With a last wave he walks to his own car and I pull off and head home. Today is definitely going to be long even though we've been together twice within twenty four hours I haven't had my fill of Mekhi. He makes me feel wanted and secure which only makes me even more attracted to him than I already am. I can't believe he kissed me in front of the diner like that though, I guess that means that he is serious about me being his. As I'm thinking about him being mine a warmth spread through me that I've felt the last few times we've been together. When I pull into the driveway at home I see that my parents are back and I try desperately to think of something other than Mekhi before I go into the house.
"Heeeyyyy," I yell out as I walk in the door.
"We're in here," Mom calls from the kitchen and I head in that direction.
"Hey daddy and mom," I say as I walk into the kitchen and take a seat at the table.
I hope Mekhi is in the mood for soul food because that is what we'll be having tonight. It will be interesting to have him here in the house with my family. Tonight's dinner will definitely be a test of sorts; Dad is going to be watching his every move and Mom will be analyzing it all. I should bake a cake for dessert since Mom is going all out for dinner. Yellow cake with chocolate frosting sounds delicious to me and we still have ice cream in the freezer. I smile to myself making quick work of the tasks left to me so that I can bake the cake. When Mom returns to the kitchen she finishes up the dish with the ingredients I prepared for her and prepares her dinner rolls. Thank goodness we have a gourmet kitchen with a double oven otherwise I don't know how long it would've taken Mom to cook everything. After I frost the cake I set up the dining room with Journee's help and excuse myself to cl
"Hey," Mekhi says walking toward me as I stretch out my hand for his to lead him to a seat next to me at the table."You're sitting next to me," I say showing him to his seat as he pulls out my chair and oblige by taking my seat and wait for him take his."Let's say grace," my father says looking around the table and we all grab hands and bow our heads as my father bless the food and thanks the hands that prepared it."Amen," we all say around the table when he finishes his blessing."What would you like to eat," Mekhi asks grabbing my plate. As I glance around the table seeing the look of shock and surprise in almost every pair of eyes with the exception of my mother's."It's okay, you're the guest I'll make your plate," I say blushing with appreciation and embarrassment because I've never been with someone who puts my needs ahead of their own."Okay," he sa
"Baby, are you alright," Mekhi asks once my parents leave grabbing my hand."Yeah, I'm fine. Sorry about the third degree," I say throwing a scowl in the direction of Jackson."It's alright. It's rare that I don't have these conversations with people," he says trying to placate me."Really," I ask looking him in the eyes to try and detect any deception and I see none."Yes, really. There are a lot of people who don't understand my stance on becoming pro. I meant what I said," he says reassuringly."Okay," I say giving in to him and relaxing."Besides it's not like you won't be here with me through it all," he says smugly causing me to blush and I look out the corner of my eye to see Journee and Jackson's jaws drop."Yeah, yeah, yeah. You don't know that," I say blushing having no idea how to respond to him."The only
We sit like that for a little while making small talk. He tells me about his day of practices and workouts preparing for the upcoming game. I can only talk about cleaning and helping to cook the food. He tells me more about what he plans to do with his degree and I listen believing in his vision of building a company and brand that he could be proud of. I tell him about wanting to be that one teacher that made a positive impact on her students. Looking to give my love and compassion to those who want and need it. He listens intently and nods his head in agreement. We talk for a little while longer until I find myself unable to hold back from yawning any longer."Alright baby, I'm getting ready to head out," he says moving to stand."Now you're ready to leave when I yawn but not when you're tired," I say a little pouty."Of course, I'm used to late nights and early mornings but you need your rest," he says sincerely.
