“You’re getting married, or you are out of the company,” an old man, no older than seventy-five, threatened his grandson as he took a sip of his tea. His relaxed position opposing his poisonous words greatly irritated his young relative.
Sebastian smacked the table with both his palms hard, causing the dishes and utensils to shake and clatter. “You’re going to just kick me out that easy? But I was the one who did the impossible and merged Eden into our company.” He gripped the fabric by his chest. “I am the CEO of Elysian!”
Unmoved by his roughness, Edmond Adams continued with his drink and calmly replied, “And I’m the chairman of the board of directors. So whatever I say goes.”
Sebastian knew his grandfather’s stubbornness was through the roof, but to insist on controlling his personal life was a different matter. “What is this obsession with my marriage?”
For a moment, he saw a gloomy expression flash on Edmond’s face. “I’m getting older by the minute and seeing you have no life outside this business is my greatest concern as of the moment.” If he didn’t force Sebastian to take at least a few days of vacation or spend some time with him, Edmond was sure he’d have lost him too. He knew the consequence of losing yourself in your work since he saw it in Sebastian’s father.
After losing his own company and then falling into bankruptcy, his father wasn’t able to take on the pressure. Having no one to share his grief with from Sebastian’s mother dying in childbirth, he decided to hang himself in their attic. This left Edmond to be Sebastian’s only relative left at the young age of eleven. He watched his grandson grow to be a cold and emotionless man, despite his best efforts. Maybe a woman in his life would change that.
Surprised at his grandfather’s honest worry, Sebastian quietly said, “That’s not an excuse.” He realized his only family just wanted someone to take care of him, but it was his life. Marriage or even going into a relationship should be by his own choice.
“It is if I want it to be,” Edmond’s determined resolve insisted.
“But you can’t force me to do this!” Sebastian’s frustration was reaching its boiling point. Not even his dear old Grandpa was allowed to dictate his actions.
“Then you are out of the company. You won’t be welcome in the office any longer.” Their heated discussion began to throw off the peace in their manor’s garden. Sebastian realized he wasn’t going to win this argument. “You can’t be serious.”
Edmond could only exhale deeply. “It has been more than five years since SHE left.” Sebastian’s head whipped toward his grandfather’s direction. No one has mentioned her in a long time. And he didn’t know why his heart still clenched even without her name being brought up.
“People move on, grandpa. It’s time you stop broaching that topic,” Sebastian said with gritted teeth. “Have you? Moved on that is.”
“Yes, a long time ago.” Maybe if he kept telling himself he has indeed moved on, it would happen.
“So it won’t be a problem then.” Edmond brought out envelopes with the different logos of high institutions. “I’ve already received quite a few proposals from other companies. Everyone in this country wants to match you up with their daughters. Even some sons, whichever you prefer.” He showed Sebastian the said papers and beckoned him to choose.
The gears in the CEO’s brain began to move. There has to be a way to stop this old man’s foolishness. If he wanted him to get married, he could. But it would be on Sebastian’s terms. Having thought of a quick solution, he pushed the envelopes back. “I didn’t want to say anything because it could cause an uproar. I can’t marry any of these people, Grandpa.”
“And why is that?” Edmond looked back and forth between his grandson and his assistant, Robert Simon.
He could already imagine it. A lovely wife by his side for the public to see. But behind closed doors, a stranger who he didn’t have to bother with. He just needed to make a win-win situation for both of them. And his grandfather will never trouble him about it again, then he could focus on the company. “It’s a fairly new relationship, but I already asked her to be my wife.”
Both Robert and Edmond spoke at the same time.
“Sir?”
“What?”
Sebastian faced his assistant and made a face as if saying, “Just go along with it.” He patted Robert’s shoulder and said, “It’s fine, Robert. Maybe it is time to tell the world.” His brain started racking for any woman’s name to give as an excuse.
“Who is it?” His grandfather asked.
Shit, who should it be? He knew that he can’t invent a random name because Edmond would be able to sniff the bullshit out right away. His Grandpa was a bloodhound when it came to lies. Sebastian’s sweat dripped from his temples before he was able to blurt out a name, “Andrea Scout.”
