CHAPTER 55
Golden Hospital, New York. 3 years later.
The sound of the hemodynamic monitor in the hospital's VVIP room seemed to be a humming of hope for the young man. The graph on the monitor screen showing the changes in the waves rising and falling was the only sign that - at least - his father was still alive.
His father being declared alive was enough for Ace Blake.
For the past week, Mr. Wilson Blake (Ace's father) had been hospitalized in a coma due to a sudden heart attack. This is said to have happened because his business had declined drastically.
The old body lay weakly on a white-clothed bed. At the same time, his nose was protected by a breathing apparatus to supply oxygen. As far as the eye could see, Ace could see that the old body was surrounded by several other medical devices - such as a yring pump, a heart rate recorder and even a suction machine - to keep his condition stable.
"How is he now?"
Ace Blake, was finally asked to replace his father as CEO of several large companies in New York City as his father's health declined over the past few months.
And to top it off, Ace was forced to not be able to continue his education to university with his girlfriend because he had to be busy with some of his business affairs. Ace at least had to hold on so that his father's company wouldn't completely collapse.
"He's still unconscious and we haven't seen any significant changes in him," the doctor explained. The bespectacled man then tapped Ace on the shoulder. "You'd better go home and rest. We'll take good care of him here, you don't need to worry."
Ace smiled slightly before finally saying, "I'm fine. I'll be here in a minute."
And the doctor nodded in understanding. "Alright then, I'll leave you," he said. "The nurse will be back to check on him again in the next hour."
"Thank you, doctor."
The lanky doctor finally waltzed away, leaving the predominantly white room and leaving Ace and his father lying there helplessly.
Ace sat on a chair next to the bed. He watched his comatose father sadly. The old man's eyes were tightly closed while his lips looked paler and drier. The wrinkles on Mr. Wilson's facial lines were clearly printed and made him look thinner than ever.
"Dad," Ace called softly. "Can you hear me?"
There was no answer from the man, other than the sound of his father's heart rate machine echoing in the room.
Ace exhaled heavily before finally getting up from the Chitose chair. As if his father could hear him, Ace piped up again, "I'm going home now and I'll fix everything for you." He sighed and turned his face away. Unable to watch his father's suffering in front of his eyes for long. "So promise me, dad."
The tall man walked towards the exit and stopped just before he opened the handle. The man named Ace turned around and looked pityingly at his father once more. "I promise I'll fix everything. But, you must promise me that you'll stay alive and watch all these fates change, Dad." He took a deep breath and continued, "Don't leave me, please." Then his body stepped out leaving the room where his father was.

Town Square, New York.
"The victim was found dead by her office mate, Detective."
Nicholas, the handsome detective who was now twenty-five, immediately frowned in confusion. His eyes continued to stare at the victim in disbelief. Occasionally, the hazel irises also looked at the surrounding CCTV cameras and sighed in frustration.
The victim was found dead in a small alley next to the large theater center in Town Square in a terrible state. On the victim's neck, there was a ligature wound but not a trace of fingerprints. All of the victim's possessions such as her wallet, cell phone and even her purse were found to be missing. Which means, there was no robbery motive when the murder took place.
"The perpetrator killed his victim in a location that was blind to CCTV," said Nicholas. "He carried out the action in a very planned manner apparently." Again, Nicholas shook his head in despair. "What about the witnesses? Have they been questioned?"
Then another detective named Noel nodded his head. "The witness said that the victim was going to the sushi restaurant opposite the theater center at the time of the incident. The victim and the crew at the theater had two scheduled performances, at six and eight o'clock."
"What is the testimony of the forensics who examined the victim's body at the scene?"
Noel looked back at the notebook she had been holding. He did not want to make a mistake in conveying information to his superiors. "From the change in body temperature and the bruises on her skin, the victim is estimated to have died an hour ago. But for the details of the death, we will still examine it during the autopsy process, detective." Nicholas immediately looked at Noel seriously. "I think she was murdered just minutes before her second scheduled performance."
Nicholas finally turned around, his back to the victim's body. "Have you contacted her family?"
Noel again had to check his notebook to answer Nicholas' question. "The victim's name is Natalie Heele, she lives on 1st Avenue and she only lives with her mother. The eyewitness contacted her family as soon as we arrived, I think she's still on her way here." He then cast his eyes in another direction. "The witness was asked to wait there with Jack, detective."