"Hello," I answer without bothering to see who it is."Hey baby," Mekhi's sleepy voice says on the other side of the line."Hey, were you sleeping," I say even though he was the one who called me I feel like I woke him up."No, I was getting ready to pass out when I saw your text," he says."You didn't have to call; you could've just text me back," I say to him hearing how tired he sounds."It's alright. I needed a reason to call and hear your voice," he says smoothly his voice even deeper than usual laced with exhaustion."Do you need a reason to call me," I ask boldly."Absolutely otherwise you might think I'm stalking you for real," he says chuckling."You might be right, I might be okay if you stalk me a little bit," I say biting my bottom lip."Well now that you're officially mine it'll defin
BeepBeeeeepBeeeeeeepMy alarm went off and I quickly hit the snooze button and sleep for twenty minutes more. I am still tired when I wake up, but I begin my routine all the same. After brushing my teeth and washing my face I check the weather and pick an outfit to go with the impending spring weather. I style my hair into a half up half down style and get dressed completing my outfit with accessories and light make up. I grab my phone, wallet, and school bag and head down to the kitchen for a light breakfast since there's so much food leftover I'll come home in between classes for lunch. I put my wallet into my bag and drop it onto an empty chair at the table and put on the kettle so that I can have oatmeal and a cup of tea."Good morning Na-na," Mom says sweeping into the kitchen with an air of someone who is running late searching for a mug."Good morning Ma. Running late,"
"Oh yeah, how so," he replies. "In the middle of my lecture I happened to look out my window and see a certain someone surrounded by women," I say sarcastically. "Well they're upset with me now and I couldn't care less but, I can't have you upset with me," he says sincerely. "Because…" I say waiting for him to explain. "You matter to me and they don't. It was brought to their attention that I am seeing someone so they wanted to keep asking about it and I told them it was true," he says. "Who would tell them that," I ask. "It's on the campus' social page. Someone spotted us out together and it spread," he says sounding slightly apologetic. "Someone took our picture," I gasp. "Nah, it's just gossip going around the school," he says calmly. "Is my name in it anywhere," I ask n
When I enter the room the room I can see the surprised looks on many of my classmates' face and envy in the eyes of the guys I turned down. Clearly I'm a topic of discussion since I showed up with Mekhi, so I do my best to ignore the whispers and looks and focus on the work ahead of me. The professor instructs us to continue sketching our self-portraits so I pull out my sketch pencils and head over to get my sketchbook to pick up where I left off. I return to my seat and clip my book to the easel I'm stationed at and secure my photo in place before picking a pencil to start with. I clear my mind and concentrate on the task at hand when my friend Susu taps me on the shoulder."Hey girl, how was your weekend," she asks moving both her stool and easel a little closer to mine."Exhausting but fun," I say. I know she's curious we talk like this every class, but today is different because I showed up with Mekhi."Yeah, you wer
The next morning flies by as all of my time outside of classes is being occupied by Mekhi; he even picked the twins and me up this morning. We have breakfast and lunch together. He also accompanies me to his dorm so I can study after he promises me peace and quiet because he has practice to attend. After studying for a few hours he comes back and we go to a store off campus to purchase school spirit wear for the twins and I to wear to the game tomorrow. I ask Mekhi to join us for dinner and he agrees so I text the twins to let them know that Mekhi is coming over for dinner. I text my parents as well to keep them in the loop of what's going on here at home. We stop by the supermarket to pick up some ingredients for tonight's dinner. I decide to make creamed spinach stuffed salmon with sautéed asparagus, loaded baked potato, and a garden salad. Mekhi holds the basket as we walk through the aisles of the supermarket hand in hand loading it up. Those who recognize
I head inside and take my shoes off at the door replacing them with the slippers I've left there. After taking my things up to my room I go to the kitchen to wash my hands and I call out to the twins. "Hey Na-na," Journee says strolling into the kitchen. "Hey, what do you guys want to do for dinner? I'm thinking pizza and wings," I say to her. "Pizza sounds good. I'm sure Jackson is good with pizza," she says. "I'm good with what," Jackson says walking into the kitchen. "Pizza," Journee and I say at the same time. "Oh yeah with wings," he says to us. "Cool, I'm going to order it now. Stay here for a moment though," I say to them and I pull out my phone to call the pizza place to place our order. When I'm done I sit at the table and debate with myself about if I should tell them about what Mekhi told me. "What's up," Journee says. "So, Mekhi has told me some things and I have to decide if I'm going to like be, be with him or not. I can't really tell you guys too many details s
I take out my phone from my bag and purposefully play some music loud enough to drown out whatever conversation they're having out there. I open my social media account and see that I've gotten a lot of new friend requests since confirming my relationship with Mekhi. While scrolling I decide to look up Mekhi's family and there are barely any images of them online. The information on them is very basic as well however there's a plethora of information on their business and the multitude of companies under them. His family's business is worth billions of dollars and my jaw hits the floor when I see the number. I knew that he was wealthy but seeing it in print just solidifies it. I exit the search engine and text the twins to check on them. They're both home preparing to head back out. I remind them to lock up the house and to text me when they reach their destination.Unsure of what else to do I kick off my shoes and lie back on his bed and close my eyes letting t