He saw Robert cringe from his peripheral vision while his grandpa’s face was unreadable. “Andrea Scout, THE actress.”
“Yes.” All he needed was someone to act as his wife, so an actress would be a good fit. Why Andrea Scout of all people? He wasn’t sure, her image just popped into his head at the last minute.
“Miss Andrea Scout, my favorite actress.” Sebastian wanted to punch himself. Of course, how could he forget? Edmond always mentioned her whenever he had the chance. She was, in his grandpa’s eyes, the most beautiful and ideal artist, even with some controversies she was involved with.
Maybe that’s what gave him the idea. He did recall his grandpa saying something, along the lines of, “I wish someone like Andrea Scout was my granddaughter-in-law.” Has the chairman been trying to influence his choice of women right from the start?
“I don’t believe you. I’m going to ask her myself.” Edmond signaled for his butler to hand him his phone. Andrea was under Eden Artists Agency. So when the merge happened, she was also taken in under by the Elysian company, much to the chairman’s delight. So that made it easy to track her through just one phone call.
“Uh, Grandpa, wait.” Sebastian’s panicked eyes met with Robert’s. The assistant quickly brought out his tablet to see Andrea’s information and schedule. “Why should I wait? And why do you look so distressed?”
“Chairman, I’m sorry to interrupt.” Robert stepped in closer to show the device. “Miss Scout is currently filming on one of our sets and after that, she has an interview.” Sebastian internally cheered at the information and his assistant’s speed.
“Oh yes, she has that new stalker movie. Then fine, but I’ll definitely meet with her as soon as possible,” his stern voice let Sebastian know that if he was caught bluffing, there would be a harsher punishment.
Robert’s chuckle filled the car as they quickly drove off to Andrea’s location after that meeting with the chairman. “What are we going to do about Miss Scout?”
Sebastian’s head ached at the problem he created. He closed his eyes and massaged his temples. “Find out everything you can about her, now. I’ll have to talk to her before Grandpa gets to her.” Hopefully, they don’t find anything too complicated about her. He wasn’t sure why, but she seemed to have a lot of haters.
Sebastian remembered his grandpa’s face before they left. He had the most genuine smile he had seen in a long time.
“Sir? You may have made a mistake choosing her.” Robert passed the device with the screen showing Andrea’s accounts and private information. Bright red numbers got his attention. “She’s fifty million in debt. Plus, she spends most of her earnings in a hospital. We’re still looking at why that is.”
It was Sebastian’s turn to smile. “Robert, that is not a mistake. That is leverage I can use to make her agree to this marriage contract.”

Ren paced back and forth in the Elysian building. “What’s taking them so long?” If they in fact discovered Andy’s debt, then both of them should be in that office. The assistant’s heart was racing with anxiety thinking of what they were doing to her friend in that room. “That woman’s been through so much shit,” she mumbled under her breath while rolling her sleeves as if getting ready for a fight. “If they so much as touch her.”
But before she could charge into the CEO’s office, a stunned Andy came out to the lobby. Ren ran up to her and quickly held her hands. “Hey, are you okay? What happened there?” It took only a second for her to notice an expensive-looking ring on Andy’s finger. “Andy, this wasn’t here before.”
“The CEO gave it to me,” Andy finally snapped out of her stupor, to which Ren scoffed. “Why? Is he going to marry you?” The funny thought made her laugh. Knowing her past, Ren was familiar with her friend’s belief that love and marriage were not real. Therefore, they were the last things on Andrea’s list of desires.
A shadow from behind Andy emerged. “Yes, I am,” it answered for her.
The lobby came to a standstill as Ren craned her neck up to the person who had just spoken. “Ren, Mister Adams and I-”
“Sebastian.”
“Yes, sorry. Sebastian and I are getting married,” Andy said faintly like she was ashamed of what she just uttered. Her head bowed in surrender.
