Chapter Twenty-Seven

Sasha couldn't shake the lingering tension from her earlier encounter with Hue. After he left, she felt a gnawing sense of unease—guilt, maybe, or something deeper. Ethan had consumed her thoughts lately, and though she had tried to push those feelings aside, they kept creeping back. She needed a distraction, something to anchor her. The thought of her brother, Chris, lying in that sterile hospital bed, alone and unresponsive, pulled her in that direction.

Arriving at the hospital, Sasha made her way to Chris's room. The sterile antiseptic scent hung heavy in the air, mingling with the machines' faint, persistent beeping. She stepped into the room, the sight of Chris's motionless form constantly hitting her with the same force. His face, pale and peaceful, lay against the white pillow, but the tubes and wires connecting him to life were a stark reminder of how fragile that peace was.