And the detective wearing a gray suit just let out a long sigh. "I'm going to meet the eyewitness, can you check the crime scene one more time." Nicholas looked agitated as he looked in the same direction as Noel. "Perhaps there's a little trace that the perpetrator left for me," he said sarcastically.
"Yes, detective."
After Noel left, Nicholas made his way to an eyewitness who had been secured by the police. The witness was a woman around thirty years old who worked at the same place as the victim. She was sitting with a policeman who had been asked to guard her earlier, Jack.
"Jack, I'm going to talk to her. Can you leave us alone?" asked Nicholas.
"Sure, Nic." and Jack quickly left the two.
The woman's name was Jean. "So, Mrs. Jean?"
Jean, who was born with gray irises, immediately looked up. Staring at Nicholas with a worried look mixed with fear. "It seems that my men have asked you some questions before." Nicholas started and sat down next to Jean. "But I think I need to confirm something. Do you mind if I ask you a few more questions, ma'am?"
Jean shook her head. "But I'm so scared right now." Her body also seemed to be shaking now. "I still can't believe Natalie had to die so horribly like that."
Nicholas tried to smile, calming the only eyewitness to the murder. "Everything will be fine, ma'am. But may I know, when was the last time you spoke to the victim?"
The woman in the fiery red dress exhaled heavily. "We were resting after our first scheduled performance. Then he said he was going to get some sushi at the Japanese restaurant across the theater before we had to go back for our second show." Jean sounded soft now. "Then I tried to call her because I thought the intermission was only ten minutes away. But she didn't answer my calls even though I called her several times." Nicholas then recorded all of Jean's words into his notebook. "I had a bad feeling and I decided to look for her. I even only wore sandals when I left the building."
Nicholas looked down at Jean's feet to make sure. "Then how did you finally find Natalie in there, ma'am?" he asked again. "The victim's position inside the alleyway and covered by many boxes should have made it difficult for you to find her. There aren't even any lights in the alley, are there?"
Could someone from inside the theater be the culprit?
Honestly, the lack of evidence and eyewitnesses only made it harder to investigate this case.
Until suddenly he remembered someone who might be able to help him.
Alicia Perth, someone he knows very well.
But did Nicholas really have to ask her for help now?

CHAPTER 56Golden University, New York. The hurried footsteps of someone who seemed to be in a hurry sounded faint to Alicia's ears. But her hunch was never wrong. Alicia finally decided to pause as soon as she reached the campus gate to remove the earphones that had been clogging her ears. She turned around and found Brittany (her best friend) there.Brittany Scoots, the blonde-haired girl who was wearing a white jumpsuit and black ankle boots that afternoon, looked out of breath when she reached Alicia. Her temples were covered in sweat and her mouth was open, seemingly trying to suck in the oxygen around her."Britt?"Brittany and Alicia had been friends for the past two years and they had both chosen the same college to continue their education. Although both of them were not in the same major concentration. Alicia chose criminology and Brittany returned to her passion for design."Oh my, Alicia!" Brittany's breathing was still labored, making it sound strange now. "I called you e
CHAPTER 57Golden University, New York"So today, we're going to get to know the four basic human traits."Alicia sat pensively in her chair in the corner of the classroom. Her eyes were facing straight ahead, but her mind was wandering all over the place. She had been losing her focus lately."A theory says, humans have four basic characters. They are the leader choleric, the peace-loving plegmatic, the sociable saguinis and the always-planned melancholic."Since talking to Nicholas yesterday, her feelings had become uncomfortable. The girl was forced to refuse detective Nicholas' request just because she felt bad for her boyfriend, Ace. Her relationship with Ace was like something tied up. She always felt like she was cheating on him just by talking to the opposite sex.Alicia knew very well that Ace wouldn't like it if he found out that Alicia was helping Nicholas in another murder case even though her feelings continued to be plagued by curiosity and guilt. All those deaths always
CHAPTER 58Golden Hospital, New York."The victim was pronounced dead due to suffocation and heart failure."Nicholas was now staring at the body, which was almost completely covered by the white cloth in front of him, in distress. The forensic doctor had performed the autopsy and explained all the results to Noel before he arrived."Could she have suffocated to death?"And Noel nodded. "The doctor suspects that the perpetrator may have strangled the victim using something elastic with great force," he added. "The ligature marks on her neck also suggest that she was strangled repeatedly until all her organs stopped functioning and she eventually suffered heart failure."Noel's statement made Nicholas shake his head. "The criminal didn't just want to see the victim die, he wanted more." His bright brown eyes looked at Noel straight on. "He wants to see his victims suffer before they die."Suddenly, Noel shuddered in horror. "Those words sound even more horrifying when you say them, det
