CHAPTER 46
Lorong 002, the scene of the crime.
"The police line has been set up, detective."
Noel had just finished securing the crime scene and putting up a police line in front of Jake's bedroom door. He immediately reported the work of his two men to Detective Nicholas who chose to be in the room with the victim's body. The young detective immediately observed the crime scene as soon as he confirmed Jake's body was no longer alive and called Noel with him.
No injuries were found on the victim's body other than the amount of fresh blood flowing from the victim's temple. The position of the victim's fall was immediately indicated as a form of brain injury due to the impact of a blunt object and the nightstand next to the victim's body was the only object that was considered strong enough as a tool to take the victim's life.
"When is the ambulance coming?" Nicholas asked Noel.
There were only Noel and Nicholas there. The other two policemen were instructed to stand guard in front of the room to ward off any other students trying to get in to see the victim. As for Ace and Alicia, they were both asked to wait in front of the room with the others while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
"They'll be here soon, detective," Noel replied firmly. His eyes then scanned around and turned back to Nicholas' brown bead. "By the way, how did you know that the fire alarm was a sign that someone had died here, detective? Even everyone thought it was a fire."
Nicholas turned his head, somewhat startled. But hastily his face turned ordinary again. "I don't know, but I think Jake has something to do with the previous murder," Nicholas said matter-of-factly. "I thought we should see him, but look, he's just been sleeping on his floor and not answering our questions."
Noel took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Shoving her hands into her pants pockets and looking at the victim's body, Noel muttered, "We haven't even checked this room yet."
"What if you do it now? There might be traces of the perpetrator still left here," Nicholas said. "Don't let the perpetrator get away again!"
Agreeing with the handsome detective's suggestion, Noel quickly moved towards the nightstand and opened the drawers one by one using latex gloves so as not to leave his fingerprints there. "I don't think anything was stolen from the victim's nightstand. The victim's valuables such as her laptop, watch and cell phone are not missing, detective," Noel reported.
"I think we need to do a luminol test in this room as well. Don't give that bastard the slightest chance!"
Noel nodded in understanding and hurried out of Jake's room to get some of his equipment. Leaving Nicholas alone in the room. And the well-proportioned detective rubbed his chin a few times as he looked at Jake's lifeless body. "Looks like I have to do something else. If I keep this up, I'll just follow his trail and find nothing," Nicholas thought. The dusky brown eyes then turned to the white varsity with the rose gold emblem that Jake seemed to have been wearing a lot lately. He quickly put on his latex gloves and reached into the victim's jacket pocket. "He always wears this jacket, doesn't he have the money to buy another one? Gosh, Jake, you're so old-fashioned!" she said as if Jake was still alive.
"What? What is this?!" Nicholas found a cell phone in the victim's jacket pocket and rounded his eyes in disbelief. As he remembered, Noel had just checked the nightstand and said that the victim's cell phone was there. Nicholas immediately got up and checked the nightstand again. "Why does Jake have two cell phones?"

Other students who heard the announcement on the dormitory loudspeaker immediately returned and did not leave the dormitory. For some time, the entire Golden High School thought that there had been a fire so they all flocked out frantically from the large building.
And what happened next was that they gathered in front of Jake's room to break their curiosity. His death, which was considered sudden and horrible, was enough to make the other students scared and worried. The dormitory was no longer considered safe for them.
But in another corner, Alicia watched the closed door with the police line in front of it intently. Two police officers also stood at her side, blocking the people with their well-built bodies. "What was the motive for killing Jake?" Alicia wondered.
And as if hearing her inner voice, Ace went straight to her and pulled her to another place. They were now quite far away from the door of the victim's room and the people.
"What's going on?" asked Ace curiously.
And Alicia just gave him a cold look, as usual. "What else do you think? Someone just died in there," she replied simply.
Ace scowled in annoyance. "And you knew it, Alicia," he said with a deliberately restrained tone of annoyance. "You even ran into his room as if you knew something was going to happen to him. So, please tell me what's really going on here!" Ace insisted.
Alicia was stunned for a moment as their eyes met. She then turned her gaze towards the suddenly opened door and found Noel coming out of the room. "Ace, do you want me to die?" Alicia asked suddenly.
