Chapter 49

Yana's PoV

A gloomy feeling has been badgering me all evening, I'm seriously worried and uneasy. I've been trying to call Laura but her phone has been switched off for the past hour. I dial Alex's number and wait with bated breath for him to answer.

"Hey Aunty Yana, what's up?" He greets in a chirpy tone.

I smile, "Hey bubba, how are you feeling today?" I ask, not wanting to alarm him with my suspicions.

He scoffs, "I'm ready to go home now and I miss you too."

My heart pangs with guilt, "I miss you too baby." I blow him a kiss. "Remember to stay positive, they said you may get to leave next week."

Alex sighs, "Yeah I guess you're right." He adjusts himself in the bed, "What's up with you?"

I take a deep breath, "I'm okay hun, but where's Laura, I can't seem to reach her." Alex averts his gaze instantly, rousing my suspicions even further. "What are you not telling me?"

He pouts, "I'm not supposed to tell you. She made me promise." A conflicting expression becomes etched on his face.