Confusion circled Ren while she observed the new couple. Then it all clicked. There had been rumors for a long time now about the chairman wanting his grandson to get married. That and Andy’s expression could only mean one thing. “So they really knew about your debt.”
The three people’s eyes widened in shock at how quickly she was able to make that connection. Sebastian then pulled Andy’s hands from her. His large but slender fingers covered her dainty ones. “I apologize for the sudden news. But you’ll be extremely busy in the next few months.”
Ren raised her eyebrow at his possessiveness. For such a sudden relationship, he sure was being overprotective. She observed how comfortable he looked beside her like they’d truly been together for some time.
Robert spoke up from behind, “They are getting married in two months. Sir Adams wanted to do it right away but Miss Scout wanted to finish shooting her movie first.”
“And it looks like we don’t have to announce anything.” The four of them looked around. A crowd began to form and take pictures of the two holding hands. Never in the public’s minds could they imagine the CEO openly being affectionate to a woman.
“Sorry, but I had to say yes, Ren.” Andy put on her practiced beam on her lips, one that she used when having to act like she was happy.
Meanwhile, in the Adams mansion, Edmond turned his television on. “Elysian CEO Sebastian Adams seen holding hands with actress Andrea Scout. Some people are commenting on the shiny jewelry on her hand. Are we hearing wedding bells soon?” The news anchor giddily said while pictures of the two were plastered on the screen.
Andrea had her usual bright smile while Sebastian held his stoic manner. They looked as if a gleaming ray of sunlight was trying to thaw an iceberg.
Edmond gave out a contented sigh. “That boy beat me to it. I was about to announce it anyway so he didn’t have a chance to run away from it,” the grandfather grumbled to his butler. “Let’s just hope he really has moved on from Lilith.”
A loud slap resounded inside the VIP room of the Le Grand Restaurant, a private establishment where the common folk is barred from entering. The golden ornate pillars and elegant high ceilings designed with fancy chandeliers were in contrast with the graceless commotion within. “You ungrateful bitch,” Laura fumed. The countless accessories on her head and hands clinked as she shook in anger. “First, you hide your relationship with Sebastian Adams from me, and now-” She raised her hand for the second time, aiming to hit her daughter’s already reddened cheek. “Now, we’re not invited to the wedding?” “Mom,” a shrill voice whined beside her. “Relax. Your skin will get more wrinkly.” Laura was led back to her chair and offered a glass of iced water. “I’m sure Andrea here just made a BIG mistake, right, sister?” Andrea’s eyes teared up from the sting on her cheek. She caressed her face, soothing the pain to no avail. Despite all the abuse she endured from her mother, her heart never numbe
Andrea never would have imagined that within two months, she would be getting married to her company’s CEO. And that this will pop her debt into nonexistence like a bubble. But her wishful mind was quickly reminded by Sebastian’s warning, “Let’s just say your fifty million debt is passed on to me. So if you break the contract, you’ll be owing me that money.” Hence, she has no way out of this pretend marriage. “Hey Andy, you getting cold feet? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Ren cupped her friend’s pale face and peered into her doe-like, frightened eyes. Since all the stylists and makeup artists have left the two, she decided on speaking freely. “If you want, you could just run and disappear. I can help you with that, my car’s just a few miles from here.” This made her let out a small giggle. “I’m fine. It’s just overwhelming.” The chairman, due to his excitement, took on the burden of preparing for the wedding. The venue, guests, food, down to what music was to be played during t
“You seriously didn’t rent a whole island, did you?” Andrea asked. For such a pretend marriage, Sebastian seemed to be putting a lot of effort into it. Even she sometimes forgot about their contract with how ridiculously the Adams family has pampered her.But the billionaire countered, “I know how you prefer privacy. With your busy schedule, I’m sure you haven’t had a good vacation in a while.” If it weren’t for the headsets blocking out the rotor noises, she wouldn’t have blushed at her husband’s statement. The actress was still adjusting to the private Maldives island’s natural beauty when suddenly, the sound of the waves got drowned out by the ringing of Sebastian’s phone. “Damn it, I’ve only been gone for hours.” He faced his wife with an almost apologetic look. “I don’t know how long this call might take. You go on first.” Andrea’s heart sank as she watched him disappear into the sea of palm trees. “I should be getting used to seeing his back to me all the time.”“Miss Scout!” Ro
