders of a handsome, ambitious detective like Nicholas Gray. and this is where it all begins.

Detective Nic sat with his legs crossed and clutched his personal journal as he returned to the hall. While Alicia sat next to him like a pet forced to submit or be punished if it resisted--and ran away.
Jake had managed to get Elena from her room and now they sat in front of Detective Nic and Alicia. Elena, had dim emerald eyes with shoulder-length blonde hair. Her expression was tense as the handsome detective Nic looked at her questioningly.
"Why is she here?" Elena looked at Alicia with a displeased expression.
But Nicholas just shrugged his shoulders and replied, "It's my procedure, he's also one of the witnesses here." Elena rolled her eyes lazily. Then, Nicholas continued. "You must have heard that someone accused you of having an affair with Ace Blake the CEO's son, right?"
"So, someone accused me of having an affair?" asked Elena punctuated by a scornful snicker. "This is ridiculous! I'm a loyal friend and partner, cheating is not in my dictionary."
Nicholas squinted suspiciously and glanced at Jake. "Ace says you're flirting with him. Is that true?"
Elena laughed suddenly, her narrow eyes seeming to disappear from their place. She then shook her head and stopped laughing. The expression on her face turned serious. "All the girls at Golden High will always try to flirt with him, detective. Who would want to turn down an Ace at this school?" Elena said ambiguously. "But what I did yesterday was just because of a silly dare given by a friend. I wasn't really flirting with him, it would have bothered Jake anyway."
The emerald-eyed girl now looked more relaxed. She seemed to occasionally play with the ends of her curly hair. And Alicia, who had been quietly observing, noticed the rapid change in Elena's expression. The tension she had displayed at the beginning had softened. Elena seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere of the investigation in front of her.
"Look, the elites in this school said that you left the hall during the gathering." Nicholas rubbed his chin, then raised one eyebrow. "Can you tell me what exactly you were doing and where you went at that time?"
"I went to my room." Elena rubbed the bottom of her nose, then glanced to the right. "I picked up my journal that was left there."
Unfocused eyes, awkward movements and a voice that slowed to a hesitant tone made Alicia draw an opinion. That's Alicia's division working as quickly as possible over there.
Alicia then approached Nicholas and whispered, "He's lying." Alicia glared at Elena who was now engrossed in looking at her nails. "Try to lure her with another question!"
Nicholas nodded quickly and turned to Elena. "Elena, what kind of person do you think James is?"
Elena looked up. There was a moment of silence before the green-eyed girl finally mumbled under her breath and said, "James is an annoying person, arrogant, he even used to take over my line in the cafeteria," she said curtly. "Yeah, right, Jake?" Elena asked in agreement.
Jake, who was now being looked at seriously by Elena, just nodded quickly. Supporting his girlfriend's testimony. Making Alicia and Nicholas throw suspicious glances at each other.
Elena described James in a bad light. Not a single good thing about James came out of Elena's mouth. Could Elena's dislike (or hatred) be the key to why James was found dead in the main hallway?
Could Elena be the culprit?
"Does James bother you often?" asked Nicholas.
Elena shook her head. "You know, his girlfriend is very over-protective. Who would dare to get close to him?"
Alicia now understood. Elena did judge people from a narrow perspective. Drawing conclusions from only one side. Alicia moved closer to Nic and whispered, "When was the last time she saw James?"
"You don't seem to like James and Brittany, do you," Nicholas concluded. Meanwhile, Elena just shrugged her shoulders indifferently. "Have you ever gotten into trouble with them?"
Elena shook her head. "No, I didn't. I just felt like Brittany always wanted to beat me at everything and James took Jake out of the first team. They're a bad pair, I guess," she said hesitantly.