Pulling my hand he leads me into his room. It's not too small yet it isn't big either. The walls are simply decorated with posters in frames and other items. There's a small twin sized bed that's nice and made up as well as a desk, wardrobe, and night stand. I stand in the center of the room taking in my surroundings as Mekhi stands next to me holding my hand and watching my expressions.'His room is so plain and simple and much cleaner than I would've thought. Then again with someone of his status he wouldn't be a messy person. I wonder how much time he actually spends here versus his other place.'"This is nice and cozy," I say to him with a smile."Thank you, would you like to look around or just go in the living room," he asks."If you don't mind I would like to look around," I say a little shy."Okay," he says and leads me out of his room.He shows me th
As he's driving us back to campus I continue to go back and forth in my mind of whether I'm capable enough to handle his situation. I remember thinking that he's heaven sent but, I had no idea that he would be wrapped up in a nicely wrapped wealthy package. Rich people have issues much bigger than us regular people. What if he has a fiancée from birth type of arrangement that he has to commit to? I don't want to be left standing alone, I know relationships end so this may not be a forever thing but I don't want to be tossed aside either. There are just so many questions and the main one that keeps coming to mind is 'Why me?' "What's on your mind baby," he asks squeezing my hand. "A lot" I say not knowing where to start or if I should start. "If you want to talk I'm all ears. If you have any questions or anything bothering you about what we discussed you can definitely ask me anything," he says reassuringly.
When we are finished eating, Mekhi graciously declines dessert and I let him settle the bill without fussing. Mekhi holds my hand as we leave the diner and thanks the staff and other patrons again as they congratulate him once more. Outside the diner he wraps his arm around my shoulder and pull me close kissing me on the forehead. I smile and enjoy being in his embrace as we walk to his car. He unlocks his car doors and pulls my door open helping me into the car before getting in the car himself. I buckle my seatbelt as he starts the car and buckles himself in."Are you ready," he asks me holding my hand."As ready as I can possibly be," I say to him with a reassuring smile."Alright, remember…no pressure baby," he says kissing my hand."I know," I say to him tilting my head back and closing my eyes.We drive for what feels like twenty minutes in comfortable silence. I am
The next morning everything including time just flies by. I let the twins know about my plans with Mekhi and Dad's impromptu plans to accompany Mom for the last few days of her trip. They know the routine and we all keep our ringers on in case we need to contact one another throughout the day. It could be that I'm anticipating on finally seeing Mekhi after two days or the huge cup of coffee I drank this morning. I'm thinking it's the latter as I'm constantly checking my phone waiting for a message from him or any sign that he's back. As I'm packing up to leave History, my last class of the day, I hear commotion by the door. I sling my bag over my shoulder and grab my jacket as today is nice and warm I don't need to put it on. As I get closer to the door my heart flutters away sending my blood rushing through my veins. I hear congratulatory praises and squeals I lift my eyes as I walk through the door and see my handsome man in the middle of said crowd with eyes for no one but me.
Inside the car we're chatting happily about the game on our ride home. I'm still amazed that I watched the whole game and that we won. Mekhi played so well tonight, I know he's excited. "How does it feel to see someone you're dating on TV," Jackson says. "I don't know. Surreal I guess, I mean it's cool seeing him play in general," I say not knowing exactly how to answer his question. "I don't think it matters to her whether he's on TV or not," Journee says helping me. "Yeah, kind of like that. It doesn't matter him being on TV, he's cool all the same," I say to Jackson. "I guess with Mom and Dad being who they are it's different for us," he says. "Yeah, that makes sense. I suspect that they've only remained local to raise and take care of us which didn't stop them from venturing out. We just gave them a reason to be home more often," I say to him
First to the long table was Susu and her three siblings, next was Rylie with Ryan and Roman, and Nova with Julian and Susana was last. I introduced Susu to everyone and she introduced her siblings before we changed our seating so that we girls could sit together and the siblings all sit together. When we were all settled the waiter returned and took the drink order of the rest of the group. Because we had reserved so much seating we had a table between us and our siblings which worked perfectly for a little privacy and a place to stack our dishes. We talk about which appetizers and wing flavors to choose so that when the waiter returns we have our order ready. After the waiter hands out the drinks he takes our order of three nacho appetizers, three mozzarella stick appetizers, and one hundred twenty five wings of various flavors. I ask him to wait about twenty minutes before placing the wing order after we receive our appetizers. As soon as he leaves conversat
