Chapter 29

I opened the door and crept inside in order not to wake anybody up, climbing the stairs to my room. I was started by a voice saying, "Hope you had a nice time."

I paused and turned back to see Ian seated on the sofa, busy with his laptop. How come I didn't notice his presence?

I got down slowly, as if counting my steps. "Sorry, I got back late; I had to spend some time with my friends''

"Iris, you don't have to apologize. Do whatever makes you happy. I am glad you are getting back on your feet and leaving the past behind." His voice was soft and calm, sending goosebumps to my skin.

I opened my mouth to speak, but the words were hard to come out, so I closed it back, nodding my head and running up the stairs to my room.

I shut the door quietly behind me and leaned on it, facing the entire room. I felt a mixed feeling that I didn't know about when tears rolled down my cheeks.