CHAPTER 10Nicholas took note of all her testimony and now looked up. His eyes meeting Elena's, the investigation continued. "May I know, when was the last time you saw James?"Elena frowned for a moment, she rubbed her forehead lightly and the emerald bead glanced to the right. "When I came back to the room, I saw him standing in front of Ace's room." she bit her lower lip hesitantly. "He seemed nervous and in a hurry. I thought so."Nicholas frowned, then looked at Alicia. Asking her to do something about Elena. And quickly, Alicia nodded;giving a code that Nic didn't really understand. But Alicia took over and spoke soon. She cleared her throat and asked,"Elena, did you use Azature nail polish for your nails?" Elena raised one eyebrow. She felt confused, then looked at Jake who was also looking at her with the same expression. But Alicia pointed at Elena's nails. "Those nails. You used that brand of nail polish I just mentioned, didn't you?"Everyone in the hall suddenly looked at
CHAPTER 11Golden High Cafeteria. The cafeteria was full and noisy as usual. At this time of the day, all the students would come to the cafeteria to receive the breakfast package provided by Golden High School. And the menu today was waffles, espresso and sandwiches. Most of the menu in the cafeteria was ordered by the students' parents, so Golden High School only adjusted the rest.Alicia and Brittany sat in the corner at breakfast time. All the seats are filled as the students don't want to miss out on their special breakfast menu. Normally, the school would provide vegetables and fruits to boost the students' nutrition. So waffles and coffee are today's favorites. The cafeteria tables are arranged as neatly as possible with four chairs each. A chandelier adorns the ceiling, providing light that is not too dazzling. The cafeteria door, made of transparent glass, witnessed the busy flow of students in and out of the cafeteria. They came and went, making the food counter keepers busi
CHAPTER 12Alicia, driven by curiosity, ventured to ask to switch seats with Luke."Oh, please." Luke said happily.Alicia sat next to Ace. She made Ace turn his head with a smile. Alicia's goal in switching seats was to eavesdrop on Elena's conversation behind her. She didn't even realize that the person sitting next to her was Ace. But Ace was already big-headed. He raised his face arrogantly, then whispered softly to Alicia. "Sorry Alicia, I'm no longer interested in you. You... I don't think you're my type."Alicia frowned deeply. What was this idiot talking about. Meanwhile, Ace grinned with satisfaction at the thought that he had succeeded in making Alicia feel humiliated."I heard you lost my hairpin." Elena's voice filled Alicia's ears. She ignored Ace who was still busy with his own thoughts. But now, Alicia wondered, who was Elena chatting with? Was it Amanda? Because the girl had her back to them. "You know how much those hairpins cost, right? You wouldn't even be able to b
CHAPTER 13Cafeteria room, 10:00 am.Everyone in the cafeteria immediately surrounded Elena's body which was now convulsing violently in front of the counter suddenly. Her pale face looked up to the ceiling in pain. Her hands squeezed her chest tightly and occasionally opened her mouth, seemingly to spit something out of her throat, though the only thing that came out of Elena's mouth was wind and a horrible hiss. She was like a person possessed by a ghost, her body moving uncontrollably.Elena's sudden fall caused the two friends beside her to panic. They both went low, trying to hold Elena's hands. They shouted in panic."Help! Someone help us!"And all the people in the cafeteria began to rush over. They were curious about the incident that had just happened. Some of them whispered in fear, while others recorded the incident with their cell phones. The current situation was almost similar to the situation when James' body was found in the hallway. But none of them could really help
CHAPTER 14Alicia sniffed the surface of Elena's paper cup. The sheer volume of coffee in the cup indicated how little Elena had drunk. Perhaps because it tasted a little different, Elena chose not to drink any more. The faint scent of almonds touched Alicia's sense of smell. Even though the coffee that Carl was holding tightly was no longer billowing hot steam."Did you have any almond-based food or drink today?" Alicia asked, without leaving her fingerprints on the cup.Carl shook his head slowly and put the paper cup back on the table. "No, no. We only have waffles and espresso because the other barista took the day off." He shrugged his shoulders indifferently. "You know, right, I'd have a really hard time making a lot of drinks for--" Carl paused, as Alicia again gave him a serious look. "Alright, I'll stop talking right now. I'm sorry," he said sarcastically.Alicia shook her head in disbelief. For the first time in her life, she had found a man who liked to talk more than the w
Chapter 15Golden High Hall room. After it was confirmed that Elena really died, Elena's body was then taken by police officers to the hospital for an autopsy process. This choice was taken because Elena's parents suspected that the cause of her death was considered unnatural and indicated a case of planned murder. Just like what happened to James. They had the same sad fate. At a very young age, they died terribly."We hope the police can solve this case as soon as possible, Mr. Blake," said Sophia, Elena's mother.Meanwhile, her husband, Jhon, embraced Sophia and tried to calm his wife gently. John looked at Mr. Wilson and said, "We're going to the hospital now."Mr. Wilson shook John's hand respectfully. "I'm very sorry for your daughter's death. I promise to assist you with the entire investigation.""Thank you," said John. He and his wife left the scene.Mr. Wilson spoke with Nicholas before the Golden Group CEO left the scene of the crime. He even avoided the students who were l
CHAPTER 16Alicia skulked around like a thief. She followed Amanda's trail in secret, like a secret agent. Every now and then Alicia looked around, worried if anyone else had seen her behaving in such an unusual way.So far, Alicia saw that Amanda was indeed going to the toilet. The girl had covered her clothes with a denim jacket, so she was conspicuous. The direction Amanda was walking was indeed to the public restroom in the dormitory. But from her walking position, Alicia could see that Amanda was busy playing with the cell phone in her hand. Every now and then Amanda looked down, looked at the phone screen, and then refocused on the road in front of her. Was Amanda texting someone?Alicia was still walking behind Amanda with careful steps, when Amanda suddenly stopped.Amanda let out a long breath, then put the cell phone in her jacket pocket. Alicia tried to hide out of sight, but her movements were too slow. Amanda turned around and raised one eyebrow as she looked at Alicia's