“Am I even allowed to talk to you even if we’re not on camera, or will your husband be offended again?” Daniel asked in a bitter tone while keeping his million-dollar smile for everyone inside the spacious venue to see. Andrea was growing tired of his passive-aggressiveness during their filming and promotions, ever since that embarrassing encounter with the Elysian CEO. “Yes, Daniel, we can talk,” she said as if talking to a child. She, too, maintained her affable expression as she mouthed Hello’s and Thank you’s to the crowd. “You’re just not allowed to violate women.” A sentence that made her co-star scoff, “Whatever.” Andrea almost lost her senses when all cameras flashed at the same time while the roar of the fans’ cheers filled the area. She knew that most of them came for Daniel, but it felt good to have a few support her. “Let’s welcome the cast and crew of False Assumptions!” The host of the press conference excitedly said from his microphone. They were guided through the li
The smile on Andrea’s lips that lingered from last night’s passionate lovemaking quickly turned into a pout after reaching her hand out to her husband’s side of the bed, only to be welcomed by the cold emptiness of the sheets.Eyes still heavy, she called out for him, “Seb?” The bright sunlight that seeped through the curtains, almost blinding her, informed Andrea that it may have been late morning already. “He must have gone to work hours before,” she said in a raspy voice and decided to get back to sleep. But much to her surprise, a deep voice grumbled from behind the door, “Andy, breakfast.” This made her abruptly get up, all her desire to doze off gone. To make sure she wasn’t just imagining her husband's presence, she asks, “Sebastian? Why are you still here?”The door was opened wider to reveal Sebastian, already dressed in his usual formal black suit. The burgundy tie, which Andrea picked out for him last night, was neatly strapped to his collar. A normal morning in the Adams h
Sebastian continuously drummed his fingers on his executive desk, creating an inconsistent beat. He can’t work like this. Buzzing Robert’s office, he talked, “Robert, are you sure the flowers were already ordered?” He knew his assistant was the most reliable person but these concerns about the anniversary made him illogically doubt the man.A reply came out from the intercom, “Yes Sir, I scouted for the best shop that had Miss Andrea’s favorite flowers.” It was an unusual task for the assistant, but one he gladly accepted. If keeping Miss Andrea happy was what made his boss more tolerable at work, then he’d do more of it.“White roses, forget-me-nots, and most especially, purple peonies. They got all of it?” Andrea had humble choices even when it came to her favorites. So it was stuck on Sebastian’s mind when one day, she said, “I know lavender peonies are so rare and expensive, but I’d love to have even just a stem of it on my nightstand.”The CEO smiled at the thought. Getting into
A bead of blood appeared on Andrea’s finger as she picked up the broken ceramics and wasted food. She continued to stare at it, wondering why she didn’t feel the pain, until it trickled down. But then, why did her chest start to tighten? Why were the tears that threatened to spill now racing down her cheeks? Andrea couldn’t help but replay what happened earlier.“It’s better if you don’t wait for him tonight.” Robert’s advice would have been enough for her to put everything she prepared away and try surprising Sebastian again tomorrow. “Oh, okay.”But the assistant just had to break her heart.“He’s now-” Robert sighed, looking for words to soften the blow, “Lilith is back, Miss Andrea.” They both knew no words can lessen the impact it had on her. After almost accidentally cutting herself for the second time, Andrea let out a frustrated groan. “God, Andy! Why are you doing this to yourself?” She sat on the cold floor and leaned her back on the kitchen island, letting the mess stay as
