True to Lucas's words, the ceramic blade was not detected during the quick but thorough search the men conducted on me. Dressed in black and carrying concealed weapons, they waited for me outside the main gate.

Without any further delay, they ushered me into a car and we sped off through the city streets. My heart pounded in my chest, threatening to burst from the terror that coursed through my veins.

As the cityscape whizzed past, I tried to plan my actions and words. How could I minimize the damage to both Jacob and myself? The ride seemed to stretch on forever, and my mind was filled with horrifying images of what George might have done to Jacob.

Regret filled me as I thought of how I had let Jacob convince me to stay. Why hadn't I been strong enough to let him go when it was the obvious choice to keep him safe from George?