Suddenly, Ace's brow furrowed deeply. Instead of not understanding Alicia's question, Ace asked, "Can't you see my handsome face? Is it possible that the killer's face will look like mine?" Ace then chuckled. "Alicia, if you know something, you should tell me."
Alicia turned her head, looking at the dark brown irises seriously. "Why should I tell you?"
"Because I'll protect you, Alicia," Ace said.
"Yeah, yeah, and you're going to hide me in your bed for fun, is that it?" said Alicia irritably.
The sound of the door opening again broke Alicia's focus so the slender girl immediately drew her gaze to the source of the sound and ignored Ace who started swearing in his place. Detective Nicholas stood there with a wary expression that Alicia could immediately read. From the look with which Nicholas combed through the crowd of students, Alicia was sure that he was looking for someone. And that conviction only grew when Nicholas spotted Alicia and hurriedly approached her.
"Detective." Alicia opened her voice as soon as the detective reached her.
And all Nicholas did next was shake his head weakly. "We're late."
Alicia closed her eyes and sighed roughly. She looked back at the detective after feeling a little better. "Is there any trace of the perpetrator left behind?"
"Nothing, but..." Nicholas looked away from Ace and back at Alicia when the young man only gave him a cold glance. "I found something you've been looking for, Alicia."
Alicia widened her eyes in shock. "What? What do you mean?"
And Nicholas, who was wearing an ash shirt with a black coat, suddenly raised his hand into the air. Clutching a small object, he asked,

"Alicia, isn't this the cell phone you've been missing?"
CHAPTER 47Golden High School CEO's office."Are the results out yet?"Mr. Wilson, a man around fifty years old, was forced to sit with several people in his room. The chaos that occurred in the dormitory made him unable to help solve the problem. Because the case at hand involved the lives of students and the reputation of the dormitory."The forensic doctor said that the victim died about an hour ago, caused by head injuries from a violent impact and bleeding in the brain," Nicholas explained. He could no longer show his confident face in front of the man named Mr. Wilson at that time. He had broken his promise to catch the perpetrator as soon as possible."Who do you think did this, detective?" asked Mr. Wilson, his tone low but urgent. "The reputation of my dorm is at stake now.""The victim's death occurred when we sent a team of investigators to search every corner of the dormitory," said Nicholas. The dusky brown eyes then looked straight at the famous CEO sitting in his oversi
Chapter 48Golden High School's main hall."W-why was I brought to this place?"Julia Wane, the girl who was considered close to the victim (Jake) looked nervous as she sat in front of Nicholas and Noel.Responding to Jake's death, which was considered as one of the continued terrors carried out by the same perpetrator, made Nicholas finally make a significant decision. Also based on the permission of Wilson Blake and Paul Scoots (New York City's police chief), the dormitory's security was tightened by adding additional personnel at the main entrance and two other officers in the dormitory's auxiliary building. The girl with shoulder-length blonde hair gave the detective a worried look. Her lips and body were trembling. The color of her face was full of secrets that she could not reveal. "So, your name is Julia Wane?" Nicholas began.Julia herself was rumored to be in a special relationship with Jake so she was considered one of the people who might know the cause of the victim's deat
CHAPTER 49Cafeteria - 12:00"I can't believe you turned down that offer, Alicia."Alicia and Brittany walked hand in hand as they entered the cafeteria. After the Brooklyn girl decided to leave the music room, Alicia instantly became a hot topic in the dormitory. Everyone started talking about her."I'm sure Amanda has something to do with this," Alicia guessed. As soon as they reached the counter, Carl greeted Alicia and Brittany warmly. The glasses man smiled gently and asked, "Hi, how are you guys?" and looked at the two girls in turn. "I heard the dormitory tightened security after one more death." She shuddered in horror. "Why are there so many murders in this dorm, huh?"Brittany shrugged her shoulders lazily. "Maybe this dorm is cursed. Ah, never mind. Make me a bowl of caramel ice, Carl," she asked, to which the counterman immediately agreed."I heard that the handsome and competent detective is a close friend of yours, Britt. Is that true?" asked Carl as he struggled with so