Andrea was conflicted. She was pretty sure Sebastian carried her up their bedroom last night. And she was absolutely positive that he saw the awful and disheveled state she was in. “Maybe I should pretend nothing happened? That could save me a bit of the embarrassment,” Andrea convinced herself. The clatter from the kitchen downstairs hurried her to make a decision. The sounds were without question from Sebastian’s attempt to make breakfast. She had to get in there before he could burn the house down. “Andy, you’re awake,” he greeted her, “Good morning.” Despite what happened last night, she can’t help but smile back at her husband. The scene before her was enough to make Andrea laugh anyway. Utensils that had no business being used to bake bread, tens of dirty bowls stacked on top of each other, and flour dusting the whole place including Sebastian’s face. She giggled at the sight. “Maybe it is better that we pretend. But I will still enjoy these moments as much as I can,” she tho
“This, so far, is what I’ve decided to put in my book. If you’re reading this right now, then that means that I finally chose to let the world know my story. You may or may not have heard of me. I’ve been introduced to many names. Cobbett, Scout, Adams, and Fray. But I don’t want to let any of those affiliations define who I am. What I choose to do after everything that happened to me is what I believe determines me.” “Andy! Darren just texted. He and his wife are almost here. We can't miss your second Oscar nomination together!” Sebastian called out from outside the study. It was funny how in the end, Darren became much closer to Sebastian that it made Andrea jealous rather than the other way around. “Coming!” Andrea answered as she contentedly sealed the paper and placed it on top of a hardbound, azure book. She looked at it for a few seconds, getting lost in every letter. “Momma! Auntie Wen said to come quick!” A small boy with curly hair and brown eyes with golden flecks grapple
They couldn’t fully put everything behind them as Lilith was still nowhere to be found, but Sebastian and Andrea knew that it was time to move on. Maybe it was true what other people said about her. Maybe Lilith had found a reason that made her leave her life. After more than a year of coming to terms with their tragic past, Sebastian once again popped the question. He had flown everyone to the private island in the Maldives that he had rented before.“You bought it?” Andrea almost screamed when she learned that Sebastian didn’t rent the island for their honeymoon. Instead, he made it seem like he just leased it.“Yeah, I didn’t want to say anything because you were so judgemental of rich people. I didn’t want your first impression of me as your husband to be that of someone who buys things excessively,” Sebastian fibbed. He had already talked to everyone about his proposal except of course with Andrea. Eugene immediately agreed while Madeline gave him a stern warning and advice. So t
Weeks turned to months and no sign of the wanted criminal had emerged. Despite all their efforts, she was too slick in evading and hiding from authorities. But finally, the Adams, Frays, and their loved ones had slowly started to build a semblance of a normal life. After her warrant was sent out, Sebastian had also released his statement regarding the matter. He explained to the public how and why this all went down. They decided to keep it vague, not wanting to share every small detail. But enough for the people to understand what happened. And in this duration, the same people who hurled hateful comments at the actress now give her support. As they began to understand that the information they’d been fed was lies, they turned against the source of these. Lilith Quinn. And now, Andrea Fray had the opportunity to tell her story in her own words.Sat on a powder blue couch and facing a whole group of lights and cameras from all angles, the actress recounted the stories that she chose t
“He’s a good man, Harris,” Sebastian told Andrea who was cuddling against his chest. The two sat in her yard, enjoying the light sea breeze that passed by.“I know, that’s why he became my friend, “ she replied. “Look at you, getting all warmed up with Darren.” He didn’t know but Andrea was ecstatic that her partner and her closest male friend would be on good terms.“I’m not,” Sebastian tried to deny. “It’s only because he told me about you going to Clayton by yourself and the other stuff he did for you.”“That’s why I wish he could find his own happiness.” Andrea looked up at the sky and coincidentally, found a shooting star. For a brief moment, she closed her eyes and made the exact wish.“Why didn’t you wish for yourself or for me?” Sebastian questioned her with a sulky expression.“Are you kidding? I’ve already found my happiness.” Andrea gestured at where they were and who they were with.In front of them was Anastasia. The toddler was so engrossed with the film that was playing
