CHAPTER 46

Lorong 002, the scene of the crime.

"The police line has been set up, detective."

Noel had just finished securing the crime scene and putting up a police line in front of Jake's bedroom door. He immediately reported the work of his two men to Detective Nicholas who chose to be in the room with the victim's body. The young detective immediately observed the crime scene as soon as he confirmed Jake's body was no longer alive and called Noel with him.

No injuries were found on the victim's body other than the amount of fresh blood flowing from the victim's temple. The position of the victim's fall was immediately indicated as a form of brain injury due to the impact of a blunt object and the nightstand next to the victim's body was the only object that was considered strong enough as a tool to take the victim's life.

"When is the ambulance coming?" Nicholas asked Noel.

There were only Noel and Nicholas there. The other two policemen were instructed to stand guard in front of the room to ward off any other students trying to get in to see the victim. As for Ace and Alicia, they were both asked to wait in front of the room with the others while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

"They'll be here soon, detective," Noel replied firmly. His eyes then scanned around and turned back to Nicholas' brown bead. "By the way, how did you know that the fire alarm was a sign that someone had died here, detective? Even everyone thought it was a fire."

Nicholas turned his head, somewhat startled. But hastily his face turned ordinary again. "I don't know, but I think Jake has something to do with the previous murder," Nicholas said matter-of-factly. "I thought we should see him, but look, he's just been sleeping on his floor and not answering our questions."

Noel took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Shoving her hands into her pants pockets and looking at the victim's body, Noel muttered, "We haven't even checked this room yet."

"What if you do it now? There might be traces of the perpetrator still left here," Nicholas said. "Don't let the perpetrator get away again!"

Agreeing with the handsome detective's suggestion, Noel quickly moved towards the nightstand and opened the drawers one by one using latex gloves so as not to leave his fingerprints there. "I don't think anything was stolen from the victim's nightstand. The victim's valuables such as her laptop, watch and cell phone are not missing, detective," Noel reported.

"I think we need to do a luminol test in this room as well. Don't give that bastard the slightest chance!"

Noel nodded in understanding and hurried out of Jake's room to get some of his equipment. Leaving Nicholas alone in the room. And the well-proportioned detective rubbed his chin a few times as he looked at Jake's lifeless body. "Looks like I have to do something else. If I keep this up, I'll just follow his trail and find nothing," Nicholas thought. The dusky brown eyes then turned to the white varsity with the rose gold emblem that Jake seemed to have been wearing a lot lately. He quickly put on his latex gloves and reached into the victim's jacket pocket. "He always wears this jacket, doesn't he have the money to buy another one? Gosh, Jake, you're so old-fashioned!" she said as if Jake was still alive.

"What? What is this?!" Nicholas found a cell phone in the victim's jacket pocket and rounded his eyes in disbelief. As he remembered, Noel had just checked the nightstand and said that the victim's cell phone was there. Nicholas immediately got up and checked the nightstand again. "Why does Jake have two cell phones?"

Other students who heard the announcement on the dormitory loudspeaker immediately returned and did not leave the dormitory. For some time, the entire Golden High School thought that there had been a fire so they all flocked out frantically from the large building.

And what happened next was that they gathered in front of Jake's room to break their curiosity. His death, which was considered sudden and horrible, was enough to make the other students scared and worried. The dormitory was no longer considered safe for them.

But in another corner, Alicia watched the closed door with the police line in front of it intently. Two police officers also stood at her side, blocking the people with their well-built bodies. "What was the motive for killing Jake?" Alicia wondered.

And as if hearing her inner voice, Ace went straight to her and pulled her to another place. They were now quite far away from the door of the victim's room and the people.

"What's going on?" asked Ace curiously.

And Alicia just gave him a cold look, as usual. "What else do you think? Someone just died in there," she replied simply.

Ace scowled in annoyance. "And you knew it, Alicia," he said with a deliberately restrained tone of annoyance. "You even ran into his room as if you knew something was going to happen to him. So, please tell me what's really going on here!" Ace insisted.

Alicia was stunned for a moment as their eyes met. She then turned her gaze towards the suddenly opened door and found Noel coming out of the room. "Ace, do you want me to die?" Alicia asked suddenly.

Suddenly, Ace's brow furrowed deeply. Instead of not understanding Alicia's question, Ace asked, "Can't you see my handsome face? Is it possible that the killer's face will look like mine?" Ace then chuckled. "Alicia, if you know something, you should tell me."

Alicia turned her head, looking at the dark brown irises seriously. "Why should I tell you?"

"Because I'll protect you, Alicia," Ace said.

"Yeah, yeah, and you're going to hide me in your bed for fun, is that it?" said Alicia irritably.

The sound of the door opening again broke Alicia's focus so the slender girl immediately drew her gaze to the source of the sound and ignored Ace who started swearing in his place. Detective Nicholas stood there with a wary expression that Alicia could immediately read. From the look with which Nicholas combed through the crowd of students, Alicia was sure that he was looking for someone. And that conviction only grew when Nicholas spotted Alicia and hurriedly approached her.

"Detective." Alicia opened her voice as soon as the detective reached her.

And all Nicholas did next was shake his head weakly. "We're late."

Alicia closed her eyes and sighed roughly. She looked back at the detective after feeling a little better. "Is there any trace of the perpetrator left behind?"

"Nothing, but..." Nicholas looked away from Ace and back at Alicia when the young man only gave him a cold glance. "I found something you've been looking for, Alicia."

Alicia widened her eyes in shock. "What? What do you mean?"

And Nicholas, who was wearing an ash shirt with a black coat, suddenly raised his hand into the air. Clutching a small object, he asked,