CHAPTER 59New York City police station.Nicholas took a deep breath and exhaled heavily. He did not get much information from his four witnesses. Now, there was only one witness left in front of him. Nicholas really expected a lot from that girl. But this time, he would not be interrogating her alone. Alicia had arrived and was now sitting with him in the white dominated room."So, how do you know Natalie?" Nicholas began."I don't really know her," said Christina, the last witness Nicholas had. "I asked her out because I thought she was friendly enough with the other participants.""Was there anything suspicious about her while you were talking?"Then Christina shook her head. "But...," she frowned; appearing to be thinking. "Our conversation was interrupted when I told her that I had a serious illness and had been admitted to Golden Hospital for a long time." Christina looked at Nicholas and then Alicia in turn. "She suddenly raised her tone and left me. She really disliked that ho
CHAPTER 60For two days Alicia couldn't stop thinking about the cases Nicholas was handling. The way the perpetrators killed their victims reminded her of memories from her past. Couldn't what was happening now be related to those bad times?Alicia is currently sitting on a bench in the campus park alone, contemplating everything. The absence of the lecturer in her last class gives her more time to think about it all in peace. But the series of murders in the past, Alicia can no longer avoid. The first victim, Natalie Heele, manages to remind her of a male student named James Portman who was killed on the first day of her move. The second victim, Rich Greek, was treated the same way as Elena Sanders who died from cyanide poisoning. The names of the victims in her past and how they died before Alicia's eyes, made her almost lose her mind now.Was it Amanda again?"No way," she thought. The girl named Amanda who was determined to be the mastermind of all the murders in her past was now
CHAPTER 61New York City police station. Now Nicholas sat in his room with Noel. The two young detectives are like the envelope and the glue that cannot be separated these days. Plus, their age difference of only two years makes them quite balanced in communication. Nicholas is a leader who is able to help everyone, while Noel is an obedient and loyal partner. He is a loyal dog to a generous and warm-hearted owner. They were like a complete pair when it came to work. But the two of them in Nicholas's office that afternoon were not there to chat between men. Rather, it was to investigate the murders that had occurred over the past week."So what did you find out?" Nicholas leaned his back against the chair. While Noel began to take out his journal from his pants pocket. Noel was busy going through the personal notes he had written on the sheets of paper. "I heard you guys have already checked the theater."Noel nodded quickly. "But we didn't find anything suspicious there, Detective. W
CHAPTER 62Town Square Theater Center, New York."I gave him the surveillance data."After pushing Mike Mollison - aka Mike Houston - in the hallway of the theater, by exposing the funds embezzlement that Alicia didn't really know about, that big man finally confessed everything.Mike Mollison, who changed his name to Mike Houston after Natalie's murder a few days ago, finally told her that someone had met him to ask for all the surveillance camera data on the theater building before Alicia and Nicholas arrived."Can you describe his features?" asked Nicholas."I think he was about the same height and build as you, detective," Mike said. "But I couldn't see his face because he was wearing a mask." He then looked at Alicia and made an expectant face. "Don't tell anyone about the money embezzlement, miss. Please."Nicholas and Alicia exchanged glances before Alicia finally asked another question. "If you can't see his face, is there something so unique about him? Maybe he has a tattoo?
CHAPTER 63Alicia's flat, New York."I've been waiting for you here for over an hour, Alicia."The blue-eyed girl immediately lowered her head. Feeling guilty for making her boyfriend wait longer than usual in front of the flat. But quickly, Ace, Alicia's boyfriend, lifted her chin and smiled warmly at her. "I was so worried, you know?" He then gently rubbed the top of Alicia's head. "But now that you're here. I feel better when I see you.""Really?" The blue irises looked remorsefully into Ace's eyes. "I'm sorry for not telling you, Ace." And the tall man immediately nodded in understanding. "I had to do some work and didn't realize that my phone was off," she continued to explain.Actually, Alicia wasn't entirely lying. The blue-eyed girl had done her college work before meeting Nicholas at the theater center. But still, Alicia couldn't avoid the guilt."It's not your fault. So, stop feeling guilty like that," Ace comforted her. "Ah, by the way, I brought you your favorite food."Ac