“You are not your fear, Andrea. You are not your trauma,” Andrea said her usual chant as she got out of her car and faced the menacing high, concrete walls of Fort Havenshaw.“I can do this, I chose to do this,” she whispered with eyes shut. The dread had finally caught up to her. Andrea’s bravado had waned the nearer she was to that person. When she told the hesitant Darren that she could do it, Andrea thought that she could. But now, she’s convinced that it was just false toughness.Andrea couldn’t feel the tip of her fingertips as her whole body had turned rigid. As opposed to the bright, sunny day that graced them, an unknown source of penetrating cold had entered her body. It didn’t plan to leave anytime soon.A part of her said, “It’s not too late to turn back. You still haven’t gotten inside the prison.”Andrea’s eyes went back and forth, from the fort entrance to her car handle. A drop of sweat had begun to roll down the side of her face. “Shit!” She exclaimed as Andrea reache
“You heard what Monique said. We can only secure Lilith’s conviction if we get a confession. I know it’s a shot in the dark. But if there’s a possibility of Alvis having a recording of Lilith, then it’s worth it,” Andrea firmly said.It made Darren sigh heavily. He scratched his nape, daunted by Andrea’s strategy. He asked, “And you’re not having any second thoughts about this?”She nodded her head sharply. “I’m a hundred percent sure. Sebastian could only hold off Lilith’s scheme on the wedding for so long.”“What does he think about this?”He noticed her flinch when he asked the question. “He doesn’t know,” Darren answered for himself.Andrea grimaced at the fact and said, “I’ll tell him once it’s done. That way, we could save ourselves the trouble.” She only confided with Darren about her plan because he was the most understanding of all her friends.“I’ll go with you,” Darren insisted. These past days of hanging out with just the two of them brought him back to the past. Back when
“The evidence you gave us is very good. But a confession from Quinn would solidify this case so that the jury doesn’t find reasonable doubt to convict her,” the counselors and detective working on Lilith’s case told Andrea’s group.“We can arrest her now on these grounds, but we’re very sure that she would clam up and call the best lawyers their money could buy. And we all know how that will turn out.”They became familiar with the process. Lilith’s lawyers would talk directly with the court that she was not being lawfully held despite the mounting evidence against her. She wouldn’t even spend a night in jail because of who she was. A millionaire heiress so of course, the judge would favor her. Then she’d get out and wreak havoc into their lives as if nothing happened.Their hearts sank after hearing that all their efforts could do was a small dent in Lilith's case.“There’s a possibility that we can win this case,” the lead prosecutor, Monique Perrin, informed them. “But her admittin
When Sebastian heard Andrea yell out, he was ready to attack the person and run amok in her house. But when she turned to see who it was, Andrea was already squeezing the guy with a bear hug. “Oh, it’s you! Gosh, I don’t know what I would have done if it wasn’t!” She blurted out, her chest still heaving at high speed. “I’m sorry, Andy. I was rushing because I thought I was late. They told me to be here hours ago, that’s why I just barged in like that. Sorry,” Darren replied, giving her a light, comforting pat on the back. Sebastian’s posture stiffened as the Simon couple eyed the three of them cautiously. Robert was about to get up from the couch to be beside his boss, in case worse came to worst. But Ren quickly pulled her down. “You disrupt this drama, I will go on a rampage,” she warned him. Still oblivious to the brittle atmosphere that was created by Darren’s sudden arrival, Andrea continued to face her friend while holding both his hands. She began to bombard him with apolog
“So I’m guessing you two are on good terms now, huh?” Ren mused after seeing Andrea and Sebastian share another glance that could only be described as coy. The billionaire was visiting the Fray house and at the moment was spending his after-work time with his daughter.“Put it on top. There. Not the owange one! It has to be bwue!“ Anastasia pointed and ordered Sebastian and Robert where to place the blocks as they assembled a building that replicated her father’s company.Andrea giggled at her daughter’s bossiness. Who else but her father would she get that kind of attitude from? She scoffed at her best friend, “Of course, we should be for Ana’s sake.” It had been days since they got back together again. Though the two chose to keep their relationship hidden for a while, at least until they’ve sorted out the Lilith issue.Ren rolled her eyes and sighed, “Oh please, Andy. Even a blind person would easily know that you two are on more than good terms. If you know what I’m saying.” She w