CHAPTER 50San Antonia Cafe, New York.Alicia's blue irises blinked in disbelief several times when a blue buggy with silver stripes on each side of the doors pulled up right in front of her. She felt even more disbelief when Nicholas stepped out from behind the driver's seat and approached her."Ready?" Nicholas smiled gently as he opened the car door for Alicia.Alicia looked at Nicholas and the car in turn. The detective looked very dapper in his suit and fancy shirt. As for Alicia, she was only wearing a plain black T-shirt and a knee-length denim skirt. "I think I should change before getting into that car," she muttered. But Nicholas replied to Alicia's hesitation with an amused chuckle. "Come on in. You can be yourself while you're with me," he said soothingly.Like a shocking sting, Nicholas' words pulled Alicia out of her worries and into the car.Half the journey passed without anyone speaking. Nicholas looked calm behind the wheel, looking out over the never-ending night st
CHAPTER 51San Antonia Cafe, New York. -10:30 pm."Just get to the point.""Why are you being so rash? We haven't even enjoyed the food yet.""I'm not here to make small talk with you.""So, why did you agree to come here to see me?" Amanda grinned victoriously. "Come on, Ace. What's wrong with being on my side?"The atmosphere in the cafe that night was not too crowded, there were only a few tables occupied by customers who were predominantly lovers. Amanda and Ace deliberately sat in a corner of the cafe to avoid leaking their conversation to the public."I'm not interested in anything you have to offer," Ace said briefly. But the brunette girl who dyed the ends of her hair with red highlights smiled back. She cut into the steak dish that the waitress had served earlier casually. "You know that Alicia is getting involved, right?" Amanda sarcastically asked him."Don't talk about it, I'm not in the mood," Ace replied lazily.Ever since he found out that Alicia was going on a date wit
CHAPTER 52Main Hall, 12:00 am."So, you guys are already dating? Really 'dating' like a couple?"It was Luke. He was sitting next to Ace in the main hall of the dormitory since ten minutes ago. Nicholas had called them both through Noel and the two chose to chat while waiting for the young detective to come meet them."I don't know, I guess we just went for a walk," Ace replied lightly and then went back to the game on his phone.Luke squinted. "That would be a lie. You guys must have... well, look, your faces are glowing today." He raised both eyebrows ignorantly. "Something must have happened, right?""We just made up and started being friends."Luke shrugged his shoulders dismissively. "Being friends is a sign that you and Alicia have made peace with your complicated relationship," he said sagely. "That's good news.""By the way, where's Nicholas?" Ace changed the subject and looked around. "What did he call us here for?""I don't know," Luke replied nonchalantly, as he got busy w
CHAPTER 53Main hallway - 9:00 pm"I had no idea that Nicholas would be that annoying. Really."Brittany pursed her lips and chuckled as she walked with Alicia down the main hallway. The two of them had just spent their evening hours in the library and were about to head back to their rooms for the night."What did you expect? Nicholas is a perfectionist, you know," Alicia said simply. "And me... a rambunctious girl like me would suit him?" She ended her sentence with a bitter smile; it sounded pessimistic.Brittany just rolled her eyes lazily and scowled. "Not Nicholas, not with Ace." She shuddered lazily. "I think you should date Manu Rios or Justin Bieber instead," she said sarcastically. "You seem very picky too, Alicia."Alicia chuckled amusedly, unable to contain herself from Brittany's ridiculous joke.Until suddenly, Amanda and Selena appeared from opposite directions and blocked their way. No one made a sound, until Selena decided to clear her throat;breaking the atmosphere.
CHAPTER 54"They died in horrible ways. Hans was killed with silver metal in his chest and Julia died of poisoning.""What now? Can't you go any faster, Nic?!" said Ace anxiously.Meanwhile, Luke sat in the back seat holding on tightly to his seatbelt as Nicholas drove the car at high speed. Several times the detective ran red lights and overtook vehicles that were bigger than the car. Luke seemed to be frightened by it. "I could die if he does that, Ace," Luke said nervously."Alicia is in danger. We have to find her soon!" said Ace impatiently. Before Nicholas could respond, Luke's cell phone broke the silence."Pick it up, Luke!" ordered Ace, still in a high-pitched voice.Luke sighed rudely and pulled his harness tight, before reaching into his pants pocket to retrieve his cell phone. "Who's calling me at this crucial time, anyway? Just watch out if it's not important." That complaint suddenly vanished when Brittany's name appeared on the screen. She hurriedly picked up the call.
